Chased by My Heartless Ex - Chapter 19
Zhou Siyu felt the warm, soft press of lips against her fingers. Her throat bobbed as she released her hand.
Looking down at Xu You’s dazed and wounded expression, she smiled helplessly, then lifted Xu You’s chin with her fingertip, forcing her to meet her gaze.
“Be good. We’ll continue when we get home,” she said slowly, deliberately drawing out her words.
Xu You nodded in agreement before realizing she’d fallen into a trap. Shooting her a coquettish glare, she turned away to shut down the computer and pack her bag.
Zhou Siyu didn’t speak, simply took Xu You’s hand and tucked it into her coat pocket. She led her through the company hallway, took the elevator, and settled into the same car. As they waited for the interior to warm up, she asked, “Would you rather leave with me every day, or have Xiao Fu pick you up from home?”
Xu You paused her hand-rubbing. Neither option seemed ideal. Leaving with Zhou Siyu increased the risk of their relationship being exposed, while having Xiao Fu chauffeur her would only add fuel to Li Rui’s rumors.
Whichever she chose, it would plant hidden landmines in her future work and life.
“Or I could get you a car and let you practice your driving skills,” Zhou Siyu suggested casually, glancing at the silent girl.
Xu You’s eyes lit up briefly before dimming again. “I’m a bit scared to drive during morning traffic.”
“Got it.” Zhou Siyu pulled out her phone, typed a message, and sent it before starting the car.
Xu You sniffled, unable to decipher Zhou Siyu’s thoughts no matter how hard she tried.
Outside the window, neon lights flickered. During the evening rush hour, cars formed long red trails on the road. Zhou Siyu’s luxury vehicle stood out among them, with a noticeable gap behind it, other drivers hesitant to cut in, deterred by her car’s emblem.
As they approached the villa district, the number of vehicles dwindled. Xu You spotted a car tailing them persistently in the rearview mirror and grew alert.
“Sis, there’s a car following us.”
She widened her eyes, scanning carefully. “Looks like there are two.”
On the well-lit road, the trailing cars clung like stubborn stickers. Xu You could even make out their license plates, a Mercedes G-Class with consecutive numbers, and a Mini Cooper weaving aggressively between lanes. Compared to the high-performance SUV and their own vehicle, the Mini struggled to keep up.
Zhou Siyu glanced at the rearview mirror. The G-Class flashed its high beams twice. She pressed down on the accelerator, surging forward and leaving it behind.
Xu You was thrown back into her seat by the sudden acceleration. Turning to look, she saw the trailing car speed up as well. The G-Class’s headlights grew brighter in the mirror, while the poor Mini fell far behind.
It didn’t seem like a vengeful pursuit, more like a game of chase.
Not daring to distract Zhou Siyu, Xu You gritted her teeth and silently endured the adrenaline rush as their speed increased. Her heart pounded in her throat, and she clenched her hands together.
The stone marker engraved with “Jingsheng Imperial Club” loomed ahead. Zhou Siyu flashed her lights from a distance, and the security guard at the gate raised the barrier for her.
Their car smoothly entered the community. As the scenery outside the window grew more distinct, Xu You saw the G-Class being stopped and let out a huge sigh of relief.
“Sis-” Zhou Siyu hadn’t parked in the garage, as if waiting for something. But before Xu You could finish, a black SUV approached from the opposite direction, and she forgot what she was about to say.
She watched as the G-Class came to a stop, saw the right passenger door swing open, and watched Lu Ang step out with his long legs. He strode over to her side and knocked on her window.
Zhou Siyu rolled down the window, her warm breath mingling with the chilly air as it seeped into the car.
“Old Zhou, you’re playing dirty.”
Lu Ang seemed oblivious to Xu You’s resistance, his arm resting on the window frame as he leaned halfway into the car. His sudden intrusion made the passenger seat feel unbearably cramped. Xu You’s mind was still adrift, her body instinctively shrinking back into the seat, trying to distance herself from Lu Ang and minimize her presence.
“Who has time for street races with you? If you really want a competition, schedule it with my assistant,” Zhou Siyu tapped the steering wheel and glanced sideways, catching sight of Xu You’s damp but vacant eyes. His heart clenched sharply.
Lu Ang laughed instead of getting angry. “Old Zhou, you’re really something. From now on, just have your assistant handle everything. Don’t come to me.”
“Get lost.”
The window inched upward, soon leaving no room for Lu Ang’s upper body. Forced to withdraw his arm, he leaned back to avoid getting pinched by the rising glass. Just before the window fully closed, he huffed angrily, “Old Zhou, you-”
But the soundproofing of Zhou Siyu’s car was too effective, cutting off the rest of his words and leaving them to drift aimlessly in the cold wind.
As the sense of oppression eased, Xu You’s heart finally beat freely again, and her held breath was released.
“Feeling unwell?” Zhou Siyu’s pale hand pressed against her smooth forehead. Chilled by the cold wind, her touch was noticeably cooler than her palm.
For a moment, the scene from that day at the karaoke bar flashed in Xu You’s mind, the curve of Lu Ang’s smirk identical to how it looked now. Her vision blurred suddenly, her throat clogged with something unspoken. She could only feel Zhou Siyu’s temperature and shook her head gently.
Lu Ang locked his car, crossing his long legs and leaning against the vehicle with his shoulder.
Once her vision cleared, Xu You couldn’t shake the feeling that those blatant, greedy eyes were fixed on her. But she didn’t dare meet his gaze, afraid she might vomit what was stuck in her throat, right into Zhou Siyu’s car.
In the darkness, Zhou Siyu unbuckled Xu You’s seatbelt. Her hand, still resting on her forehead, slid through her hair to the top of her head and patted it twice.
“Then get out and go back first. Ask Auntie Zhang to make some ginger tea. I’ll go park the car,” she said in a tone meant to soothe a child, unlocking the car door as she spoke.
Xu You kept her head down, her slender fingers nearly tying themselves into knots from anxiety. “Can I go back with you?”
Resisting had drained all her courage for the day. After speaking, she felt the weight on her head lighten as Zhou Siyu withdrew her hand. She swallowed hard, her hand resting on the door handle, steeling herself to face Lu Ang.
“Alright.”
Xu You looked up abruptly, her bright eyes sparkling with surprise. She quickly pulled her hand back, folding it on her lap. “Sis, you’re so kind.”
Ignoring Lu Ang left standing alone in the cold wind, the Porsche swept past, its breeze rustling his clothes. As they drove by, Xu You’s smile caught his eye. His dark gaze fixed on them, a wicked smirk curling his lips.
Thinking she had narrowly escaped trouble, Xu You followed closely in Zhou Siyu’s footsteps as they entered the house through the garage door, which opened directly into the living room. When Zhou Siyu pulled the door open, she looked up and met the eyes of Lu Ang, who was lounging casually on the sofa with his legs crossed.
“You two are so slow.”
His laughter sent a chill down Xu You’s spine. Zhou Siyu ignored him, so she braced herself and followed her to change shoes, then trailed her step by step upstairs to change clothes.
“I’m going to wash my face first,” Zhou Siyu handed her coat to Xu You, pausing after a couple of steps toward the bathroom to add seriously, “Change into thicker pajamas.”
Hearing this, Xu You hadn’t quite processed it yet, but when she saw the long row of sleepwear in the walk-in closet, her face instantly flushed bright red.
She picked out a long-sleeved cotton nightgown, changed into it quickly, and not wanting to face Lu Ang alone, she sat by the bed waiting for Zhou Siyu.
Her phone, which she had been fiddling with in her hands, suddenly buzzed with a message. She leisurely swung her legs as she unlocked it, but as the content of the message loaded, all the blood in her body rushed to one place.
A series of friend requests.
[LA: Still not coming down?]
[LA: Accept it. You know I have plenty of time. If you don’t accept, I can always use a new number to add you.]
[LA: Telling Old Zhou won’t matter. I’ll say you seduced me. Who do you think she’ll believe, you or me?]
