Cat Demon Raising Manual - Chapter 7
Lin Zhixuan was unaware of Hua Wangxuan’s little schemes. However, ever since the day she had seen her face, Mimi seemed to have developed a richer range of expressions.
Today, Lin Zhixuan was preparing to go to work at the clinic. A scheduled patient had called, complaining of unbearable tooth pain, forcing her to cut her vacation short.
Lin Zhixuan didn’t know why she felt the need to solemnly report her schedule to a cat, but as she opened the storage room door and saw Mimi with her back turned to her, rear facing outward, she couldn’t help but talk to her.
“Mimi, I’m going to the clinic for work today. You need to behave at home, no running around or peeing where you shouldn’t. I’ve prepared food and water for you, so make sure to eat. I might not be back at noon, but I’ll try to come home early in the evening.” Lin Zhixuan gave detailed instructions. Hua Wangxuan appeared unresponsive, but her ears subtly perked up in her direction.
Noticing this, Lin Zhixuan chuckled softly but didn’t call her out. She simply took a long look at Hua Wangxuan’s sturdy back before gently closing the door.
Hua Wangxuan’s ears twitched. Once she was sure the sounds had completely faded, she stealthily slipped out of the storage room.
In the hallway, Hua Wangxuan tiptoed gracefully, tail swishing, her ears rotating slightly. Her bright, watery eyes betrayed a mix of caution and alertness.
After confirming the woman had left, her once proudly raised tail drooped unconsciously. She licked her paw, her eyes shifting thoughtfully, gleaming with mischief as if hatching some wicked plan.
She approached the liquor cabinet, leaped nimbly, and landed steadily on top. Crouching halfway, she stretched out a front paw, attempting to open the cabinet door.
After a few tries, she realized that although she had managed to create a small gap, the door wouldn’t budge.
Hua Wangxuan’s gaze fell on the space between the two doors. Her round eyes narrowed slightly, revealing a hint of frustration.
The woman had locked the cabinet with a lock.
Stingy! Hope you drink cold water!
Unwilling to share the good stuff with her, she only provided bland, boring food, tasteless to eat but a pity to waste. Over the past few days, Hua Wangxuan had watched her adopter enjoy many delicious treats from inside. They smelled sweet and fragrant, reminiscent of the green chew stick he had once nibbled on at the market.
Humans called it a cucumber. Hua Wangxuan loved it, crisp and refreshing, it even kept her teeth clean and white.
When she couldn’t find water to drink, she enjoyed munching on cucumbers.
Angrily, Hua Wangxuan slapped the cabinet door a few times, making the lock rattle noisily. After venting her frustration, she jumped down, walked over to her food bowl, and took a few listless bites.
Usually, whenever she made such a racket, the woman would gently stop her right away and play with her using a small ball.
Feeling restless, Hua Wangxuan wandered around the house again and eventually slipped into the woman’s bedroom.
Her sleeping area was much larger than her own bed, a creamy white, like the milk she drank every day.
Hua Wangxuan naturally jumped onto the bed, burrowing her head into the blankets. She sniffed, inhaling a comforting, sleep-inducing scent.
Her paws unconsciously kneaded the soft pillow, claws extending and retracting. Soon, she started “making biscuits,” purring contentedly in waves.
Hua Wangxuan drowsily let out a yawn, paced around for a few minutes, and couldn’t resist curling up on the pillow. She wrapped her tail around her belly, tucked her paws in, and transformed into a plump, oval-shaped ball of fur.
The woman had always kept her out of the bedroom, but now she had finally caught a moment when the woman was away.
There was nowhere she couldn’t go. If she couldn’t manage it at first, it didn’t mean she’d never get the chance. Hua Wangxuan was a clever cat, patiently waiting for opportunities.
She mentally patted herself on the back, wiggled her butt happily, and shed who-knows-how-many strands of fur in the process.
Lazily, she licked her paw pads, meticulously cleaning between her toes. With her damp paws, she wiped her face clean, her cat eyes brimming with boredom.
Before she knew it, she dozed off.
Awakened by the chirping of birds outside the window, Hua Wangxuan leaped onto the table. She pressed her front paws against the window and scratched at it, making the blinds creak and groan.
The birds’ chirping seemed to grow even more cheerful. Hua Wangxuan let out a low, threatening growl, but the birds only became more brazen.
Infuriated by their audacity, she retreated to the table, sat down, and narrowed her pupils into slits, glaring fiercely at the birds hopping about in the tree.
Baring her teeth, she made a chattering sound like a telegraph. Then, her eyes lit up, and she dashed out of the room to the balcony.
She leaped a few times, each jump higher than the last, until she ended up half-hanging from the edge of the window like a gecko. Her hind paws found purchase in the gaps as she stood up, her front paws clinging to the window frame.
She was no delicate little princess, she was the Cat King, ruler of vast territories, with countless devoted followers and vassals. She wouldn’t be confined to the tiny home of just one of her subjects.
An image of Lin Zhixuan’s cool, faint smile flashed through her mind. She shook her head and snorted softly.
How could a mere human woman dare to keep a great Cat King like her?
Her gaze swept across the corners of the room, and she frowned. With a deft paw, she pressed the window’s button switch, then gave it a few more tugs. The window slid open with a whoosh.
Meow~
Goodbye, woman. She was off to seek freedom.
Her world was vast, she couldn’t possibly stay with just one woman. Besides, Hua Wangxuan suspected the woman had ulterior motives, that she was a witch who practiced dark arts on cats.
Thinking of all the jars and bottles in the kitchen, her suspicions grew clearer.
The woman was probably just fattening her up to skin her and take her bones.
Hua Wangxuan comforted and deceived herself with these thoughts, and in the next moment, she leaped from the window.
Hehe, she was going to brag to the other cats about the taste of cat food and canned treats.
Not that they were anything special, two cans a day, and she was already tired of them.
Without a backward glance, Hua Wangxuan scampered away across the outdoor air conditioning units. A cool breeze swept in through the balcony window, and the birds’ chirping seemed to fade away.
At the clinic, Lin Zhixuan’s eyebrow twitched, but her gloved hand remained steady as she deftly pressed a cotton swab soaked in medicine against a tooth.
After the extraction, another client stared at the red marks on Lin Zhixuan’s neck and smirked suggestively. “Dr. Lin, have you found someone?”
“Hmm?” Lin Zhixuan looked puzzled but replied calmly, “No, I’m perfectly fine on my own.”
“Oh~” the client said knowingly, assuming the young doctor just didn’t like discussing such topics.
“Dr. Lin rarely takes time off for herself. Has she been traveling these past few days?”
“Just handling some personal matters.” Thinking of Hua Wangxuan’s silly demeanor, Lin Zhixuan’s eyes softened.
After attending to a few patients, Lin Zhixuan sat back in her chair during a quiet moment, her fingers unconsciously tapping on the table, betraying her distracted state.
She thought it would be a good idea to install a surveillance camera at home to keep an eye on Mimi. No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than she began browsing online, quickly selecting a smart camera with a high-definition lens. She bit her lip thoughtfully.
A moment later, another search query appeared on her phone: “How to care for a cat when allergic to cat hair?”
Yes, Lin Zhixuan had changed her original stance. She wanted to overcome her cat allergy and was preparing to adopt Mimi herself.
Her clear, elegant features were filled with determination as she carefully noted down each piece of advice, though the rhythm of her fingers tapping on the table grew increasingly rapid.
She was starting to miss Mimi and wanted to go home to check on her.
She wondered how Mimi was doing at home and whether she was adjusting well to her absence.
Meanwhile, Hua Wangxuan, whom Lin Zhixuan was thinking of, was not having a pleasant time.
She was being stared down by a fierce, drooling stray dog!
