Cat Demon Raising Manual - Chapter 5
Because Hua Wangxuan was severely injured, even though Lin Zhixuan had managed to save her, she was still worried that the cat might develop a fever or an infection in the middle of the night. So, she barely slept, curling up on a cushion in the corner, keeping watch by its side, her eyes frequently darting toward Hua Wangxuan.
Every hour, Lin Zhixuan would check its temperature. Hua Wangxuan, dazed and groggy, let out a few soft murmurs before drifting back to sleep.
This cycle repeated throughout the night, and Lin Zhixuan stayed up until dawn.
The next day, as the sky brightened, Lin Zhixuan was awakened by her alarm clock.
Her skin, naturally pale and cool-toned, now showed prominent dark circles under her eyes after the sleepless night. The first thing she did upon waking was to lean close to Hua Wangxuan, inserting a mercury thermometer into its mouth to check the reading.
Relieved to see a normal temperature, Lin Zhixuan first washed the bowl and refilled it with fresh food before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
Her glasses rested on the sink, and the glass door of the bathroom was fogged with condensation.
Warm water cascaded from head to toe, gradually washing away the fatigue of the night. Her fingertips, wrinkled from the water, brushed against her slender collarbone, where a noticeable rash of allergic redness had bloomed.
Her gaze shifted to the crooked scratches on her arm, marks left by the cat’s painful struggles during medication application. They were red, chaotic, like a tangled web of crimson threads.
I should buy some allergy medicine, she thought.
Lin Zhixuan’s lashes lowered, glistening droplets of water falling onto her fair, moon-like instep. Her skin, almost translucent, flushed with a faint shrimp-pink hue, and the blue veins stood out, delicate and fragile.
Her expression remained aloof and serene, like snow resting on winter branches.
Suddenly, her sharp ears caught a faint sound. Swiftly, she wrapped herself in a bathrobe, trailing a wisp of steam as she stepped out of the bathroom.
The cat had knocked over its bowl, spilling milky-white liquid all over the floor. The silly creature was flailing about, scratching at the ground and leaving a mess of marks.
Lin Zhixuan couldn’t help but sigh, slipping on disposable gloves before lifting Hua Wangxuan into the air, meeting its pair of innocent, beautiful eyes.
Meow~
Ugly woman, good thing you came back. I almost drowned in milk.
“You little fool.”
Lin Zhixuan’s clear, gentle voice sent a shiver through Hua Wangxuan’s heart. The cat tilted its head, studying the woman before it.
She still wore a mask, but the eyes above it were lovely, like the morning dew at dawn or glass marbles by the roadside, clear as water.
Its tail, now just a stub of bone, clumsily lifted upward, bandaged by Lin Zhixuan into the shape of a chili pepper. Hua Wangxuan stretched out its limbs, its paws reaching to pull off Lin Zhixuan’s mask, but she noticed and held it farther away.
“How can you be so mischievous even when you’re hurt?” Lin Zhixuan sighed softly, bending down to wipe up the spilled milk and replacing the bedding with a dry one.
Having taken the day off, Lin Zhixuan brought all the cat supplies home and curled up in a recliner, unable to resist dozing off.
The rain came and went quickly, and by the next day, the sky had cleared.
Warm sunlight bathed the balcony, and Lin Zhixuan brought Hua Wangxuan out for some fresh air.
Golden rays spilled across the windowsill, and lush spider plants hung from the wall. In her hand, Lin Zhixuan held a medical record, neatly inscribed with the words: “Plan to Find an Adopter for Stray Cat Mimi.”
Lin Zhixuan’s eyes were closed, the sunlight casting trembling shadows beneath her long lashes. Her breathing was shallow, and the faint scent of disinfectant clung to her.
It wasn’t exactly pleasant, but the warmth radiating from beneath Lin Zhixuan’s white coat was undeniably enticing. A mischievous glint flickered in Hua Wangxuan’s eyes.
She stealthily extended her paws, clambering with effort onto the recliner. Finding a soft, comfortable spot at Lin Zhixuan’s waist, she nestled in, pressing her damp nose against the woman’s body. A soothing scent gradually lulled her to sleep.
Some time later, a sneeze echoed, its trailing note trembling. The furry ball in Lin Zhixuan’s arms twitched its ears in response.
Lin Zhixuan woke up, rubbing her nose, the corners of her eyes tinged with redness. Glancing down, she found a sun-warmed furball curled at her waist.
“How did you get up here?” Lin Zhixuan was startled. She knew how severe Hua Wangxuan’s injuries were and hadn’t expected her to climb up beside her.
Was she growing attached?
Gazing at the peacefully sleeping Hua Wangxuan, Lin Zhixuan traced the soft fur behind her ear with a gloved fingertip.
“Mimi, it’s time to change your bandages. You’ll have to wear the Elizabethan collar,” Lin Zhixuan announced, not waiting for a response before rising to prepare the supplies.
Watching Lin Zhixuan’s retreating figure, Hua Wangxuan immediately perked up her ears and narrowed her eyes slyly.
When Lin Zhixuan returned, gently dabbing an alcohol-soaked cotton ball with tweezers, Hua Wangxuan couldn’t help but resist.
“Stay still.” A cool hand pressed against the nape of her neck, the distinct texture of the medical gloves sending a shiver down Hua Wangxuan’s spine.
Hua Wangxuan tried to appease her by nuzzling her head against Lin Zhixuan’s wrist. A faint ripple of emotion stirred in Lin Zhixuan’s pupils behind her glasses.
This human always performed the cruelest acts with the gentlest touch.
It really hurt!
Unmoved, the woman worked steadily, her hands moving back and forth over Hua Wangxuan’s body.
In the end, Hua Wangxuan lay defeated, teary-eyed and sulking like a turtle, a soft yellow Elizabethan collar around her neck.
What a cruel woman, she doesn’t care about this poor kitty at all!
