Captive Moon: Redeemed the Wrong Temptress (GL) - Chapter 20
Deng Tanxin—his name and appearance alone made it clear he was Deng Hao’s uncle. Jiang Yunong had anticipated retaliation from Deng Tanxin, but she hadn’t expected it to come so swiftly. And Deng Tanxin made no attempt to hide his hostility.
Jiang Yunong remained silent, suppressing her reaction for the moment. The entire office fell silent at the mention of his name. Her colleagues instinctively turned to Jiang Yunong.
“Our team leader’s office is in room 504,” Jiang Yunong said, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. “If you have work-related matters to discuss with her, you should go to her office,” she added.
“You’re absolutely right. My oversight. Then, Rain, would you please take me to your team leader’s office?” Deng Tanxin asked, his smile as sharp as a tiger’s grin.
Hearing their seemingly normal exchange, the surrounding people gradually withdrew their gazes. But Jiang Yunong couldn’t let her guard down. This man wielded smiles and cordiality even more skillfully than she did.
“This way, please,” she said, lowering her lashes to conceal her thoughts. She steadied her nerves, pretending there was no tension between them.
Deng Tanxin watched Jiang Yunong’s actions from behind. What a capable woman, he thought. With a single move, she’s made it impossible for me to save Deng Hao.
They soon arrived at Room 504. Yan Jiaxin froze when she saw Deng Tanxin standing behind her. This little employee has ruined me.
“Vice President Deng, what brings you here?” Yan Jiaxin greeted Deng Tanxin with a forced smile.
“Well, seeing how capable your team is—with talents who can complete a project plan and deliver a full presentation in a single day—I thought I’d assign you a few more tasks,” Deng Tanxin said.
“This…” Yan Jiaxin let out a sigh of relief. “What an honor. Still just the filings?”
“Of course. I’ll have my assistant coordinate the handover with you.”
Throughout their conversation, Jiang Yunong stood awkwardly to the side. She didn’t have to wait long. Just five minutes after Deng Tanxin left, Yan Jiaxin called Jiang Yunong over and immediately assigned her the task.
“You caused this mess. Handle these two filings yourself. They’re due next Monday.”
“Not a group project?” Jiang Yunong asked, taking the documents.
“If you can find someone to help you, go ahead,” Yan Jiaxin said with a faint smile. “It’s just a speech. You knew he had connections. What’s the harm in letting him have it?” She was referring to the earlier incident.
Jiang Yunong’s grip tightened on the documents. The discomfort in her body intensified, causing sweat to break out across her skin. A sharp, barely tolerable pain erupted in her abdomen. Yan Jiaxin had probably known all along that Deng Hao had damaged the USB drive.
A flush of anger rose in Jiang Yunong’s eyes. Why should all the work we poured our hearts into be handed over to that one man for his own glory?
“Young lady, remember: sometimes taking a loss is a blessing in disguise,” Yan Jiaxin said, patting Jiang Yunong’s shoulder as she spoke.
“…I understand,” Jiang Yunong said, biting her lip and suppressing the urge to gag.
She returned to her workstation with the added workload, calculating the time with a deathly pale face. Today was already Thursday.
“How did it go?” Xiao Ya asked from beside her.
“He gave me two more tasks,” Jiang Yunong said, her voice trembling slightly.
“Just for you?” A voice rang out from somewhere, and the office atmosphere immediately relaxed back to its earlier casual mood. Who with a high salary would have the time or inclination to help a colleague in such a situation?
“I’ll help you figure something out,” Xiao Ya offered proactively.
“You’re willing to help me?” Jiang Yunong met her gaze.
“Yeah. I don’t have much work these days, so I can help you with whatever I can.”
Xiao Ya took the project proposal. “You look terrible. Should you take the day off and go home?”
“I don’t think I can.”
After Xiao Ya took some of the workload, Jiang Yunong stole a moment to check her phone. She ignored Luo Yunjian’s messages and opened her chat with Bai Lan. Bai Lan felt like her only anchor. Just being near her made everything seem like it would be okay.
Jiang Yunong sent Bai Lan a message. Bai Lan, who usually replied instantly, didn’t respond. Could something have happened?
At lunchtime, Jiang Yunong sent Bai Lan another message, still receiving no reply. Clutching her aching stomach, she made up her mind. I can make it home and back within the hour. It’s worth it.
Before she could leave the office, a woman she didn’t recognize blocked her path.
“Hello?” Jiang Yunong asked, her forehead beaded with sweat from her urgency to get home.
Without a word, the woman forcefully dragged her to a secluded corner outside the company. Jiang Yunong tried to struggle, but her discomfort had drained her strength.
As soon as the woman released her, Jiang Yunong retreated three meters, clutching her bag defensively. “What do you want?” she demanded, her voice sharp with suspicion.
The woman, however, seemed unfazed. “You’re Luo Yunjian’s ex-girlfriend, aren’t you?”
Hearing those words, Jiang Yunong finally realized where she had seen this woman before. The arrogant, rude woman standing before her was Cen Yi, the director of Haku Network and Luo Yunjian’s affair partner.
