Captive Moon: Redeemed the Wrong Temptress (GL) - Chapter 19
After taking three deep breaths, Jiang Yunong barely managed to suppress the sharp pain in her chest. The tips of her fingers, clutching her phone, had gone white.
Bai Lan, noticing her unease, reached out and wrapped an arm around her neck. “Cold?” Bai Lan snuggled closer to Jiang Yunong, pressing herself against her to share her warmth.
Jiang Yunong shook her head, not rejecting the embrace. “I just checked the weather forecast. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.”
Bai Lan shifted slightly, wrapping both arms around Jiang Yunong’s waist. She carefully broached the topic, her heart sinking a little when she heard the tremor in Jiang Yunong’s voice.
“Then we should bring in the laundry tomorrow morning,” Jiang Yunong managed to say. “If the rain gets too heavy and the balcony gets windy and wet, please move Tangyuan and Mango into the bedroom for me,” Jiang Yunong said, making no mention of her earlier strange behavior.
Bai Lan, however, deduced something. Jiang Yunong’s odd behavior was connected to Luo Yunjian. Bai Lan’s breathing grew heavy. “Not going to sleep?”
“Give me ten more minutes, then I’ll turn off the lights,” Jiang Yunong said. She sensed that Bai Lan had noticed something.
“Let’s… turn off the light,” Jiang Yunong said, dimming her phone to its lowest setting and switching off the bedside lamp.
“Good night, Yunong,” Bai Lan managed, suppressing her emotions.
“Good night, Jie-jie.” Then Jiang Yunong began reading the little essay Luo Yunjian had written for her. It was as if Jiang Yunong had dumped Luo Yunjian for no reason, and Luo Yunjian was the pitiful, devoted lover.
“Didn’t Luo Yunjian know what she had done?”
Jiang Yunong even suspected Luo Yunjian had hired someone to write the entire piece for her. How could someone who couldn’t even remain faithful in love be sincere about anything else?
Jiang Yunong forced herself to finish reading the message. Luo Yunjian didn’t mention the affair at all. Jiang Yunong’s last shred of hope died completely.
Jiang Yunong put down her phone, missing the frantic flashing of the screen.
A night of nightmares. The next morning, Jiang Yunong woke up groggy and unsteady. Bai Lan pulled her into a warm embrace.
“Didn’t sleep well?” Bai Lan guessed, patting Jiang Yunong’s back soothingly.
“Tired…” Jiang Yunong murmured, turning her face slightly and reaching out to return Bai Lan’s embrace.
“We need to get ready for work,” Bai Lan said, gently shaking her. “If I could, I’d love to just lie here and rest with you all day.”
Bai Lan brushed stray strands of hair from Jiang Yunong’s forehead with her lips.
“Jie-jie…” Jiang Yunong murmured, unable to fully wake up, she grabbed Bai Lan’s restless lips and bit down.
Their lips met, instantly jolting them both awake. After a sweet, lingering exchange, they quickly succumbed again. Jiang Yunong pressed Bai Lan down, showering her with frantic kisses. She quickly pulled Bai Lan up, urging her to wash up.
After Jiang Yunong rushed out, Bai Lan first took care of Mango and Tangyuan, then collected Jiang Yunong’s clothes that she had forgotten to put away, ironed them, and placed them in the wardrobe.
As noon approached, Bai Lan glanced at the gloomy sky outside the window and decided to visit the nearby supermarket. Halfway through her shopping, raindrops began to fall. But when she emerged from the supermarket, a torrential downpour had begun.
Bai Lan shuddered. Enduring the cold and stinging rain, she hurried home. After putting away the frozen items and rescuing Mango and Tangyuan from the damp balcony, Bai Lan finally had time to deal with her own disheveled state.
She looked utterly pathetic right now. She was still agonizing over which to tackle first when the door suddenly swung open.
Jiang Yunong entered, bringing with her the heavy scent of rain. Jiang Yunong froze at the sight of Bai Lan looking like a drowned rat. She immediately stepped forward, pulled off her coat, and draped it over Bai Lan’s head. “Sister, how did you get yourself into such a mess?”
“Yunong, what are you doing back?” Bai Lan instinctively tried to dodge.
Let’s return to Jiang Yunong’s workday. She didn’t see Deng Hao again. Everyone in the office acted as if yesterday’s meeting had never happened.
But as noon approached, a man in a sharp suit, with the refined air of a gentleman, approached Jiang Yunong’s team’s area. The man happened to glance at her at the same moment.
A colorless, smoky tension erupted between their gazes.
“I’ve reviewed your team’s filing from yesterday. It’s quite impressive,” the man said with a smile, walking toward Jiang Yunong.
Jiang Yunong stared at his features, which bore a striking resemblance to Deng Hao’s.
“I have two similar projects that need filing. Rain, could you call your team leader over?”
“You are…?” the woman at the workstation opposite Jiang Yunong’s spoke up for Jiang Yunong.
“Me? I’m Deng Tanxin. You can call me Vice President Deng.” Deng Tanxin no longer concealed the venom in his eyes.
He focused all his malice into that piercing gaze before glancing down at Jiang Yunong. His condescending look carried blatant provocation and contempt.
