Captive Moon: Redeemed the Wrong Temptress (GL) - Chapter 16
Bai Lan studied Jiang Yunong’s ex-girlfriend for a long moment. From head to toe, she meticulously imprinted every detail of Luo Yunjian’s appearance into her memory.
Bai Lan felt surprisingly little emotion. Objectively speaking, Luo Yunjian possessed an exceptional presence, the kind that would make her student council president material. Luo Yunjian was tall and attractive, with well-proportioned features. Her face showed no hint of malice or cunning.
Appearances can be deceiving. She had hurt Jiang Yunong, that was a fact.
“The water’s overflowing! Be careful, it’s spilling everywhere,” a passing employee warned.
Bai Lan snapped out of her daze, glancing down to see the cup overflowing, hot water splashing onto her hand. The scalding heat burned her skin. She quickly released the cup and poured out the excess water.
Cautiously, she touched her lips to the rim to test the temperature. The water wasn’t actually that hot. Bai Lan stared at her reddened hand for a full two minutes.
Behind her, Jiang Yunong’s voice rang out, accompanied by two unfamiliar female voices. When the noise faded, leaving only an odd flush lingering on her skin, Bai Lan finally left with Jiang Yunong’s cup.
Jiang Yunong wanted to offer a few explanations. But facing classmates who knew every detail of her relationship with Luo Yunjian—except for the final outcome—Jiang Yunong found herself speechless.
The classmate continued chattering, oblivious. “Amanda and Carol are getting married, did you hear? I think they started dating after you two. What are your plans? I haven’t seen either of you post anything since graduation.”
Jiang Yunong pressed her lips together, the light in her eyes flickering and dimming. No wonder she hadn’t posted anything about their relationship on social media after graduation.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Jiang Yunong suddenly couldn’t stand being there any longer. “My supervisor needs me.”
“Xiaoyu,” Luo Yunjian called out, stopping her.
Jiang Yunong was unaware of this and assumed it was just a chance encounter. Since it was a chance encounter, a brief greeting would suffice.
Jiang Yunong didn’t break her stride. Only then did her classmate realize the awkward tension. Luo Yunjian’s expression was peculiar. She nodded briefly at her classmate before turning to chase after Jiang Yunong.
“Can we talk, Xiaoyu?” Luo Yunjian called out, her voice strained. “There’s nothing to discuss,” Jiang Yunong replied.
“But—” Luo Yunjian tried to interject. The two women chased each other to the elevator doors. Jiang Yunong pressed the button and turned to face Luo Yunjian.
The look in Jiang Yunong’s eyes no longer held the familiar affection. Luo Yunjian’s pupils constricted sharply.
“If you need anything, just text me. I’m still busy,” Jiang Yunong said, her voice distant and cold.
“You… you didn’t block me?” Luo Yunjian’s knuckles turned white.
“So, you didn’t even try,” Jiang Yunong replied. The elevator dinged, and she turned away, stepping inside without another glance at Luo Yunjian.
Jiang Yunong took a deep breath outside Chen Zhuyun’s office. She had been assigned as Chen Zhuyun’s assistant during her second week at the company. Chen Zhuyun was already a P6, a senior designer.
Jiang Yunong wondered if today, the very day Chen Zhuyun returned, she would be handed off to someone else.
“Come in,” Chen Zhuyun’s voice called from inside the office after Jiang Yunong knocked.
“You’re the new employee they mistakenly assigned to me?” Chen Zhuyun asked, sitting on the sofa and reading a magazine.
Jiang Yunong nodded. “Yes. Thank you again for your guidance and assistance earlier.”
“You performed well today,” Chen Zhuyun said, glancing up and smiling briefly at Jiang Yunong. “To be honest, I’m usually too busy to mentor junior staff. But your performance today was… intriguing.”
Chen Zhuyun gestured to a stack of books in the corner. “Take those and read them. How much you learn is up to you.”
“Ah, thank you…” Jiang Yunong stammered. “Thank you, Sister Chen.”
Chen Zhuyun didn’t correct her. “Sister Chen, could we exchange contact information?”
A business card fluttered through the air.
“Thank you, Sister Chen.” Jiang Yunong clutched the books as she left the office.
Jiang Yunong returned to her workstation and glanced at the time. It had been barely ten minutes.
Suddenly, the weight in her hands lightened. “I’ll help you,” Bai Lan said, taking most of the items from her.
“Sis, I can manage this myself,” Jiang Yunong protested.
“You call me ‘Sis,’ and I can’t even help you carry things?” Bai Lan struggled but managed to get the items to Jiang Yunong’s workstation.
“I’m just worried about you,” Jiang Yunong said, pressing gently on Bai Lan’s lower back.
Bai Lan’s body went limp at the touch, and she leaned into Jiang Yunong’s arms. Jiang Yunong caught her.
“Hurry and eat. Are you working late today?” Bai Lan didn’t lose heart. She reopened the lunchbox and placed a water cup beside Jiang Yunong’s hand.
Bai Lan kept her palm facing Jiang Yunong the entire time.
“No, everything’s taken care of. I just need to hang in there until 5:30, then I can leave,” Jiang Yunong said. “Sis, don’t worry about dinner for me. I won’t be able to eat anything.”
“Then… I’ll try to make you a late-night snack.”
Jiang Yunong finished her meal and put down her chopsticks. “What if I don’t want it?”
Bai Lan watched her smiling, her mind racing.
Seeing that Bai Lan hadn’t understood, Jiang Yunong felt awkward. “Sis, you should head home first. Just take a taxi. See you tonight.”
“Alright, I’m leaving now,” Bai Lan said, grabbing her lunch box and not lingering. Ignoring Jiang Yunong’s advice, she headed straight for the bus stop.
Just a few steps from Jiang Yunong’s office, Bai Lan overheard a man on his phone mention Jiang Yunong’s name.
“Yeah, Uncle, it’s that woman, Jiang Yunong. She really screwed me over today.
Yan Jiaxin even wants to get me fired.
All I did was take her USB drive.
It was supposed to be my report anyway!
Why should I get fired for that?”
