Captive Moon: Redeemed the Wrong Temptress (GL) - Chapter 15
Jiang Yunong didn’t immediately realize that Chen Zhuyun had just handed her the opportunity on a silver platter. She remained momentarily stunned, looking every bit the clueless newcomer.
Chen Zhuyun had to make herself even clearer. “Rain, if you’re prepared, please come up and give your presentation.”
“No… no way!” Deng Hao was in a state of near-impotent rage. “She couldn’t possibly have a document. If she does, then she’s the one who sabotaged everything!”
Jiang Yunong understood Chen Zhuyun’s intention and had already taken the stage with her prepared materials.
“You! You’re the one who did this! You’re trying to ruin me! Yes, you stole the files, altered the USB drive’s contents, and then framed me!”
Jiang Yunong didn’t even glance at Deng Hao.
“President Wen, your time is precious, and this report is crucial,” Jiang Yunong said, taking a deep breath and forcing a professional smile.
President Wen’s voice was heavy with authority, practically sealing Deng Hao’s fate. “That student named Deng, you may leave now.”
Deng Hao tried to protest, but Yan Jiaxin’s men escorted him out.
Jiang Yunong then pulled out her USB drive and began explaining her group’s proposal. “Based on the surrounding commercial district and geographical location, our group has prepared the following points…”
She imagined she was giving a recruitment speech for the university student council, gradually relaxing and delivering an exceptional performance. Jiang Yunong instantly grasped the intentions behind the questions from the senior executives, followed their train of thought, and either answered herself or directed the question to the relevant colleague in her team.
After her presentation, Jiang Yunong returned to her seat. Xiao Ya, sitting beside her, looked at her with undisguised admiration. Endure for now, and let your enemies lose face completely—they might even be forced out of the company.
Jiang Yunong’s thoughts drifted. She recalled Bai Lan’s advice from that day: Lure Deng Hao into repeating a similar mistake, and make sure to document the evidence. Prepare for the potential losses beforehand.
This should be considered handled, right? Jiang Yunong was already looking forward to the meeting’s end and her reunion with Bai Lan.
By the time the meeting finally concluded, it was indeed two o’clock. Jiang Yunong and Xiao Ya left the office together.
They had barely stepped out when Deng Hao began shouting from nearby, his voice rising in a frenzy.
“You’re the one who deleted the files on the USB drive and planted it! You’re trying to frame me and make me lose face in front of the general manager!”
“So, you admit you took my USB drive?” Jiang Yunong stopped, confronting him. “After all, I created the backup presentation. How else would you have gotten it?”
As Chen Zhuyun left, she glanced at Jiang Yunong. Jiang Yunong looked up, their eyes met, and Chen Zhuyun even smiled.
“How can you be so sure I didn’t steal your USB drive? I checked its contents last night. You had plenty of time this morning to tamper with it.”
Jiang Yunong remained calm. “Where’s your evidence? Everyone knows I made the PowerPoint. They also saw you rummaging through my things and taking the USB drive.”
Jiang Yunong snatched the USB drive back from Deng Hao. “Look, it’s engraved with my name, Rain. And this charm? It’s modeled after my parrot. I’m afraid I had to set up a security measure on the drive after you crushed my last one. If it’s inserted into someone else’s computer, it automatically wipes its contents.”
“And… you violated company policy by taking confidential documents home, didn’t you? Otherwise, how would the contents have been automatically deleted?” Jiang Yunong pressed relentlessly.
“Deng Hao,” Yan Jiaxin interjected after hearing Jiang Yunong’s accusation. “Come to my office immediately.”
“Just you wait!” Deng Hao spat out a threat before slumping his shoulders and following Yan Jiaxin away.
Jiang Yunong didn’t linger. She checked her phone and saw Bai Lan had messaged her half an hour earlier. She hurried downstairs to meet her.
When she arrived, Bai Lan was sitting on a nearby park bench. She was still wearing the outfit Jiang Yunong had given her the day before. The day was overcast and windy. Without a coat, Bai Lan looked frail and vulnerable.
Jiang Yunong sighed. It was her fault for forgetting to tell Bai Lan that she could wear her clothes.
Bai Lan was still glued to her phone.
Suddenly, something was draped over Bai Lan’s shoulders, nearly making her jump out of her skin. She turned to see Jiang Yunong’s smiling eyes.
“Sister, you’re such a clueless ditz! Don’t you know to put on a coat?”
Jiang Yunong carefully draped the jacket over Bai Lan’s shoulders, then gathered the hem of her skirt and sat down beside her.
“I’m not that cold…” Bai Lan’s thoughts were completely consumed by the ache in her chest.
Jiang Yunong leaned closer, tilting her head slightly. Bai Lan stared blankly, gazing up into Jiang Yunong’s eyes.
“I missed you,” Bai Lan murmured, her pupils narrowing slightly.
Jiang Yunong reached out and touched her shoulder. “You’re freezing! If you miss me, take care of yourself and put on another layer. You can pick anything from my closet if you don’t mind.”
“I don’t mind…” Bai Lan lowered her head. The spot where Jiang Yunong’s hand rested felt incredibly warm.
“Let’s go back to the office and eat. I’ll tell you about the meeting.” Jiang Yunong pulled Bai Lan to her feet and took the lunchbox from her hand.
“You didn’t just bring food for me, did you?” Jiang Yunong asked.
“Mm-hmm, I ate at home,” Bai Lan replied, staying close by Jiang Yunong’s side. Their hands were intertwined.
“That’s good. Deng Hao shouldn’t bother me again. I finally put him in his place today. I bet we’ll hear about his dismissal by this afternoon.”
Jiang Yunong chattered as they walked, but Bai Lan seemed not to hear a word. Deeply, indelibly, she etched Jiang Yunong’s retreating figure into her memory.
By the time Jiang Yunong finished speaking, they were already sitting at Jiang Yunong’s workstation.
“So, how did I do? Pretty good, right?” Jiang Yunong asked, playfully seeking praise from Bai Lan.
Bai Lan stared at her face, the tips of her ears flushing even redder. “Yes, you’re so clever. Your method was better than mine.”
“You’re freezing! Your ears are bright red,” Jiang Yunong said, still oblivious to Bai Lan’s reaction. She reached out and pinched Bai Lan’s ear.
Bai Lan had been about to speak, but Jiang Yunong’s touch sent her heart racing. She could only push the lunchbox forward, urging Jiang Yunong to eat quickly.
Halfway through the meal, a colleague called out from nearby, “Rain? Sister Zhuyun wants to see you in her office.”
Jiang Yunong looked up from her workstation. “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
“Remember to bring the documents,” the colleague added before hurrying away.
Jiang Yunong picked up the USB drive. “I need to go over there first. Can you get me a glass of water, Sis? After that, you can either go home or wait at my desk,” Jiang Yunong told Bai Lan.
“I’ll wait for you here.”
Jiang Yunong hurried off. In her haste, the USB drive slipped from her hand and fell to the floor. She was just about to crouch down when a hand reached out and picked it up for her.
“Thank you—” Jiang Yunong began, but her words caught in her throat as she met Luo Yunjian’s eyes.
“Hey, Yunong! Why did you bring your girlfriend to work?” A classmate of Jiang Yunong’s, who also worked at the company, happened to be nearby. Spotting the two of them, she waved excitedly.
At the water dispenser nearby, Bai Lan, who was filling a cup, slowly lifted her head at the sound of the comment.
