Captive Moon: Redeemed the Wrong Temptress (GL) - Chapter 14
“This is our project team area, responsible for…” The supervisor leading the Haku Network tour explained.
Jiang Yunong hadn’t seen her before and didn’t dare look directly at her, afraid she might turn around and meet Luo Yunjian’s eyes. The tour group passed through the corridor between the workstations.
Jiang Yunong could almost feel the unsettling aura prickling her back and brushing past her shoulder. A wave of sweat and nervous dread washed over half her body.
Clutching her pen, Jiang Yunong buried her head deep in her hands.
A gust of wind swept past, carrying away all her discomfort. Luo Yunjian walked by with her group, brushing past Jiang Yunong.
Yet, as if unwilling to give up, Jiang Yunong jerked her head up after the crowd had moved on. She stared blankly at the figure that should have been familiar but now seemed to exist on a parallel plane.
Until she saw another person in the group. Judging by their attire, this person must be the team leader—probably a manager or director type.
But something about their back… It looked just like Luo Yunjian’s current partner in the photos.
Jiang Yunong’s head dropped instantly, as if all support had vanished.
A lowly P1 employee, bossed around, earning nothing, saving nothing. Without love, the answer was obvious.
After a long silence, Jiang Yunong covered her face, hiding a bitter smile. Luo Yunjian probably didn’t know, she thought.
Today’s work was focused on the midday report. In the morning, Jiang Yunong had everything prepared. Not particularly busy, she opened her phone and couldn’t resist checking her chat with Bai Lan.
Just as Jiang Yunong had left for work, Bai Lan had sent a video of Tangyuan. After that, Bai Lan had been surprisingly quiet.
“What are you up to?” Jiang Yunong typed and sent the message.
Bai Lan replied instantly. She sent a photo showing she was in their residential complex.
[ The weather’s nice today, so I came out for a walk. What about you, Yunong? When’s your report? ]
[ It’s almost noon. ]
[ Remember to eat lunch. ] Bai Lan’s reminder pulled Jiang Yunong back.
Jiang Yunong finally understood why she’d instinctively checked her phone for Bai Lan’s messages. She probably did miss Bai Lan.
[ The cafeteria might be closed by the time our meeting ends. It’ll probably be two o’clock, and we’ll have to start the afternoon shift. ]
[ But I packed a few extra slices of bread, ] Jiang Yunong lied, not wanting Bai Lan to worry.
[ Bread won’t cut it. I’ll bring you lunch at noon. I’m free anyway. ] Bai Lan sent the message quickly, leaving Jiang Yunong no room to refuse. [ You’re not allowed to say no. ]
Jiang Yunong chuckled. If she refused, Bai Lan would cling to her neck.
[ I’ll send you the address. Just take a taxi. ] After sending the address, Jiang Yunong transferred half of her remaining funds to Bai Lan.
Bai Lan sent a voice message. Without thinking, Jiang Yunong pressed play.
She heard an astonishing “Thank you, Master.” The voice was dripping with sensual sweetness.
Jiang Yunong frantically tried to hide her phone under her body, fumbling to turn off the sound and then shut it down completely. Only when she finally dropped the phone on the floor did her wildly racing heart momentarily stop.
Thankfully, the volume was set low. Next time Bai Lan sent a voice message, she would definitely convert it to text first.
At noon, Jiang Yunong and her team, along with two other groups, gathered in the conference room. Naturally, the question of who would deliver the presentation was even more critical.
Yan Jiaxin had originally designated Jiang Yunong for the task. But Deng Hao, backed by powerful connections, needed only a word to have the presentation reassigned to himself.
Deng Hao strode to the front of the group, radiating arrogance.
Xiao Ya, standing beside Jiang Yunong, frowned at her colleague’s serene expression. “Isn’t that your USB drive he’s using?” Xiao Ya asked.
“Heh, yeah,” Jiang Yunong replied, her expression brightening slightly as she anticipated what was about to unfold.
“How can he be so shameless? He’s the one who ruined the files, and now he’s trying to take credit!”
Jiang Yunong patted Xiao Ya’s back. “He has connections. Let him have it.”
Their hushed conversation, though barely audible, carried clearly in the otherwise silent conference room.
“Ladies, if you have a problem with me, why not just bring it up directly?”
“Weren’t you so proud of bragging about your influential uncle?” Jiang Yunong raised an eyebrow. “Everyone in the office knows about your little schemes. We don’t have your connections—our families are ordinary. We have no complaints.”
Deng Hao was about to lash out when Yan Jiaxin, the group leader, entered the office with senior management.
Jiang Yunong spotted a familiar face among the executives and chief designers: Chen Zhuyun, the mentor who had been assigned to guide her.
The CEO, calling in from across the ocean, appeared on the video conference screen. “This project is crucial,” he declared.
He droned on for a full half-hour, stretching the meeting to nearly two o’clock. Finally, after he finished, the team leaders took turns giving their reports.
Then it was Deng Hao’s turn.
Deng Hao strode confidently to the stage, head held high, and introduced himself. The CEO nodded slightly when he heard the surname “Deng.”
Deng Hao brazenly plugged Jiang Yunong’s USB drive into the computer, a cocky grin plastered across his face.
But three seconds later, his face turned ashen. The entire USB drive was completely empty—as blank as his now deathly pale face.
“What’s going on? The folder’s empty?” The employees began whispering among themselves.
Xiao Ya glanced furtively at Jiang Yunong, utterly stunned.
But Deng Hao’s gaze had already landed on her. “What’s going on here?” Yan Jiaxin’s sharp question cut through the air before Deng Hao could even speak.
“I… I…” With so many senior executives watching, Deng Hao panicked. He had checked the USB drive thoroughly last night.
“I’ll try recovering the files. Maybe there’s just a glitch.”
After several attempts, the large screen still displayed the stark message: “This USB drive is empty.”
“That’s strange…” He re-inserted the drive multiple times. Finally, a single file appeared.
Thinking he was about to be saved, Deng Hao quickly opened it. He pressed play on a video.
The video was short, but the angle was sharp. It clearly captured his face, the company workstation logo, and his act of stealing.
When Deng Hao saw this, his body suddenly convulsed, his expression twisting in agony. He tried desperately to close the video, but he couldn’t move the mouse.
The CEO’s face had darkened. In the conference room, people were casting furtive glances at Jiang Yunong.
A cold sweat broke out on Jiang Yunong’s back. This was her first time doing something like this.
Just as the tension reached its peak, Chen Zhuyun suddenly spoke up.
“Didn’t the notice I received yesterday say that Rain was supposed to give today’s presentation?”
She turned her gaze and the conversation toward Jiang Yunong.
