Boss A Said the Child is Hers - Chapter 2
Wen Lai’s slender, pale hand rested on the doorknob, a lit cigarette pinched between her fingers. Smoke swirled around her, brushing past her strikingly beautiful face, but it couldn’t conceal the coldness in her eyes as she gazed down at the drunken girl sprawled at her feet.
Their eyes met, and Wen Lai recognized her: the young woman who had stared intently at her in the elevator.
Seeing her in such a pitiful state, Wen Lai’s brow furrowed slightly.
But Wen Lai wasn’t one for sympathy. She had no intention of meddling, especially during her Susceptibility Period, when she loathed being disturbed. Without a second thought, she called room service to have the girl removed.
When Xu Ci saw that breathtaking face, she realized she was truly drunk. How else could she still be thinking about beauty in this state?
But the scent was so close, as if it were right in front of her, enveloping her completely. The aroma brought a sliver of relief to her panic.
Xu Ci lay there, unwilling and unable to move. Her gaze drifted back to the shoes before her. As the shoes turned to leave, she impulsively grabbed the woman’s leg.
“Don’t go,” Xu Ci sobbed, clinging to Wen Lai’s leg like a lost puppy. “Please help me.”
Wen Lai paused, her expression turning icy. She wasn’t used to physical contact, especially during her Susceptibility Period. She tried to shake Xu Ci off, but the girl only clung tighter.
“Please help me,” Xu Ci whimpered, trembling all over. “I’m scared.”
Annoyed, Wen Lai glanced down at the sobbing girl clutching her leg. After a few seconds, she stubbed out her cigarette and reached out to push the girl’s swaying head aside. Her hand landed on Xu Ci’s forehead, which felt burning hot.
Frowning, Wen Lai pinched Xu Ci’s chin, forcing her to look up. The girl’s face was flushed crimson, her neck feverish, and her breathing ragged.
It was obvious: she’d been drugged.
Wen Lai scoffed inwardly. These young girls really didn’t know how to protect themselves. But what did it have to do with her?
A hotel staff member arrived, spotting Wen Lai being clung to by the drunken girl. “Director Wen, are you all right?” he asked anxiously.
“I’m fine,” Wen Lai replied coldly. “She’s the one who’s not.” With that, she yanked the staggering Xu Ci to her feet and shoved her toward the staff member. “Get her a room and have someone watch over her.”
This was the greatest kindness Wen Lai could offer.
The waiter, unsure of the woman’s relationship to Wen Lai, cautiously replied, “Yes, Director Wen.”
Just then, a commotion erupted in the hallway. A man was shouting at the waiter, demanding his girl.
From snippets of conversation, Wen Lai realized the man wanted the girl currently clinging to her, crying and begging for help. Unwilling to get involved, she simply told the waiter to take the girl away.
But the waiter hesitated. “Director Wen, that’s General Manager Zhang from Hongtao Group. He’s the one who wants her.”
Wen Lai glanced at her coldly. “Is that so?”
“I happened to be delivering wine to the private room when they were forcing her to drink. General Manager Zhang and some other men were pressuring her. The poor girl was crying so pitifully,” the waiter said, her voice wavering. “Director Wen, if I take her out like this, General Manager Zhang will see us. I can’t afford to offend him.”
Wen Lai paused, her hand hovering over the door. She glanced at Xu Ci, who was frowning, her face flushed crimson, her expression clearly pained. Strands of damp hair clung to her forehead, and her tear-streaked face resembled that of a bedraggled kitten.
The noise in the corridor grew louder, and Wen Lai, already irritable, became even more annoyed.
She wasn’t a particularly compassionate person, but she felt nothing but contempt for the scumbag who would drug a young woman. Against her usual nature, she reached out and pulled Xu Ci back into her arms.
“General Manager Zhang? Tell security to throw that trash out,” Wen Lai snapped, reaching to close the door.
Xu Ci’s body was burning hot. Wen Lai steadied her by the waist, feeling the heat even through their clothes.
Perhaps drawn by the temperature difference, Xu Ci leaned closer, pressing her forehead against Wen Lai’s cheek and nuzzling against it. Her lips moved as if she were trying to say something.
Wen Lai frowned at the nuzzling, pushed the fuzzy head away, and said coldly, “Stay still!”
Xu Ci ignored her, clutching Wen Lai’s clothes and pressing close again, mumbling, “It’s so cool and comfortable. Don’t push me away, okay?”
This time Wen Lai heard her clearly. She snorted, scooped Xu Ci up in a horizontal carry, and unceremoniously dumped her onto the bed.
“You might be comfortable, but I’m not!” she snapped, her voice sharp with irritation.
Wen Lai felt truly uncomfortable. It was because she was unusually sensitive during her Susceptibility Period, unable to tolerate even the slightest physical contact. The other woman’s high body temperature only intensified her pheromone secretion.
Wen Lai regulated her breathing, trying to figure out how to handle this little nuisance.
Xu Ci was curled up on the bed, her eyes red-rimmed as she whimpered softly, her body trembling and her back already soaked with sweat.
Wen Lai guessed it was the drug’s effect. She sat down on the nearby sofa, pulled out her phone, and made a call, briefly explaining the situation.
Xue Fei’s voice crackled through the speaker: “Playing it that wild? That’s a crime, Bureau Chief Wen! Don’t you know that as an official?”
“Does she need to go to the hospital?” Wen Lai had no patience for jokes. She didn’t know the drug’s dosage, but she knew it was a matter of life and death.
“If you take her to the hospital, the police will get involved anyway. Otherwise, they’ll think you drugged her,” Xue Fei frowned. “First, give her some water. Then take her to the hospital and call the police to explain the situation. Your position can’t be dragged into this mess.”
Wen Lai glanced at the little nuisance on the bed, frowning. “I understand,” she said before hanging up. She stood up and twisted open a bottle of mineral water.
Wen Lai scooped the girl up, pinched her chin, and tried to get her to drink, but the little nuisance resisted fiercely. She choked, flailed her arms wildly, knocked over the water, and splashed Wen Lai’s clothes.
Wen Lai’s face darkened. She wanted to snap, but when she saw the girl’s tearful eyes, she suppressed her anger. She knew there was no point in getting mad at someone who was clearly out of her mind.
Besides, the girl looked terrible. Her hair was soaked, her breathing ragged, and her hands clutched desperately at Wen Lai’s clothes as she pleaded, “Please… help me. I feel so awful.”
Wen Lai stared at her expressionlessly, offering no response.
She was considering Xue Fei’s plan. During her Susceptibility Period, the girl usually avoided going out, but leaving her in such a delirious state with someone else didn’t seem safe either.
Wen Lai was starting to regret showing the little nuisance any pity.
Xue Fei called again. Option two, letting Wen Lai sleep with Little Nuisance, was simple and convenient.
Wen Lai couldn’t have been more disgusted. She hung up immediately.
Xu Ci felt like she was drowning in water and burning in fire. Her hand groped wildly, like grasping for a lifeline. Her fingertips brushed against Wen Lai’s palm, cool against her skin. That brief touch made her breathing quicken. She seized Wen Lai’s hand and pressed it against her burning cheek.
A second later, Wen Lai pulled her hand away. But the next moment, Xu Ci grabbed it back tightly.
Xu Ci held the cool hand to her lips, inhaling its scent, refusing to let go.
Wen Lai’s breath hitched for two seconds before speeding up.
Clearly, her Susceptibility Period made her unable to withstand such contact. She yanked her hand away, only to be suddenly pulled into a hug by Xu Ci, who pressed her head against Wen Lai’s chest like a cat with catnip, utterly unable to resist the scent. Xu Ci nuzzled against her, whimpering softly.
Wen Lai froze, as if her life force had been seized. She couldn’t breathe; it was too hot. Her throat tightened involuntarily.
The dim yellow light cast shadows over them, and primal desires stirred silently.
Wen Lai knew she wouldn’t be able to resist temptation during her Susceptibility Period, but she wasn’t about to take advantage of a poor girl who was drugged and delirious.
With a scowl, Wen Lai pushed Xu Ci away. When Xu Ci clung to her again, Wen Lai grabbed her hair, yanked her head back, and snarled, “If you come near me again, I’ll throw you out!”
The threat meant nothing to Xu Ci. Her eyes were teary, the rims red like a little rabbit’s. Her heavy breaths brushed against Wen Lai’s face, making her uncomfortable. Wen Lai shoved her away. “Stop crying!”
“I feel awful,” Xu Ci whimpered, her voice trembling. “Please help me.” She struggled for breath, reaching to tear at her clothes. In seconds, her pale chest was exposed to Wen Lai’s gaze.
Almost instantly, goosebumps rose on Wen Lai’s arms, and her breathing grew ragged. A sharp pang in her lower abdomen signaled the intense arousal of her Susceptibility Period, triggering her most primal instincts.
“Are you…?” Her throat felt dry, her voice low and husky. “Are you sure you want me to save you?”
Xu Ci nodded tearfully, looking utterly pitiful.
Wen Lai’s gaze lingered on those tempting lips. In a moment, she leaned down and kissed them.
Xu Ci’s head swam. The unfamiliar sensation, tentative at first, then pressing closer, entwining, didn’t feel unpleasant at all. Instead, she found herself enjoying it. The sweet fragrance surrounding her created an indescribable bliss, and she surrendered to it completely.
The room filled with the scent of peonies. The bedroom light flickered, blurring Xu Ci’s vision.
So this is what it feels like to be drunk, Xu Ci thought just before losing consciousness.
Meanwhile, Wen Lai mused, This Little Nuisance’s body is so soft.
******
Morning light streamed through the curtains, dappling the messy bed with shifting patterns of light and shadow. Wen Lai’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her body clock was usually precise, waking her around five every morning. But when she checked her phone, her brow furrowed slightly. It was already nine.
The discomfort from her Susceptibility Period hadn’t completely faded. After all, these periods typically lasted three to five days. Still, last night had been the most comforting experience she’d had since arriving in this world.
Wen Lai couldn’t help but glance at the person still sleeping soundly in her arms. A shadow of worry crossed her beautiful face. How would she explain this to Little Nuisance when she woke up?
Regret crept into her heart, deepening the crease in her brow. She touched the gland at the back of her neck, took a moment to calm herself, then slipped out of bed and into the bathroom.
Xu Ci wearily opened her eyes, drifting in a daze before gradually regaining consciousness. Still disoriented, she slowly sat up, cradling her aching neck.
It smells so good.
The scent in the room was the same as the one emanating from the ice-cold beauty in the elevator.
Thinking of the stunning woman, Xu Ci couldn’t help but swoon inwardly. How can anyone be so breathtakingly beautiful? She looks like she stepped straight out of a two-dimensional world.
“You’re awake.”
Xu Ci startled, her gaze snapping to the source of the voice. There stood the expressionless, strikingly beautiful face she could never forget.
Clearly, Xu Ci hadn’t yet grasped whether this was a dream or reality. She froze, watching the beauty approach and stop before her, looking down at her with an air of cool detachment.
Xu Ci took a deep breath, snapping out of her daze. “You smell so good,” she blurted out.
Wen Lai’s eyebrows lifted slightly. Since yesterday, Little Nuisance had been saying she smelled good. She didn’t think people in this world could smell her pheromones, but she couldn’t help asking, “What do you mean by ‘smell good’? Is it my shampoo or body wash?”
“Neither. It’s your natural scent,” Xu Ci said, her eyes fixed on Wen Lai. Even her voice is beautiful, she thought, but she’s so cold, like snow that never melts.
This was the first time anyone in this world had told her she smelled good. Because of her pheromones and her job, she never wore perfume. To others, she usually smelled only of shampoo or body wash, if anything at all.
But Little Nuisance kept saying she smelled good. Wen Lai began to wonder if the girl could actually smell her pheromones. Her gaze softened slightly as she replied, “Really?”
Xu Ci nodded obediently.
Wen Lai’s eyes lingered on Xu Ci’s face for a few seconds before she got down to business. “Let’s talk about what happened last night,” she said. “Do you remember anything from last night?”
