Chapter 40: You Haven’t Been Touched Until you Cried at 30,000 Feet…
Liu Ran swallowed involuntarily. “Excuse me, I need to take this.”
She covered her phone and walked a distance away, turning her back before answering. It wasn’t anything major; Ming Siyu had a sudden craving for red bean paste sticky rice cakes from a specific shop that didn’t deliver. She wanted Liu Ran to pick some up on the way back.
After Liu Ran agreed, Ming Siyu asked casually how her chat with the Jians was going. Liu Ran replied that it was just ordinary small talk, and Ming Siyu hung up with a brief “Mhm.”
When Liu Ran returned, Jian Huaici’s eyes fell meaningfully on her phone. “You and Director Ming—”
She left the sentence hanging, but Liu Ran knew exactly what she was implying. Fearing a misunderstanding that might affect the relationship between the two CEOs, Liu Ran’s ears flushed red. “I lost a game; this is a punishment.”
Jian Huaici smiled knowingly. “Do you also hope my sister and Director Ming don’t end up together?”
How is that possible? Liu Ran was horrified. If Jian Huaijin and Ming Siyu got married, she would be the first to sincerely wish them a long and happy life. “I do hope so! Director Jian and Director Ming are a perfect match,” Liu Ran said hurriedly.
“I only hope my sister marries someone who truly loves her,” Jian Huaici said softly. “Liu Ran, we all know the truth to some extent. Director Ming doesn’t love my sister, does she?”
Liu Ran thought panickily: That’s actually true. It was almost impossible for Ming Siyu to truly love anyone; she seemed to lack the capacity for it. She was shocked that someone in these high-society circles was actually talking about “true love” rather than just interests.
“Feelings can be nurtured,” Liu Ran offered. “After spending time together and getting used to each other, they might find they can’t be apart.”
“I suppose,” Jian Huaici agreed. “Anyway, let’s not talk about that. I’ll respect my sister’s wishes.”
Jian Huaijin brought over the sliced fruit. She thanked Liu Ran again and asked how she could repay her. Jian Huaici chimed in, telling her not to be polite.
Liu Ran cautiously used a joking tone to voice her sincere hope: “The greatest wish for a subordinate like me is for Director Jian and Director Ming’s relationship to go smoothly.”
Unexpectedly, Jian Huaijin turned serious. “I apologize, Secretary Liu. I may be reconsidering my relationship with Siyu. I acted too hastily at the birthday gala by suggesting dates and an engagement without consulting her properly. This time, I will fully respect Siyu’s opinion. I plan to have a serious talk with her soon.”
Liu Ran’s heart went cold. If she understood the subtext correctly, Jian Huaijin was planning to end things.
At the birthday gala and during their subsequent meetings, Jian Huaijin had been the proactive one while Ming Siyu merely cooperated. Liu Ran had thought the “problem” was Ming Siyu, but now it seemed neither side was willing. This “blind date” setup by the Old Matriarch was ending after barely half a month.
If Jian Huaijin doesn’t step in, who is going to kick me out of Ming Siyu’s house?
Liu Ran left the villa in a daze. She only remembered Jian Huaijin insisting on a reward; since Liu Ran couldn’t think of one, Jian Huaijin promised to keep the “favor” open indefinitely, like a wish from a magic lamp. Liu Ran finally understood why Ming Siyu called Jian Huaijin “stiff and boring.”
Back at home, Liu Ran handed over the rice cakes. Ming Siyu ate one and stopped. Liu Ran struggled to hide her disappointment, but Ming Siyu didn’t give her much time to mope.
Ming Siyu pinned her to the sofa, kissing and touching her. The low mood was quickly replaced by scorching breaths. Liu Ran realized with horror that she was becoming increasingly attuned to Ming Siyu’s touch; even without hands, just having her tail toyed with caused white light to flash before her eyes.
Once again, she uncontrollably pressed against Ming Siyu’s scent gland, her teeth grazing the soft skin urgently, though she didn’t dare bite down.
Ming Siyu pulled back from a saliva-dampened wolf ear, kissing away Liu Ran’s tears. “Are you this sensitive just because you’re young?” she mused.
“You don’t even have a tail,” Liu Ran argued. She couldn’t describe the overwhelming sensation of having her tail ruthlessly played with.
Ming Siyu breathed into her ear, “But seeing the Little Wolf so wet makes the Master wet too. What should we do?”
Liu Ran swallowed hard, faking composure. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“You understand perfectly,” Ming Siyu said, giving her waist a meaningful squeeze before standing up and changing her tone. “But I was lying.”
Liu Ran watched Ming Siyu breathless on the sofa with damp, shiny lips—and suddenly remembered Jian Huaici saying that her sister’s heart ached whenever she cried. Her brain, foggy from desire, blurted out: “Director Ming, how do you feel when I cry?”
Ming Siyu glanced at her, as if wondering where the question came from. Then she answered without hesitation: “It feels great, obviously.”
Liu Ran: “…Okay.” Should have known better than to ask.
A few days later, Jian Huaijin indeed asked Ming Siyu out. When Ming Siyu returned, she seemed in high spirits, as if a weight had been lifted.
The Ming Group’s high-end residential project in Country B was complete, and the overseas manager invited Ming Siyu for the ribbon-cutting. Ming Siyu decided to take a vacation, booking a private flight to Country B with the intention of traveling around afterward. Secretary Wen arranged a visa for Liu Ran as well.
Two days before departure, while Liu Ran and Secretary Lin were reporting to Ming Siyu, He Qiange burst into the office wearing oversized sunglasses that covered half her face. She immediately told Liu Ran and Lin to leave.
Ming Siyu let Lin go but kept Liu Ran there.
“It’s a very important matter,” He Qiange stomped her foot. “The fewer people know, the better.” She looked at Liu Ran and sighed. “Fine, whatever, your Little Wolf doesn’t matter anyway.”
Liu Ran thought: I’ll just treat this as gossip.
He Qiange took off her glasses. Her beautiful eyes were swollen like peaches, with heavy dark circles underneath. She threw her bag on the sofa and said in despair: “Sisi, I’ve been marked.”
“Voluntarily or by force?” Ming Siyu asked.
He Qiange covered her face. “We both drank too much…”
Voluntary then. If it were forced, the Alpha would already be in jail.
“Go get it removed,” Ming Siyu said bluntly. “Painless removal tech exists now.”
Then came the bombshell: “I… I’m pregnant.”
Liu Ran took a massive “bite” of this gossip. Even Ming Siyu was shocked. He Qiange liked to play, but she wasn’t usually this careless.
“But Sisi,” He Qiange wailed, “if you knew who the other mother was, you’d think I’m cursed too.”
“Who?”
“Xiao Yuenong.”
Both Ming Siyu and Liu Ran widened their eyes. Liu Ran was shocked because Xiao Yuenong was a world-renowned violinist, a “pure fairy” in the public eye. Ming Siyu was shocked because Xiao Yuenong was the fiancée of He Qiange’s older sister—essentially, He Qiange’s nominal sister-in-law.
Ming Siyu, who had seen everything in the entertainment industry, was stunned for a full thirty seconds. She finally gave a thumbs up. “Qiange, you’re something else.”
He Qiange wailed about not being able to go home. Her sister doted on her, and she had repaid that by sleeping with her sister’s fiancée.
“Abort it,” Ming Siyu said directly.
He Qiange touched her flat belly. “But… I feel a bit reluctant…”
“That’s the hormones talking,” Ming Siyu said firmly. “What do you plan to do otherwise? Raise your sister-in-law’s child in secret? The best way is to abort, wash the mark, and swear Xiao Yuenong to silence. If your sister finds out, just kneel and beg for mercy; she won’t kill you.”
He Qiange eventually agreed but asked to stay at Ming Siyu’s place to hide. “I’m going to Country B immediately,” Ming Siyu said.
“I’ll go too!” He Qiange’s eyes lit up. “My sister trusts me when I’m with you, and Xiao Yuenong is in the country right now; I don’t want to see her.”
Ming Siyu agreed. Having He Qiange along would be like having a built-in tour guide.
The three of them departed on the private jet. Halfway through the ten-hour flight, Liu Ran went to the smallest of the three bedrooms to sleep.
She was looking out the window at the sparkling blue sea when the door opened. She sat up nervously, only to be pressed back down. The bed was narrow, and she felt like she might be squeezed off.
“Director Ming…” Liu Ran clutched the blanket as Ming Siyu approached.
Ming Siyu’s hand habitually slid under her clothes, pulling her tail out. She pinched the tip of it and breathed against her ear: “Ranran, you haven’t been touched until you cried at thirty thousand feet, have you?”
Later, He Qiange suggested to Ming Siyu: “Why don’t you and your Little Wolf just mark each other?”
Ming Siyu, looking satiated, asked, “Why?”
“After being marked, I finally understand why Alphas and Omegas become inseparable,” He Qiange said sadly. “It’s like an invisible thread tying you together. If you want to break free, you have to pull the thread out of your heart—the kind with barbs. That’s why people get depressed after washing a mark.”
She smiled weakly. “It would make the Little Wolf remember you for a lifetime. If… god forbid… you’re ever gone, she would mourn you forever because of the pheromones. It’s a way to possess her youth and soul for the rest of her life.”
Ming Siyu considered it. It sounded tempting. To occupy someone’s entire existence for the price of one year of her own life. But for Liu Ran, it might be cruel.
“She’s your pet,” He Qiange dismissed. “You can do whatever you want.”
Ming Siyu thought about it for hours but ultimately decided against it. An Alpha pet marking a Master? It went against the natural order of things.
They landed in Country B at a luxury resort on an artificial island. He Qiange went straight to sleep, while Ming Siyu, unable to adjust to the new bed yet, asked the manager to take her to see some properties. Jian Huaijin had asked her to help pick an apartment as a graduation gift for Jian Huaici.
She thought about taking Liu Ran, but seeing the girl looking drowsy with her ears drooping under her hat, she told her to just unpack the luggage and went alone with the manager.
