Chapter 38: Aside From Love, She Could Give Her Anything.
The posture was humiliating. However, Liu Ran had already done far more shameful things in front of Ming Siyu; by now, she didn’t find this particularly unbearable.
She wasn’t wearing a hat, so her wolf ears stood obediently among her hair. Her drowsy, misty eyes gazed unblinkingly at Ming Siyu. A section of her tail peeked out from beneath her nightgown.
Ming Siyu’s heart stirred. Her original intention was just to have Liu Ran sit beside her, but she hadn’t expected the girl to kneel and offer her face so submissively.
So obedient. Liu Ran had never been this compliant. She was so well-behaved that it made Ming Siyu want to crush her until she was wrinkled, to hear her cry out for mercy, to kiss away every tear, and to feel her body tremble under her touch.
Did the Little Wolf finally see the light? As long as she stayed obedient and offered her loyalty, Ming Siyu could give her anything—anything except love.
Ming Siyu took a deep breath, suppressing the chaotic desires in her heart. She turned her palm upward, flattening it against Liu Ran’s cheek, and curled her fingers.
Liu Ran’s lips twitched. She shifted slightly, pressing her face into Ming Siyu’s palm. Ming Siyu’s hand was cool. Liu Ran averted her gaze, lacking the courage to look her in the eye again. Knocking on this door had already exhausted nearly all the bravery she possessed.
She tried her best not to think about their current positions. Biting her lip, she reminded herself she was here to coax Ming Siyu out of her anger. Even though she didn’t think the anger was her fault, Ming Siyu had kept her promise and given her a room.
Liu Ran rubbed her cheek against the palm with tiny, subtle movements. Overcoming the hurdle in her heart, she let out a hum so quiet it was barely audible: “Do you… want to touch my ears?”
If she touches my ears, she won’t be angry anymore, right? Liu Ran wanted to say it, but couldn’t bring herself to be that bold. The tips of her ears turned a deep crimson. She blinked, and a single teardrop rolled down her cheek, landing wetly on Ming Siyu’s fingertip.
Ming Siyu snorted. “Getting you to lower your head and say something soft is harder than reaching the heavens. Didn’t you say only a lover can touch your ears? What does it mean now, begging me to touch them?”
Despite her words, one hand held Liu Ran’s face still while the other pinched a fluffy, soft wolf ear. The ears had just been washed; the fur was smooth and lustrous, the ear canal clean and pink, the cartilage thick and elastic like a furry rice dumpling. Ming Siyu flicked it with a finger; the ear wobbled like jelly before snapping back into place.
Liu Ran endured the surge of heat brought by the touch. “Lover” or not didn’t really matter anymore; Ming Siyu had touched them so many times already. Besides, Ming Siyu hadn’t cared about that rule before; she was clearly using it now just to needle her.
“I just want you to stop being angry,” Liu Ran replied in a muffled voice.
Ming Siyu looked down. “Did I scare you?”
Liu Ran shook her head. The movement caused the corner of her mouth to brush against the cold palm several times. “You were angry… and you didn’t eat dinner…”
Ming Siyu stared at the top of Liu Ran’s head, lost in thought. She understood the gesture. Liu Ran’s 180-degree turn in attitude was solely because of that bedroom. If Ming Siyu had broken her word or forced her own tastes on the decor, Liu Ran wouldn’t be knocking on her door.
The Little Wolf’s attempt at flattery was clumsy and simple. No dressing up, no gifts—just running over in pajamas with empty hands, stuffing her soft face into a palm, nuzzling like a puppy, and struggling to squeeze out a few gentle words as if it cost her half her life. She naively thought that letting her ears be touched would fix everything.
But Ming Siyu fell for it.
She had to admit that Liu Ran’s small actions had dissipated the irritability and despair that had been brewing all evening. Since the Little Wolf had finally yielded, Ming Siyu wasn’t about to let the opportunity go.
She murmured, “It’s easy to make me stop being angry. Give me the wolf ears to ‘eat’.”
The weight in her palm vanished instantly. Liu Ran sat bolt upright on the floor, clutching her ears in disbelief. “You can’t eat them!”
Help! Ming Siyu was a freak. She didn’t want dinner because she wanted to eat her ears! Liu Ran might not love these furry things, but they couldn’t be cruelly chopped off and put in a stew!
She had resolved to accept any request tonight, but “ear-eating” crossed a line. Her voice trembled. “They are wolf ears… but they’re my flesh. If you eat them, that’s… that’s cannibalism… you can’t eat people…”
“Do you have a persecution complex?” Ming Siyu was speechless. “I’m just going to bite them. Like I did the first night you came back with me. I’m too lazy to even pluck the fur to actually eat them; there’s barely any meat anyway.”
Oh. Liu Ran’s heart, which had climbed to her throat, settled halfway. She breathed a sigh of relief.
But having her ears bitten… was also difficult. The sensation of teeth was entirely different from hands. She swallowed hard. What if I go into heat and embarrass myself like that night? What if I have to ‘take care of it’ right in front of her again?
If Jian Huaijin knew she was in Ming Siyu’s room at midnight being played with, she’d probably want to grind Liu Ran into dust. Liu Ran herself felt it was quite immoral.
She weakly refused, “Director Ming, is this… appropriate? Director Jian…”
“Don’t mention Jian Huaijin in front of me,” Ming Siyu interrupted. “What is she to me? Right now, there is only you and me.”
Liu Ran shivered. “Then let me go take a suppressant first, just in case.”
“You’re not allowed to go.” Ming Siyu’s gentleness lasted only two minutes before her overbearing nature returned. “If you release pheromones, you’ll just have to endure it. If you get wet, wait until you go back to your room to change. And if you want to scream, don’t make a sound.”
Liu Ran’s face turned so red it looked like it would drip blood. How could Ming Siyu say such things so bluntly?
“You’re making things impossible. I let you touch them, what more do you want? If you won’t eat dinner, I’m going back to my room.”
“Give me a bite, and I’ll eat dinner.”
Liu Ran turned to leave on the spot, thinking, Fine, starve then. Why did she have to beg her to eat? It was that “rich miss” sickness again. Besides, she couldn’t understand the appeal of wolf ears—they were full of fur, wouldn’t they prick her mouth?
Ming Siyu was truly a master of taking an inch and demanding a mile. Liu Ran had barely softened her stance, and Ming Siyu immediately escalated to such an unreasonable demand!
However, when she reached the door, she realized she couldn’t open it. She had never seen this type of lock before and didn’t know how to operate it.
Ming Siyu leaned against the headboard, her fingers tapping rhythmically on the sheets. “Just a little bit. It’ll be over soon. Be good.”
Resigned to her fate, Liu Ran returned to Ming Siyu’s side, sat down, and lowered her head. Pouting, she said, “Then bite quickly.”
Ming Siyu adjusted her position, kneeling on the bed so she was taller than Liu Ran. She turned the girl’s shoulders to face her, pinched her nose, and whispered, “This time, the Little Wolf is surrendering them voluntarily.”
Liu Ran nervously licked her lips. Ming Siyu misinterpreted the gesture, leaning down to plant a kiss on her lips—a light, fleeting touch like a dragonfly skimming water. Liu Ran’s pupils dilated. She mumbled incoherently, “Kissing me won’t gross me out… I’m not afraid of you kissing me anymore…”
“Who says kissing is only for punishment? It can also be a reward.”
Ming Siyu no longer looked angry; in fact, she seemed quite happy. Liu Ran thought dazedley that Qi Zhen was right: Ming Siyu’s temper came fast and went faster.
Her head was pressed down. As one wolf ear was taken into a warm, moist mouth, her forehead pressed against Ming Siyu’s chest, her nose perfectly nestled into the cleavage exposed by the silk pajamas.
Liu Ran felt like she was about to launch into space. She—she—she was buried in Ming Siyu’s chest!
Whimper… how can I do this?
But… it smells so good… so soft…
The ear-biting made Liu Ran’s eyes overflow with tears. Ming Siyu didn’t just nibble the tips; she used her tongue to flick against the ear canal. The unspeakable itching made Liu Ran’s spine go numb. Her toes curled, her tail stood straight up, and her nightgown slid down to the base of her tail, leaving her legs completely exposed to Ming Siyu’s gaze.
She didn’t even dare wipe the tears that stained Ming Siyu’s chest. At this moment, there was a place on her body even damper than her eyes.
Her nape began to burn. She was going into heat again. She couldn’t stop the whimpers, pleading with a sob: “Are you done biting? I… I can’t hold it back…”
Ming Siyu finally showed mercy and let her go. She looked at the disheveled Little Wolf slumped on the edge of the bed, sobbing she had finally bullied the girl into the state she had imagined.
Satisfied, she didn’t miss a chance to tease: “What am I going to do with such a crybaby? In the future, when you’re doing it with someone and crying, will we have to measure whether more water leaked from your eyes or from down there?”
Liu Ran sniffled. “Stop talking nonsense.”
Ming Siyu touched her damp pajamas and said playfully, “You cried so much you soaked my clothes. I’m going to change. I’ll give you five minutes to ‘solve it’ yourself if you need to.” She paused, drawing out her words. “Five minutes should be enough, right? After all, you only took three minutes last time.”
Liu Ran’s face turned white then red. “What are you talking about! Five minutes, three minutes… I don’t understand! I don’t need even one minute!”
Ming Siyu unlocked the door for her. “At least go wash your ears?”
“I don’t need you to tell me!” Liu Ran bolted out, but turned back at the stairs, her cheeks puffed out with annoyance. “You’re coming down to eat, right? I’ll go heat it up.”
Ming Siyu wasn’t hungry; she had already had a nutrient pack. They tasted terrible, but she hadn’t been able to taste a thing when she drank it. Yet, she nodded. “Mhm.”
A few days later, Ming Siyu attended the Mayor’s daughter’s wedding and a charity auction with Jian Huaijin. Upon her return, she complained to He Qiange over the phone.
“Jian Huaijin is genuinely abnormal. During one wedding, she checked her phone no less than twenty times. I thought there was a crisis at her lab, but no—her sister was trying on clothes, and she had to send a photo of every single outfit for an opinion.” Ming Siyu imagined Ming Siwei sending her outfit photos and felt a shiver of disgust. “Would you and your sister do that?”
He Qiange stammered, “With my sister… no…”
“What’s wrong? Did you get into trouble and have to beg her again?”
“No,” He Qiange quickly changed the subject. “I didn’t expect Jian Huaijin’s hidden trait to be ‘sister-obsessed.’ But Siyu, do you really plan on developing things with her? She’s in medical research; as a friend, I think you two are quite a match. It’s just that she’s so boring.”
“It’s just a few fake dates to please my grandmother. I’m just satisfying her wish to see her granddaughter in a relationship. After a while, she won’t even have the chance to see it anymore. Besides, Jian Huaijin has no feelings for me.”
Ming Siyu was telling the truth. The look in Jian Huaijin’s eyes when she looked at Jian Huaici was more emotional than when she looked at her. The agreement to the marriage was likely an impulsive decision. They would probably just play the part for a month or two before returning to being pure business partners.
“Feelings can be nurtured,” He Qiange said, disappointed. “Boring or not, she’s good-looking and doesn’t seem like the type to cheat.”
Ming Siyu raised an eyebrow. “You’re interested in her? Don’t go near her.” He Qiange and Jian Huaijin were polar opposites.
“I wouldn’t dare. She looks like someone who plays for keeps. I only mess with people who can afford to play. Siyu, I’m coming back next week. This place is the source of golden pearls; I’ve met some experts. Want me to bring some back for you?”
Ming Siyu thought for a moment. “Find a large one. No need to design jewelry yet. Anything else is fine.”
Hanging up, Ming Siyu walked into the house to find several bouquets of dried flowers. Liu Ran, with her hair in a loose low ponytail, ran over to explain before Ming Siyu could frown.
“I saw the flower shop was clearing these out at a discount. They’re cheap and beautiful. If I sort them by color and decorate the house, it’ll look nice. I asked Sister Qi Zhen; you aren’t allergic to dried flowers… but if you think they’re ugly, I’ll put them all in my room. I promise not a single petal will be in your sight.”
Ming Siyu looked away dismissively. “Take them away. Why didn’t you ask me before buying?”
“I sent you a WeChat message, but you didn’t reply. I was afraid the discount would end, so I bought them first. They were super cheap all this for only 19.9 yuan, and free delivery!”
Ming Siyu checked her phone and saw the message from hours ago. She had been at the auction with Jian Huaijin and hadn’t noticed. “Keep them in your room. Don’t let them appear in the living room.”
“Yes, Director Ming!” Liu Ran scurried to gather them up.
Around 11:00 PM, Ming Siyu’s phone vibrated several times. Liu Ran had sent her several photos of different arrangements she had made with the dried flowers—there was even a dried flower bunny. A message followed: Director Ming, which one do you like? I can give it to you.
The corners of Ming Siyu’s mouth curved upward. Looking at the house she had lived in for years, she had never felt it was lacking, but now it felt slightly empty. She imagined the dried flower arrangements in various corners; they actually matched the overall style quite well.
But she had just rejected them. Would asking for them now be a “slap in the face”?
Then she reconsidered: Liu Ran’s things were her things. How could asking for her own property be a slap in the face? It was only natural.
She typed: “Give them all to me.”
Two seconds later, Liu Ran’s door opened a crack. A head peeked out. “Ming Siyu, are you a bandit?”
Ming Siyu beckoned. “Bring them here, quickly.”
Liu Ran heartbreakingly contributed all her dried flowers to decorate the first floor. She rarely went to the second floor, so she didn’t put any there. Ming Siyu took her things shamelessly, acting as if it were a great honor for Liu Ran that she even liked them. What was worse was that Liu Ran found this behavior perfectly “reasonable” coming from Ming Siyu and was gradually getting used to it.
Compared to the loss of her flowers, Liu Ran was more concerned about the “dating” progress. She mentioned Jian Huaici to Ming Siyu in a roundabout way: “Director Ming, isn’t Jian Huaici overseeing the pharmaceutical factory partnership in the neighboring city? Today she said the wastewater treatment pipes need to be extended by fifty meters to meet environmental standards.
It needs more space, and they might have to dig up the finished corridors… Should we have a meal with Director Jian to discuss it?”
To Ming Siyu, such minor construction issues weren’t worth her personal time. “Just tell the engineer. What’s the point of telling Jian Huaijin? She doesn’t understand engineering.”
Liu Ran gave a disappointed “Oh.”
Just then, Ming Siyu’s phone rang. It was Jian Huaijin. Liu Ran immediately switched to “gossip mode.”
“Speak of the devil,” Ming Siyu said, answering the call. But after hearing what Jian Huaijin had to say, she stood up abruptly. “What?”
Liu Ran stood up too. Ming Siyu’s expression turned solemn as she spoke rapidly: “Okay, I understand. I’ll bring people there as soon as possible.”
She hung up and started walking out while looking for contacts on her phone. It was the first time Liu Ran had seen Ming Siyu look so alarmed. It was 11:00 PM; it had to be an emergency. “What happened?” she asked nervously.
Ming Siyu stopped. “You’re coming with me.”
Liu Ran grabbed a hooded jacket and followed her out. In the elevator, Ming Siyu told her grimly: Jian Huaici was missing. And she had likely disappeared at the construction site.
In their partnership, Ming Siyu provided the land and equipment while Jian Huaijin provided the technology. With the production lines still under construction, if someone disappeared on her site, the responsibility fell on her. Even if Jian Huaijin didn’t handle group affairs much anymore, she was still the current sole power of Jian Pharmaceuticals and she adored Jian Huaici. If something really happened to the girl, it would be a disaster.
Liu Ran was shocked. Jian Huaici had been talking to Secretary Lin at noon; Liu Ran had overheard the whole thing. How could she vanish in half a day?
“She was even sending photos to Jian Huaijin this afternoon,” Ming Siyu said.
But disappearance often happens in an instant.
The car sped onto the main road. Ming Siyu’s face was dark as she floored it, the car shooting into the vast black night like an arrow. Along the way, she contacted the site manager, Secretary Lin, the project lead, and the designer, ordering them to meet at the site immediately. She didn’t want to call the police unless absolutely necessary. Fortunately, the highway was empty at night. At 1:30 AM, they arrived.
The site had changed significantly since Liu Ran’s last visit. A group of people had gathered at the entrance one group of workers and another group brought by Jian Huaijin. Jian Huaijin looked as steady and solemn as ever, but her slightly messy hair and the mud on her clothes betrayed her. She strode over the moment Ming Siyu got out of the car.
Liu Ran sensed an aggressive aura from Jian Huaijin and instinctively stepped in front of Ming Siyu. Then, realizing Jian Huaijin was dating Ming Siyu and wouldn’t hit her, she stepped back.
Jian Huaijin was suppressing her breathing, but Liu Ran could tell she was trembling.
“Xiao Ci lost contact after 6:00 PM. She just got her license, so I let her drive here herself. Since six, she hasn’t answered calls or texts. We checked the surveillance, but it’s incomplete. The last time she appeared on camera was at 5:50 PM.”
Jian Huaijin wiped her forehead and showed Ming Siyu a photo of Jian Huaici wearing a hard hat from the surveillance footage. “Siyu, this is your construction site. You have to help me find her.”
Ming Siyu asked, “Are you sure she’s still in the factory area? Does she have any enemies?”
“The car she drove is still here. Xiao Ci has always been under my care; she doesn’t have enemies,” Jian Huaijin replied.
“The cameras near the gate are the most complete. Check for suspicious vehicles again,” Ming Siyu commanded. “Engineer Fu, take two people to check the footage. Our construction hard hats are all numbered and have simple emergency distress beacons. Site Lead Li, go collect the hard hats and see which one is missing. If she didn’t return hers, she’s likely still wearing it. See if we can track the positioning to narrow the range.”
This was a massive industrial development zone, and Ming Siyu’s factory was only a small part of it. Many buildings were ten or twenty stories high; searching floor by floor would be exhausting.
Ming Siyu tried to calm Jian Huaijin. “If she has no enemies, it’s usually not a major crime. She might have just fallen somewhere and been knocked out. We’re doing massive pipe renovations; there are holes everywhere.”
Liu Ran added, “Yes, we were talking about the sewage pipes at noon.”
Jian Huaijin paced like a trapped animal. “I shouldn’t have let her drive here alone…” Her every word was thick with self-reproach and despair.
Suddenly, Jian Huaijin threw a punch toward the car window behind Ming Siyu. From Liu Ran’s perspective, the punch looked like it was aimed at Ming Siyu. Without thinking, she raised her hand to block it, catching Jian Huaijin’s fist in her palm. Jian Huaijin had considerable strength; a loud “clap” echoed as the fist hit Liu Ran’s hand. All three were stunned.
Liu Ran awkwardly retracted her hand. “Sorry, I…”
Ming Siyu’s gaze swept over both their faces. “Are you two playing high-five? Find the girl.”
Secretary Lin arrived a moment later, having learned the situation on her way. She brought two umbrellas, keeping one and handing the other to Liu Ran. “Director Ming, the weather forecast says there will be a heavy storm soon. You and Director Jian should wait in the car. We’ll find her. Miss Huaici will be fine.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a low roll of thunder rumbled through the sky. Immediately after, a torrential downpour began to fall.
