Chapter 23: The Little Wolf Secretary, Hand-Trained from Scratch…
Ming Siyu went home the same night she woke up in the hospital.
After a good night’s sleep, she headed back to the office the next day to handle business. One of the investment projects in her self-founded real estate investment firm had hit a snag. The original plan involved a collaboration with several PhDs specializing in biological environmental protection: she would provide the capital and factory space, while they provided the technology to run an eco-friendly product factory.
The land had been selected, the approvals were passed, and the funds for the factory construction were in place. Just as they were about to break ground, the PhDs suddenly backed out to collaborate with someone else.
They paid some liquidated damages, but the land had been applied for under the category of “biological environmental protection.” Even if she changed the production line now, the new product had to be related to biology, environmentalism, or pharmaceuticals. Otherwise, for every day the project sat idle, capital was being wasted.
Ming Siyu didn’t lack the money for this project; she was simply frustrated by the other party’s breach of faith. This company was something she had built from scratch before she was twenty, pouring immense time and energy into it, so she naturally felt more protective of it. Secretary Wen had started as her secretary here before the focus shifted to the family’s entertainment group; because the group lacked personnel, Wen had been transferred there.
After consulting with the other shareholders, Ming Siyu decided to continue factory construction while searching for new technical investors who met the requirements.
Her secretary at the real estate firm noticed her odd gait and the obvious new wound on her lower lip, asking the boss out of concern what had happened.
Ming Siyu sneered, “Bitten by a dog.”
The secretary was stunned. Bitten by a dog again? Director Ming’s dog seemed to have a bit of a fierce temperament…
With Secretary Wen getting married, a lot of tasks at the group now required Ming Siyu’s direct intervention. After several days of running back and forth between the two companies, Ming Siyu felt exhausted. Whenever she was tired or in a foul mood, her Skin Hunger flared up more easily than usual.
Liu Ran was repeatedly called to the office to act as a “comfort dog.” Ming Siyu would pet her while reading documents, leaving Liu Ran to grit her teeth and suppress her arousal. However, Ming Siyu no longer forced her under the desk or humiliated her in front of subordinates. Each time, Liu Ran would weep with red-eyed indignation but never bit her again.
Still, the constant summoning was a hassle. Once, Ming Siyu called Liu Ran to the Ming Entertainment Group office, but before Liu Ran arrived, Ming Siyu had to rush to the real estate firm for a meeting, forcing her to tell the driver to redirect the girl.
During a lunch with He Qiange, she mentioned the situation.
He Qiange, always full of ideas, immediately offered a suggestion: “Since Secretary Wen is away, why don’t you let your little wolf act as your temporary secretary? Take her wherever you go; you can pet her whenever you want. What’s the saying? ‘The secretary handles the work when busy, and—cough—handles the secretary when free.'”
As He Qiange described it, an image flickered in Ming Siyu’s mind: Liu Ran wearing a professional suit, kneeling at her feet, trembling and crying. It was… a very enticing proposal.
But—
“She’s stupid. She knows nothing. Her greatest skill is causing trouble for me.”
He Qiange dismissed this. “Then teach her. No one is born a secretary. Secretary Wen is so perfectly in sync with you now because you trained her bit by bit, didn’t you?”
Leaning in, He Qiange flashed a suggestive smile: “A little wolf secretary hand-trained by you will only do things the way Director Ming taught her.”
Ming Siyu smiled faintly. “Qiange, I’ve finally discovered the career you were born for.”
“What?”
“Adult film director.”
Ming Siyu didn’t take the suggestion seriously. Liu Ran had been a bit more obedient lately, but overall, she was still highly rebellious; her level of compliance was far from sufficient. Keeping her by her side was like carrying a time bomb. Besides, Liu Ran was only nineteen and knew nothing. Ming Siyu was busy enough as it was and had no time to train a complete novice from scratch.
One morning, Ming Siyu had to head to the Group to hold a short meeting with several executives, and she brought Liu Ran along.
It was Liu Ran’s first time “going to work” with Ming Siyu. While Ming Siyu was in the meeting, Liu Ran watered the plants in the office. There were several rare and beautiful Golden Camellias in the room, and their leaves had looked a bit dry lately. Liu Ran couldn’t bear to see such beautiful flowers wither, so she had looked up care instructions to hydrate them.
When the meeting ended, Ming Siyu returned to the office. She brought a new laptop for Liu Ran to use while she was bored.
“Wait for me here. Don’t touch my computer,” Ming Siyu warned.
Liu Ran nodded. Ming Siyu’s computer was password-protected; she couldn’t get in even if she tried.
Ming Siyu was heading out to discuss a partnership. The Group was planning a reality show. They had done reality shows before, but this one was special it was a collaborative project proposed by the government to change the negative stereotypes imperial citizens held toward the government.
The topics and scripts were ready, and the shooting plan had a rough framework. However, since the cast wasn’t just celebrities but included government personnel, the sponsors had to be negotiated by both sides. The other party had politely requested Director Ming’s personal presence, and she couldn’t refuse the request.
The meeting was at the A-City Government Business Reception Hall. The car was parked below the Group building. Secretary Zhou had prepared the relevant materials and handed them to Ming Siyu as they boarded.
Ming Siyu had a habit of drinking coffee while reading materials in the car; otherwise, she would feel dizzy upon stepping out. Secretary Wen always prepared a hot Flat White in advance. Opening the first page of the file, Ming Siyu habitually reached for the cup holder, only to find it empty.
She looked up. Secretary Zhou was looking at her with an expectant yet timid expression, nervously asking, “Director Ming, is there a problem with the materials?”
Ming Siyu’s expression was indifferent. “When Secretary Wen handed over her duties to you, did she tell you that I drink coffee while reading files in the car?”
Hearing this, Secretary Zhou’s mind went blank with a “bang.” No wonder she felt like she’d forgotten something… Secretary Wen had reminded her, but she was so focused on checking the data that she forgot the coffee.
Although she was an administrative secretary, she rarely dealt directly with Ming Siyu, spending most of her time assisting Secretary Wen. This was her first time going out for a major negotiation; she and her colleagues had prepared for a long time, checking everything repeatedly. She thought they were flawless, but she had still messed up.
Secretary Zhou looked like she was about to burst into tears. “I’m so sorry, Director Ming. Secretary Wen did tell me. I’ll go buy one right now…”
Ming Siyu slammed the files onto the tray table. “No need. Just read the key points to me—”
Before she could finish, she caught sight of someone sprinting toward the car out of the corner of her eye, shouting: “Wait a second!”
It was Liu Ran. She was holding something, cradling it carefully. Because her arms couldn’t coordinate with the running motion of her legs, her posture was bizarre like a wagging-tailed Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Ming Siyu said to the driver, “Wait.”
Liu Ran reached the car and knocked on Ming Siyu’s window. As the glass slid down, Liu Ran held out the item in her hands: “Ming Si… Director Ming, do you want to drink some coffee?”
