Chapter 22: The Soft, Plump Lip Peak Must Taste Extraordinary…
Ming Siyu’s original intention was merely to scare Liu Ran, but she hadn’t expected the girl to actually believe she was seeking an eye for an eye. Liu Ran naively offered up her lips, though goosebumps rose along her arms as she braced herself against the edge of the bed, clearly terrified of the impending kiss.
They were less than an inch away from those red, full lips; a slight tilt of the head would be enough to lock them.
The soft, plump lip peak the philtrum’s bow must have an extraordinary texture when bitten.
The skin of the lips is thin, but densely packed with blood vessels and nerves. It would only take a little pressure to taste fresh, metallic blood. The crimson would stain both their lips, seeping into the fine lines of the skin, filling their senses with a taste that was both desperate and alluring.
Liu Ran was different from others; she wouldn’t go back on her word. Even if she were bitten until she bled, she wouldn’t hide. One could savor her while listening to the little wolf’s adorable, muffled whimpers.
Ming Siyu’s eyelashes fluttered. She reached out and gave Liu Ran a light, playful slap on the cheek.
Liu Ran clutched her face, her voice escaping in shock: “Didn’t you say you wanted to bite?”
Why the sudden slap?
“You forgot the rules. Baring your teeth is forbidden, and biting is a compounding sin. This slap is a reminder,” Ming Siyu said in a cold voice before closing her eyes. “I need to rest. Get away from me.”
What a strange temper. Liu Ran silently gnashed her teeth and went to sit on the sofa far from the hospital bed.
Ming Siyu was being treated at a private hospital. Unlike the doctor at the public hospital, the staff here were exceptionally polite. They didn’t ask a single question about the patient’s personal life and treated the patient like a god.
She was in an SVIP suite. In addition to the bed, there was a sofa, a rest area for caregivers, a private bathroom, a dining area filled with fresh flowers, a projector… there were even game consoles and a separate office zone. Behind the computer desk was a wooden bookshelf filled with real books, not decorative husks.
Liu Ran turned on the computer to surf the web. However, social media platforms now required real-name authentication. Without a phone number to register an account, she could only browse as a guest. Guest accounts were heavily restricted; often, she’d find an interesting post only for a “Please Log In” pop-up to appear the moment she clicked to read more.
Liu Ran had been offline for too long and wanted to catch up with the trends of the era. She started with enthusiasm, but after being blocked repeatedly, her interest waned. She switched to playing small games that didn’t require an account.
As she played, her wolf ears pricked up high, and the tip of her tail peeked out from under the chair, wagging excitedly. Suddenly, the tips of her ears flickered, and she turned her face toward Ming Siyu.
Ming Siyu wasn’t asleep; she was watching her.
Liu Ran licked her lips. “Aren’t you resting?”
Ming Siyu had put her glasses back on at some point, her gaze unreadable behind the lenses. “The sound of you clicking the mouse is loud.”
Loud?
Liu Ran looked down at the mouse. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her in-game character get hit by a dart. “Game Over” flashed on the screen. “I didn’t notice. I’ll stop playing.”
Ming Siyu needed to use the bathroom. Seeing her limp, Liu Ran felt a twinge of amusement even the “evil” Ming Siyu had her bad days—followed quickly by a sense of guilt. Did I bite too hard?
Truly, she only needed to hurt Ming Siyu; she didn’t necessarily have to draw blood.
She watched Ming Siyu enter the bathroom and waited for her to come out. After lying back down, Ming Siyu didn’t sleep. She started checking her phone, taking calls, and sending messages. Liu Ran reluctantly left the computer and pulled a book from the shelf. A moment later, she was criticized again in an unpleasant tone: “The sound of you turning pages is bothering me.”
How pretentious. Liu Ran silently rolled her eyes.
Just as Ming Siyu finished speaking, Qi Zhen arrived with a thermal container. A nurse also brought in a patient’s meal. The hospital food was surprisingly luxurious and refined—light, but not flavorless. The meal Qi Zhen brought was even more aromatic.
Ming Siyu was used to Qi Zhen’s cooking and intended to let the nurse take the hospital meal away untouched. Liu Ran swallowed hard; she hadn’t eaten since the previous night. She raised her hand. “Um, can I eat the hospital meal?”
With Ming Siyu’s permission, Liu Ran dug in. Ming Siyu had a poor appetite and took small bites, watching Liu Ran as she ate. The “bland” hospital food seemed like a delicacy to the girl; her cheeks puffed out like a hamster’s as she chewed quickly, her wolf ears twitching rhythmically with every bite.
What terrible table manners. She must have starved to death in a past life, Ming Siyu thought. Yet, watching her, she found herself taking a few extra bites of her own food.
A while after the meal, a doctor came to change Ming Siyu’s bandages. Ming Siyu happened to be in the bathroom brushing her teeth, so the doctor nodded politely to Liu Ran. “Fever’s gone, I assume?”
Liu Ran nodded slowly. “Doctor, how did you know I had a fever?”
A hint of surprise flashed in the doctor’s eyes. “Director Ming didn’t tell you? That day it rained heavily, she called me to the house specifically to prescribe medicine for you.”
Liu Ran froze. It wasn’t her own constitution that got her through it… Ming Siyu had actually called a doctor for her?
The doctor continued, “You’re the one who bit her, right? Next time, go easier. It was almost a full-thickness tear; any deeper and she would have needed stitches.”
Liu Ran blinked, dazed. “Oh… okay. I… I’ll remember.”
The water in the bathroom stopped. The doctor ended the conversation and focused on checking Ming Siyu’s leg, applying new medication and re-bandaging it. While the dressings were being changed, Liu Ran stole a glance at Ming Siyu’s leg.
On that slender, snowy-white calf previously without a single blemish were two ugly, circular wounds. They hadn’t fully scabbed over, leaving raw flesh exposed. Despite the doctor using the gentlest medication and the lightest touch, Ming Siyu’s eyelashes trembled from the pain. Yet, other than a slight furrow of her brow, she showed no sign of agony. She even took a phone call to discuss changing a business partner.
Omegas have very sensitive nerves; they feel pain much more acutely.
Looking at Ming Siyu working so diligently even while hospitalized, Liu Ran felt a strange, uncomfortable sensation in her heart.
She hated Ming Siyu. But at this moment, the woman who had done so many terrible things to her seemed… a little bit pathetic.
Thinking back, Ming Siyu hadn’t actually made a huge deal out of the bite. Even in her extreme anger after being bitten, she had let Liu Ran sleep with wet hair on her 2.8 million yuan sofa and hired a doctor for her.
Ming Siyu was indeed awful in some ways, but in others, she possessed a surprising, unexpected tenderness.
Realizing she was beginning to forgive Ming Siyu, Liu Ran frantically pinched herself.
Once the wound heals, the pain is forgotten? Had she already forgotten the wicked face Ming Siyu made when she pinned her under that desk?
