Chapter 14: Does Kissing Her… Count as Punishment?
Opportunities to leave the house were rare. Liu Ran certainly didn’t want to be sent back immediately after being delivered like cargo just to be humiliated and toyed with.
“I’ll wait for you.”
Ming Siyu fished out the key to the muzzle and tossed it to Liu Ran, letting her unlock it herself.
The keyhole was at the back of her head. Liu Ran held the tiny key less than two centimeters long and fumbled laboriously behind her head to find the lock. Ming Siyu simply watched her movements, showing no intention of stepping forward to help.
Ming Siyu’s gaze drifted down, landing on the open collar. That patch of skin was flushed pink, and the tooth mark on the collarbone was a deeper shade of red than the surrounding flesh.
The fingers holding the cigarette tightened slightly. Ming Siyu licked the corner of her lip.
Liu Ran wasn’t just soft fur. The part of her that was a human body tasted quite good, too.
Ming Siyu didn’t linger. She tossed the unlit cigarette into the trash, touched up her lipstick in the mirror, and pushed open the other door of the suite to leave. Before exiting, she warned Liu Ran once more: “Do not leave my office.”
It took Liu Ran a while to finally undo the muzzle. She rubbed her reddened cheeks, cursing Ming Siyu in her heart for being subhuman.
Thirsty, she wanted to find some water. After searching the lounge for a long time, she couldn’t find a single disposable cup. Her eyes shifted toward the door Ming Siyu had just walked through.
Ming Siyu had said not to leave the office. The lounge was part of the office, so checking the main room should be fine. There were bound to be cups there.
The moment she turned the doorknob, Liu Ran tried to straighten her back. After being treated that way by Ming Siyu, looking for a drink of water was a perfectly reasonable right; there was no reason to feel guilty.
She didn’t need to worry about being seen, either. When following Secretary Wen earlier, she had noticed that this entire floor belonged to Ming Siyu and was largely empty. It was even less likely for anyone to be in the Director’s private office.
Behind the door was indeed Ming Siyu’s office. It featured a minimalist decor—mostly gentle beige and heavy solid-wood brown, interspersed with black, white, and gray. Inside and out, it radiated a cold, ascetic aura. Just like Ming Siyu herself.
However, the office wasn’t empty as she had imagined.
A woman with long, curly hair and red lips was draped across a “cloud” sofa, waving at her. “Hi there, Sisi’s little treasure~”
Liu Ran was forced to sit opposite He Qiange.
Since leaving the underground lab, she had developed a bit of social anxiety. Dealing with someone like He Qiange who acted like an old friend with everyone—made her even more clumsy. He Qiange’s gaze made her uncomfortable; it was playful, novel, and glowing with excitement, much like someone looking at a rare breed of kitten or puppy at a market.
He Qiange’s eyes rolled over her once before she flicked her hair. “Mhm, they really are the clothes I picked. you showcase them quite well. No wonder Sisi likes you.”
Ever since seeing Liu Ran and Ming Siwei’s “ambiguous” moment on the monitor and watching Ming Siyu rush home to “catch them,” He Qiange hadn’t found another chance to ask Ming Siyu for photos. Today, she had come to find Ming Siyu out of boredom, only to find her heading into an important board meeting. Coincidentally, less than an hour before the meeting started, Ming Siyu’s Skin Hunger had flared up.
According to Ming Siyu, when the condition hit, she couldn’t do anything except focus on a frantic craving for fur. The drive from the company to her house was nearly thirty minutes one way not enough time to go home for a fix. Ming Siyu had tried every textured object in her office, but the relief they provided was a mere drop in the ocean.
Once she had experienced Liu Ran, other “furs” no longer worked for her. It was a classic case of “having seen the ocean, no other water counts.”
He Qiange had immediately suggested: “Just have someone bring the little wolf to your office.”
In her desperation, Ming Siyu accepted the proposal.
He Qiange finally got her wish and saw her friend’s little wolf. She was even more beautiful than she had imagined. An S-grade Alpha with top-tier beauty, plus unique wolf ears and a tail—He Qiange felt a phantom itch in her own heart, wondering if she should buy a “furry” to play with at home one day.
After briefly introducing herself, He Qiange couldn’t wait to start gossiping.
“Did Sisi throw a huge fit when she got home last time? Did she punish you… or something? Do you know? The person who went to Sisi’s house last time was her sister, and she’s already been exiled to Country G because of you.”
If Ming Siwei was punished that severely, Liu Ran’s fate likely wasn’t much better.
Liu Ran frowned as she listened. Country G? Wasn’t that the furthest country from Country A? Why would Ming Siwei be sent there? Was it really just because Liu Ran had helped her up?
Ming Siyu couldn’t be that petty, could she? She and Ming Siwei had barely exchanged a few words. And Ming Siwei was her only sister.
Then again, the more outrageous a thing was, the more “normal” it seemed when it involved Ming Siyu. It turned out Ming Siyu wasn’t just vicious to her she was like that to everyone.
Seeing her dazed expression, He Qiange was surprised. “Sisi didn’t punish you?”
“Ah?” Liu Ran snapped back.
Punishment. Did kissing her… count?
He Qiange’s expression turned strange. Her friend had sent her sister to the other side of the planet, yet hadn’t laid a finger on this expensive little plaything? This was very un-Ming Siyu. Ming Siyu was never soft-hearted. Even if she confirmed that Liu Ran and Ming Siwei were perfectly innocent, based on her understanding of Ming Siyu, she would usually have taken the opportunity to “teach the wolf its place.”
From this perspective, Ming Siyu might actually be getting soft. Whether it was because Liu Ran was special to her, or because she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and felt her days were numbered—hoping to earn some karmic merit—that cold, frenzied ruthlessness seemed to have faded slightly over the years.
He Qiange thought back to the day Ming Siyu disclosed her illness. Ming Siyu had been dead drunk, her eyes red, the loneliness in them like a desolate field in a rainstorm.
“Qiange, the doctor said I won’t live past twenty-eight.”
Thinking of this, He Qiange felt a surge of sympathy for her friend’s fate. Having met Ming Siyu after she got sick, Liu Ran had actually caught her at a “good” time.
She said to Liu Ran earnestly, “Sisi is actually quite pitiful. Her temper is bad, so just humor her. She’s fine once she lets it out… She has a house full of useless, blood-sucking relatives, and she supports everything alone. It’s really not easy. Sisi said you like her quite a bit, so just be a little nicer to her.”
Hearing this, Liu Ran almost laughed out of pure rage.
Ming Siyu? Pitiful?
What kind of international joke was this? If Ming Siyu qualified as “pitiful,” then Liu Ran must be a world-class victim deserving of a humanitarian rescue mission.
The joys and sorrows of humans truly weren’t shared. And which of Ming Siyu’s eyes had seen that she “liked” her? She hated Ming Siyu down to her very last hair!
Ming Siyu’s meeting lasted nearly two hours. During that time, He Qiange spent half the time talking about how hard Ming Siyu had it, and the other half asking with great interest about the changes before and after Liu Ran’s genetic modification. These were all topics Liu Ran hated. He Qiange was even more annoying than Ming Siyu; while Ming Siyu mostly said things people didn’t like to hear, at least she didn’t talk much.
Liu Ran plucked up her courage to end the conversation and return to the lounge. Unfortunately, she had let the door close behind her, and it required Ming Siyu’s fingerprint to unlock. She had no choice but to go back to the office.
She finally endured until Ming Siyu returned. Ming Siyu was speaking calmly to Secretary Wen; the meeting seemed to have gone well.
