Chapter 12: Has Ming Siyu Ever Kissed Anyone Else…
For several days in a row, Liu Ran didn’t dare look Ming Siyu in the eye.
Even if Ming Siyu was just passing by or sitting quietly at the table eating, the moment she entered Liu Ran’s field of vision or even if Liu Ran just sensed her presence she would uncontrollably think of that kiss.
In the next second, her lips would begin to burn. Ming Siyu’s light breath felt as if it were right next to her face, teasing her cheeks and nose until they itched. The base of her tail would follow with a numbing ache, forcing her to grab her tail and twist it hard, using pain to mask the strange sensation.
When Ming Siyu wasn’t home, it was just her and Qi Zhen. Managing a 700-square-meter duplex wasn’t easy; Qi Zhen was usually busy and rarely spoke to her.
Qi Zhen never breathed a word about what she had seen that night. She only asked once, when she noticed Liu Ran’s cheeks were flushed red: “Miss Liu, are you feeling sick?”
Liu Ran shook her head frantically in panic. “No, no. I’m probably just a bit hot.”
It was a lasting, indelible punishment. And Ming Siyu’s attitude—acting as if the kiss had never happened—made Liu Ran suffer even more.
She couldn’t stop wondering: how could Ming Siyu act like nothing had occurred? Ming Siyu was the one who initiated the kiss, yet it was Liu Ran who spent her nights tossing and turning in agitation.
Could it be that for Ming Siyu, a kiss that barely went deep was just a common tactic to deal with people she disliked? Does she punish everyone she hates with a kiss? Ming Siyu’s casualness about it made Liu Ran wonder if she kissed different people so often that it felt no different from a handshake.
Liu Ran couldn’t stop her wild thoughts. Eventually, they evolved into the ultimate, unanswerable question: Has Ming Siyu ever actually kissed anyone else?
She felt her mind was becoming abnormal.
Before this, no one besides her sick mother had occupied her brain for so long. Ming Siyu was a definitive villain; her methods of revenge were too sophisticated, completely unconventional, leaving Liu Ran without a counter-strategy.
While Liu Ran was spiraling in inner conflict, Ming Siyu treated her as she always did: ignoring her like air when uninterested, not even sparing her a glance all day, but capturing her to play with her tail and ears whenever the whim struck.
Liu Ran refused every time, of course. But when Ming Siyu approached with that irresistible scent of blizzard-chilled perfume, the present would overlap with the image of their lips touching that night. Her brain would stall, her limbs would refuse to obey. She even began to suspect if Ming Siyu was some kind of sentient, inhalable poison otherwise, why did she get dizzy whenever she got close?
Ming Siyu would wickedly pinch the tip of her tail, feeling the large plume struggle fruitlessly. “Hmm, does the little wolf remember how she bullied her Master last time? This is all punishment for being naughty.”
Liu Ran: …Who exactly is bullying whom?
She was wrong. She was truly wrong. She shouldn’t have expected human-like requests to work on this heartless woman. She didn’t even dare to bare her fangs anymore not because she was worried about breaking the “first rule,” but because she was terrified Ming Siyu would take the opportunity to kiss her again. That would be a nightmare.
Ming Siyu didn’t play with her entirely for “free,” either.
In addition to the sets of expensive clothes, Liu Ran received several new pairs of panties. Like the ones before that were a size too small, these were sorted into frosted bags and placed neatly in a logo-less paper bag. She tried a pair; the size was perfect, the elasticity comfortable, and the hole in the back was just right for her tail. Finally, she didn’t have to wear small-sized underwear that pinched her skin until it hurt.
With her ears drooping, Liu Ran couldn’t help but mutter: Is Ming Siyu giving me a sweet date after giving me a slap?
The moment the thought appeared, she pinched herself. How are basic necessities like underwear considered a “sweet date”? Ming Siyu has truly tortured me into insanity.
The only comfort was that Ming Siyu no longer restricted her food or water. Qi Zhen’s cooking was exceptionally delicious. Previously, in the black-hearted underground research facility, she only had scraps or tasteless nutrient shots; her weight had long since dropped below normal.
Now, she enjoyed her meals every day. Of course, when Ming Siyu didn’t eat at home, Qi Zhen didn’t cook separately for her; she basically ate Ming Siyu’s leftovers. Perhaps because her previous diet was so poor, it took Liu Ran only seconds to accept the reality of eating leftovers. Besides, Ming Siyu only touched the food a few times; the dishes looked brand new, and if she didn’t eat them, they’d just be thrown away. Wasteful.
Despite being frequently humiliated and spending her days curled on the sofa or in the dark room, Liu Ran’s complexion began to grow rosy.
Once, after Ming Siyu finished playing with her tail, she even pinched Liu Ran’s cheek.
“Not bad. Your fur will only grow softer if you have enough nutrition.”
Life went on in this dazed fashion for about a week. Liu Ran had nothing to threaten Ming Siyu with and was instead easily manipulated by her; surprisingly, their coexistence became quite harmonious.
One cloudy afternoon a week later, Liu Ran was sitting on the rug flipping through a picture book. Ming Siyu had a massive study. Two days ago, Liu Ran had watched Ming Siyu bring this book out; the world behind that door had flashed before her eyes for a split second before being hidden again by the heavy solid wood.
Ming Siyu had flipped through a few pages by the window and casually left it on the coffee table. When Liu Ran moved closer to touch the cover, Ming Siyu permitted the action. The price was a quick rub of her ears while she was looking down at the book. Before Liu Ran could react, Ming Siyu had already retracted her hand with practiced ease.
As she flipped through the pages, Liu Ran thought about how to find a chance to visit her mother at the nursing home. She hadn’t seen her in months. They were in the same city, yet meeting was as difficult as reaching the heavens.
Should I beg Ming Siyu? If Ming Siyu found out about her mother, she would have one more way to blackmail her into submission, and Liu Ran would have no room left to resist.
Her mother was her only treasure in this world; the fewer people who knew, the better.
Maybe when she was finally allowed to go out, she could use an excuse and sneak over for a look…
The sound of the door unlocking snapped Liu Ran back to reality. Qi Zhen, who had gone out for groceries, returned early. She hurried over and pulled the book from Liu Ran’s hands. “Miss Liu, the Eldest Miss wants you to go to her office at the Group headquarters. Hurry and leave now.”
Liu Ran was stunned. Did I hear that right? Ming Siyu’s office?
“What am I going there for? How do I even get there…”
“The driver is already here to pick you up.” Qi Zhen helped smooth the wrinkles in Liu Ran’s clothes. After a thought, she took out the muzzle and fastened it over Liu Ran’s face. “Sorry, wear this for now. Otherwise, the driver might be scared, and it wouldn’t be good if there was an accident on the road.”
Liu Ran was pushed out the door. Having not worn the muzzle for days, it felt uncomfortable to have it back on.
With the bar in her mouth, she mumbled unclearly: “Hat, hat…”
Qi Zhen grabbed a hat, popped it on her head, and sent her to the underground garage. The driver was the same one who had brought her there on the first day. Once Liu Ran was buckled in, the driver hit the gas; the sound of tires screeching against the garage floor made her teeth ache.
Liu Ran lowered her head, hiding the lower half of her face below the window line, using only her eyes to observe the outside.
Strictly speaking, this was her first real look at the outside world in months. City A was the capital of the Empire, so prosperous it was dizzying. The skyline was redefined by eco-smart buildings, and the glass walls reflected the dense, dark clouds. There were many brand-name stores Liu Ran had never seen. Every time she emerged from isolation, she felt like a peasant entering a palace. Urban development felt gradual to most residents, but to her, it looked like a series of leaps.
The Ming Entertainment Group was located on the South Second Ring Road. It consisted of three adjacent buildings connected by unique sky-bridges. It was surrounded by other office towers and commercial malls, forming a thriving business district.
Before Liu Ran could get a clear look at the district, the car entered the underground level. Secretary Wen was waiting by the parking spot and told Liu Ran to follow her. Liu Ran carefully kept her head down, terrified that someone would notice she was wearing a muzzle.
She wanted to ask Secretary Wen why Ming Siyu had called her to the office, but because talking was difficult, she couldn’t get the words out.
However, they didn’t encounter a single other person besides Secretary Wen the entire way. Liu Ran’s tense nerves slowly began to relax.
At the end of the hallway, Secretary Wen pushed open one side of a black double door. “Miss Liu, Director Ming is waiting for you inside.”
The room was suddenly dark. Liu Ran squinted to adjust to the light, but before she could see clearly, a pair of hands reached out, gripped her shoulders, and pulled her backward.
In the darkness, Ming Siyu’s voice was hoarse and filled with urgency.
The fresh, chilled scent of her perfume was now mixed with restless gasps, like a corner of a snowy field being shoveled away to reveal the hidden mud beneath.
“Don’t move…”
