- Chapter 1 - Raising a Little Cat, Meow!
Ying Miaomiao ducked into the green belt, looking around warily. She sneezed and instinctively reached out to cover it.
But when she pulled out a cat’s paw with soft pink pads, she sighed, her ears twitching twice.
She was now a cat.
In human aesthetics, this was a very beautiful kitten. The March sun was just right, and the evening glow sprinkled onto Ying Miaomiao’s fluffy fur, seemingly plating her with a golden edge, making her look like a majestic little black lion.
She had been a cat for two days.
In Ying Miaomiao’s limited memory, two days ago she was involved in a minor car accident and passed out. When she woke up again, she had already become a cat.
There seemed to be no surveillance cameras on the stretch of road where the accident occurred, and the driver who hit her had fled. Everything related to her had disappeared at the accident scene.
Fortunately, the place where the accident occurred was not far from her home. After spending a day training her uncooperative limbs, she finally found her own neighborhood by the evening of the second day.
Meow meow meow meow!
Heaven does not want me to perish!
After finding her unit building, Ying Miaomiao climbed eight floors in one go, controlling her weak, aching limbs until she finally collapsed onto the kitten mat she had carefully chosen for herself.
She lay sprawled on the carpet, looking up at the familiar yet strange door frame, and let out another prolonged cry.
Meow meow meow meow!
Heaven wants me to perish!
Ying Miaomiao lay on the doormat and slowly closed her eyes. A sour feeling welled up in her nose. She was so silly. How could she, as a kitten, get the key to open the door and go home?
Besides, she didn’t even have a key.
Her body was truly uncomfortable. Coupled with being at her doorstep and smelling familiar scents, hunger and fatigue rushed over her. Ying Miaomiao felt as if her eyes, once closed, might never open again.
She didn’t know how long she had been lying there. As Ying Miaomiao was half-asleep, she vaguely heard the sound of the elevator door opening. Her ears twitched. In the empty corridor, the crisp tapping of high heels echoed. The person’s pace was steady and unhurried.
The sound grew closer until it stopped near Ying Miaomiao.
A pair of warm hands lifted her up.
Ying Miaomiao suddenly opened her eyes, her body instinctively tensing, wanting to break free.
“Don’t be afraid.”
Seeing her face, Ying Miaomiao stopped struggling and froze in place.
How could Shi Xinyu be here?
She held the kitten in her hands, her sharp phoenix eyes slightly curved. Ying Miaomiao could clearly see the small light-brown mole on the side of her high nose bridge.
Seeing the kitten stop struggling, she praised, “So well-behaved.”
Ying Miaomiao had a very deep impression of Shi Xinyu.
Shi Xinyu was the department head at the company where she had just started working. She graduated from a prestigious university, had excellent professional skills, and held significant influence in the company. It was even said that she was one of the company’s founders.
Towards everyone, she seemed noble and distant. With such a cold personality, her looks were as stunning as a blooming peony.
But who would like a superior like that?
Therefore, every time she saw her cold and beautiful boss, Shi Xinyu, Ying Miaomiao subconsciously avoided her.
But now—Ying Miaomiao was held in Shi Xinyu’s palm, forced to meet the gaze of her strict superior, and her entire little cat body was rigid.
“Mimi, do you have an owner?”
Ying Miaomiao’s ears twitched instinctively. Her voice was pleasant to listen to, but at this moment, it sounded like the whisper of a demon.
By the time they arrived at the pet hospital, it was already dark outside.
After a whole series of examinations, Ying Miaomiao had no energy left to struggle, lying limp like a dead fish.
Just after the examination, the doctor, afraid the kitten might have a stress reaction, also used a disposable glove to rub the kitten all over.
She lay half-sprawled on the examination table, eyes half-closed, deep in thought.
The doctor had just said the kitten was about one and a half to two months old and in good health, just a little malnourished. However, the doctor’s movements were too rough. Two thumbs down.
She was so sleepy…
…
When Ying Miaomiao woke up again, she was lying in a sky-blue, fluffy cat bed, covered by a dark grey blanket.
The blanket was warm and soft. Ying Miaomiao struggled to climb out of the warm bed and surveyed her surroundings.
A cat’s night vision was excellent, and with a small nightlight, she could see things even more clearly.
The room was large but sparsely furnished. Besides the bed and dressing table, there was only an office desk with a computer on it. The remaining large area was neatly organized with various cat supplies.
A computer!
Ying Miaomiao’s eyes lit up. She had been out of contact for two and a half days, almost three days. She had no clue how she turned into a cat, but she wanted to notify her mother that she was safe first.
However, after too much activity, her kitten limbs were sore. She awkwardly moved her four limbs, trembling as she walked towards the computer desk.
Halfway there, Ying Miaomiao suddenly noticed something wasn’t right.
According to the pet hospital doctor, she should be a young kitten now. She hadn’t noticed from afar, but now that she was close, the computer desk was quite high for her.
After estimating the distance, Ying Miaomiao decided to use the bed to jump onto the chair.
She took a few steps back, mimicking the actions of a predator in the animal world.
Light, strong, leaping.
A dull thud sounded.
Ying Miaomiao fell down.
She felt her ears flush and burn instantly, burying her head on the floor to ponder her cat life.
While she was deep in thought, a pair of hands suddenly picked her up from behind.
Meow meow meow!
What are you doing!
The owner of the hands paused their inspection and their voice became even softer: “Don’t move. Sister is checking you. You’re still little. What if you hurt yourself from the fall?”
Saying that, she continued to check the kitten thoroughly, flipping her over and over. After confirming the kitten was fine, she offered a symbolic comfort: “You’re still little, it’s normal that you can’t jump that high. Tomorrow, I’ll buy you a cat climbing tree. Then, our Miaomiao can go wherever she wants, but remember not to hurt yourself, or Sister will worry.”
Miaomiao?
Is she talking about her?
Meow?
Is this still the Shi Xinyu she knew? Where did the ‘change this proposal’ she-devil who dominated the company go?
After saying that, Shi Xinyu let out a small yawn. Ying Miaomiao then realized it was bedtime.
Looking at the faint dark circles under Shi Xinyu’s eyes, Ying Miaomiao felt a strange sense of glee mixed with guilt. Her few encounters with Shi Xinyu were all work-related, and Shi Xinyu always stayed up late because of those dreadful proposals.
But guilt ultimately took the lead.
Ying Miaomiao sat upright, extended a paw, and gently patted Shi Xinyu’s hand.
Meow meow meow.
I’m sorry, please go to sleep early.
The kitten’s meow was soft. Shi Xinyu’s lips curved slightly. She lowered her head and found Ying Miaomiao increasingly adorable the more she looked. Her slender, scallion-like fingers stroked the kitten’s soft fur, and her voice was slightly hoarse: “Miaomiao is so well-behaved.”
Saying that, she placed Ying Miaomiao next to her pillow and fell into a deep sleep.
Since she had already slept once, Ying Miaomiao was wide awake now. She sat properly next to Shi Xinyu’s pillow, using her tail to tuck in her feet, her gaze vacant.
She considered her current situation.
It had been two and a half days, nearly three days, since she turned into a cat. She usually checked in with her family once a week and had just messaged them before turning into a cat.
Ying Miaomiao sighed and slowly lay down.
The first people to notice her inexplicable disappearance should be the company. Otherwise, Shi Xinyu wouldn’t have coincidentally found her at her doorstep.
Although whether she could change back was still unknown, the current job market was tough, and she really didn’t want to lose her nine-to-five job with weekends off.
…
Hearing the alarm clock, Ying Miaomiao instinctively reached under the pillow for her phone but felt nothing.
She suddenly opened her eyes, seeing the unfamiliar ceiling. After a moment of (stunned/daze), Ying Miaomiao was still not used to this cat body.
Following instinct, she subconsciously stretched, but felt resistance and realized she was covered by the dark grey blanket she saw in the cat bed.
The texture was soft, and loosely covering her, it didn’t feel heavy. She climbed out of the blanket, extended a paw, and tried hard to smooth out the blanket.
Shi Xinyu had already washed up and changed clothes while she was fighting with the blanket. She was now sitting at the dressing table preparing to do her makeup.
Ying Miaomiao truly admired Shi Xinyu for this.
Shi Xinyu was very clean. Every time Ying Miaomiao saw her, she found her impeccably groomed. She didn’t wear strong perfume, only a light, soothing orchid scent.
However, their time together at the company was indeed limited, and Ying Miaomiao’s impression of Shi Xinyu remained at the level of someone to be admired from afar.
Before leaving, Shi Xinyu carefully added cat food and water. Ying Miaomiao cautiously played the role of a shy kitten who hadn’t gotten used to her new surroundings yet.
Only after hearing the door close did she dart to the door, pressing her ear tightly against it. After confirming that Shi Xinyu would not come back, Ying Miaomiao moved away.
She learned from yesterday’s lesson and decided to eat first; everything else could wait.
To be honest, when Ying Miaomiao was human, she had fed stray cats with her club and felt that cat food did not smell good, finding it a bit fishy. But perhaps after turning into a cat, she awakened some wild instinct; the cat food Shi Xinyu had soaked seemed to have a fatal attraction for her.
The goat milk was still warm, mixed with cat food. White mixed with other colors. Ying Miaomiao felt a little greedy.
Between starving with food available and eating cat food, she only hesitated for a moment before choosing to eat the cat food. However, she secretly vowed in her heart that she would never tell anyone that she, as a cat, was eating cat food.
No matter what mood she was in, Ying Miaomiao finished the food and water. She even licked her mouth, a little unsatisfied. The cat food soaked in goat milk was quite tasty.
Instinct took over, and by the time Ying Miaomiao reacted, she had already started licking her fur. It wasn’t until she jumped onto the bed and curled up in the blanket again that she suddenly snapped out of it.
Did she just!
Forget something!
But now that she was on the bed, Ying Miaomiao thought for a moment and decided to adapt to the situation.
One of the differences between humans and animals is that humans use tools.
She laboriously dragged the blanket to the foot of the bed, trying to stack it high. After estimating the distance, Ying Miaomiao decided to let her cat instinct take control of the jump.
After counting a few seconds in her mind, she jumped again.
Her two front paws finally hooked onto the chair. Ying Miaomiao didn’t know how to use her claws properly and could only struggle to use the strength of a pull-up to haul her body up.
Lying on the back of the chair, Ying Miaomiao breathed a sigh of relief, limp like a dead cat. After resting for a while, she still decided to open the computer in one go.
After getting onto the chair, jumping down was much easier.
This time, she landed lightly on the computer desk, a graceful little cat.
With a devout heart, Ying Miaomiao extended her little white paw and pressed the computer host’s power button.
…
Meow?
No reaction?
She stubbornly and angrily slapped the host repeatedly.
Meow meow meow!
There’s no power! How can there be no power!
Ying Miaomiao grumbled and searched the computer desk, but couldn’t find a single power switch.
Her heart was dead, she was truly going to throw a tantrum.
Oh Heavens, you really don’t treat me like your favorite grandchild!
