Chapter 8: In His Eyes, Lu Miao Is Just a Child~
Lu Miao flared up in shamed exasperation. “What do you think you’re doing?”
The man gripped her slender arm and reprimanded her in a low voice, “Don’t run around in the middle of the night.”
“What right do you have to manage me?”
Fu Shiyue’s expression remained calm. “I am your guardian now.”
As if he carried it with him at all times, he pulled that certificate from his inner jacket pocket and pressed it against Lu Miao’s forehead. “Same question—don’t make me explain it three or four times.”
Having said that, he dragged her toward the interior of the house.
The night air was cool, but the paper, having been pressed against his chest, was still warm.
Lu Miao pulled the certificate off her forehead, her gaze chilly. “You want to control me based on a single piece of paper?”
Fu Shiyue stopped in his tracks and raised an eyebrow, looking back at her.
The young girl puffed out her cheeks, glaring with round, wide eyes, appearing quite defiant.
Seeing the man remain silent, Lu Miao yanked her hand free and turned to run, but a dark shadow blocked the door faster than she could move.
“Move, I’m going out.”
The man’s body was like a wall—hard and solid. Lu Miao pushed him but couldn’t budge him. Her eyes and nose turned red, and she glared at him in frustration. “What do you actually want? I already made plans with my friends. I can’t break my word.”
Seeing her reddened nose, the man’s heart softened slightly, and he looked once more at Lu Miao’s pretty face.
Dressed up like a little butterfly—if he let her out, would she even come back? Besides, what kind of “good place” could she possibly be going to?
“Hurry up and move. At worst, I’ll come back early.”
Looking at the bristling young girl before him, Fu Shiyue leaned lazily against the door. “Take me down, and you can go. Otherwise, you’re staying home tonight.”
Those words were worse than saying nothing at all.
She had already explained the situation to him, yet he wouldn’t give her even a sliver of room for negotiation.
“You bastard!”
Lu Miao was so angry she clenched her fists. She rushed forward, trying to grab the door handle, but Fu Shiyue easily picked her up and pinned her against the wine cabinet. She tilted her head and bit down hard on his wrist.
“Tch.” Fu Shiyue looked at the girl playing foul. “You bite when you can’t win a fight?”
A man who had survived knives and bullets did not fear pain. No matter how hard she bit, his expression didn’t change. Lu Miao released her hold, leaving a neat ring of teeth marks on the man’s wrist.
He glanced at it and gave a low sneer. “Good teeth. Looks like a tattoo.”
“I’ll kill you, you bastard!” Driven to desperation, Lu Miao began to punch and kick him.
Fu Shiyue pinned her hands and scooped her up in one swift motion.
Lu Miao was dazed for a second before realizing she was draped over the man’s shoulder.
Her face instantly flushed with shame. “You… let go of me!”
Fu Shiyue ignored her shouting and carried her with large strides into the living room, tossing her onto the sofa.
Lu Miao bounced on the cushions. Just as she tried to sit up, a shadow loomed over her.
The man braced his arms on either side of her, leaning down to stare into her eyes. “Be good. I’ll be staying home to watch you tonight.”
Having said that, he pinched her cheek. When he let go, there was a bright red finger mark on her face.
Tch. She was as delicate as a peeled eggshell; he hadn’t even used much force.
Lu Miao sat up, glaring back in fury. “Get this straight: this is my house, not yours!”
The man ignored her, straightened up, and retreated to sit on the edge of the sofa.
He sat there as steady as a mountain. Whenever Lu Miao tried to run, he would easily retrieve her and toss her back onto the sofa.
Lu Miao couldn’t beat this man and was so angry she paced around the living room like a caged animal. “Let me out!”
Fu Shiyue leaned back into the sofa, leisurely took out a cigarette, and quietly watched Lu Miao throw her tantrum.
In the man’s eyes, Lu Miao was like a child who couldn’t get any candy and was causing a scene.
He’d let her cause a fuss for a bit; she’d quiet down eventually.
Finally, Lu Miao grew tired. She sat on the sofa to catch her breath, kicked off her high heels in a fit of pique, threw down her small bag, and turned to go back to her room.
Bang! She slammed the door with a thunderous sound.
Fu Shiyue stared at Lu Miao’s closed door for a moment with an unruffled gaze before looking away.
He noticed her bag left on the sofa; various small items had spilled out.
He got up, gathered the items back into the bag one by one, and hung it on the coat rack. Then he picked up the high heels she had thrown haphazardly, walked to the shoe cabinet, and placed them in neatly.
Only after finishing everything in an orderly fashion did he return to the sofa and sit down comfortably.
As soon as Lu Miao returned to her room, Wang Gege called to urge her. “Miao Miao, why aren’t you here yet? We’re all waiting for you.”
Lu Miao pressed a hand to her forehead and apologized, “I’m really sorry, I can’t make it today.”
“Can’t make it? Holy crap, what happened?” Wang Gege’s side was very noisy; judging by her shouting, she had probably drunk quite a bit.
Lu Miao didn’t know how to explain it, so she scratched her hair. “My… my uncle won’t let me go.”
“But you said earlier you were ready to head out. How can you stand us up at the last minute? Xu Jin specially prepared this singles party for you. Isn’t this wasting her kind intentions?”
“I know, and I didn’t want to break the plan. I’m truly sorry.” Lu Miao apologized repeatedly.
Wang Gege said it was fine and hung up, but Lu Miao knew they must be unhappy.
Lu Miao sat dejectedly on the bed and threw her phone aside.
Thinking about how disastrous the evening had been, she glared resentfully at the door.
That man was made of stone—cold, hard, and showing absolutely no mercy.
No wonder Lu Yan had called him to manage her; she had no leverage against him at all!
Lu Miao stewed in her room, unable to sleep even by 1:00 AM.
Was she really going to let him stay in her house and control her like this from now on?
Absolutely not.
She climbed out of bed and opened the door.
Only a single floor lamp was lit in the living room, making it dim and shadowy. Lu Miao immediately spotted the silhouette on the sofa.
The man had his back to her, leaning into the sofa. The line of his neck was straight and firm, illuminated with a golden glow by the light.
Lu Miao walked to the wet bar and coughed intentionally, but the man on the sofa didn’t react.
She poured a glass of water and walked over.
The man was sitting upright with his eyes closed, hands folded in his lap. His quiet face under the lamp light revealed a deep, chiseled contour, the usual sharpness washed away.
He could sleep while sitting up? And he was sleeping this soundly?
Lu Miao boldly leaned close to his face, staring at his stern brows and eyes, studying him carefully.
Fu Shiyue was habitually a light sleeper; after staying in the chaotic borderlands for so many years, he would normally wake up the moment he sensed danger.
And right now, to him, the greatest “danger” was this young girl in front of him.
She was leaning very close. The sweet fragrance from her post-bath skin drifted into his breath, now near, now far.
Fu Shiyue had drunk a bit much tonight, and his heart felt restless.
Ordinarily, if anyone dared to study him like this, he would have snapped their neck long ago, but he wanted to see what this audacious girl was actually planning to do.
Lu Miao rubbed her chin and studied him for a while. Looking at the man’s long, crossed legs, she narrowed her eyes mischievously. She straightened up, pretending to walk past him, and “accidentally” tripped over his knee.
She let out a feigned, panicked “Ah!” and aimed the water in her hand directly at his crotch, splashing it all over.
