Chapter 4: If She Were Any Older, She Could Be Your Sister
It would have been fine if she hadn’t mentioned it, but the moment she did, Lu Miao felt a pang of frustration. That man actually used her uncle’s money to buy breakfast. If she threw it away, she would be wasting her uncle’s money.
“Shut your mouth. If you want to eat, just take it.”
Wang Gege happened to have skipped breakfast and accepted it gratefully. “Miao Miao, you’re always so generous to others.”
Lu Miao turned her face away. “I’m not this generous to everyone.”
“Ying~ You’re so heartwarming~”
Just as the class bell rang, the counselor stood at the classroom door and roared, “Lu Miao, get out here!”
The entire class looked over, and the professor on the podium also gave the counselor a faint, lingering look.
“My apologies, Professor Xue. A student has committed an error, and I’m taking her to the office.”
The counselor nodded to the professor. Seeing Lu Miao still sitting motionless, he roared furiously, “Did you hear me? Hurry up! Don’t affect the other students’ class!”
With a harsh screech of the chair, Lu Miao grabbed her backpack and, under the astonished gazes of the crowd, walked straight out the back door.
Standing at the front door, the counselor’s face turned completely black. “Stop right there, Lu Miao! Where are you going?! Stand still!”
Having said that, he went chasing after her, shouting.
As soon as the counselor left, the class immediately erupted into a frenzy.
“What did Lu Miao do?”
“Who knows? She usually doesn’t say much and doesn’t fit in. No one pays attention to her.”
“Hmph, skipping class all day like a little delinquent. Now that the school caught her, they’re definitely going to give her trouble.” The study representative adjusted his thick glasses, looking down on such people with great disdain.
“I heard she’s always hanging out at bars. Could it be that her private life is too messy and the counselor found out…”
Suddenly, an egg hit the back of that person’s head. “Did you all eat sh*t? Why are your mouths so foul?”
“Wang Gege, we’re talking about Lu Miao. What does it have to do with you?”
“Discussing others behind their backs and still feeling righteous? Why don’t I get you a megaphone so you can go up on stage and talk?”
Everyone shut up and prepared for class.
Inside the office.
“Was it you who smashed Wang Mingcheng’s head?”
Lu Miao denied it decisively. “No.”
“You’re still quibbling! The students who know the situation said you rushed into the private room last night in a drunken stupor, grabbed Wang Mingcheng by the collar, and went on a drunken rampage.”
“I wasn’t on a rampage. I was quite sober at the time…”
The counselor roared, “Don’t interrupt me!”
Lu Miao curled her lip; he was clearly the one speaking with such heavy breaths.
“Everyone else had left, it was just you and him in the room. If it wasn’t you who smashed it, who else could it be?”
Lu Miao fell silent.
Seeing her choose selective silence, the counselor slammed the desk in anger. “I’m asking you one more time: was it you who smashed Wang Mingcheng’s head or not!”
Lu Miao stood before him without a change in expression, her face calm and puzzled. “Since you’ve already convicted me, why bother asking?”
The counselor, even if he didn’t have high blood pressure, was being provoked into having it. Seeing she refused to confess, he changed his method to pry her mouth open. “Why did you smash him?”
Looking at the counselor’s stance of interrogating a criminal, she said frankly, “First of all, I must state again: it wasn’t me who smashed him.”
She had originally wanted to smash him, but that man had beaten her to it. However, she couldn’t say that.
Lu Miao became dead serious. “I went to the bar to find him yesterday because he confessed to me last week and I agreed to be with him. But he turned around and laughed at me with a group of people, saying I was easier to pick up than a public bus. Then, he cheated.”
Lu Miao recalled for a moment. “That woman was uglier than me…”
“You’re talking farts!”
A sharp voice rang out at the office door. “My son would ever fancy a piece of goods like you?!”
Lu Miao looked over. A wealthy woman wearing a large mink coat walked in.
Wang Mingcheng was still lying in the hospital. When his mother found out her precious son had been beaten, she felt as if a piece of her heart had been gouged out. Someone actually dared to lay a hand on the Wang family’s lifeline! This was truly outrageous! She immediately contacted the counselor and stormed to the school, aggressive and seeking justice for her son.
“For our Mingcheng to find someone, she must at least be a young lady from a family of equal status. What is your identity? Are you worthy of our Wang family?” Mrs. Wang looked at Lu Miao with a look of utter contempt; when she looked at Lu Miao, her eyes were slanted.
If one didn’t know better, they would think she had some sort of eye disease.
Lu Miao had never cared about the opinions of others. Smiling, she gave the woman a light, breezy look. “Are you sure it’s not because your son’s taste in women is just as bad as your taste in clothes?”
Mrs. Wang was already plump. To show off her wealth, she wore this large mink coat, which made her look even more bloated.
“What did you say?! Dare you say that again!” Mrs. Wang was so angry she couldn’t speak, her expression hideous.
Lu Miao was not afraid; she was even quite candid. “I’m not wrong. The woman Wang Mingcheng cheated with is over ten years older than him, a hostess. If she were any older, she could be your sister.”
Mrs. Wang’s face turned green with rage; she wanted nothing more than to step forward and slap her twice.
“I won’t waste words with you. You injured my son, so you must apologize. Secondly, you maliciously damaged my son’s reputation. I want you to apologize to him in front of all the teachers and students. As for the medical fees and compensation, we’ll calculate those separately!”
“Otherwise, I will sue you in court, and the school will not keep a student with such atrocious behavior!”
The implication was that she wanted Lu Miao detained and expelled.
Lu Miao’s expression went cold. “I said, I didn’t smash your son. If you don’t believe me, go check the surveillance.”
“The bar surveillance has been cleared! That was all your doing, wasn’t it!”
Lu Miao curled her lips. That man had done a very thorough job; she had thought he was fearless.
Mrs. Wang gave a contemptuous snort. “Mingcheng told me everything. It was you, this crazy woman, who pestered him relentlessly. He didn’t want to deal with you, so you got frustrated and injured him!”
Wang Mingcheng actually dared to say that?
Last night, Wang Mingcheng had been scared out of his wits in the private room. After being sent to the hospital and seeing his mother, his eyes became watery, and he insisted Lu Miao was the one who hit him, begging his mother not to let her go.
“If it wasn’t you, then who? Could it be that you have an accomplice?”
At this question, Lu Miao remained completely silent.
Mrs. Wang poked her shoulder with a finger. “Ah, speak! Who smashed him?!”
“I did.”
Amidst the clash of anger, a cold, heavy voice suddenly rang out.
The air went dead silent for a second.
Everyone in the office looked toward the door.
Lu Miao’s eyelid twitched. Why was he here?
The man walked in, and the air seemed to become cramped.
He walked straight to Lu Miao, grabbed her arm, and pulled her behind him. His gaze swept over her quickly, checking to see if she had been bullied.
“Why did you smash my son… Oh—I see.”
Mrs. Wang gave a grotesque laugh, studying him mockingly. “What are you to her? The lover who keeps her on the side?”
Fu Shiyue raised his pitch-black pupils and gave her a cold look. “Do I need to teach you how to speak?”
Mrs. Wang was cowed; the man’s gaze was too terrifying.
But as the Madam of the Wang family, being suppressed by a young man was simply unacceptable. She refused to show weakness. “Beating someone and still being this arrogant. Do you know our Wang family…”
“What kind of thing is the Wang family?” Fu Shiyue interrupted with disdain.
