Back to My Human’s Teenage Years - Chapter 5
During the night, Shi Rang leaned lazily against the headboard of his bed.
The phone screen on his pillow had gone completely dark, but the sound of breathing was clearly audible from within.
Damn it. He had agreed to stay on the line while they slept, but he hadn’t told the boy to keep the phone that close. Was he literally sleeping with his head on the phone?!
Shi Rang’s expression was cold as he tapped the volume up another notch, only for the system to notify him that it was already at the maximum level.
Realizing what he was doing, Shi Rang’s face soured. He must be losing his mind, staying on a call like this with a new classmate he’d only known for a single day.
He pressed a hand to his temple, pulled back the covers, and lay down.
Sleep! Stop thinking about irrelevant people!
However, only a few minutes after he lay down, a voice drifted through the phone. “Shi Rang… hug…”
Shi Rang’s eyes snapped open.
His pupils dilated instantly like a startled cat.
He—he—he… what did he just say?!!
What ‘hug’?! Is this spoiled brat never going to end?!!
Shi Rang gritted his teeth and bolted upright. Wearing a grim expression, he stared deathly at the phone.
He truly wanted to shout into the speaker and wake Jin Manman up with a cold reprimand.
But as the words reached his lips, he swallowed them back down.
Forget it. If I wake him up, he’ll probably just cry again.
Tomorrow! When I go to school tomorrow, I will definitely give him a proper warning!!
As a result, Shi Rang stared at his phone and barely slept the entire night. Unfortunately, no other sounds came from the other end until dawn.
Jin Manman arrived at school very clearly late.
Because they had been on the phone all night, his phone had run out of battery and shut down automatically. He hadn’t heard his morning alarms at all. By the time he scrambled to get ready and reached the classroom, morning self-study had already begun.
Fortunately, the teacher saw that he was a newly transferred student and didn’t say much, simply nodding to let him in.
Jin Manman let out a sigh of relief and quickly sat at his desk with his bag. The seat next to him was empty; Shi Rang hadn’t arrived yet.
Could it be that he didn’t get up either?
Jin Manman endured it for a short while but eventually couldn’t resist. He poked Chen Qian in front of him and whispered secretly, “Where did Shi Rang go?”
Chen Qian let out a yawn and said nonchalantly, “Shi-ge doesn’t come for morning self-study. Haven’t you noticed the teachers don’t even care? Everyone’s used to it.”
Jin Manman frowned, wanting to ask more, but the teacher’s sharp gaze was already sweeping in their direction. He had no choice but to let go and obediently bury his head in his books.
He had only been human for a few days, but the fear of teachers was already ingrained in his very marrow.
Fortunately, not long after morning study ended, Shi Rang walked in with his bag.
He looked a bit tired today. His hair was unstyled, with a few strands hanging over his forehead, partially obscuring his eyes. His expression seemed a bit cold.
Shi Rang walked to the desk, glanced at the boy, and then quickly averted his eyes. Without saying a word, he sat down in silence.
Just because he didn’t speak didn’t mean Jin Manman could hold back.
The boy quickly leaned over, squeezing his small head in front of Shi Rang. He blinked his eyes and asked, “What’s wrong? You look so pale. Did you not sleep well last night?”
Shi Rang’s face grew even colder.
He! He dares to say it!!!
Shi Rang gritted his teeth. “What do you think? What kind of nonsense were you talking last night?”
Jin Manman asked blankly, “What did I say?”
He had been talking in his sleep of course he didn’t remember.
Shi Rang felt a sense of stifled frustration with nowhere to vent.
He could only ask coldly, “What were you dreaming about last night?”
The boy looked completely innocent. “I wasn’t dreaming. I slept very well last night.”
Ever since Shi Rang suddenly stopped coming home, followed by the discovery that something had happened to him, and then the transmigration, Jin Manman hadn’t had a single good night’s sleep.
Yesterday, he finally saw Shi Rang and even got to stay on the phone with him while sleeping. Jin Manman couldn’t have been more satisfied. He had slept soundly, as if he were back in the villa when Shi Rang used to hold him to sleep.
Shi Rang’s gaze fell on the boy’s face, taking in his wide, innocent eyes and his golden hair, which seemed to glow where the sunlight hit it.
Fine, if you don’t want to admit it.
Shi Rang let out a cold snort. “Don’t even think about calling me tonight.”
Jin Manman gave a soft “Oh.”
Because morning self-study started so early, many students bought bread and milk to eat during the break afterward.
Jin Manman hadn’t had time to buy food. Seeing others eat, his gaze was easily drawn toward them.
Shi Rang followed his gaze, frowned, and suddenly stood up to walk out.
Chen Qian thought he was heading to the toilet for a smoke and quickly said, “Wait for me—”
But Shi Rang didn’t stop and quickly disappeared out the door.
Chen Qian scratched his head. “Where is he going?”
Shi Rang didn’t return until just before class started. He was carrying a large bag filled with bread, milk, biscuits, and various snacks.
Jin Manman’s eyes went wide. He licked his lips. “Shi Rang, you didn’t eat breakfast either?”
Shi Rang gave a cold “Mhm,” casually grabbed a piece of bread, tore open the wrapper, and started eating.
Jin Manman lay on the desk, watching expectantly.
There were still three more classes until noon. He’d just have to endure it. He wondered if he’d be able to eat lunch with Shi Rang again today.
A few seconds later, Shi Rang pushed the entire bag toward him and said flatly, “I can’t finish this.”
Jin Manman sat bolt upright instantly, looking delighted. “Is it for me?”
Shi Rang nodded and said nonchalantly, “Help me deal with it.”
Yes, yes, yes. The little orange cat chose to “deal” with all of it by putting it into his own tummy.
The class bell rang. Jin Manman quickly tore open a carton of milk and gulped down half. He didn’t forget to stick out his small tongue to skillfully lick the milk residue from the corner of his mouth.
Shi Rang propped his head on his hand, his gaze lingering on the boy beside him, pausing for a few seconds at his lips.
Chen Qian had been watching for a while and finally couldn’t resist. “Shi-ge, why are you staring at him?”
Shi Rang snapped back to his senses and looked at Chen Qian with a cold face. “Was I staring?”
“You were! You kept staring at him; your eyes were practically glued to his body.”
“I wasn’t looking,” Shi Rang said icily. “You’re just blind.”
Chen Qian: “???”
The first period was Mathematics.
Jin Manman still couldn’t understand why a math class involved so many English letters. Since he didn’t recognize any of them, he decided to bury his head and eat in secret.
He was a very clever little orange cat.
Before sneaking a bite, he would tear the bread into tiny pieces. This way, he could eat one piece at a time without making large movements.
While the teacher was turned around writing on the blackboard, the boy quickly stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth and chewed with puffed-out cheeks.
He always looked so serious when he ate. Shi Rang had noticed this back in the canteen; although the boy didn’t eat much, he always approached food with a sense of piety and focus.
Shi Rang watched him for several minutes, then narrowed his eyes and deliberately let out a few soft coughs.
Sure enough, Jin Manman was startled. He snapped his head up, forgetting to chew, his cheeks still puffed out.
Shi Rang couldn’t help himself; a low chuckle escaped him.
Only then did Jin Manman discover the culprit. He looked at the Shi Rang beside him but wasn’t angry. Instead, he blinked and his eyes curved as he gave Shi Rang a small smile.
Over the two days since he transmigrated, Shi Rang had always been icy. Today, he finally laughed.
Meeting the boy’s smiling face, Shi Rang’s heart seemed to skip a beat. He froze for two seconds before asking stiffly, “What are you laughing at?”
Jin Manman blinked. “You laughed first.”
Shi Rang replied indifferently, “I didn’t laugh.”
