- Chapter 2 - The New Student – Let Me Go to the Bathroom with You!
“Did you remember everything I told you?”
In the school hallway, the Dean spoke with a grave expression. He glanced around cautiously and lowered his voice. “Especially the part about not letting anyone know your true identity.”
Jin Manman nodded vigorously.
“Study hard,” the Dean said, patting his shoulder with satisfaction. “Our ‘Cat Superheroes’ need talents like you.”
Most cats who turned into humans were generally unwilling to study; those who proactively asked to attend school were few and far between.
The Dean was a Maine Coon tall, large and naturally fierce looking. Surprisingly, however, he was quite meticulous. Not only had he completed all of Manman’s paperwork, but he had also applied for a dormitory spot for him, fearing the boy would have nowhere to stay.
As he led Jin Manman toward the classroom, he asked casually, “Where did you live before? Were you a stray?”
The boy shook his head. “I had a master.”
“Then—”
“Sir, I’m here.”
Standing at the classroom door, Jin Manman offered a small smile. “Thank you. I’ll head inside now.”
“Oh, oh, alright then.”
The bell hadn’t rung yet, and the classroom was a chaotic mess.
Teacher Zhang walked in and rapped his knuckles on the podium. “Quiet down, everyone. We have a new student joining us today. Let’s give him a warm welcome.”
To a chorus of perfunctory applause, the boy walked in with his backpack. Because everything had happened so fast, the Dean had found him a temporary uniform. It was at least one size too big, hanging loosely on Manman’s frame and making him look even more delicate. His face was barely the size of a palm, and with his wide, round eyes, he looked like a porcelain doll.
The classroom immediately erupted into a stir.
“Oh my god, his hair is golden!”
“Help, he’s so cute!”
The boy didn’t say a word. From the moment he stepped inside, his gaze was fixed intently on a seat in the very last row.
“Quiet!” Teacher Zhang coughed, patting the boy’s arm. “Come on, introduce yourself.”
The boy paused, withdrew his gaze, and turned to write his name on the blackboard.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Jin Manman.”
After that brief, succinct introduction, the new student shouldered his bag and marched straight to the back row. Under the stunned gazes of the class, he pulled out a chair and sat down right next to the school’s “overlord.”
Yes, the school bully.
There wasn’t a soul in the school who hadn’t heard the name Shi Rang. He was ruthless in a fight and had a cold personality. Rumor had it he had once broken several ribs of a delinquent who came to provoke him, but because his family was wealthy and powerful, the matter was quickly settled.
In short, no one dared to cross Shi Rang.
Because of this reputation, even though they were already in their second year of high school, the seat next to Shi Rang had remained empty.
Having pulled an all-nighter gaming, Shi Rang was currently face-down on his desk catching up on sleep. The sound of the chair being pulled out beside him jolted him awake. Irritated, Shi Rang lifted his head, his cold eyes narrowing at the person who clearly had a death wish.
He was just about to snap when he saw the boy next to him looking back with wide eyes. The boy pressed his lips together and smiled, revealing two dimples. “Can I sit here?”
Shi Rang’s words got stuck in his throat.
Damn!
What kind of cute little spirit is this?
He stared at the boy coldly for a few seconds, said nothing, and turned his head back to the desk, pulling his school jacket over his head to cover his face.
Manman hugged his backpack and quietly scooted a little closer.
It was Shi Rang.
A living, breathing, real-life Shi Rang.
He had finally—finally seen him.
Contrary to the Dean’s hopes, Jin Manman had zero interest in studying. His heart and eyes were entirely occupied by Shi Rang. He mimicked Shi Rang’s posture, leaning his head on the desk and facing toward him.
Patience was a difficult virtue.
If he hadn’t been warned repeatedly, he wouldn’t have been able to hold back. The moment he saw Shi Rang; he wanted to turn into a cat, leap into his arms, and have Shi Rang hold him and kiss him.
Shi Rang felt like someone was staring at him.
He wasn’t actually asleep. After a few minutes, he lifted his jacket and glanced sideways. He saw the new student lying there just like him, his soft, white cheek slightly squished against the desk. The moment their eyes met, the boy’s eyelashes fluttered, and he looked incredibly joyful.
“You’re awake,” Manman whispered. “Hello, Shi Rang. My name is Jin Manman.”
Shi Rang frowned and sat up. “How do you know my name?”
The boy pointed to the textbook on Shi Rang’s desk and smiled with crescent-moon eyes. “I know how to write your name.”
Crazy…
Shi Rang casually tossed the textbook into his desk drawer and turned his back to him to sleep.
The boy pouted slightly.
But this was okay too; he could still see the back of Shi Rang’s head.
Wow, the back of Shi Rang’s head is just as round as it used to be.
He spent the entire period staring at the boy. It wasn’t until the bell rang that Shi Rang stood up lazily and sauntered out of the classroom.
Manman instinctively stood up to follow him.
However, he was a step too late. The surrounding students quickly swarmed him, chirping away with questions.
“Why is your hair that color? Isn’t dyeing hair banned in school?”
“Oh my god, you’re so pale! Do you use sunscreen every day?”
Jin Manman knew that he had to reply when people spoke to him, otherwise it would be impolite. He sat obediently in his seat and answered seriously.
“My hair is natural. My skin is, too.”
“Are you mixed?”
The boy shook his head. “No. It’s just that my breed is like this.”
The students: “…” Breed?
Someone was about to ask more, but they suddenly saw Shi Rang returning. Everyone clamped their mouths shut and scattered like a flock of startled birds.
Shi Rang hated people crowding around him. If Manman hadn’t moved in today, the area around his desk would usually be a “no-man’s land.”
Seeing Shi Rang return, Jin Manman was delighted and couldn’t help leaning in. “Shi Rang, where did you go?”
The boy wasn’t just cute in appearance; his voice was soft and sweet, like a glutinous rice ball rolled in powdered sugar.
A perfectly normal sentence ended up sounding like he was acting spoiled.
Shi Rang replied coldly, “To the bathroom.”
The moment the words left his mouth, he regretted it.
Damn it!
Why did I answer him? I should have just ignored him and given him the cold shoulder!
To his surprise, Jin Manman’s eyes widened in genuine shock. “How could you go to the bathroom alone?”
That’s too dangerous!!
How could Shi Rang do something so risky?!
Back at home, every time Shi Rang went to the bathroom, Manman would follow him closely and stand guard at the door to ensure his safety!!
In a cat’s mind, humans were simply not supposed to go to the bathroom alone.
Shi Rang was stunned for a rare moment, then he let out a frustrated, dry laugh. He quirked an eyebrow. “Otherwise? Do I need to file a report with you before I pee?”
“Can you?” Manman’s eyes lit up.
Shi Rang felt like the world had become a surreal hallucination.
Otherwise, why would this new student, who had been here for barely an hour, be pressing his hands together in a pleading gesture, acting spoiled with those round, innocent eyes?
“Please, Shi Rang. I’m begging you. Next time, let me go to the bathroom with you!”
What a way to start a friendship! Manman is definitely bringing his “cat logic” into the human world.
