Apocalyptic Island - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
She smeared the mucus from her hand onto the bed, while showing an awkward smile.
Wen Yishu swore that she would keep her eyes open even when she died and would not close them when washing her hair.
She now knew why the helmet kept broadcasting a danger notification. The danger had never been far from her; it had always been by her side.
The people in the central lounge were probably also deceived by the monster that could transform into a human.
Before it took out the fish scale, Wen Yishu had never doubted its identity.
Who would have thought that a trusted person would turn into a monster? It was also her fault for not being cautious enough and not trusting the AI’s warning.
The figure of Bai Mi in front of her gradually blurred. Her two hands that were exposed outside the vest gradually turned into fins.
The helmet fell to the ground with a clang. Her mouth became bigger and bigger. She said, opening and closing it: “What’s wrong? You seem very scared?”
The smile on Wen Yishu’s face was almost impossible to maintain.
“Haha, why wouldn’t a vicious merman scare me to death…”
As soon as she finished speaking, the completely deformed fish head opened its mouth, which could swallow a human head, and rushed toward Wen Yishu.
The smell of sea-salted fish head was not pleasant. The moment it rushed over, Wen Yishu grabbed the edge of the top bunk with one hand and the iron handrail with the other. She pushed off with her feet and quickly climbed onto the top bunk.
This set of movements had been practiced countless times in her mind. The moment she did it, it was extremely exhilarating. Her heart couldn’t help but beat wildly, and her mind became incredibly clear.
The other party didn’t even touch her clothes.
She used her other leg, the one she hadn’t used to kick the monster yesterday, to kick the entire monster into the bed.
The touch under her foot was like a piece of sticky, melted jelly, which was so disgusting that Wen Yishu wanted to take off her shoes.
She nimbly jumped down from the top bunk. The merman’s mouth on the bed was stuck to the wall like a plunger.
Its wriggling fins were too short to reach the gap in the wall.
Its body was still in a human form. The transformation speed was not that fast. After Wen Yishu took a look, she picked up the helmet and chip on the ground without hesitation.
The quality of the helmet was very good. She put the chip back in and then slammed the lid shut.
The damage this kind of monster could inflict was limited, but it would be a different story after it was fully transformed.
Wen Yishu didn’t want to fight. She unlocked the door and rushed out. Aix’s voice sounded in her ear again: “Danger alert, danger alert!”
She had never felt that a repetitive phrase was so wonderful. She pressed the microphone and said: “Where is the team leader?”
“Unable to locate. Signal interrupted.” She didn’t know if the chip was broken from the fall or if there was magnetic interference below.
Wen Yishu wondered why Aix didn’t give a warning at the beginning. She didn’t know what the warning range of the helmet was.
But after she ran a distance, she couldn’t hear Aix’s warning sound anymore.
She looked back and then stared blankly at the identical rooms around her, feeling a little dumbfounded.
Who designed this place? Why would Rhine make such a big mistake and not even have a corridor sign?
Or was this place just for show, and the designer never thought that employees would actually be trapped here for so long?
Wen Yishu could only look at the numbers on the doors one by one. The voltage below was not very stable. By the time the motion sensor lights turned on, she had already run far away.
It was difficult to find the others by just walking. Wen Yishu found a corner, squatted down, and adjusted her quantum computer’s brightness to the lowest level.
While looking around, she typed to Bai Mi and the others.
Wen Yishu: “I ran away. It was actually a monster with a fish head. Where are you? Are you okay?”
The people who were still in their original spots saw Wen Yishu’s reply and immediately gathered together.
Huo Xiaoguan felt like she was about to be scared to death. She kept holding Ling Shuang’s hand.
She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Wen Yishu’s message. Just as she was about to reply, the team leader sent a message first.
Bai Mi: “Where are you? Stay where you are. We’ll find you.”
Wen Yishu: “No. I can’t stay where I am. What if it catches up to me?”
Ling Shuang suggested: “Why don’t we turn on our location sharing? Let’s walk together. That way, it’s not easy for it to catch up.”
The four of them immediately agreed. Wen Yishu stood up, her legs aching.
Looking at the tiny light spots on the map, she was grateful for the first time that she hadn’t taken off her quantum computer.
Although there was no privacy, it could save her life at a critical moment.
The two-person location sharing function also required open access. It could only be activated if both people agreed.
This was the same as the previous mobile phone location sharing, but the quantum computer’s signal was stronger and the internet speed was faster.
Wen Yishu had almost run to the edge of the apartment. Next to her was a wall with no exit.
The partitions in the middle would only show up where she had walked. The map below was actually blank.
Wen Yishu couldn’t help but sigh again. A large company like Rhine would also have such careless projects.
It might be because there were so few people living here, and it only came once every few years, so the management was not strict, and it was not accepted.
The flashlight shone on one room after another. Her unease grew stronger and stronger.
You Ning still hadn’t messaged her. Had something happened to her?
She forced herself not to think in a bad direction, but her thoughts were wild. The more she tried to control them, the further they drifted.
The two light spots were getting closer and closer. Wen Yishu walked around a few hallways and gradually smelled some unpleasant odors.
It seemed that she was getting closer and closer to the central lounge. The chip in the helmet was not making good contact. Aix’s voice in Wen Yishu’s ear was intermittent.
After a while, it was forced to go into sleep mode. The empty corridor was left with only her soft footsteps.
Wen Yishu felt herself getting nervous again. She was not used to this much silence, and her palms were sweating from anxiety.
The numbers on the doors were getting smaller and smaller. In some places, there were even faint bloody footprints.
Someone had run out of the central lounge and went back to their room, getting blood on themselves.
Wen Yishu walked carefully, watching the light spots on her quantum computer move toward her.
Twenty meters.
Ten meters.
After turning one more corner, she would meet up with her teammates. But Wen Yishu became even more cautious.
She stood still. After what had just happened, she decided to wait for them to come and see what they were like first. This would prevent her from running into something and having no room to escape.
The light spots moved slowly. It seemed that the people on the other side had the same concerns.
She leaned against the wall, her heart in her throat. Suddenly, a pair of hands appeared in the darkness behind her.
Wen Yishu sensed that something was wrong. Just as she was about to turn around, those hands covered her mouth and pulled her into the room behind her.
Before Wen Yishu could make a sound, the door in front of her closed.
Her flashlight was also covered by a piece of clothing, and the entire room went completely dark.
Wen Yishu struggled violently. A small piece in front of her suddenly lit up.
The light from outside came in through the one-way protective film on the door.
She stopped struggling and saw You Ning put a finger to her lips to make a shushing gesture and pointed at the small window.
Three people happened to walk by outside: Bai Mi, Huo Xiaoguan, and a slimy, unrecognizable fish head.
