All Beings Will Save Me [Mythology Crossover] - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
Zhang Guifang had hung up a “Shield of Immunity” from battle ever since that day. Presumably, until his body was properly healed—specifically, until the bridge of his nose, which had been smashed by Jiang Ganqing’s brick, was mended—that shield would not be taken down.
For a time, the two armies fell into a brief period of peace.
On the second day after confirming that Zhang Guifang likely had no intention of acting, Jiang Ziya hurriedly departed from Xiqi. It was said he had urgent matters to attend to, intending to plan and prepare for the subsequent battles against Zhang Guifang.
As a result, the atmosphere in the army became more relaxed than ever before.
Huang Tianxiang was, after all, still just a child. Even though he had encountered massive upheavals at a very young age, fleeing his homeland with his father and brothers and achieving repeated merits on the battlefield, his actual age was not that great.
In the past, he didn’t even have anyone to talk to in this military camp. Aside from practicing his martial arts half-heartedly on the drill grounds, there was absolutely nothing else for him to do. But now, everything was different. Because Nezha someone of a similar age—was there, Huang Tianxiang suddenly felt his life was filled with many different kinds of joy.
Consequently, he held twelve parts of enthusiasm for Jiang Ganqing’s presence. He was practically like a large golden retriever with nowhere to vent its energy, circling Jiang Ganqing’s legs three times to the left and three times to the right, never tiring of it.
“Nezha!” On this day, Huang Tianxiang arrived at Jiang Ganqing’s tent with practiced ease, his movements so natural it was as if this were his own tent. “Are you busy today? If there’s no schedule, shall we go into the city?”
Jiang Ganqing, who had been feeding the rabbit, tilted his head and looked over. “Into the city?”
“Yes, yes!” Huang Tianxiang gestured excitedly. “The Prime Minister has been away for several days and won’t be back anytime soon, and we won’t be fighting the Shang army for now. Since there’s nothing to do, why don’t I take you for a tour of Xiqi City?”
“Speaking of which, you haven’t been to Xiqi City yet, have you?”
Jiang Ganqing had indeed never seen it.
He thought about it and felt Huang Tianxiang’s suggestion was good. He picked up the rabbit and walked toward Huang Tianxiang at the tent entrance. “True, I haven’t been there.”
Zhaoge was in the center of the continent, Chentang Pass was north of Zhaoge near the East Sea, and Xiqi was to the west of Zhaoge, right in the heart of the Central Plains.
Completely different geographical environments naturally created completely different cultures. For instance, the food, clothing, climate, and even living habits in Xiqi were all different from what Jiang Ganqing was familiar with in Chentang Pass.
Hearing this, Huang Tianxiang immediately patted his chest and guaranteed: “Leave it to me! I know Xiqi City best!”
They left the tent amidst a flurry of activity.
It wasn’t wartime, so the atmosphere in the camp wasn’t as tense as the previous days when it felt like a tightly wound string.
Seeing these two “tiny” commanders, the soldiers and other generals smiled and greeted them.
“General Huang, heading back to the city to play?”
“Is General Nezha going too? A guest from afar is a guest indeed; General Huang, you must look after him!”
Huang Tianxiang responded to everyone, appearing very familiar with each person.
They walked out of the camp, and Huang Tianxiang led a horse over. Seeing Jiang Ganqing empty-handed, he couldn’t help but be surprised. “Aren’t you going to get a horse?”
“I don’t know how to ride.”
After all, he truly didn’t seem to have any need for a horse.
When the rabbit in Jiang Ganqing’s arms saw the horse approaching, seemingly wanting to sniff Jiang Ganqing, it suddenly emitted a fierce “coo-coo” sound. It even bared its teeth from its three-part snout, as if threatening the horse.
The horse was startled. Though it was far larger than a human, it didn’t dare to confront a rabbit the size of a palm. Coincidentally, because Huang Tianxiang had leaned in to speak with Jiang Ganqing, he wasn’t holding the reins. The horse actually snorted and bolted away like it had wings.
“Wait—Hey?!”
Huang Tianxiang was dumbfounded, almost beginning to doubt his very life.
From the Zhou camp, where onlookers had watched the scene from afar, came sounds of good-natured laughter.
However, this truly placed a significant amount of psychological pressure on Huang Tianxiang. At the very least, the thin-skinned youth refused to go back to the Zhou camp to get another horse.
This was too embarrassing… what on earth was wrong with that horse!
While Huang Tianxiang was full of chagrin, Jiang Ganqing’s brow gave a violent twitch.
Slowly, very slowly, he lifted the rabbit—which had been comfortably nestled in his arms being petted—by the scruff of its neck and held it up to his eyes, giving it a shake.
“Your doing?” he asked.
The rabbit looked at him with innocent eyes.
Alright, it was this rabbit. Jiang Ganqing had his answer.
He let out a long sigh and looked at Huang Tianxiang, feeling a rare bit of guilt in his heart.
Suddenly, Huang Tianxiang found a hand extended before him.
To be fair, that hand really didn’t look like the hand of someone who gripped a spear. The knuckles were well-defined, and the skin was white and delicate. Huang Tianxiang felt it could actually be compared to his aunt, who had entered the palace as a noble consort.
He remembered hearing his father say that Nezha was a lotus root incarnation.
So he grows up to be as white and tender as a lotus root too?
“What are you standing there in a daze for?” Seeing him not move for a long time, Jiang Ganqing chided him. “Grab my hand.”
“Oh… Oh!” Huang Tianxiang snapped back to reality, not daring to tell him what he had just been thinking. He followed the order sheepishly. “What are we doing?”
In the next second, a cry of surprise escaped Huang Tianxiang’s mouth.
He was flying.
It wasn’t a scene that only appeared in dreams, but a reality. Being held by the arm by Jiang Ganqing, he was truly flying in the sky. The ground was so far beneath his feet that everything on it had become black dots the size of sesame seeds.
Everything he could see was incredibly vast, a landscape Huang Tianxiang had never imagined before. This was Huang Tianxiang’s first time flying, and the experience was clearly incredibly wonderful to him.
“Alright, alright, give me some directions first.” Jiang Ganqing struggled to hold down the hooting and shouting Huang Tianxiang. “Which way is Xiqi City?”
Huang Tianxiang pointed out the general direction.
But the further they flew in that direction, the more Jiang Ganqing felt something was wrong.
“Are you sure it’s this way?” he asked skeptically.
Huang Tianxiang immediately struggled like a shrimp tossed into a frying pan. “Of course I’m sure! My sense of direction is excellent; I wouldn’t recognize the road wrong!”
“I see…” Jiang Ganqing nodded thoughtfully. “Then let me ask a different way. The Prime Minister and the King have been stationed in the camp for a long time; roughly how long has it been since they returned to the city?”
Huang Tianxiang counted on his fingers. “Over a hundred days.”
“A hundred days, huh.” Jiang Ganqing sighed with an unidentifiable meaning.
And Xiqi City—emanating black currents of air that were invisible to ordinary people, signifying evil and misfortune—was now clearly and completely reflected in the depths of his eyes.
