After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 7
Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow Meow. Meow.
“Meow meow meow!” Anyone could find out, but he absolutely could not let Lu Xiao Chuan discover that he had turned into a cat!
Song Xingyou’s brain worked at high speed. He frantically buried his head into the man’s shoulder nook to interrupt his dangerous thoughts, his tail-tip fawningly snaking into the man’s collar like a small hook, swaying back and forth.
“Meow-uuu!”
The kitten softened its voice, letting out a sweet sound like melting ice cream, dripping with honeyed charm.
Yet, beneath that sweetness, there was a hidden, resentful grinding of teeth.
Once I’m human again, I’m definitely biting him to death!
The little calico stood on its tiptoes. As if fully aware of its own cuteness, it performed a “catwalk” across the man’s broad shoulders, eventually flopping down like a sweet tricolor scarf.
Its soft, furry arms draped over the man’s shoulder. Pretending to just be stretching, it unceremoniously pushed the man’s phone away, blocking his view and playfully blinking its golden-flecked cat eyes.
No-no-no, don’t go! I’ll let you pet me, okay?
The little calico waved its “mangosteen” paws in the air like it was giving a New Year’s greeting, its cute, ignorant face flowing with innocent charm.
Song the Cat was pulling out all the stops. Right at that moment, an incoming call completely obscured the ticket booking interface.
A call with a foreign area code interrupted Lu Jingchuan’s blissful plan to buy a flight to see Xing-xing. The smell of disinfectant lingered in the pet hospital. He stood quietly, thought for a moment, and then walked quickly toward the end of the hallway, carrying the newly rescued calico, You-you, with him.
“This is Lu Jingchuan. Please speak.”
The man casually adjusted the cat higher on his shoulder. Song Xingyou climbed up nimbly. Knowing the man wouldn’t consider leaving anymore, he couldn’t help but stand on his paws and wear a smug “as expected of me” expression.
He perked up his stubborn pointed ears like radar. His ears twitched as he pressed them against the back of the phone, eavesdropping in true “cat-sneaky” fashion.
His fine, soft fur brushed against the back of the man’s hand. His small, beautiful cat face actually looked serious and focused, as if he understood the conversation; though a closer look revealed eyes full of confusion.
Anxious words poured out from the receiver, sounding extremely urgent. The man uttered a few “mhm’s” while his palm stroked the kitten’s back.
“The issue appeared after the new engine compilation? Have the parameters in the test environment been synchronized?”
He listened intently, speaking only at critical moments. His tone was professional and calm, devoid of redundant emotion, like a high-efficiency diagnostic machine.
“Alright, I understand.” “Please bundle the issues and email them to me.”
As the man finished speaking, the person on the other end sped up due to the emergency. Lu Jingchuan’s gaze briefly returned to the cat.
With only a tiny pause, Lu Jingchuan said coldly, “If it can’t run without me, there’s no reason for its existence, sir.”
“Meow?” The sudden silence from the hung-up phone made Song the Cat’s ears droop. He leaned toward the phone in confusion, still pretending to listen.
The man withdrew his hand and, like flipping a pancake, turned the curious kitten belly-up in his arms. He gave the cat a little bounce. The kitten “meowed” and flailed its limbs, twisting its head in annoyance and biting down on the back of his hand with a highly flexible, weird posture.
I’ll bite you to death!
Song the Cat bit down fiercely and wouldn’t let go. His upturned paws delivered several “rabbit kicks” to Lu Jingchuan’s arm, his voice letting out an unhappy, sticky grumble.
Annoying Lu Jingchuan!
The kitten’s eyes scanned the man, instantly counting exactly how many things he hated about Lu Jingchuan.
He hated the always-conservative black sweaters, he hated the dead-serious and rigorous personality, he hated the perpetually busy schedule.
Hate, hate, hate!
Song the Cat wore a “grumpy cat” face and kicked hard toward Lu Jingchuan’s face.
Rat-bastard, he’s not flying back out of the country again, is he?
Then he’d have to be a stray, digging up mouse holes and fighting fierce cats!
Song Xingyou’s ears folded, and he swung his tail unhappily. The tail that had been wrapped around the man’s wrist sneakily pulled away, and even his upturned whiskers went soft and droopy.
“I’ll take you to buy some things.”
Amidst the cat’s unhappiness, Lu Jingchuan used his fingertips to stroke the kitten’s head with a steady, rhythmic pace, providing a predictable tactile comfort.
He had clearly received an emergency work call, yet he unhurriedly led the kitten through the pet hospital’s retail section. The pet supplies there were extremely comprehensive; and, of course, not cheap.
For Lu Jingchuan, who insisted on checking ingredient labels when buying things, price was not an issue.
Song Xingyou lifted his head in a daze, his kitten head tilting left and right in confusion, looking at the man with a picky, scrutinizing gaze.
Huh? Shouldn’t this guy abandon the cat and run off to dedicate all his time to work?
His pointed ears brushed against the man’s chin, causing a fine itch. As if sensing the confusion in the kitten’s head, Lu Jingchuan gently scratched its furry chin.
“Now is time for You-you.”
Lu Jingchuan raised his hand, revealing a beautiful, sophisticated mechanical watch on his wrist, the minute hand ticking away.
He looked down, meeting those brilliant amber-gold eyes that had lost their blue film. “We have one hour.”
Song Xingyou: !
The “Cat Sheriff” had been brought to the hospital stark naked; when he left, he was wearing a majestic little police outfit and a handsome little hat. Standing tall on the man’s shoulder, his posture was straight and dashing; he looked incredibly imposing.
He stood proudly as the cold wind ruffled his soft fur. He looked like a beautiful “Officer Marshmallow,” with only the dark ink-stains on the edges of his ears stubbornly showing his cool, sheriff-like pride.
Meanwhile, his “mode of transport,” Lu Jingchuan, was dressed simply. His minimalist, cold German-style attire couldn’t hide his thin, detached aura. Standing in the wind with a sharp profile and deep brow, the man and his cat drew countless eyes.
Lu Jingchuan opened the door of the Maybach. Song the Cat jumped easily into the passenger seat. The back seat and trunk were filled with cat supplies; one can even stubbornly hopped through a gap and landed on the driver’s seat.
Song Xingyou kicked it away, stomped his hind legs, and burrowed into the seatbelt. He meowed and flicked his tail, a hint of craftiness in his cat eyes.
The salmon can was kicked to the man’s leg, only for the man to open it and offer it to the cat’s mouth.
Song Xingyou maintained the posture of a slumped “rice ball” restricted by the seatbelt, giving the man face by taking two licks, then proudly rubbing his ears.
His furry paws brushed his chin. The cat looked deadly serious, though he was almost unable to suppress the smile at the corners of his mouth.
Who knew? Lu Xiao Chuan is actually a cat lover.
Thinking about how the man had actually abandoned his work to stay at the hospital for an hour on a shopping spree, Song the Cat wagged his tail triumphantly and snickered behind a “cotton” paw.
Now I’ve caught you!
Ha, as expected of me. I’m brilliant as a human and as a cat!
Being successful as a human is nothing; only he, Song the Cat, could order the workaholic Lu Jingchuan around like this!
He was here to be Lu Xiao Chuan’s ancestor!
The kitten covered his mouth, his ear-tips twitching with excitement. He licked the fish can like he was tasting fine wine, narrowing his eyes smugly.
Lu Jingchuan glanced at him while waiting for a red light, his fingers itching to move.
Cute. I want to take a photo to send to Xing-xing.
Lu Jingchuan opened his schedule management app. He cleared all his planned activities and, with a few taps, filled his schedule with work.
More instinctive than work was the subconscious act of opening Song Xingyou’s chat box. It remained quiet; no reply.
Three days, ten hours, and 36 minutes!
Lu Jingchuan analyzed calmly: perhaps the signal on the mountain was bad.
That was fine!
Work was waiting quietly in his inbox. When Lu Jingchuan arrived home, he opened a can for the kitten and then focused on his computer to start working.
The cat supplies were temporarily piled by the door alongside the cardboard boxes, waiting for the owner to deal with them.
According to Lu Jingchuan’s schedule, he would finish his work first and then handle those items.
The dim light fell on Lu Jingchuan’s deep eyes. His long fingers danced across the keyboard, the veins on the back of his hand winding around; it was an unintentionally sexy sight.
Inexplicably, Song Xingyou licked his mouth. He jumped onto the dining table, crouched down, and swished his tail while peeking at Lu Jingchuan’s computer.
His fluffy ears brushed against the back of the man’s hand. The man’s movements paused. Between picking the cat up and letting it be, he chose to ignore it.
His expression was focused. He attached files to his rigorously formatted emails, dealing with important matters one by one.
Song Xingyou widened his eyes, his cat eyes full of serious concentration.
While studying abroad, Lu Jingchuan had started a drone program compilation software company with his classmates. It was quite famous overseas and collaborated with most foreign drone companies.
Of course, compared to the Lu family’s Shengda Group; which dealt with new energy and high-end automotive chips; this was just a small-scale venture.
It was just a little experience for the “Crown Prince” of the Lu family.
Song Xingyou was no Crown Prince; he was a second-generation playboy.
He watched for a while, then pulled his head back and thought solemnly:
A second-generation playboy who studies music has no need to understand code.
You can’t make things difficult for a little kitty!
Bored, Song Xingyou didn’t care to look anymore. He let out a yawn, jumped to the floor, and meowed as he began patrolling his future territory with his tail held high.
Most importantly, he had to find out exactly who Lu Jingchuan was sending photos to!
Send, send, send. Every single day. Can you find a wife by sending photos?
With me, the Cat Sheriff, on duty, I’ll make sure you can’t find one!
He threw a “Cat-Punch” into the air, energized as he padded along on his paws to begin his unique investigation plan.
The kitten wove between the boxes, his ears standing upright like radar. His steps were light, and his tail swayed flexibly.
His silhouette flashed past the window, unaware that a pair of vertical pupils was watching him through the gaps in the fence.
“Boss, a kitten has entered our territory.”
In the dark alleyway, the sunlight hid fearfully outside the shadows. Only the sound of the wind could be heard. In the kingdom built of discarded boxes, several pairs of pointed ears suddenly stood upright. Countless cat pupils glinted with a sharp luster.
“Good.”
In the silence, heavy footsteps moved downward. A deep voice let out a contemptuous, airy sound, filled with danger:
“Bring it here.”
