After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 3
Meow Meow Meow. Lu Jingchuan Doesn’t Like Small Animals…
Lu Jingchuan didn’t like small animals.
In the country where he studied abroad, it was the norm to find raccoons in trash cans, woodlice in the sewers, wild boars while hiking, and “hooligan” pigeons fighting you for bread in the town squares.
To him, they were uncontrollable variables and accidents that disrupted life.
He was very busy and had no time to deal with these variables, nor should he waste time on these soft, willful little creatures.
But.
The man crouched down. His expression remained cold, and his clean, neat attire exuded an indescribable air of nobility and elegance.
At this moment, he held one side of his overcoat open, revealing a warm black sweater and an inviting embrace.
“Do you want to come with me?”
The man’s palms were dry and safe, held open before Song Xingyou as if asking for permission. The embrace, nestled between gray and black, felt like a small heater. It vaguely hinted at a solid, sturdy physique beneath his tall and lean exterior; just looking at it radiated a warmth that made one’s bones feel cozy.
His neat suit trousers creased from the crouching motion, making the small muddy paw prints on them even more obvious and messy. This was a sharp contrast to the man’s usual tidiness, yet at this moment, it seemed soft and intimate.
While Song Xingyou wanted to stamp even more muddy prints on them, his eyes darted around, and a bright lightbulb popped up in his head.
That’s right! Go home with Lu Jingchuan!
His family and the Lu family were neighbors. The two grandfathers had been friends for decades. If Lu Jingchuan took him home, couldn’t he just make a run for it and go to his older brother for help?
Isn’t that much more promising than eating and drinking with Chu Zhuo?
Fine, I’ll reluctantly accept.
Song Xingyou lifted his paw arrogantly, without a hint of embarrassment, shame, or timidity. He raised his chin high, like a king finally granting an audience to a subject.
With light steps, he jumped onto the man’s knee. He matter-of-factly wiped his paws on the man’s clothes, curled into his arms, and lifted his head proudly.
Hmph. You asked for this. I’ll make sure you learn the meaning of “sinister cat intentions” and what it’s like to bring home a cat that turns out to be a little ancestor.
I won’t let you off… oh no, I won’t treat you poorly.
Song Xingyou curled his tail, the expression beneath his cat paws looking extremely evil and crafty.
The “Evil Calico” triumphed with a display of bared fangs and brandished claws, but as soon as he was wrapped in the man’s warm coat, he was instantly dazed by the cozy atmosphere. His bones felt soft, his eyes narrowed into thin slits, and his whiskers twitched comfortably. He shook the tips of his ears as if shaking off fine snow.
The tips of his ears brushed against Lu Jingchuan’s chin, bringing a fine, dense itch. Lu Jingchuan, as if possessed, stroked the kitten’s head. Seeing how comfortable the kitten looked, he felt an impulse and scratched the chin of the cat that had turned into a soft ball.
There was nothing to regret.
“Meow~” Oh~ so comfortable~
Song the Cat, who had never enjoyed such treatment, was captured by his feline nature. He instinctively narrowed his eyes, his bones seemingly melting from the pleasure. Abandoning his dignity, his entire body softened into a lump, and a rhythmic “purr-purr” sound vibrated uncontrollably in his throat.
Wait!
His thin cat ears were gently pinched. Song Xingyou suddenly snapped back to his senses and flew into a sudden rage.
Rat-bastard! How could I actually act so cute and pleasing like a real cat!
A conspiracy! This is an absolute conspiracy!
Song the Cat immediately raised a paw and glared furiously at Lu Jingchuan’s hand. There must be magic on it. Maybe this guy washes himself with catnip at night!
Scheming man!
Acting as if facing a great enemy, he was grabbed by the paws and tucked into the man’s coat. The man’s throat moved, and his chest vibrated like thunder against Song Xingyou’s ear.
“Let’s go.”
Song Xingyou flattened his ears, which folded back involuntarily from the vibration. Shaking his head from the resonance, he hurriedly poked his head out of the clothes and narrowed his cat eyes.
His mind was filled with plans on how to ask his brother for help once they got home. That was, until he noticed Chu Zhuo’s car driving into an increasingly unfamiliar area, heading straight toward the city center.
Who moves out to live on their own the very second day they return to the country!
Oh. It’s that bastard Lu Jingchuan.
Song Xingyou was completely stunned. His amber cat pupils widened as he looked up in disbelief at Lu Jingchuan’s sharp jawline, then turned to look at the row of townhouses near the city center.
“I have a date to go drag racing, so I won’t help you clean up the house today. Remember to take the kitten to the hospital for deworming and vaccinations.”
Chu Zhuo parked the car at the entrance, leaning flamboyantly against the window of his sports car. He raised a handsome eyebrow. “Bye-bye, kitty~”
Bye-bye your head!
It had been a long time since Song Xingyou had experienced such emotional upheaval. He was so immersed in art at university that he felt a musician should be composed and elegant.
But how is a cat supposed to stay calm!
Song Xingyou was carried into the house while grumbling. The entire house was filled with cardboard boxes and furniture covered in white sheets, making the place look extremely dull and boring.
There wasn’t a speck of artistic aesthetic.
Song Xingyou unceremoniously wandered around the house, inspecting his future territory. His pupils constricted, and he swished his tail, disdainfully bypassing one box and piece of furniture after another.
The kitten’s light footsteps made no sound. Once a cat entered such an environment, it was as if he had melted into the house, disappearing from sight.
Lu Jingchuan didn’t mind. He was on the first floor tidying things up. Even when the cat walked over his head, he didn’t look up once.
He had a very handsome face, and his entire being exuded a wealthy and noble aura. It reflected the refined composure cultivated by a deep-rooted, prestigious family; even while doing cleaning work, he appeared to be doing it with ease.
What’s wrong with him? Insisting on cleaning up by himself.
Song Xingyou, who always cherished his hands and would rather pay than do manual labor, narrowed his eyes. He looked down from a high vantage point at his rival turned janitor, and the urge to do something to annoy him began to stir.
That was until Lu Jingchuan lifted the protective cover by the French windows.
It was a piano!
Song Xingyou’s eyes lit up. He scrambled down from his high spot, circling the piano with his tail held high, and patted the front cover with a cat paw.
This piano was newly shipped. It’s beautiful, sleek black lines were polished to a mirror shine. The cat sat on top of it, his reflection joined at his feet. He twitched his ears and patted the reflection as if greeting another cat.
The two cats, one real and one reflected looked straight at Lu Jingchuan simultaneously. For some reason, the man understood his intention. He never believed in things like telepathy, but at this moment, he reached out and lifted the piano cover as if compelled.
The kitten immediately wagged its tail in satisfaction. Its long tail swayed, rubbing against the man’s wrist with a rare softness.
He stood on his tiptoes, stepping lightly toward the edge. He poked his head out from a height. The edges of his pointed little ears were stained with dark ink, but the ears themselves were translucent with a thin flush of blood, glowing dreamily in the sunlight.
Song Xingyou was itching to try. His tail curved into an arc as he tentatively pressed a key.
The piano note rang out. Song Xingyou’s eyes curved, and his cat eyes darted around craftily for a few breaths. Then, his tail swayed, and he firmly pressed down several notes.
“Xiao~ Sha~ Bi~” (Little~ Stu~ pid~ Ass~)
Lu Jingchuan: ?
“Sha~ Bi~” (Stu~ pid~ Ass~)
Which was more shocking: a cat that could play the piano, or a cat that could use music to insult people?
Lu Jingchuan paused for a long time. Under Song the Cat’s indignant gaze, he heartlessly shooed the “Musician Kitty” who was one with the instrument away from the piano.
Revenge! This is absolute revenge!
Song Xingyou’s eyes widened in disbelief. He meowed, his tail held high, and angrily slapped Lu Jingchuan’s shin, trying to use his strength to convince Lu Jingchuan of his mistake!
Song the Cat, feeling that losing music meant losing his soul and losing his instrument meant losing his partner, sat down with a thud on the dining table in the middle of the villa. He spread his legs weakly and propped himself up with his furry arms, his pure and cute cat face filled with accusation.
Every time Lu Jingchuan passed by, he used his accusing voice and angry gaze to fiercely condemn this bastard!
Damn that annoying Lu Jingchuan!
Song the Cat briefly lost his spirit, but he was soon awakened by a more entertaining endeavor.
Lu Jingchuan had been abroad for nearly four years and had stood up the welcome-home banquet organized by his friends. One by one, his friends called him to hold him accountable.
Halfway through tidying up, he received a call from a friend.
The friend’s voice was full of laughter, undoubtedly mocking him. “I told you to stand us up. I said Xing-zai would be angry, didn’t I? Watch out, he might not reply to your messages for ten days or half a month.”
Ten days or half a month?
Lu Jingchuan stood by the French window, pinching the bridge of his nose with a headache. He looked down and tapped the phone screen a few times. The shadow from his deep brow fell against the light, almost splitting him into the gloom, and the corners of his lips were pressed straight.
“He hasn’t acknowledged me for three days and eight hours.”
Lu Jingchuan reported the number with precision.
He swiped up with his finger. Since the day after he confirmed his return date, the chat history had never been replied to. All that remained were a few lonely photos of animals he had sent.
“Then shouldn’t you hurry up and chase him?” The friend couldn’t help but laugh and tease. “Initiate ‘Project: Win Back the Princess’!”
On the other end of the line, the friend laughed loudly, rambling on and instructing Lu Jingchuan that he must have a good talk with Xing-zai. It wouldn’t do for good friends to just cut ties like that.
Everyone was in the same circle. Song Xingyou’s friends were Lu Jingchuan’s friends. As mutual friends, now that Lu Jingchuan was finally back, everyone was eager to help the two of them reconcile!
“Win back the princess…”
Lu Jingchuan chewed on those words. His eyes lowered, and with a tap of his finger, a beautiful photo of the little calico was sent into the chat box between the two of them.
The fluffy photos that had always worked before had completely lost their charm with Xing-xing. There was still no response in the chat box.
What a difficult little princess.
Lu Jingchuan tapped the back of his phone thoughtfully when a cat suddenly darted into his field of vision.
Song Xingyou stood on his tiptoes, his eyes aimed at the water cup on the coffee table. He jumped up and his cat paw restlessly nudged it. He sat down primly like a ball of fluffy cotton.
He opened his small mouth, baring four cute little fangs from his sweet lips, his pink tongue flickering in and out.
“Meow~” He softened his voice, letting out a sweet meow. The end note was like a piece of cotton candy floating in the air, swirling around.
The cat’s golden eyes shimmered, blinking with innocent charm. A wink felt even more like a twinkling star, sweet enough to make one’s mind wander.
Lu Jingchuan’s gaze was drawn to him, fixed on that crafty and wicked smile at the corner of the evil little calico’s mouth.
The bad kitty proudly twitched his whiskers and placed a paw against the water cup.
Lu Jingchuan’s brow twitched.
Song Xingyou silently counted: three, two, one…
Water cup, free!
Crash!
