After Turning Into a Kitten, I Was Adopted by My Father-Figure Childhood Friend - Chapter 13
Meow. “Sir, today’s sunset…”
“Sir, does today’s sunset look like the color of a tuna can to you?”
The pitch-black cat, standing like a stark silhouette, rose leisurely from the ground and into Song Xingyou’s field of vision.
Its green pupils shimmered with a ghostly glow, appearing as if out of nowhere.
The little calico was startled, hopping backward uncontrollably. His expression was dazed, lacking any of the fierce, bad-tempered “grumpy cat” energy from before. Instead, he blankly twitched the tips of his ears and let out a confused inquiry:
“What sunset? What salmon? Are you hungry?”
Salmon? It seemed Lu Xiao Chuan had bought some canned salmon.
Song Xingyou flicked his tail and glanced at the black cat. Its ink-black fur made it impossible to tell if it was a little stray or a house cat. Perhaps black was just a slimming color?
“Fine, you wait here.”
Song Xingyou scratched his ear, looked the black cat up and down thoughtfully, and then dashed downstairs.
He sprinted across the living room and jumped onto the kitchen island in a few bounds. His body, exceptionally light and flexible due to his feline form, displayed excellent agility at this moment.
He propped himself up to claw open the upper cabinet door, hopped up casually, and leaped straight into the wall cabinet.
The cabinet was filled with the expensive cat cans Song Xingyou had selected; boxes upon boxes of cat treats were stacked together. He held his tail high with an air of entitlement as he picked out a can with a salmon printed on it, pawing at it.
Turning into a cat didn’t bother Song Xingyou much. He had occasionally thought it might be nice not to be human; there was nothing wrong with being a little cat that acted like a pampered tyrant.
However, Song Xingyou now realized something was terribly wrong.
A cat’s paws simply couldn’t get a grip on a smooth, rounded metal can. He agonized for a few breaths, constantly comforting himself with the thought, “I’m a kitty, I’m a kitty,” until he finally swallowed his pride and awkwardly bit into a corner of the can.
Sliiiide— The can slipped smoothly past his mouth.
Song Xingyou: ?
He froze in shock. He looked down at his two furry paws and then at the can that had flown away. Rage instantly flared up. Refusing to admit defeat, he chased after it, opening his mouth wide with the ferocity of a pouncing tiger.
I bite!
He pressed his teeth against the edge and applied force, but the smooth can slipped past his mouth again.
“Meow meow meow!” How dare you play with the Great King of Cats!
Song Xingyou was furious. He chased the can and gave it two heavy “Cat-Punches.”
Lu Jingchuan walked into the kitchen carrying large shopping bags, only to find the little ball of fur inside the open cabinet punching and kicking a can. He paused. Caught between witnessing the kitten’s assault on the can and stepping in to help, he chose to lift his phone.
Click—
The moment the shutter snapped, Song the Cat’s ears swiveled toward the sound like radar. The kitten, who had been angrily pummeling the salmon, tilted his head. His expression shifted from anger to confusion, and then to absolute fury.
A series of photos captured the progression like a comic strip, ending with the “Cat-Bat” flying toward the man at high speed.
Rat-bastard! Taking paparazzi photos of me to bait people again!
Cat-Man punishes justice! Take this!
The Cat-Bat spread its arms wide, its beautiful amber eyes burning with a fierce fire. Like a small cat-blanket, it draped over the man’s head. Accompanied by two lightning-fast punches, Lu Jingchuan’s vision went black as his face was sat upon as punishment by the kitten.
Lu Jingchuan: .
So soft.
With the fine fur rubbing against his face, he could only feel an enchanting, fluffy softness enveloping his breath. His entire perception sank into that cloud-like tenderness.
Lu Jingchuan instinctively reached out to hold the kitten, though he received two kicks to the chin from restless little feet. He let out a muffled grunt; his every breath was filled with the kitten’s warm scent.
The aroma of “Cat-Poof” was a sweet strawberry scent.
As Lu Jingchuan breathed, he inexplicably caught a familiar milky fragrance—fragrant and soft, like…
His breath hitched. The kitten-scent in his chest instantly synchronized with the scent in his memory. During his and Song Xingyou’s inseparable teenage years, he had inhaled that scent countless times.
In his memory, that same fragrance always carried a sweet strawberry milk scent mixed with the coolness of winter’s first snow.
Song Xingyou was afraid of the cold in winter. As soon as the temperature dropped, his face would turn bright red, and the tip of his nose would turn pink too. He loved to lunge into Lu Jingchuan’s arms, burying his face in the man’s clothes. Watching the man shiver from the cold would make him laugh, but then he’d start shivering himself and have no choice but to burrow deeper into Lu Jingchuan’s embrace.
He would grumble about winter being too cold while refusing to leave the heat source, looking at Lu Jingchuan with such a pitiful yet adorable expression, unceremoniously ordering him to unwrap his favorite strawberry milk and hold the straw to his lips for a few sips.
…
Lu Jingchuan realized he was thinking about Song Xingyou again.
He couldn’t help it. While abroad, he had missed him terribly.
He inevitably spent his quietest, loneliest nights in a daze, reminiscing about things related to Song Xingyou—like remembering a treasure that reflected everything beautiful.
Xing-xing hadn’t replied to him for four days now.
Huuu—haaa—
The man’s heavy breathing blew coolly against Song the Cat’s belly, causing his fur to blow open and then settle back down.
Song Xingyou’s belly felt chilly. He couldn’t help but scratch his tummy, and touching the man’s high nose, he angrily gave it two kicks.
So what if you’re handsome! You still can’t catch a wife!
Song the Cat grumbled. After he moved his belly away, Lu Jingchuan still wore that same expressionless “dead-man” face. Perhaps due to lack of oxygen? His fair skin showed an unnatural flush.
He was… kind of handsome…
Song Xingyou inexplicably swallowed. He felt the man’s gaze was extremely dangerous, as if steeped in some deep, brooding desire.
And it seemed to be directed at him.
Song the Cat uncomfortably scratched his ear, acting smug to hide his nervousness. Hmph, now you know to be afraid! Let’s see if you dare photograph the Great King of Cats again!
The kitten looked triumphant, waving his two clenched “cotton balls” in the air. His tail was held higher than the sky as he snickered.
However, he saw Lu Jingchuan cover his nose, appearing to be in a daze.
Song the Cat unhappily thumped his tail against the table. Lu Jingchuan lowered his hand, and a drop of blood slowly trickled from his nose.
“!”
“Are you hungry?”
The man pinched his nose, the flush on his face deepening. It looked even more vivid and decadent against his overly fair skin; even his sharp features seemed tinged with pink.
He solemnly looked down at the foreign language instructions on the can. Content that he would usually understand at a glance now took several stutters to read; he couldn’t even distinguish between the words for “snack” and “staple food.”
“Meow!”
Song Xingyou let out a huff from his nose. He kneaded his tail with his paws and couldn’t resist turning his head to stare at the man for a long time.
The handsome man pinched the bridge of his nose, the veins on the back of his hand winding around. The protruding curves were exceptionally sexy and forbidden, even the tightened expression between his brows carried an indescribable, repressed obsession.
—It was impossible to tell if his nose had been broken by the kitten’s kick.
Song the Cat couldn’t help but “meow-meow,” the tip of his tail worrying wrapping around the man’s wrist.
Lu Jingchuan didn’t mind. This sort of thing had become quite frequent whenever he thought of Song Xingyou. It was likely just too much internal “heat.”
“Eat up.” Lu Jingchuan popped the can open, casually rubbing the kitten’s head. His large hand stroked from the back of the head down the spine, and then from the round butt all the way to the tip of the tail.
Under this full-service stroke, Song the Cat’s bones went soft. He felt his ears go numb with pleasure, and his tail instinctively wrapped around the man’s hand, swaying gently.
The entire cat seemed to melt under the heat of the man’s palm, turning into melted butter as he slumped softly on the island.
Song the Cat couldn’t help but tilt his head to rub against the man’s palm. His fierce voice suddenly became soft and sweet, and he kicked his hind legs in a way he couldn’t resist.
When the man withdrew his hand, the cat instantly opened his eyes unhappily, chasing after him in a daze.
In the next second, something cool was offered to his mouth.
Song the Cat looked closely; it was a fresh, peeled shrimp.
Lu Jingchuan had ordered a large bag of groceries online. The bag was open on the island, and the fresh shrimp were jumping in their bag of shallow water.
This guy finally knows how to eat something other than bread.
Song Xingyou’s gaze moved from the fresh meat in the bag to various green vegetables and fruits. Seeing the man finally let go of his nose and that the bleeding had stopped, he nodded with inexplicable relief. He rarely showed such good temper, marking the man with a small cat-paw print.
Human, it’s because you eat too few vegetables! It is definitely NOT a problem with me!
The kitten’s lively amber eyes were full of approval and praise. He even shook his head and gave a human-like nod.
Feeling the scrutinizing gaze move from the shopping bag to himself, Lu Jingchuan inexplicably felt like he was being inspected. He puffed out his chest and stood as straight as if he were at military attention.
“Meow meow!” The kitten, unable to reach the shrimp meat, unceremoniously broke the man’s upright posture with a paw. He dominantly hugged the man’s arm, meowing as he greedily munched on the shrimp.
A single shrimp lasted only two or three bites. The kitten chewed for a long while, then couldn’t help but lick his mouth, his beautiful cat eyes becoming large and round.
He ate happily, wagging his tail and meowing twice. He walked a circle around the man, pawed at the salmon can, and then “plop,” jumped to the floor.
“Meow~”
The kitten lifted his head, calling to the man as if urging him. He left a trail of small cat-paw prints on the polished floor.
He led Lu Jingchuan, who was carrying the salmon can, out of the kitchen. As he easily cleared the first step of the stairs, he turned back to meow at him.
“You-you?”
Song the Cat crouched by the stairs, very primly tucking his two little paws in front of him, his tail thudding against the floor.
Lu Jingchuan tentatively placed the salmon can in front of him. The kitten nodded his head happily and rubbed his fluffy self against the man’s leg.
The fine fur brushing against his leg felt like a ball of fluff, a ball of fluff rubbing against his heart.
However, after only two rubs, before Lu Jingchuan could return the favor, this stingy little kitty cocked its tail, pawed at the salmon can, and ran off.
Lu Jingchuan’s raised hand froze in mid-air. For a moment, he felt the speechless frustration and loss of being used and then discarded.
Song the Cat couldn’t understand human loss. He carried his hunted salmon can to the glass balcony door. After lingering there for a long time, his nose twitched, and he proudly puffed out his chest: “Meow meow?”
Meow, I’ve brought the salmon can back! My treat!
