- Chapter 30 - Obsession
Gently, would you please come back…
Jiang Xinxin found Pei Xiubai in a bar.
As she walked over, several women with bright makeup were surrounding Pei Xiubai.
A woman in a slip dress was holding a wine glass, giggling as she poured liquor into Pei Xiubai’s mouth.
“Sister, will you take me home tonight?”
“Sister, just one more drink…”
The women’s voices were soft and syrupy, mixed with the smell of alcohol.
Pei Xiubai leaned back on the sofa, the collar of her shirt unbuttoned by two, revealing her defined collarbone.
She seemed drunk, letting the women manipulate her, neither pushing them away nor encouraging them.
The assistant, Juzi, quickly stepped forward and shoved the woman who was trying to pour the drink. “Get out of the way!”
The wine spilled out, splashing the woman’s skirt.
“Who are you? Are you sick!” The woman who was pushed screamed, glaring at Juzi in dissatisfaction.
The other women also stopped their actions, looking displeased at the two people who had suddenly intruded.
Juzi stood protectively in front of Jiang Xinxin, refusing to back down, her expression fierce. “Get lost! Don’t touch President Pei!”
The women were intimidated by Juzi’s demeanor but were still unwilling to give up.
Seeing Jiang Xinxin reach out to pull Pei Xiubai up, they immediately rolled their eyes repeatedly. “Be reasonable, okay? We saw this woman first, you don’t have a chance tonight!”
Juzi could not tolerate these women looking at Jiang Xinxin with such eyes, and her anger intensified. She stepped forward, about to argue.
“Juzi.” Jiang Xinxin gently pulled the assistant’s arm with her free hand.
Juzi turned her head, saw Jiang Xinxin’s calm face, and reluctantly stopped her actions.
Jiang Xinxin didn’t bother with the other women, instead gently cupping Pei Xiubai’s face. “President Pei, I’m here to pick you up.”
She supported Pei Xiubai’s arm, trying to pull her up from the sofa.
Pei Xiubai didn’t have much strength, and most of her body leaned against Jiang Xinxin.
The strong smell of alcohol mixed with unfamiliar perfume rushed towards her.
With Juzi’s help, Jiang Xinxin supported Pei Xiubai and managed to get her out of the bar with difficulty.
Seeing that they knew each other, the women didn’t dare to say anything more.
The wind outside was very cold. Jiang Xinxin tucked Pei Xiubai into the back seat of her minivan.
She had just let out a sigh of relief and was about to close the car door, when Pei Xiubai suddenly reached out and accurately grabbed her wrist.
Jiang Xinxin’s heart skipped a beat.
She looked at Pei Xiubai’s face, which was so close, and her cheeks started to heat up uncontrollably.
“President Pei, you” Just as she was about to say something, Pei Xiubai spoke first.
Her voice was slurred, carrying a strong scent of drunkenness.
“Qingqing…”
The heat on Jiang Xinxin’s face instantly receded.
Her blood seemed to solidify at that moment.
Pei Xiubai murmured, “Qingqing, I want to drink rock sugar pear soup…”
Her voice softened, carrying a hint of grievance and dependence.
“I was wrong… Qingqing, would you please come back…”
Jiang Xinxin froze in place, unable to move.
The momentary flutter and excitement were gone, leaving only bone chilling coldness.
In the dim light of the car, the lingering red and swollen marks on Pei Xiubai’s face were faintly visible.
Those were given to her by Wen Zhu that morning.
Jiang Xinxin suddenly remembered that in the afternoon, she had used her connections to investigate why Pei Xiubai had such a complicated expression when she saw Wen Zhu’s trembling hand.
In their senior year of high school, Pei Xiubai and Wen Zhu were kidnapped by Pei family’s business rivals.
When they returned, Pei Xiubai was unharmed, but Wen Zhu’s right hand was broken.
The reason was obvious.
Wen Zhu’s hand was injured because she saved Pei Xiubai.
Jiang Xinxin slowly withdrew her hand.
Pei Xiubai did not hold on again; she just unconsciously frowned and continued to sink into slumber.
Jiang Xinxin picked up the spare thin blanket from the back seat and gently covered Pei Xiubai.
Her fingers were icy cold and slightly trembling.
She turned to look at her assistant, Juzi, in the driver’s seat, her voice carrying an undisguised panic.
“Juzi, with this debt of gratitude, will I… never be able to compare to Sister Wen Zhu?”
Her voice was very quiet, laced with a sob.
Juzi looked at Jiang Xinxin’s distraught appearance through the rearview mirror, feeling immense heartache.
She wished she could immediately clear all obstacles for her.
Especially that woman named Wen Zhu.
Something flashed through Juzi’s mind, and her expression instantly became somewhat sinister.
She leaned toward the back seat and whispered a few words into Jiang Xinxin’s ear.
Jiang Xinxin listened, her eyes wide with horror. “No! That’s not good…”
Her voice trembled. “Last time… President Pei was already very unhappy about the drowning incident, we can’t do something like that again…”
Juzi watched Jiang Xinxin’s hesitation and felt anxious. “Sister Xinxin! As long as that cheap woman Wen Zhu is around, you will never become Madame Pei!”
These words made Jiang Xinxin stiffen in place.
She lowered her gaze in disappointment, her long eyelashes casting a shadow below her eyelids.
This angle made her look fragile and pitiful.
Slowly, Juzi’s gaze could almost be described as obsessive.
She reached out and tightly grasped Jiang Xinxin’s hand, her tone resolute, like a vow. “Sister Xinxin, don’t worry. Since you are unwilling to hurt others, I won’t let you get involved.”
Just because Sister Xinxin wouldn’t do it didn’t mean she wouldn’t.
Her Sister Xinxin deserves to stand in the spotlight, enjoy endless adoration, and shine brightly.
She must not be dragged into the mud and tormented by these irrelevant bad women!
Jiang Xinxin’s gaze fell on Pei Xiubai’s face beside her.
That face, which was always cool and indifferent, was now flushed with color because of the alcohol, making her look dangerous yet charming.
She was still muttering “Qingqing” under her breath.
A kind of near obsessive adoration slowly emerged on Jiang Xinxin’s face.
Her eyelashes fluttered slightly, and it was unclear whether she had heard Juzi’s words.
