- After Trying To Pursue The Cold, Elegant Beauty. I Ended Up Being Flirted With Instead
- Chapter 23 - Very Busy
Is this Li Zhiyun’s girlfriend?
Leaving the hospital, due to the heavy rain, Wen Zhu paid three times the price to get a cab back to the guesthouse.
She didn’t have Li Zhiyun’s phone number, so she had to ask the guesthouse owner’s wife for Qiao Qiao’s contact for Jiao Jiao’s watch phone. She sent Jiao Jiao a message saying she had some work to do and had already headed back.
Not long after the message was sent, a new WeChat friend request popped up.
The note said: Li Zhiyun.
Wen Zhu’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly accepted.
The other party replied almost instantly.
“How are you getting back?”
The tone was cold but conveyed concern.
Wen Zhu looked at the screen, her fingertips moving slightly.
“I already got a cab. Something came up with work, sorry, I have to go now.”
The other side was silent for a few seconds before replying with a single word, “Okay.”
The chat ended there.
Upon arriving at the guesthouse, Wen Zhu took a shower and sat by the window.
With nothing else to do, she opened Li Zhiyun’s profile on a whim.
Her WeChat name was very simple, “zy.”
The profile picture, however, was quite amusing: a plump, white, cartoon fishball.
Recalling how Li Zhiyun ate all the fish balls first before touching the rest of the noodles that day, Wen Zhu smiled slightly.
It was clear that she really liked eating fishballs.
The minimalist name paired with the cartoon profile picture created an indescribable sense of contrast.
Just like Li Zhiyun herself.
And somehow, it was unexpectedly cute.
She waited a while longer, only feeling relieved enough to lie down on the bed after seeing the red Bugatti drive past below the building.
The good news was that Pei Xiubai did not call again, even late into the night.
This, in turn, made Wen Zhu feel relieved.
Given Pei Xiubai’s arrogance, he probably wouldn’t come looking for her again anytime soon.
That was fine by her.
Wen Zhu woke up early the next morning.
After quickly washing up, she went downstairs and saw Manager Wang standing there. He had completely shed his previous arrogant demeanor, his face beaming with an ingratiating smile.
“S-Secretary Wen, good morning!”
Manager Wang bowed repeatedly, his attitude ridiculously respectful: “Secretary Wen, I was blind before and had a bad attitude towards you. Please be the bigger person and don’t hold it against me.”
As Manager Wang spoke, he secretly observed Wen Zhu’s expression.
“I’ve been deeply reflecting on my mistakes these past few days and realized my errors. Please give me a chance to redeem myself and come back to work! The company can’t function without you!”
Manager Wang had clearly learned that Pei Xiubai was also in Tongcheng.
If Pei Xiubai found out that he, a minor manager of a subsidiary, dared to make things difficult for a leader sent from the headquarters, he would be in deep trouble!
He had troubled Wen Zhu to please Minister Zhen, but he certainly hadn’t intended to offend President Pei!
Wen Zhu looked at Manager Wang’s obsequious behavior and felt little emotional ripple.
She was not someone who liked to hold a grudge.
Since the other party had apologized, there was no need for her to dwell on it.
After breakfast, Manager Wang drove Wen Zhu back to the company.
The employees at the company saw Manager Wang personally escort Wen Zhu back, and their eyes looked at Wen Zhu differently now.
Manager Wang led Wen Zhu to a private office.
“Secretary Wen, this will be your office from now on. Let me know if you need anything else, and I’ll arrange it immediately.”
With that, he clapped his hands, and three young people, a mix of men and women, walked in.
“I’ve also selected these assistants for you. Take a look and pick whichever one you like!”
Wen Zhu surveyed the three people in front of her, thought for a moment, and said, “I’ll take the intern who came to pick me up before.”
Manager Wang was stunned, apparently not expecting Wen Zhu to forgo these experienced assistants for an intern.
But he didn’t dare to ask more and quickly said, “Yes, yes, absolutely no problem!”
The intern from that day also hadn’t expected Wen Zhu to specifically choose her.
She walked up to Wen Zhu, still cautious: “Secretary Wen, my name is Bing Bing. Please let me know if you need anything in the future. I… I will definitely follow you and learn well!”
Wen Zhu looked at her bright, energetic face. “Following me can be very tiring. Are you not afraid?”
“Not afraid!” Bing Bing’s tone was firm.
Wen Zhu nodded, then pulled up all of Uni’s recent major projects and asked Bing Bing to write a report on them.
During the lunch break, Wen Zhu went to the pantry to get water.
Just as she reached the door of the pantry, she heard a flurry of whispers inside.
“Did you hear? I saw on the entertainment news this morning that President Pei has a new celebrity fling recently and even accompanied her to a film set!”
“Really? Is that Jiang Xinxin going to be our CEO’s wife?”
“I saw it too! They say President Pei came to Tongcheng just for this actress and even stayed with her on the set for half a night! How much love must that be for President Pei to do that!”
“I know, right! Ahhh, I want a partner like President Pei too!”
Hearing these words, Wen Zhu’s hand trembled suddenly, and the scalding hot water spilled out, burning the back of her hand red.
“Hiss”
She couldn’t help but gasp.
The gossiping employees quickly came over to check on her.
“Secretary Wen, are you alright?”
They didn’t know about the relationship between Wen Zhu and Pei Xiubai. They were just curious about this new leader who was beautiful and, after being challenged by Manager Wang, was actually picked up by him personally.
“I’m fine.” Wen Zhu shook her head, forcing a smile.
She returned to her office, slightly distracted, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
After all, such a long relationship could not be completely forgotten just like that.
Fortunately, after hearing these things, the pain in her heart was no longer as sharp as before.
Shaking her head, Wen Zhu forced herself to stop thinking about those things and immersed herself completely in her work.
After a busy day, Wen Zhu received a message from Li Zhiyun when she finished work.
Li Zhiyun said her sister was busy and she needed to take Jiao Jiao to buy a new Go board, asking if Wen Zhu wanted to go with them.
Wen Zhu thought that Li Zhiyun probably noticed her great interest in Go when they played that day.
She genuinely wanted to go.
But then she remembered that Pei Xiubai would likely stay in Tongcheng for a while.
Given Li Zhiyun’s background from the Li family, she naturally wouldn’t fear Pei Xiubai’s harassment.
However, Wen Zhu still didn’t want to cause Li Zhiyun unnecessary trouble, as the Li sisters had been very kind to her.
She thought about it and replied that she was very busy with work recently and didn’t have time.
Li Zhiyun understood her subtle excuse of being busy, and she did not send any further messages over the next few days.
Before she knew it, a few days flew by.
When work ended that day, the department organized a dinner gathering.
Wen Zhu ate dinner with her department colleagues and then went to a bar with them.
The bar was dimly lit, and the music was deafening.
Wen Zhu didn’t particularly like this noisy environment but patiently stayed with everyone.
Just as she entered the bar, her gaze unintentionally swept across a corner booth.
With just one look, she recognized Li Zhiyun!
Today, she was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, simple attire that made her look as if she had just returned from the market after buying groceries.
Yet, even in such casual clothes, Li Zhiyun still appeared ethereal and refined in the noisy bar.
Her cold, aloof demeanor seemed out of place in the lively bar but was absurdly captivating, drawing the attention of almost everyone in the room.
Soon, Wen Zhu also noticed a very beautiful woman sitting opposite Li Zhiyun.
She was wearing a long red dress, looking enchanting and seductive.
Is this Li Zhiyun’s girlfriend?
Wen Zhu subconsciously wondered.
But before she could even process the thought, her subordinates pulled her away, and they began to toast her enthusiastically.
Li Zhiyun came out of the restroom and, as she passed a private room, she inadvertently overheard Wen Zhu’s name.
She paused and looked through the gap in the door.
A middle-aged man was sitting on the sofa, speaking into his phone with an incredibly fawning tone: “Minister Zhen, please rest assured, President Pei hasn’t come to the company to see that Wen Zhu even once these past few days!”
“Don’t worry, I’m keeping a close eye on everything for you… Yes, that’s right, we’re at a bar…”
“What? Are you really going to do that? If those kinds of pictures are taken, it will ruin Wen Zhu. Won’t President Pei let us off the hook then…”
