After Trying To Pursue The Cold, Elegant Beauty. I Ended Up Being Flirted With Instead - Chapter 19
She was so angered by Wen Zhu that she completely dismissed the matter.
Leaving You Ni, Wen Zhu took a taxi straight back to the guesthouse.
Tongcheng certainly earned its nickname “Wind City” the incessant howling wind outside her window last night kept Wen Zhu up several times, as she habitually slept with the window open for ventilation.
Not having slept well, she decided to head back and catch up on some rest.
Just as she reached the guesthouse courtyard, she spotted a dog from a distance.
It was a Shiba Inu, fluffy and incredibly cute, with big, round eyes and a small silver bell hanging from its neck.
The moment it saw Wen Zhu, it excitedly rushed toward her, its tail wagging like a small electric fan, letting out “woof woof” sounds of affection as it ran.
Wen Zhu already loved small animals, especially cute dogs like this one.
Her heart melted, and she couldn’t resist bending down to gently pat the Shiba Inu’s head.
Its coat felt smooth and fine, and its fur was soft clearly a pampered, well-fed, and finely kept dog.
“Such a good boy.” Opportunities to pet a friendly dog were rare, so Wen Zhu couldn’t help but give it two more strokes.
When she was satisfied and about to stand up, the unexpected happened
“Bang!”
The Shiba Inu, which had just been friendly and affectionate, suddenly trembled, its limbs went slack, and it collapsed onto the ground with a “plop,” immediately starting to convulse, letting out soft whines from its mouth.
“!!!”
Wen Zhu froze instantly, her heart sinking, unable to move from where she stood.
She stared blankly at the convulsing Shiba Inu on the ground, her mind a blank, as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped over her head.
After two seconds, she finally realized this wasn’t a dream. She immediately pulled out her phone, fumbling to dial for help.
“Beep beep!”
Just then, a slightly anxious voice sounded. Wen Zhu looked up and saw a woman in a floral dress walking quickly toward them.
The woman looked furious.
Wen Zhu’s heart tightened. Had the dog’s owner found them?
The woman immediately spotted the Shiba Inu on the ground, her beautiful eyes widening, and she instantly raised her hand to strike.
Wen Zhu thought the woman was angry enough to hit her, and she quickly took a step back to apologize: “I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry, I only touched it a couple of times just now, I don’t know why it suddenly fainted! I promise, I will immediately take the dog to the vet, and I’ll cover all subsequent expenses”
“Slap!”
A crisp sound rang out.
The slap didn’t land on Wen Zhu but squarely and hard on the Shiba Inu’s back.
“Stop playing dead! Get up!”
The woman was wearing a floral maxi dress, with a slender figure and long hair draped gently over her shoulders. Her features were delicate and beautiful, and she looked gentle and fragile.
Yet, when that slap landed, it was full of force.
Wen Zhu’s eyes widened.
More absurdly, the convulsing dog on the ground stopped its movement the next second.
Then, it cautiously opened one eye. “Woof?”
Upon seeing the newcomer, the dog immediately sprang up, instantly becoming lively and energetic again.
It even wagged its tail and went to rub against the woman’s leg in a flattering manner, its movements agile and nimble, bearing no resemblance to the dog that had been on the verge of death moments ago.
Wen Zhu felt even worse.
Had she just been scammed by a dog?
Seeing the dog get up, the woman continued to scold: “How many times have I warned you not to play this kind of game? And you still do it! Do you not take my words seriously? Be careful, no meat for you tonight!”
Hearing “no meat,” the Shiba Inu immediately whined pitifully, its ears drooping, staring at her with pleading eyes.
“Now you’re playing the victim, go away!” The woman didn’t pay it any more attention, turning instead to look at Wen Zhu.
Upon seeing Wen Zhu clearly, the woman’s eyes suddenly lit up, and her expression softened instantly: “You must be Wen Zhu, right?”
“I apologize, my dog often plays dead to scare people; it thinks it’s fun,” the woman explained with a smile, her voice carrying a hint of apology. “You weren’t too scared, were you?”
Of course she was!
Wen Zhu’s heart was still racing she had nearly been scared to death just now.
How could there be such a mischievous dog in the world!
But facing the woman’s inquiry, she instinctively shook her head, forcing a composed smile. “I’m fine.”
She looked up, studying the woman before her, and suddenly felt that her features bore some resemblance to Li Zhiyun’s the few subtle nuances in their eyes were strikingly similar.
But unlike Li Zhiyun’s cold demeanor, this woman appeared much gentler.
If one could ignore the slap she just delivered.
Wen Zhu tentatively asked, “Are you… Miss Li?”
Li Zhishu smiled at the words, her eyes brightening with a hint of cheerfulness. “I remember you. You’re my grandmother’s lifesaver, aren’t you? How about you just call me Sister Zhishu.”
The woman continued with a smile, “Jiaojiao told me that she caused you trouble yesterday, right? I specifically came here today to apologize to you.”
In reality, the apology was secondary; she wanted to see Wen Zhu with her own eyes.
Wen Zhu hadn’t expected Li Zhishu to personally come and apologize to her. She was flattered and quickly waved her hands: “No, no, I should be the one visiting to apologize to you”
“Apologizing to me is fine too.” Li Zhishu blinked and suddenly suggested, “How about this: I happen to be free tonight. Why don’t you come over to my place for dinner tonight, and let’s consider that your apology.”
Wen Zhu was momentarily stunned. “Huh?”
“It’s settled then.” The more Li Zhishu thought about it, the better she felt about her suggestion. She pointed in the direction not far away. “My house is the sixth garden house on the right, just ahead. It’s very close.”
After speaking, her bright eyes looked at Wen Zhu a few more times, with an enthusiasm that was impossible to refuse. “Don’t bring anything, just bring yourself.”
Wen Zhu opened her mouth, but before she could refuse, Li Zhishu had already taken the Shiba Inu and turned to leave.
Only Wen Zhu remained, standing rooted to the spot, watching her retreating figure. “???”
In the afternoon, Pei Xiubai returned to her office after finishing a meeting.
The assistant approached her: “President Pei, a package arrived from Tongcheng just now. I’ve placed it on the coffee table in your office.”
Tongcheng?
Hearing that name, Pei Xiubai’s heart gave a sudden leap.
She didn’t bother to say much to the assistant and quickly walked toward the coffee table, her gaze fixed on the package bearing the Tongcheng sender address.
Just as she was about to open it, her phone suddenly rang.
Pei Xiubai frowned, glanced at the caller ID on the screen, paused for a second, but answered it nonetheless.
“President Pei, did you receive the package I sent?” On the other end of the line, Jiang Xinxin’s soft, gentle voice sounded.
“You sent it?” Upon hearing it was from Jiang Xinxin, Pei Xiubai’s movement immediately stopped. A sense of disappointment washed over her, and she lost all desire to open it.
She released the package, casually pushed it to the side, leaned back on the sofa, and replied with a perfunctory tone: “Not yet, the assistant hasn’t brought it up. What did you send?”
“It’s some local specialties from Tongcheng,” Jiang Xinxin answered with a chuckle on the other end.
“That’s sweet of you, Xinxin.” Pei Xiubai gave a light laugh, but her gaze resting on the package was somewhat indifferent. “Why are you in Tongcheng, too?”
Jiang Xinxin paused for a second upon hearing this, then laughed: “Did you forget? I told you at the celebration banquet a few days ago that I was coming to Tongcheng to film a drama recently.”
Pei Xiubai rubbed her temples. It did seem like something like that had happened.
However, she had been so angered by Wen Zhu at the time that she had completely dismissed the matter.
“Hmm, I vaguely remember.” Her tone was flat as she casually responded, “How is the filming going?”
“Very smoothly.” Jiang Xinxin’s voice softened even more.
Then, she took a light breath, her tone becoming more cautious, carrying a hint of ingratiation, and she whispered, “President Pei, the reason I called you today is actually to apologize.”
“Oh?” Pei Xiubai’s expression changed slightly.
“It was my assistant who made a mistake yesterday; she misunderstood Sister Wen Zhu.” Jiang Xinxin’s voice held a note of pleading, her tone so tender it almost dripped with moisture.
“It was a staff member from the props team who forgot to check the wire. I was hospitalized not because of Sister Wen Zhu… President Pei, I beg you, please don’t blame Sister Wen Zhu, okay?”
