- After Trying To Pursue The Cold, Elegant Beauty. I Ended Up Being Flirted With Instead
- Chapter 18 - Good Night
They wanted to give Wen Zhu a hard time.
“You don’t keep your word, I hate you!” Jiao Jiao burst into tears.
Upon hearing this, Li Zhiyun first glanced sideways to check Wen Zhu’s reaction.
Seeing that Wen Zhu was merely staring at her with blinking eyes, her expression unchanged, she then lowered her head and began to soothe Jiao Jiao in Hong Kong dialect.
Wen Zhu could barely understand the subsequent conversation.
She could only make out a few scattered words.
But she could tell that Li Zhiyun was patiently comforting Jiao Jiao.
In the past, she had always found the Hong Kong dialect obscure and difficult to understand.
But now, listening to Li Zhiyun’s low, gentle tone, which sounded like full pearls dropping, carrying a unique timbre and intonation, Wen Zhu found it exceptionally pleasant.
It seemed necessary for her to learn the Hong Kong dialect later.
After about a few minutes, Jiao Jiao’s crying gradually stopped.
As if tired from crying, she snuggled in Li Zhiyun’s arms, closed her eyes, and slowly fell asleep.
Only a few sparkling tears still clung to the corners of her eyes, and her cheeks were round, like a little hamster.
She was a child, and it was late; she should have been asleep long ago.
Wen Zhu walked up and pulled a wet wipe from her pocket, handing it to Li Zhiyun.
“Thank you,” Li Zhiyun mouthed her thanks, then took the wet wipe and gently cleaned Jiao Jiao’s eyes and face.
“It’s very late. I’ll take Jiao Jiao back now,” she said softly.
Wen Zhu nodded quickly, “Okay. You really worked hard today.”
Li Zhiyun got into the car with the child, and Wen Zhu also turned to go back.
Just as she was about to enter the courtyard of the guesthouse, a low call suddenly sounded from behind her: “Wen Zhu.”
“What is it?” Wen Zhu turned back almost instantly, asking softly.
A few steps away, outside the fence, Li Zhiyun stood by the car. Moonlight filtered through the mottled leaves, casting shadows that outlined her graceful figure.
She wore a long dress, gently swaying in the breeze.
Perhaps it was Wen Zhu’s imagination, but she seemed to catch a fleeting smile in Li Zhiyun’s eyes: “Don’t rush.”
She said, “Good night.”
The tone was cool and struck straight to the heart.
Although the night wind was chilly, Wen Zhu suddenly felt her cheeks inexplicably hot.
“Good night,” she nodded hastily, then turned and rushed through the gate.
Back in her room, the first thing Wen Zhu did was not turn on the light, but immediately open the window.
Leaning out, she could only see the red Bugatti speeding away.
Tongcheng had a windy season every year for a month. The night wind rushed in, filling her chest.
It made her heart pound wildly.
Wen Zhu took several deep breaths before finally driving away that strange feeling.
Was she running a fever?
She touched her forehead, felt nothing unusual, quickly washed up, and went to bed.
The next morning, Wen Zhu woke up early and headed for Yu Pei’s branch office in Tongcheng.
The branch company, called Youni, specialized in architectural design. Its annual performance was generally mediocre, so it was not highly regarded among all the subsidiaries.
At the same time, because it had many older employees, it was difficult to standardize management.
It could be said that when Pei Xiubai handed this hot potato to Wen Zhu, all of Yu Pei’s management secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
In about fifteen minutes, Wen Zhu’s taxi arrived downstairs at the company building.
As soon as she got out of the car, a seemingly young female employee stepped forward and asked, “Hello, are you Secretary Wen?”
Logically, the news of Wen Zhu’s transfer to Tongcheng should have already been notified to Youni’s person in charge.
They clearly had time to prepare, but after several glances around, she finally confirmed that only this one female employee had come to meet her.
Moreover, looking at the employee’s badge, she was only an intern.
What the people at Youni were up to was obvious
They wanted to give Wen Zhu a hard time.
“Secretary Wen, this is the coffee I ordered for you.” The intern certainly knew what it meant for her supervisor to send her to greet Wen Zhu. She nervously handed over the coffee.
She didn’t even dare to look up and was already prepared for Wen Zhu to get angry so she could immediately apologize.
Wen Zhu noticed the intern’s slightly trembling hand, then shifted her gaze to the brand logo on the coffee.
It was a popular influencer brand that required waking up an hour early to queue for.
They were all fellow hard working employees.
She sighed, then suddenly smiled, taking the coffee. “Thank you. Don’t be nervous, take me up.”
Surprisingly, this time, Wen Zhu’s proud charm failed again.
When the intern saw Wen Zhu’s smile, her tense expression not only failed to relax but became even more nervous as she seemed to recall something.
She stepped aside to let Wen Zhu pass: “Secretary Wen, please follow me.”
After speaking, she led Wen Zhu straight up to the sixth floor and towards the business department office.
Along the way, many people noticed Wen Zhu and cast curious glances at her.
The closer they got to the business department office, the slower the intern walked.
Finally, she stopped in a corner of the office, pointed at the workstation in front of them, and nervously told Wen Zhu: “Secretary… Secretary Wen, this is your workstation.”
Wen Zhu stared at the scene, silent: “…”
Calling it a ‘workstation’ was already being generous.
The desk in front of her was battered and covered in dust and clutter, and a protruding section of the wall directly occupied half the space of the desk.
If Wen Zhu were to describe what this thing was, she would be blunt:
It was a garbage heap.
The intern sensed Wen Zhu’s sudden sinking expression and fearfully wiped the sweat from her forehead.
“This must be Secretary Wen?” Just then, a group of people walked over, led by the Business Department Manager, Wang Zhao.
His gaze was like a slimy viper, scanning Wen Zhu from head to toe, a glint flashing in his eyes.
Then he squinted his small eyes, handed over a document, and laughed with a strange tone, “Hello, Secretary Wen. My name is Wang Zhao, and I’m here to deliver materials to you. I’ve long heard of Secretary Wen’s reputation, and I didn’t expect to see today… Secretary Wen is indeed eye-catching!”
Wen Zhu had seen too many malicious gazes; her expression remained unchanged as she took the document from the manager’s hand.
The document title was Youni’s largest current project, the one Wen Zhu was here to solve.
She opened the document and casually flipped through it
After just two glances, she smiled.
Manager Wang stared intently at Wen Zhu’s face, and while Wen Zhu was looking at the document, he added, “Secretary Wen, I know you are a leader from the head office, but our company is currently short on workstations, and I apologize that there is no extra office for you. I’ll have to trouble you to work here for the time being.”
He smiled hypocritically and flamboyantly, with a hint of scorn: “It is said that Secretary Wen is exceptionally capable and even better at pleasing CEO Pei. I assume that working anywhere is the same for a talented person like you, isn’t it?”
Wen Zhu looked up and re-examined the bald middle-aged man in front of her.
If she recalled correctly, she had seen this disgusting face on Director Zhen’s computer conference screen before.
In that case, the reason for the hard time she was given this morning was now clear.
Manager Wang continued to chatter: “Since Secretary Wen was sent by the head office, we also want to see your capability. We can’t let it be true, as some people at the head office say, that you got to this position entirely by selling your..”
“Snap!”
Wen Zhu threw the document onto the desk, kicking up a circle of dust.
In the next moment, she picked up her bag, grabbed the coffee the intern had just bought, and strode toward the door.
Her movements were quick and decisive, and her tailored business attire made her look capable and composed.
Manager Wang was instantly anxious. He subconsciously took two steps forward and shouted, “Secretary Wen, where are you going!”
This shout was incredibly loud, and immediately, all eyes on the entire floor turned towards them.
Under the curious gaze of everyone, Wen Zhu tucked her long hair behind her ear, turned, and sweetly smiled at Manager Wang: “To work.”
Manager Wang was even more confused: “Isn’t your workstation right here?”
Wen Zhu slightly raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise: “Is it? You call this a workstation?”
“How is this not..” Manager Wang’s small pupils darted around as he struggled to find the right words.
Wen Zhu interrupted him directly: “I don’t know what the rules are in Tongcheng, but in Yancheng, we don’t call a garbage heap a workstation.”
“And this document, you must have mistaken it. The information inside can be easily found online.”
Her smile deepened, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but with your work ability, I’d suggest the head office use your salary to feed a dog because even a dog would know to bring a bone back.”
Manager Wang clearly hadn’t expected Wen Zhu to be so utterly disrespectful.
To be metaphorically told she was worse than a dog in front of everyone, Manager Wang’s face instantly flushed red, as if he had been severely slapped, alternating between green and white.
Wen Zhu, however, acted as if she couldn’t see his face twisted with rage, and continued softly: “You’re welcome to go complain to the person behind you, but you remember this: I’m only giving you three days to beg me to come back.”
Feeling parched after speaking, she took a sip of coffee, raised the cup, and looked at the intern: “The coffee is good.”
Then, she turned and left the office without looking back.
Workplace bullying was not uncommon for Wen Zhu she had plenty of ways to resolve these troubles.
But she was too lazy to do so.
She agreed to come here just to give herself a period of buffer time.
She only had to stay for a month before she could resign, so what did it matter whether she completed the project well or not?
She might as well just enjoy a month of leisure here.
After all, she was certainly not the one who would be in a hurry in the end.
