- After Trying To Pursue The Cold, Elegant Beauty. I Ended Up Being Flirted With Instead
- Chapter 17 - Getting Angry
“You said you only buy it for people you like!”
On the other side, Wen Zhu found the head nurse, revealed her identity as Yu Pei’s Chief Secretary, and the head nurse quickly took her to the monitoring room to delete the surveillance footage from Jiang Xinxin’s ward.
After handling everything, Wen Zhu walked out of the hospital and found Li Zhiyun’s Bugatti still parked by the roadside.
Unlike Li Zhiyun’s cold style, the red ceramic Bugatti looked bright and flamboyant, gleaming with a captivating metallic sheen under the streetlights.
“Is the matter settled?” Wen Zhu opened the car door and got in, and Li Zhiyun asked immediately.
Wen Zhu: “It’s all taken care of.”
After speaking, she looked up and saw Li Zhiyun staring at her without saying a word.
She thought Li Zhiyun didn’t believe her.
She smiled, “Although you might not believe it, I’m the best secretary in Yancheng. There’s nothing I can’t handle. I’ve been Yu Pei’s Employee of the Year for several years running.”
Seeing the way Wen Zhu’s eyes lit up whenever she talked about work, Li Zhiyun couldn’t help but curve her lips slightly.
“I believe you,” her voice was soft. “I was just thinking that some people really have no foresight.”
To force such a good employee to resign.
“What?” Wen Zhu didn’t quite understand the latter part of Li Zhiyun’s sentence.
Li Zhiyun shook her head slightly, indicating it was nothing, looked straight ahead, and started the car.
Wen Zhu blinked, didn’t press further, and lowered her head to fasten her seatbelt.
With a “click,” the seatbelt locked, and a cup of sweet drink was suddenly handed to her.
“You didn’t eat much tonight. It’s a reduced-sugar version of chocolate Ovaltine. Drink it to warm yourself up.”
Ovaltine…
Wen Zhu couldn’t even recall how long it had been since she last had one.
She accepted it blankly from Li Zhiyun, murmuring a “Thank you.”
The scenery outside the window began to rapidly recede. Wen Zhu looked down the Ovaltine in her hand was still hot, clearly made not long ago.
The contact of icy fingertips with warmth surprisingly caused Wen Zhu’s thoughts to pause for a moment.
Even when she was starving with a stomachache, Pei Xiubai never allowed her to eat in the car.
And now, she was sitting in the passenger seat of a woman she had only met twice, and was even drinking the Ovaltine she had specially bought for her.
It all felt like a dream.
At a red light intersection, Li Zhiyun stopped the car, glanced sideways, and saw Wen Zhu just staring blankly at the Ovaltine.
“Don’t you like it?” she asked.
Wen Zhu snapped back to attention, lifted her hand to open the lid, and took a large gulp.
The sweet, smooth liquid slid down her throat, warming her entire chest, abdomen, and even her limbs.
Then she nodded, nodding heavily: “I like it, I like it very much.”
Ovaltine was her absolute favorite.
But, how did Li Zhiyun know?
Was it a coincidence?
Wen Zhu drank most of it, leaned against the seat back, and looked out the window.
Outside the glass window, antique style small buildings hung with lanterns, and the lake surface reflected the moonlight, full of silver shimmer.
Peaceful and gentle.
The car quickly arrived downstairs at the guesthouse.
Jiaojiao was clearly waiting for Li Zhiyun. As soon as she heard the movement, she immediately ran downstairs with her short little legs, pitter-pattering.
“Auntie!”
Jiaojiao slapped the car door, tears welling up in her eyes, her little mouth pouting high: “Did you forget about me! Why did it take you so long to come and pick me up!”
Li Zhiyun opened the car door, skillfully picked Jiaojiao up, and just as skillfully comforted her: “Be good, Jiaojiao. Auntie had something to attend to just now, I didn’t mean to be late picking you up. Please don’t tell your mom, okay?”
Wen Zhu, who had just stepped out of the car and heard this, “…”
She felt like her worldview was about to shatter.
In the moment she found it inexplicably funny, Wen Zhu suddenly felt that Li Zhiyun was not so out of reach after all.
Turns out, someone like Li Zhiyun also feared her older sister just like an ordinary person.
She walked around the front of the car to Jiaojiao, “I’m sorry, Jiaojiao. Miss Li didn’t forget you. I had something to deal with, and Miss Li was delayed a little because she was dropping me off.”
“I apologize to Jiaojiao. Please don’t be mad, and forgive your auntie just this once, okay?”
Wen Zhu considered herself to be very amiable.
In the past, when meeting clients, their children always liked her at first sight. She could become good friends with children in a very short time.
Just like now, she faced Jiaojiao, displaying her most gentle and affectionate smile.
But unexpectedly, Jiaojiao immediately looked at the cup of Ovaltine in her hand.
With just one look, those black grape-like big eyes instantly filled with tears.
Then, before anyone could react, the little girl let out an “Aow!” and burst into loud wailing!
“Waaaah! Naughty Auntie!” Jiaojiao cried breathlessly, hugging Li Zhiyun’s shoulder, her childish voice particularly loud in the night, “You said you only buy Ovaltine for people you like!”
Perhaps she was crying too intensely, Jiaojiao suddenly forgot to speak Mandarin and switched to Hong Kongese to accuse Li Zhiyun.
Wen Zhu didn’t understand much of it but slowly realized.
Jiaojiao was crying so hard, clearly because of the drink in her hand.
Her always prided amiability failed in front of Jiaojiao
All because of a cup of Ovaltine.
