- After Trying To Pursue The Cold, Elegant Beauty. I Ended Up Being Flirted With Instead
- Chapter 13 - Jealousy
Sister Wen zhu really does hate me after all.
Wen zhu never liked Jiang Xinxin from the start.
Part of the reason was because of Pei Xiubai, but the other half was because she felt uncomfortable the moment she first saw Jiang Xinxin.
Some people are simply not compatible.
But Jiang Xinxin, unfortunately, possessed a naturally pure and harmless face, making her appear like an innocent little white flower the type Pei Xiubai liked the most.
Wen zhu lowered her gaze, offered a polite, faint smile, and said calmly, “You don’t need to explain to me. I have no right to manage President Pei’s affairs.”
She came to Tongcheng for work this time because she wanted a break and temporarily didn’t want to go back and face Pei Xiubai.
Seeing that Wen zhu showed no sign of pain or distress, Jiang Xinxin’s eyes flickered slightly. Just as she was about to say something else, she suddenly noticed the woman standing beside Wen zhu.
Her gaze immediately paused for a moment.
The woman was tall and slender, with a cold and noble aura. Even without speaking, her presence was impossible to ignore.
In comparison to Pei Xiubai, she was in no way inferior.
Jiang Xinxin’s eyes moved slightly, and her tone carried a hint of innocent curiosity: “Sister Wen zhu, who is this?”
Wen zhu disliked Jiang Xinxin’s probing gaze.
She remained calm and her tone was still flat: “A friend.”
Not wanting Jiang Xinxin to pay too much attention to Li Zhiyùn, she added, “I’m sorry, we are going to have dinner now. Let’s chat another time when we are free.”
Jiang Xinxin looked up at Wen zhu, a sweet smile on her face: “I’m also about to have dinner. Sister Wen zhu, why don’t you join me? The crew prepared a meal for me; it tastes quite good.”
She seemed unaware of Wen zhu’s distance, acting like a neighbor’s little sister trying to coax her.
Wen zhu merely smiled faintly: “We shouldn’t interrupt you. You should focus on filming.”
Jiang Xinxin’s smile froze slightly, and her eyes instantly reddened: “Sister Wen zhu, you are actually still blaming me for what happened last time, aren’t you?”
Her eyes were full of apology and grievance. She lowered her eyelashes, the sight of which was enough to make anyone feel protective: “But I truly like you and want to be friends with you. Can you please forgive me…”
Wen zhu’s expression did not waver after hearing Jiang Xinxin’s words, her forced smile remaining flawless.
She neither agreed nor disagreed, turning her head to look at Li Zhiyùn.
The two then walked away side by side.
Jiang Xinxin was stunned for a moment. She looked at Wen zhu’s resolutely departing back, her lips moving, but she ultimately said nothing.
Only after Wen zhu had walked about ten meters away did she retract her gaze, slightly lower her eyes, and reveal a trace of grievance on her face.
“Sister Wen zhu really does hate me after all,” she murmured softly, her tone carrying a hint of loss.
The assistant standing nearby glanced sideways in the direction Wen zhu had left, speaking with a trace of disdain: “Sister Xinxin, it’s normal for her to hate you! You’re so beautiful and young, and you have President Pei’s affection. Maybe that woman is completely consumed by jealousy right now!”
She rattled on: “And you still treat her as a friend! Look at her attitude toward you just now! Everyone in the circle says she’s deeply in love with President Pei, but who would have thought that while she’s pestering President Pei, she immediately hooked up with another woman as soon as she got here! What ‘devoted lover’ persona I think she’s clearly a cheap, promiscuous woman!”
Jiang Xinxin seemed slightly startled by the comments, lightly furrowing her brow. “That can’t be, Sister Wen zhu shouldn’t be that kind of person…”
The assistant scoffed, her eyes holding a significant look: “Sister Xinxin, didn’t you see just now? The two of them were holding hands! If there’s nothing going on, who would believe it? Only someone as innocent as you would believe she’s pure.”
Jiang Xinxin immediately felt flustered, unable to stop herself from clenching her fingers. She glanced toward the direction Wen zhu had left, a flash of worry in her eyes.
“President Pei still cares about her,” she murmured. “If he knew Sister Wen zhu met someone else after coming to Tongcheng, he would definitely be very angry, right…”
Upon hearing this, a spark of cunning flashed in the assistant’s eyes, and she immediately chimed in: “Exactly! Sister Xinxin, haven’t you always wanted to get close to President Pei? Last time Wen zhu blocked President Pei from investing in you, causing you to miss that award. This is our chance to teach her a lesson!”
As she spoke, she took out her phone, preparing to take a photo of Wen zhu and the other woman walking away.
Seeing this, Jiang Xinxin quickly reached out to stop her: “No, we can’t tell on her… What will President Pei think of me if he finds out?”
She lightly wiped the corner of her eye, her voice softening a bit: “It’s okay, it’s normal for Sister Wen zhu not to like me, since I did have some inappropriate contact with President Pei before… Forget it, I’ll just endure it myself.”
With a soft sigh, she turned and walked away.
The assistant stood in place. She understood what Sister Xinxin meant: she couldn’t directly tell on her, or President Pei would suspect Jiang Xinxin had put her up to it.
But that wretched woman bullied Sister Xinxin like this, and she couldn’t just swallow her anger!
Since she couldn’t send the photo directly, surely it wouldn’t hurt to fan the flames a little?
Thinking this, the assistant’s lips curled into a meaningful smile. She quickly drafted a message on her phone, then pressed the send button.
