Zhao Chaoxi was stubborn.
Born ordinary yet raised under adoring gazes, she’d always been someone who stood out—clever, charming, effortlessly magnetic. So, when you suddenly dropped her into a world and gave her an Alpha who seemingly disliked her—even if that Alpha was just a fictional character—it was enough to awaken her competitive streak.
No way. She couldn’t just let Yuan Xiao walk away!
That was the only thought left in Zhao Chaoxi’s mind. When she saw Yuan Xiao starting to move, she immediately jumped to her feet, trying to stop her.
Unfortunately, Omegas in heat were fragile, and Zhao Chaoxi still wasn’t used to her new body—or to the world’s ABO mechanics. After holding it together for so long, her weakness finally caught up with her. The result was utterly
humiliating.
The moment she stood up, the world spun, her knees went weak, and—thud!—she collapsed onto the floor.
Two kneels in one day.
The first time, no one had seen her. The second time, Zhao Chaoxi’s toes curled in mortification so hard she could’ve dug straight into the earth. She was a grown woman—where was she supposed to put her face after that?
So, the instant she fell, Zhao Chaoxi did the only thing she could: cover her face.
Seriously, what kind of ridiculous “heat period” setting was this? It was practically an open invitation to be bullied!
If Yuan Xiao already disliked her before, this would definitely make things worse.
Hiding her face in her hands, Zhao Chaoxi let out a silent, pitiful wail in her head: “It’s over. Totally over!”
The Alpha, who had just been about to fetch the inhibitor, froze in place. Her eyes filled with worry as she looked at the Omega kneeling pitifully before her. Yuan Xiao wanted to help her up, but just as her hand was about to touch Zhao Chaoxi’s delicate shoulder, she forced herself to stop.
No touching.
A mess of emotions churned inside Yuan Xiao. She knew what would happen if an Alpha touched an Omega in heat.
She wouldn’t be able to stop herself—she’d push her down right there on the carpet, tear open that bathrobe, and bite down without mercy, without restraint.
She wanted to make it up to her wife, but Yuan Xiao wasn’t confident she could suppress her instincts now. Frozen where she stood, she clenched her jaw and gave herself a mental lecture.
“No. Absolutely not. You’ll scare her! Be a decent human being for once!”
No matter what, she couldn’t let her wife’s first experience be something terrible. After a full minute of internal struggle, Yuan Xiao forced herself to stay composed and finally asked, “Where’s the inhibitor?”
The moment Zhao Chaoxi heard that, she felt as if she’d been struck by lightning.
She guessed it! She really does hate me!
What do I do? My wife doesn’t like me. I’m gonna cry.jpg
After the disastrous series of events—her “fish pond” blowing up, being thrown into a novel, suffering through heat, and now being despised—Zhao Chaoxi’s mind was mush. But desperation bred creativity, and a sudden spark went off in her head.
No one said she couldn’t break character a little, right? It’s not like the sweet, naive Omega persona forbade her from taking off her clothes in front of her own wife!
So, she acted.
Without a word, Zhao Chaoxi tugged at the belt of her bathrobe and grabbed Yuan Xiao’s bare ankle with her other hand. Looking up with teary eyes, she whimpered softly, “Don’t use the inhibitor.”
Yuan Xiao lowered her gaze—and froze.
Her Omega wife’s robe had slipped open, pale shoulders exposed, the soft skin of her chest flushed pink and rising with uneven breaths. That delicate doll-like face was filled with trembling vulnerability, and those watery eyes looked up at her with need.
Tempting.
In an instant, the air filled with the heavy scent of red wine pheromones, completely overpowering Zhao Chaoxi’s own rose fragrance.
She caught the scent and smirked inwardly. Ha. Hook, line, and sinker.
That Alpha wearing her first love’s face now had her eyes reddened, her back straight, fists clenched tight at her sides. There was no way she wasn’t tempted.
And indeed, Yuan Xiao’s pulse was racing. Torn between pheromonal attraction and visual temptation, she was fighting a losing battle. Any normal Alpha would be completely undone.
But what she thought instead was.
This place is a disaster zone. I need to leave.
Just as Zhao Chaoxi was smugly certain her plan had worked, Yuan Xiao suddenly bolted upright and fled—three steps at a time—slamming the door behind her with a thunderous bang!
Zhao Chaoxi turned to stone.
What???
Hot.
Burning, torturous heat. The kind that made her feel like she’d die from it.
For three seconds, Zhao Chaoxi just stared blankly, then swallowed dryly, licking her parched lips before muttering through clenched teeth, “Little bunny, be good.”
【System, just waking up and immediately covering its eyes: “Oh my gosh! So indecent!”】
Zhao Xi: “…”
“Cut the crap, you stupid system! Does that Yuan Xiao really hate the original host that much? How did the original plotline even get to the rough marking part? Why’d she run away now? Is she—broken or something?”
【Innocent Mode System: “Of course not! She’s fine—very fine, actually. One shot, one soul, if you know what I mean!”】
Zhao Chaoxi was on the verge of losing it.
“Then why did she run? How am I supposed to clear the mission if she won’t mark me?”
【Slacker Mode System: “No bugs detected in the storyline so far, so you’ll just have to figure it out yourself, Host.”】
Zhao Chaoxi didn’t even have the strength to rage anymore. She just lay there on the floor, playing dead.
“Forget it. I quit. I can’t carry this anymore. Let the world burn. I’m done.”
【Suddenly Motivated System: “No, no, wait! I’ll run a full diagnostics check for possible bugs right now! But in the meantime, please hang in there and finish the first main mission. If you die of heat here, you’ll trigger a loop.”】
Zhao Chaoxi’s eyes widened. “What???”
【Timid System: “Uh, yeah, if you fail the mission, you’ll, um, restart from the beginning.” (voice getting smaller and smaller)】
“Grass—a kind of green plant!” Zhao Xi cursed through gritted teeth.
Dragging herself up from the floor, she forced her wobbly legs to move. Her survival instincts kicked in, giving her just enough strength to stumble toward the bedroom door, though every step looked like she could collapse at any moment.
【Timid System: “Um, Host.”】
Panting with fury, Zhao Chaoxi snapped, “OUT WITH IT!”
【Timid System: “You could call her? Or send her a message? Ask her to come back, maybe?”】
Zhao Chaoxi almost coughed up blood. “Why didn’t you say that earlier?”
【Innocent System: “You didn’t ask. Anyway, see you next time! Good luck, Host! Bye-bye ( ^_^ ).”】
By the time the system disappeared, Zhao Chaoxi was already leaning against the door, gasping for air.
She swore—this was by far the longest, most humiliating night of her entire life.
With trembling hands, she fished her phone out of her bathrobe pocket, unlocked it with face ID, and went straight to her contacts.
Who knew what was wrong with that damn Alpha? She wasn’t following the plot at all! If Zhao Chaoxi sent a message and Yuan Xiao simply didn’t reply, she was doomed.
She searched “Yuan Xiao” in her contacts—nothing. So, she scrolled down furiously.
And then she saw it.
Zhao Chaoxi’s pupils shrank.
“Little Yuan Goddess Kissy Baby Darling Wifey?”
What kind of demonic nickname was that?
