No matter what Yuan Xiao was thinking, Chaoxi was now fully embracing a let-it-all-go state.
After all, the system had made it clear—the Alpha’s emotional breakdown had nothing to do with her. She had only one job: to complete the main storyline properly.
That night, the two decided on their honeymoon destination—Baba Island. Yuan Xiao quietly scooted closer, her hand brushing against Chaoxi’s as she tilted her head and asked softly, “So, when are we going?”
Chaoxi wasn’t quite sure when, exactly, the original plot had them leaving. She noticed Yuan Xiao’s subtle movement, stifled a laugh, and quickly replied, “Whenever you want. I can go anytime.”
Yuan Xiao smiled brightly. “My company just assigned me a new agent, but there’s nothing on my schedule yet. Just a few acting classes I can do on my own. So how about tomorrow?”
“Sure. Tomorrow it is,” Chaoxi nodded, her smile sweet and bright. She held up her phone to show Yuan Xiao. “My mom just sent me Aunt Yang’s number—I’ll give her a call to let her know.”
For Yuan Xiao, who had just gotten a second chance at this, every moment felt precious. Impulsiveness lingered on the edge of her chest—she wanted to reach out and ruffle Chaoxi’s hair but was afraid the gesture might startle her. So, she held back, bit her lip, and said instead, “Then, wifey, rest well tonight. Good night.”
The word wifey slipped out naturally. Yuan Xiao didn’t find it awkward at all—her gaze was soft, brimming with affection for the woman before her.
There had been too many regrets in her past life. This time, she was determined to make things right.
Chaoxi met Yuan Xiao’s gaze, and that word wifey made her skin crawl a little. Still, she kept her face composed and even managed a bashful smile. “Okay, you too. Rest well.”
But Yuan Xiao didn’t budge. She sat there, reluctant to leave, reluctant to tear her eyes away from the person she had regained.
“Um.” Yuan Xiao hesitated. “Your mark. I want to take another look.”
“Huh?”
Look at the mark?
Chaoxi blinked in confusion.
Wasn’t she about to go back to her room?
Yuan Xiao noticed her puzzled expression and hurried to clarify, her fingers lightly brushing against the back of Chaoxi’s hand. “I just want to check if it’s healed properly. We’ll be outdoors a lot during the trip, and I don’t want what happened this afternoon to repeat. Just want to make sure everything’s okay.”
She raised her index finger; Chaoxi had already been bitten twice by her, and clearly had no sense that an Omega’s glands were something private. Turning around without hesitation, she exposed the back of her neck.
The skin there was still faintly flushed—not as smooth as before. The Alpha’s bite marks were deep and raw, a touch of pink flesh visible beneath the shallow scabs.
Yuan Xiao’s eyelid twitched. Honestly, she had only said it as an excuse. She hadn’t expected her wife to be so obedient—to just turn around and show her like that.
With her head bowed and the curve of her neck bared, Chaoxi looked irresistibly alluring.
Yuan Xiao’s heartbeat quickened; she nearly stopped breathing.
Chaoxi, facing away, waited a moment. When the person behind her didn’t move, she asked softly, “Are you done?”
Yuan Xiao swallowed hard, her gaze fixed on the delicate skin of Chaoxi’s nape. Her voice came out low and husky as she leaned in, gently circling her arms around the other’s shoulders.
“Let me take a closer look.”
Her voice brushed against Chaoxi’s ear, deep and velvety, tinged with something dangerously sensual.
Chaoxi frowned slightly but hummed in acknowledgment. “Mm.”
Three minutes passed. Yuan Xiao’s pulse was racing. She dared not hold her too tightly, loosening her arms just a little.
Another three minutes later, Chaoxi’s neck had gone stiff. Feeling uncomfortable, she asked quietly, “Yuan Xiao? Is it okay now?”
She couldn’t stay like this any longer.
Yuan Xiao realized her self-control was slipping.
Her teeth itched.
The Alpha’s pheromones were surging restlessly inside her—if she didn’t leave now, she wasn’t sure she could hold herself back. The faint mix of both their scents still lingered in the air.
“It’s fine now,” Yuan Xiao said, her voice low and strained.
Chaoxi let out a breath of relief, plopping down beside her and stretching her neck. She glanced up expectantly.
But Yuan Xiao avoided her gaze, mumbling quickly, “Then I’ll go back to my room and work on the itinerary.”
“Ah?” Chaoxi blinked. “Didn’t you say you were going to rest?”
“I will,” Yuan Xiao promised. “I’ll rest right after.”
Chaoxi curved her lips into a smile. “Okay.”
She didn’t see Yuan Xiao off—Yuan Xiao seemed to know the place better than she did anyway. Since the point Chaoxi had entered this world, they’d already been living in this villa, and she was still stuck in a passive role, letting Yuan Xiao take the lead.
Once Yuan Xiao left, Chaoxi collapsed onto the bed, exhausted.
A wave of fatigue washed over her. The marking earlier that afternoon had made her realize that the original owner’s body was quite fragile—it couldn’t handle a strong Alpha’s pheromone injection very well.
Now, she could barely move. She buried her face into the blanket with a muffled groan.
Sigh, she hadn’t even done anything herself, and yet she’d experienced all that just because she transmigrated into this story. Kind of unfair. And kind of embarrassing.
Mostly embarrassing.
Nope, stop thinking about it. Tomorrow’s the honeymoon trip.
That night, Chaoxi called Xinle Entertainment’s executive director to inform them of their trip.
The next morning dawned bright and sunny. Yuan Xiao arrived early, knocking on the door.
She’d already finished the itinerary and packed her luggage—a sleek black suitcase stood beside her. Seeing it, Chaoxi blinked in surprise. “Wait, we’re leaving right now?”
Yuan Xiao said, “I’m not leaving just yet. I’m only taking the suitcase out so it’s ready to load into the car later.”
The window in the master bedroom had been drawn open by Chaoxi. Sunlight poured in, dazzlingly bright. She shifted slightly to the side, making space for Yuan Xiao to speak from inside the room. Yuan Xiao, however, remained standing at the doorway, bathed in the golden summer light, her whole figure softened by its glow.
From the corner of her eye, Chaoxi glanced at her and asked, “Why aren’t you coming in?”
“I got a call from the company when I woke up,” Yuan Xiao said with a smile. “They’ve given me two weeks off. Let’s go have breakfast first, and then we’ll set off. When you come downstairs, Aunt Chen will come over to pack your things.”
Chaoxi had been planning to pack her own luggage, but at Yuan Xiao’s reminder, she suddenly remembered that the original host of this body was a pampered heiress—someone who’d never so much as folded a shirt herself. So, she immediately nodded and said, “Okay! Let Aunt Chen pack for me then. I’m starving!”
Yuan Xiao followed her downstairs for breakfast, but the meal didn’t go as smoothly as expected.
Because—Chaoxi’s mother called again.
Guessing what her mother might be about to say, Chaoxi turned to Yuan Xiao apologetically. “Sorry, I need to take this.”
Yuan Xiao gave a gentle smile. “It’s fine. Go ahead.”
Chaoxi rose from her seat and moved aside before answering the call, making sure she was out of earshot.
The moment the call connected, Mrs. Zhao’s warm voice came through. “Sweetheart, have you set off yet? Did Aunt Chen finish packing your things? It’s your first trip with Yuan Xiao, so make sure you’ve brought everything you need.”
Sure enough, it was her mother fussing over her again. Chaoxi felt a mix of helplessness and fondness. “I know, Mom.”
But Mrs. Zhao’s tone suddenly grew serious. “You can do whatever you like with anything else, but this matter—you absolutely cannot. You understand what I mean, don’t you?”
Standing beside the decorative vase in the hallway, Chaoxi idly plucked at a rose petal, only to freeze mid-motion.
Something about that sounded off.
First, her mother had stressed that she should bring “everything necessary” for her first trip with Yuan Xiao.
Then she’d turned stern, emphasizing this matter you absolutely cannot.
What could possibly make her doting, indulgent mother suddenly sound so firm—using words like “must not” and “absolutely”?
Chaoxi decided to play dumb. “What matter? What are you talking about, Mom? I don’t understand.”
The line went silent for several seconds. Then she heard her mother clear her throat awkwardly—a sure sign she was about to avoid the real topic.
“If you don’t explain,” Chaoxi pressed lightly, “I might just stumble into it by accident.”
“Wait, no!” Mrs. Zhao said quickly, lowering her voice to a whisper. “Listen carefully. With your current condition, you must not go through with a lifelong mark. You have to be careful about, about pre—prevention.”
Chaoxi straightened in alarm. “Huh? What’s wrong with my body?”
The moment the words slipped out, she regretted it—hadn’t she just exposed that she didn’t know anything?
Her fingers tightened around the phone. A faint panic rose in her chest.
Mrs. Zhao rushed to soothe her. “It’s nothing, sweetheart, don’t panic. I just worry about you. Even for a healthy Omega, a lifelong mark can be taxing. And with your condition—the doctor said your late differentiation left you physically weaker, you need time to recover. It’s my fault for not taking better care of you.”
The more Chaozi listened, the more uneasy she felt. So, the original owner’s body really did have some kind of problem—something that made pregnancy dangerous or impossible right now.
But with Yuan Xiao still waiting for her to finish breakfast, it wasn’t the right time to ask for details. And pressing her mother further might only make her slip up.
After a brief pause, she forced a light laugh. “Got it, got it. Don’t worry, Mom—I’ll remember.”
Mrs. Zhao audibly sighed in relief. “Good girl. Enjoy your honeymoon, then! I’ll stop bothering you.”
After hanging up, Chaoxi pushed the whole issue aside for now and went back to the table.
As soon as she sat down, Yuan Xiao leaned closer and said quietly, “Don’t overthink it.”
Chaoxi blinked, confused. “Huh?”
Yuan Xiao met her gaze with calm reassurance. “It’s just a minor issue. Your mother already told me. I won’t do anything.”
So even Yuan Xiao knew?
