- After Transmigrating into an ABO World with My Rival
- Chapter 5 - Only Influenced by You
When it came to Fu Tingyue’s perfect, top-tier conditions, Chen Yanzhi was beyond criticizing. More accurately, he was too lazy to be jealous. The higher Fu Tingyue’s status was, the easier life would be for both of them in this world. Of course, he knew he would be just as impressive if he had those conditions himself.
But since he and Fu Tingyue were essentially family now, it didn’t matter who was more capable.
That being said, Chen Yanzhi still hadn’t quite given up hope. Like a studious pupil, his curiosity was overflowing. “Can I still differentiate into an Alpha later? Are there cases of people differentiating after they’re adults?”
Fu Tingyue stopped what he was doing and looked into Chen Yanzhi’s eyes. “There are, but differentiating into an Alpha or an Omega is tied to family genetics; it’s not something you can decide for yourself. Besides, being a Beta is good. Once you differentiate, you become susceptible to pheromones.”
While outliers existed, the Fu family had never produced a top-tier Alpha before; Fu Tingyue was the only one in many years.
“But I’m an orphan…” Chen Yanzhi stopped mid-sentence, realizing something was off. He pointed at himself. “He was an orphan. Can you even track his family genetics?”
Fu Tingyue didn’t answer directly. Instead, he spoke seriously, “Zhizhi, you and this body are one. If you keep drawing such a sharp line between yourself and this identity, you won’t be happy.”
Being too repulsed by this world and this body wouldn’t do Chen Yanzhi any favors in the long run.
Chen Yanzhi was visibly stunned. He looked down at his hands, his expression dazed. “If I don’t keep it clear, what if I eventually forget where I came from?”
Fu Tingyue reached across the computer to take Chen Yanzhi’s hand, offering a gentle comfort. “You won’t. I’m here. That won’t happen.” As long as he was there, Chen Yanzhi would always be Chen Yanzhi. Nothing would change.
Chen Yanzhi lowered his head and remained silent. He bit his pale lips until they turned white, then withdrew his hand to anxiously pick at his fingernails. He wasn’t sure if he should tell Fu Tingyue what was on his mind. He was afraid of being teased.
Seeing him like this, Fu Tingyue’s heart ached. “Zhizhi, tell me what’s wrong. Don’t keep it all inside.”
Chen Yanzhi had been pampered since birth; he looked lawless, but he was really just a child who hadn’t grown up. Suddenly being thrown here, he was bound to be afraid.
After a long silence, Chen Yanzhi looked up, his eyes reddening. “Fu Tingyue, I’m scared I’ll eventually forget what my parents look like. If we can’t go back, does that mean we’ll never have the chance to see them again?”
Fu Tingyue looked at those eyes, and the lie on the tip of his tongue died. “I don’t know. But since it’s already happened, think of it this way: compared to actually dying back there, isn’t this pretty good?”
Actually, before he met Fu Tingyue, Chen Yanzhi had already talked himself into accepting this body and this world. But now that he was reunited with his rival, he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering.
“I’m fine. I was just venting,” Chen Yanzhi said, wiping his eyes with his sleeve. He took a deep breath and forced a smile. “You’re right. It’s better than actually being dead. I’ll just treat it as reincarnation.”
Though he might never see his parents again, at least those two might have taken over their bodies, saving their parents from the pain of losing their sons. And besides, Fu Tingyue was here. He wasn’t alone.
Chen Yanzhi quickly composed himself. He slumped back into the chair like a boneless cat, looking as if he might slide onto the floor at any second.
Fu Tingyue set aside his work and stood up. “Let’s go out for a stroll to clear your head. No more brooding.”
Chen Yanzhi loved going out, and after a month of non-stop work, he hadn’t seen much of the city. He had no reason to say no.
Once in the car, Chen Yanzhi pressed his face against the window with curiosity. He didn’t ask where they were going; just sitting there watching the scenery was a thousand times better than being stuck at home.
Fu Tingyue rested his chin on his hand, his gaze warm as he watched Chen Yanzhi reach out to “touch” the wind. A tender smile touched his lips. Chen Yanzhi is cute no matter where he goes.
Chen Yanzhi suddenly turned his head. “Fu Tingyue, can I go drinking?”
Okay, maybe not that cute.
Fu Tingyue shook his head. “Forgot how much you were throwing up earlier?”
“I guess I did.” Chen Yanzhi thought about it and smiled. “Fine, no drinks for now. I’ll wait until I’m healthy.” He really wanted to get drunk and forget his troubles, but he didn’t push it.
Fu Tingyue nodded. “Mhm. We’ll go when you’re better.”
Chen Yanzhi patted Fu Tingyue’s leg and gave a playful hum. “Little Fu, you’re so well-behaved.”
Fu Tingyue naturally took Chen Yanzhi’s hand. When Chen Yanzhi pulled it back, a flash of disappointment crossed his eyes, though his tone remained light. “Where would Young Master Chen like to go? A place with a night view, or the beach for some fresh air?”
Chen Yanzhi thought it over. “The beach. If I just sit somewhere, I’ll want to eat again.”
Fu Tingyue took him to the coast. The ocean here was no different from the one in their old world—surrounded by lights and bustling with people.
After getting out, Chen Yanzhi looked around with wide eyes and started to tug Fu Tingyue along.
“Wait.” Fu Tingyue draped his jacket over Chen Yanzhi’s shoulders and adjusted his pheromone bracelet.
Chen Yanzhi leaned in, his breath brushing against Fu Tingyue’s wrist. “What’s this? It’s so cool, it even shows your heart rate.”
Fu Tingyue raised his wrist slightly, nearly bumping it into Chen Yanzhi’s lips, but the younger boy moved away. A trace of regret lingered in Fu Tingyue’s eyes. “A pheromone band. It blocks my scent.”
“Do Alphas and Omegas both have them?” Chen Yanzhi looked up like a curious child. “Can I get one? It looks so cool. People will definitely think I’m an Alpha if I wear one.” He puffed out his chest.
Fu Tingyue laughed softly and reached out to pat his head. “If you wear a band, people will only think you’re an Omega. A beautiful Omega.”
Chen Yanzhi swatted his hand away. Seeing that no one was looking, he hissed, “You want to die, don’t you? What kind of nonsense is that?”
Looking down on me? I’m definitely going to be an SSS-grade Alpha.
Chen Yanzhi didn’t realize that in this world, even S-grade Alphas were rare. If he actually became an SSS-grade, he’d probably be snatched up by a lab and treated like a guinea pig.
Fu Tingyue quickly smoothed his ruffled feathers. “Our Zhizhi will definitely be an Alpha.” Though, secretly, he hoped Chen Yanzhi would stay a Beta so he’d never have to suffer through the pheromone cycles.
“I told you not to call me that in public!” Chen Yanzhi gave him an elbow to the ribs and marched off in a huff. Fu Tingyue followed, a smile fixed on his face.
Chen Yanzhi’s current body was simply too weak. Back home, he could run 800 meters like it was nothing, but here, he was winded after a short walk. Fu Tingyue found a place for them to sit and rest.
Chen Yanzhi sipped a room-temperature drink with a slight pout. Glancing at Fu Tingyue’s band, he couldn’t help but ask, “Fu Tingyue, what do your pheromones smell like?”
He had looked it up online; everyone’s scent was unique. As a Beta, he couldn’t smell anything other than Fu Tingyue’s faint woodsy cologne.
Fu Tingyue smiled. “Do you want to know?”
Chen Yanzhi took a large gulp of orange juice and rolled his eyes. “Obviously. Why would I ask otherwise?”
Fu Tingyue kept him in suspense. “I’ll tell you later.” If it was confirmed that Chen Yanzhi wouldn’t differentiate, he would tell him. But not now.
Chen Yanzhi scoffed. “Acting all mysterious. I don’t even want to know anymore.” So what if you have pheromones? Betas are the only normal ones left. You’ve forgotten your roots.
Fu Tingyue didn’t respond. A commotion nearby caught his attention. He frowned and signaled to his bodyguards, who immediately went to handle it. The noise stopped quickly, and peace returned.
Chen Yanzhi couldn’t stay still for long. He wanted to go play in the sand, but Fu Tingyue was worried he’d catch a cold and wouldn’t let him. Annoyed, Chen Yanzhi finished his juice in one go and announced he had to use the bathroom, refusing to let Fu Tingyue follow.
Left with no choice, Fu Tingyue let the bodyguards accompany him, only following at a distance a few moments later.
Chen Yanzhi was still a bit annoyed with Fu Tingyue, but it was better than before. If they were back home, he wouldn’t have listened and would have run off to play with someone else. But after finishing in the restroom, he calmed down. He knew he was being difficult; Fu Tingyue was just looking out for him.
He was about to leave when he saw several large men circling a beautiful boy who was collapsed on the ground. Chen Yanzhi frowned, intending to ignore it, until he saw the men trying to drag the semi-conscious boy into a restroom marked “A.”
Chen Yanzhi couldn’t help but shout, “Hey! What are you doing?”
The men ignored him, continuing to drag the boy inside. The area fell into chaos. Everyone started acting strange, almost like they’d been infected by a terrifying virus. Their eyes were glazed as they lunged for the boy, tearing at his clothes.
“Stop it—”
Just as Chen Yanzhi was about to rush forward, Fu Tingyue appeared out of nowhere and grabbed his wrist, leading him away with a grim expression.
Chen Yanzhi looked back at the helpless boy. “Fu Tingyue, we can’t just stand by and watch!”
“I’ll have people handle it, don’t worry.” As Fu Tingyue spoke, the bodyguards stepped in to separate the crazed crowd and clear the area.
Chen Yanzhi and Fu Tingyue watched from a distance. Police and ambulances arrived quickly. People around them seemed used to this kind of thing.
Chen Yanzhi asked blankly, “What just happened?” Having only interacted with Betas for the past month, he didn’t know the specifics of Alphas and Omegas. The original owner’s memories were lacking in technical details.
Fu Tingyue kept it brief. “That Omega went into heat. The Alphas smelled his pheromones and were lured into a rut.”
Chen Yanzhi was bewildered. Heat? Rut? It sounds so complicated.
Fu Tingyue didn’t explain further, but smiled. “I’ll get you some books later. You’ll understand after reading them.”
Chen Yanzhi watched the boy being loaded into the ambulance. “What would have happened if no one stepped in?”
“He would have been taken by those Alphas repeatedly until he regained consciousness,” Fu Tingyue said flatly.
Chen Yanzhi gasped, looking at Fu Tingyue with concern. “Do you have ruts too? Will you be influenced by other people?” Is that why Fu Tingyue was in such a hurry to lead me away? Was he afraid of losing control?
Fu Tingyue stared into Chen Yanzhi’s worried eyes, and a relaxed smile appeared on his face. “I won’t be influenced by others.”
He was an SS-grade Alpha, it was true. But Fu Tingyue firmly believed that he would only ever be influenced by Chen Yanzhi.
