- Chapter 4 - I Was Worried About You
Chen Yanzhi hadn’t eaten anything good for over a month, and after gorging himself on delicacies, his stomach started to act up.
Fu Tingyue called a family doctor to examine him. The diagnosis was simple: Chen Yanzhi was too weak to handle such a rich feast all at once. His digestive system needed time to adjust; jumping from starvation to a banquet was more than his body could take.
Having just finished vomiting, Chen Yanzhi looked exhausted. His brows were slightly furrowed, and his beautiful face was a sickly pale color, giving him a fragile, vulnerable appearance. Fu Tingyue held him by his slender waist, the two of them so close they could smell each other’s shampoo.
But Chen Yanzhi was too miserable to care. His limbs felt soft and powerless; he didn’t have the energy to mind the proximity.
Fu Tingyue helped him sit on the sofa and fed him medicine followed by a glass of warm water. His brows remained tightly knit, a trace of self-reproach hidden deep in his eyes.
Seeing that expression, Chen Yanzhi couldn’t help but offer some comfort. “It’s fine. I’ll be okay after I rest for a bit.”
He hadn’t expected this body to be quite so frail. Had he known, he would have eaten less.
Fu Tingyue asked, “Do you still feel like throwing up?”
Chen Yanzhi shook his head weakly. The nausea had passed, but he felt completely drained of strength.
Fu Tingyue pulled a blanket over him, his face full of concern. “Do you want to go to the bedroom to rest?”
The nearby servants couldn’t help but exchange glances at the scene. Since surviving a near-death experience a month ago, the Eldest Young Master had become colder than ever, treating everyone with an icy indifference. This was the first time they had seen him speak to anyone so tenderly.
Was this Beta someone the Young Master loved? They had never heard of such a person before—especially not an orphan with no background or status.
Fu Tingyue ignored the staff. Once Chen Yanzhi nodded, he helped him up and guided him upstairs. If he hadn’t been afraid of making Chen Yanzhi angry, he would have just carried him.
Back home, Chen Yanzhi rarely got sick. He loved running around outside, so he was naturally fit. But this body had suffered years of malnutrition and lived in a damp, dark basement; it was no match for his original one.
Fu Tingyue settled him into the bedroom next to his own, telling him to come find him or send a message if he needed anything.
Lying on the soft, large bed with an expensive silk duvet over him, Chen Yanzhi felt much better. He peeked out from under the covers at Fu Tingyue. “When did you become such a chatterbox?”
“I was worried about you,” Fu Tingyue said, standing by the bed with a worried look. “I’ll take you for a full physical later. If this body has any underlying illnesses, we need to treat them early.”
Mentioning this sparked Chen Yanzhi’s interest. His tired eyes widened. “Do you know how the original owner of your body died?”
Fu Tingyue hooked a chair with his foot and sat down to chat. “He committed suicide by taking sleeping pills. I have all of his memories.”
Chen Yanzhi frowned in confusion. “Why? He was so rich—wasn’t life good?”
“It had something to do with his family,” Fu Tingyue said vaguely before asking, “What about you? How did the owner of your body die?”
“Just a minor illness,” Chen Yanzhi replied. “He couldn’t bear to spend the money on treatment, so it slowly got worse until he was gone. I have his memories, too.”
Fu Tingyue asked anxiously, “Is it fully healed now?” He’d need to hire a nutritionist to help Chen Yanzhi recover; he was far too thin. In their old world, he never would have thrown up like that just from eating.
“I don’t feel anything, so it’s probably fine.” As they talked, Chen Yanzhi’s sleepiness vanished. He sat up. “Do you think we’re in a parallel world? Do you think those two might have been reborn into our old bodies?”
Fu Tingyue tucked the duvet around him again. “It’s possible.”
Chen Yanzhi looked distressed. “We fell from such a height. Do you think we’re disfigured?” Even if this body was weak, it was at least intact. If those two woke up in mangled bodies, that would be a terrible deal.
Fu Tingyue shook his head. “I don’t know. Let’s hope they’re lucky.”
Chen Yanzhi sighed, his face drooping as he looked at his hands. “Will they take care of our parents for us? If my mom finds out I’m gone, she’ll be devastated.”
Fu Tingyue didn’t know how to answer. He was just as lost.
Chen Yanzhi asked again, “Can we ever go back?” He didn’t want to stay in a world where men could have babies. He wanted to go home.
Originally, Chen Yanzhi had planned to find a girlfriend after starting university just to show her off to Fu Tingyue. He wanted to win at something, since a “stiff” personality like Fu Tingyue’s would surely have trouble finding a date. Who could have guessed he’d be gone before even receiving his admission letter? It was a tragedy; he’d only lived a fifth of his life.
Fu Tingyue patted him through the duvet to comfort him. “Don’t think too much for now. Maybe we’ll wake up and be back home.”
Chen Yanzhi scoffed. “Don’t lie to me. I’m not a kid.” If waking up could take them back, they would have been home long ago. He had even thought about suicide before, but the fear of actually dying for good stopped him.
Fu Tingyue didn’t argue. He looked into Chen Yanzhi’s beautiful eyes and promised, “I’ll always stay with you. Don’t be afraid.”
Chen Yanzhi glanced at him and looked out the window with a trace of resentment. “I’m not afraid. I just miss my parents.” And the university he never attended, and the girlfriend he never had.
Fu Tingyue comforted him for a few more moments before warning him sternly, “Zhizhi, never tell anyone else that we aren’t the original owners. It will only cause trouble.”
Chen Yanzhi joked, “Haha, I already almost got sent to a mental hospital.”
Fu Tingyue sighed. “You can’t tell anyone else from now on.”
Waking up in a strange world with no one familiar around, Chen Yanzhi must have been terrified. Since they were kids, Chen Yanzhi had a habit of over-explaining himself whenever he was anxious; Fu Tingyue had guessed he might have tried to tell someone the truth.
Chen Yanzhi gave an “OK” sign, surprisingly not arguing for once. Back home, he would have countered every word Fu Tingyue said, but here, he subconsciously viewed him as his only anchor.
Fu Tingyue smiled at how well-behaved he was being. “Rest for a while. If you still feel bad, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Instead of resting, Chen Yanzhi asked curiously, “How old are you now?” This body was two years older than his original one, turning twenty at the end of the year. He assumed Fu Tingyue was the same.
To his shock, Fu Tingyue said, “Twenty-two.”
Chen Yanzhi bolted upright in bed, slamming his fist against the mattress. “How is that fair?! I’m only two years older, but you’re four years older?”
They were originally the same age—Fu Tingyue was only six months older. To suddenly be two years younger felt like a personal insult. Better family, more height, and now even a “head start” on age—he was truly about to lose his mind.
“Isn’t being young a good thing?” A smile played on Fu Tingyue’s more mature face. “You wanted to go back to school; twenty is perfect.”
Chen Yanzhi grumbled, “That’s not the point. We’re supposed to be the same age…”
Back home, when his parents told him to call Fu Tingyue “Brother,” he could use their same age as an excuse. Now what? Fu Tingyue was a solid two years older. No wonder he looked so much more mature than before.
Fu Tingyue shook his head. “Alright, rest. We’ll talk when you wake up.”
Chen Yanzhi slumped back into the duvet, turning his back to Fu Tingyue in a huff. Perhaps the medicine was kicking in, because he fell asleep shortly after.
Fu Tingyue sat by the bed for a while. Once Chen Yanzhi was sound asleep, he gently turned him over and stroked his pale cheek. His eyes were full of relief. Thank goodness I found you, Zhizhi.
When Chen Yanzhi woke up, Fu Tingyue wasn’t there. He lay in bed staring at the luxurious ceiling for a moment. Once he remembered the reunion, he sat up and climbed out of bed to move around. He didn’t feel nauseous anymore.
He grabbed his phone and went to knock on Fu Tingyue’s door, but there was no answer. A passing servant smiled and told him, “The Eldest Young Master is in the study.”
As Chen Yanzhi was about to ask where that was, Fu Tingyue opened a door and waved him over. “Zhizhi, over here.”
Chen Yanzhi jogged over and whispered behind his hand, “Could you not call me that? It’s embarrassing. People will get the wrong idea.” This world was already weird enough; Fu Tingyue bringing him home was suspicious enough without the pet names.
Once they were inside, Fu Tingyue locked the door. “Then should I call you Xiao Chen?”
Chen Yanzhi rolled his eyes. “People will think I’m your servant.”
Fu Tingyue suppressed a laugh. “So?”
“Whatever,” Chen Yanzhi clicked his tongue. “Call me what you want, but not ‘Zhizhi’ in front of others. It’s too sappy.”
Fu Tingyue smiled. To him, he was family.
Chen Yanzhi punched him lightly in the chest. “Did you hear me?”
Fu Tingyue pulled out a chair for him and answered obediently, “I heard you. I’ll call you ‘Young Master Chen’ in public.”
Chen Yanzhi burst out laughing. “You’re crazy.”
Fu Tingyue fought back the urge to kiss him and sat across from him. Seeing him typing away, Chen Yanzhi asked, “What are you doing?”
“Work. I’m managing the family company.”
“Then why did you call me in here? To watch you work?” Chen Yanzhi leaned on the desk, boredly playing with a desk ornament. “I’m bored to death.”
“I wanted to check if you were still feeling unwell,” Fu Tingyue said, handing him a Rubik’s Cube from a drawer.
Chen Yanzhi solved it in seconds. “I’m fine. It was just an upset stomach, not a major disease.”
Fu Tingyue sighed in relief. “You’re too thin. I’m worried about complications.”
“Stop worrying so much. You’re already older, don’t age yourself even faster.”
Fu Tingyue didn’t argue. Instead, he said, “I’ll take you out to play once I’m done with this.”
Chen Yanzhi leaned forward, his watery eyes fixed on Fu Tingyue. “Fu Tingyue, are you a Beta like me?”
Fu Tingyue’s hands paused on the keyboard. He replied calmly, “I am an Alpha. SS-grade.”
