- Chapter 6.2 - The Parents Have Been Summoned
“Very good. I have things to do today, so I will be leaving now. I’ll come back when I have more time.”
Shu Yueqing smiled and nodded to the principal, preparing to leave.
“Ah, very well. Take care, President Shu. Oh, by the way, next week is our school’s opening ceremony. I wonder if President Shu might have time to grace us with her presence?”
Having finally encountered such an opportunity to meet, the principal hurriedly put down the thick file and chased after her with the question.
Shu Yueqing’s footsteps paused, and she pursed her lips almost imperceptibly. Since she was a child, she had been quite impatient with such things.
“If I have time, I will come. Please stay, Principal.”
Shu Yueqing really didn’t want to deal with these teachers and principals anymore. She had been fed up with them since she was a student, and it remained the same now.
This time, the principal was quite perceptive; he didn’t see her out himself, but instead asked Wenren Heyu to help escort her.
Wenren Heyu wasn’t just an ordinary high school teacher. He and Shu Yueqing had known each other since childhood and had always had a good relationship. It was just that later, Wenren Heyu had a falling out with his family over his choice of profession; he didn’t want to inherit the family estate and simply ran off to Shengguan Middle School to be a teacher in a fit of pique.
“Shen Junfu, you go back first. Attend class properly and no sleeping.”
As soon as Wenren Heyu left the Principal’s office, he waved Shen Junfu away with disdain, driving him back.
Shen Junfu gave Shu Yueqing a resentful look, rolled his eyes at Wenren Heyu, and turned to go back to the classroom.
“Yueqing, you are just too indulgent with that little girl Shen Junfu.”
Wenren Heyu advised Shu Yueqing with earnest words, strongly disapproving of her completely “free-range” style of parenting.
Shu Yueqing didn’t take it to heart. “I am simply letting her choose the life she wants to live. Why? Does the boy who slays the dragon eventually become the dragon? Are you going to turn around and oppress the next generation with the same pressure we endured back then?”
“I am not. I just feel that you still haven’t moved on from that incident years ago. Shen Junfu has been with you for nearly ten years; by indulging her like this, you will only harm her. Even if you don’t think for yourself, you should think for the child.”
Perhaps Wenren Heyu had grown accustomed to being a teacher; when he encountered such a situation, he couldn’t help but speak up.
“It’s your view that is too one-sided. I’ll say it again: I never got stuck in that incident back then. Stop looking at me with that gaze; this is the last time. If I see you looking like that again, I’ll tear your whole face off and sew it onto a donkey’s head.”
Shu Yueqing felt as if she couldn’t make herself understood. If that incident happened to anyone else, wouldn’t it have passed after all these years? It was just these people, one after another, who insisted on believing she was such a sentimental person.
“Tell Shen Junfu that I’ll come to pick her up this afternoon.” Pushing Wenren Heyu away from her side, Shu Yueqing couldn’t be bothered to say anything more. She opened her sun umbrella and walked out alone.
“Today? So that day has come again.”
Watching Shu Yueqing’s back, Wenren Heyu couldn’t help but sigh with emotion. Then, remembering Shu Yueqing’s threat, his whole body shuddered, and he immediately retracted his expression.
When Shen Junfu returned to the classroom, he looked relaxed, as if nothing had happened.
“Shen Junfu, what did the teacher say to you just now?” Some nearby students looked over curiously. Although they had guessed that Shen Junfu wouldn’t be affected much even if his parent came, they hadn’t expected him to return so quickly and easily.
“What else could they say? They told me to be careful when climbing the wall next time and not to crush the flowers and grass.”
With a spread of his hands, Shen Junfu spoke nonsense. He didn’t feel he had any obligation to satisfy these people’s gossipy curiosity.
Sitting right next to Shen Junfu, Huo Qingzhuo could tell at a glance that Shen Junfu was playing with them, but it was true that nothing major had happened.
Just as Huo Qingzhuo was about to ask Shen Junfu what to eat for lunch, she suddenly felt her vision go black, and immediately following that, she seemed to have entered a world of pure darkness.
“Where is this? 007, are you still there?”
Suddenly entering a strange environment would make anyone lose their composure, but Huo Qingzhuo had clearly faced this situation before. She was somewhat steady and remembered to ask 007.
“I’m here, host. Our situation doesn’t look good. This should belong to a mental realm field; we might have even detached from the main body. This is a very dangerous signal.”
007 had only seen such a situation in past databases; facing it for the first time, it was more than a little apprehensive.
As Huo Qingzhuo and 007 huddled together for warmth, a light slowly dawned in the pure black space, but it only illuminated a small area.
007 and Huo Qingzhuo both turned their gaze toward that small light source. Just as the two of them were watching intently and guessing, a person suddenly appeared within that light.
“A ghost!”
“A ghost!”
Seeing the person with disheveled hair and spots of blood on their white clothes, combined with this classic horror movie setting, 007 and Huo Qingzhuo screamed instantly.
“What is a machine system like you afraid of ghosts for?”
Halfway through their screaming, Huo Qingzhuo remembered a crucial question.
“I…” 007 didn’t know what it was screaming for, but it seemed like it should scream. To salvage its dignity as a system, it simply turned the tables. “Then are you afraid of ghosts? What are you yelling for?”
“I’m not afraid, but it seems like a normal person should have this reaction when seeing a ghost. I just have a bit too much drama.”
After the human and system finished their self-reflection, they turned their attention to the person who had appeared out of thin air.
Having been ignored by these two neurotics for so long, the “ghost” was nearly dying of anger.
“Enough! Are you two finished yet?” With a voice identical to Huo Qingzhuo’s, the person looked up. She actually looked exactly like Huo Qingzhuo, except her expression was much more gloomy than Huo Qingzhuo’s.
At this moment, it was as if a bolt of lightning struck Huo Qingzhuo’s brain, briefly giving her an epiphany. “You are the original host?”
“Is it that hard to see?” Brushing away the obstructing hair, the original “Huo Qingzhuo” pressed closer, staring intently at Huo Qingzhuo.
“You came to replace me, why? Why is your relationship with Shen Junfu so good? Do you not know what she did to me? Open your eyes and look closely now—can you not see my end?”
The original host grabbed Huo Qingzhuo’s collar, shaking her violently, her voice growing louder and louder.
“Okay, okay, okay, I get it. Stop shaking, you’re making me dizzy.”
It was the first time Huo Qingzhuo realized that even as a soul, she could still feel dizzy.
“You know, and yet you’re still courting death.” The original host was almost despairing as she looked at this other person who looked exactly like herself.
While both sides were at a standoff, 007 finally figured out the problem.
“This should be a residual consciousness of the original host. Because the original host’s resentment is too great and her obsession is too deep, this situation has formed. We should still be inside Huo Qingzhuo’s brain right now.”
“Then how should we solve the current situation?” Huo Qingzhuo hadn’t expected such a development.
“There is no other way except to help the original host soothe her anger and let her dissipate on her own. As for other methods, they all carry the risk of trouble; I don’t suggest trying them.”
007 had guided many hosts, but someone like the current one who could run into all sorts of bizarre things was rare.
The original host also heard 007’s words, which was exactly her purpose.
Huo Qingzhuo sensed the other’s intent and simply went straight to the point.
“What exactly are your resentment and obsession?” Huo Qingzhuo could more or less guess.
“Make Shen Junfu pay the price. Make her suffer a living death in my place. She took my life—how can such a thing be treated as if it never happened?”
As she reached the end, the original host’s emotions became more agitated, and even the surrounding pure black space began to vibrate faintly.
“Hurry up and agree to appease her, otherwise we’re all going to be finished here.”
007 became like an ant on a hot pan. After finally surviving the plot correction, how could it die at the hands of the original host’s resentment?
