- Chapter 13 - Special-Grade System
Huo Qingzhuo glanced at Shen Junfu, who was still full of vigor, and sincerely felt that this person’s “protagonist halo” might have been added to the wrong attributes.
She still took Shen Junfu to the infirmary and sat by while the doctor performed an examination. There was nothing serious—just a few abrasions. The doctor gave them a bottle of medicinal liquid and told them to apply it themselves after returning.
“See, I told you, it’s no big deal. There’s no need to even take this medicine. Let’s go.” Shen Junfu stood up gallantly, waving a hand dismissively.
Huo Qingzhuo rolled her eyes. After thanking the doctor, she picked up the medicine anyway and followed the fast-walking Shen Junfu.
“Take it yourself. Your elbow is scraped; you should apply some to disinfect it, or watch out for tetanus.” Shoving the medicine directly into Shen Junfu’s hand, Huo Qingzhuo didn’t care to nag further and planned to head back to the classroom for lessons.
Shen Junfu paused with the medicine in hand and called out to Huo Qingzhuo, who was walking ahead. “Hey, Huo Qingzhuo, can I discuss something with you?”
“Speak.” Stopping her pace, Huo Qingzhuo didn’t even turn her head. She assumed Shen Junfu was looking for a new way to cause trouble.
Catching up in two steps, Shen Junfu placed a hand on Huo Qingzhuo’s shoulder. “I’ve realized you’re actually a decent person. How about this: you promise to stay away from Shu Yueqing, and we’ll be friends. I’ll sincerely befriend you. What do you say?”
Shen Junfu spoke seriously to herself, failing to notice that the look Huo Qingzhuo gave her was exactly like one would give a mentally challenged child.
Brushing Shen Junfu’s hand off her shoulder, Huo Qingzhuo spread her hands casually. “Impossible. I don’t lack friends; what I lack is a girlfriend.”
“Huh?” Shen Junfu had never been rejected like this in her life. Looking at Huo Qingzhuo’s retreating back, she shouted in exasperation, “Well, if that’s how it is, I’ll just go back to being your girlfriend! You stay away from her!”
“You? You’ve already been eliminated. Give it a rest.”
Without stopping, Huo Qingzhuo waved a hand behind her. She found Shen Junfu’s childish, “playing house” idea of getting together so casually to be almost laughable.
“Huo Qingzhuo! I gave you face and you threw it away!”
Looking at the medicine bottle in her hand, Shen Junfu suddenly felt like a complete idiot. She threw the bottle away and stomped off in the opposite direction. If she ever felt soft-hearted toward Huo Qingzhuo again, she’d be a dog! She’d take Huo Qingzhuo’s last name!
Unaware of Shen Junfu’s current thoughts, Huo Qingzhuo returned to the classroom and quietly attended evening self-study.
By the time self-study ended, Huo Qingzhuo still hadn’t seen a sign of Shen Junfu. She guessed the other girl had climbed over a wall and wandered off somewhere again. She simply ignored it and returned to the dormitory with Wei Qingqing.
Just after washing up and getting into bed, before Huo Qingzhuo could close her eyes, she felt her consciousness flicker. When she regained her focus, she found that Wei Qingqing, who had been organizing clothes in the dorm, was gone. The entire dormitory and the hallway outside were terrifyingly silent; every noisy sound had completely vanished.
Clutching her blanket, Huo Qingzhuo grew tense. She had no idea what was happening.
“Host, I am back.” A snow-white pigeon flew into the dormitory from the window. It spoke in a human tongue as it landed in front of Huo Qingzhuo.
“007? Am I dreaming?” Looking incredulously at the transformed 007, Huo Qingzhuo tapped her head, wondering if she had slept herself into a stupor.
The pigeon flew onto Huo Qingzhuo’s hand. “Host, please do not doubt the reality of the system. I am 007. I returned to headquarters to seek reinforcements. This time, the problem is significant. Headquarters has specially dispatched a Special-Grade System to assist in handling it. A Special-Grade System is the highest level of system; once it takes action, there will surely be no issues.”
Knock, knock!
Just as 007 finished speaking, two knocks sounded at the door. Then, a youth wearing a white robe embroidered with gold patterns walked in. His appearance was so exquisite he didn’t seem mortal.
“Huo Qingzhuo? Hello. I am the system, Ling. I have come to assist you in handling the issues.”
The youth’s eyes held a steadiness and composure that didn’t match his youthful appearance. He gave Huo Qingzhuo a polite greeting.
Huo Qingzhuo glanced at 007, then at the youth. “What is going on now?”
“This is a prerogative of the Special-Grade System. This entire slice of space-time is under absolute stasis and is secure, making it convenient to handle business,” 007 explained enthusiastically from the side.
“Let us get to the main business first.” Ling reached out and lightly tapped Huo Qingzhuo’s forehead. In the next second, the original soul was extracted from Huo Qingzhuo’s mind and stood before them. Wearing clean clothes and looking tidy, she appeared just as she had when she was alive.
“Both of you are Huo Qingzhuo, yet you are not quite the same. You do not belong to the same world. It is time for you to go.” The youth looked at the original soul. His voice was gentle, but his actions were swift. As soon as he spoke, the original soul’s body became transparent and then vanished before Huo Qingzhuo, without even having time to say a word.
“This?” Although Huo Qingzhuo was glad the original soul had finally left, this mysterious way of vanishing made her heart skip a beat.
“Do not worry. Her world also experienced some deviations and loopholes. She will be reborn, and we will give her the most reasonable arrangement. You do not need to worry.”
The youth could see Huo Qingzhuo’s concerns and offered an explanation.
“Then what about me now?” Regarding this youth, Huo Qingzhuo felt an unfathomable depth.
“Your world belongs to a parallel plane of the Main Plane. It is a small fragment that fell away because the Main Plane was attacked. As for the reason the Main Plane was attacked, we are still investigating. For the time being, this lost corner will not be subject to any regulatory management. This includes our 007 system, which will enter hibernation until the day the truth is uncovered.”
The youth held out his hand, and the heartless 007 flew away from Huo Qingzhuo to land on his hand. “As for your unauthorized modification of system data, we will discuss that next time. Do you have anything else to ask?”
“The things I want to ask are far too many. Will you actually answer them?” Huo Qingzhuo didn’t believe the youth in front of her would truly reveal everything to her.
“Then pick something you think I can answer. Ask something beneficial to yourself, something useful for your future. Do not probe too deeply; due to authority restrictions, I certainly cannot answer all your questions.” The youth was quite honest.
“Then what are the winning numbers for the next lottery? Preferably one that wins tens of millions.” Huo Qingzhuo spoke without thinking.
The youth: “…” Goodbye.
“Just a joke,” seeing the youth actually about to leave, Huo Qingzhuo quickly changed her tune. “I will stay in this world forever, right?”
“Yes,” the youth turned back. “Until the very end. Cherish it well.”
With that, the youth stayed no longer. Holding 007 in his hand, he slowly vanished. The frozen surroundings and the disappeared reality began to slowly restore themselves.
“Until the end of what? Explain yourself clearly!” Seeing the youth’s vanishing figure, Huo Qingzhuo hurriedly tried to get out of bed to chase him and ask for clarification.
“Who needs to explain clearly? Qingzhuo, who are you talking to?”
Wei Qingqing, who was organizing clothes, looked at the strange Huo Qingzhuo.
The youth’s figure had completely vanished. Wei Qingqing’s voice pulled Huo Qingzhuo back to the real world.
“That… maybe I just dozed off and had a nightmare. It’s nothing.” Unwillingly glancing toward the direction where the youth had vanished outside the door, Huo Qingzhuo lay back on the bed and pulled up the covers.
Forget it. Anyway, she was someone who had already died once. Since she could stay here, no matter how long the time was, her plans wouldn’t change.
The original soul returned to her own plane, the system had gone into hibernation, and the plot correction was gone. Thinking of these things, Huo Qingzhuo lay down comfortably and fell into a good sleep.
On the other side, the departed youth, Ling, and 007 stood in the familiar space-time transfer station. 007 bit its feathers. “Boss, don’t we already know how to patch this lost plane fragment back? Why not patch it back first?”
The youth’s fingers, white as jade, stroked 007’s feathers. His compassionate gaze was like that of a deity. “Some broken fragments are lost so that there may one day be a reunion and wholeness. That day will eventually come. Why should we pull at the sprouts to help them grow? Sleep. You should also take a good rest…”
