After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 5
Chu Ling slept soundly and woke to find the sun already slanting westward, it seemed she had slept quite late.
Two whole hours of sleep, what a luxury. In her past life, she would never have dared to believe it.
She stared blankly at the unfamiliar vines overhead for a while before her brain finally booted up. Stretching lazily, she felt her entire body melt into relaxation, a pleasant softness settling into her bones. Then her stomach growled loudly, rudely reminding her that she hadn’t eaten.
Once that realization hit, the hunger pangs struck in waves, so intense they almost made her nauseous. Rubbing her belly, she rose from the cozy hammock, ready to hunt for food only to turn and find Song Qingyi standing by the door, watching her.
Chu Ling froze.
Huh? When did Song Qingyi come back? How long had she been standing there? Did she just witness that whole stretch-and-growling-stomach routine?
Ughhh, this was too much! So embarrassing!
Normally, stretching and a rumbling stomach wouldn’t be a big deal, just human nature. But that was only if she thought she was alone at home!
Even if her two moms had seen it, Chu Ling wouldn’t have cared. But of all people, it had to be Song Qingyi.
Summoning every ounce of her acting skills, Chu Ling forced herself to stay calm and flashed Song Qingyi a bright smile.
“You’re back!”
Uncharacteristically, Song Qingyi didn’t respond immediately. Chu Ling fidgeted awkwardly, fingers twisting together, wondering if she had overstepped. After all, this was Song Qingyi’s home, and her greeting sounded like she was acting like the lady of the house.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, her stomach growled again.
In the dead silence, the sound was deafening.
Chu Ling: “…”
Great. Another layer of humiliation.
At least the awkward tension finally broke. Song Qingyi finally spoke, though her gaze was oddly sharp.
“You haven’t eaten anything yet?”
Chu Ling shook her head guiltily and hurried to explain, “I was going to, but the hammock was so comfortable, I just fell asleep.”
Song Qingyi seemed speechless or at least, Chu Ling thought so. She wasn’t entirely sure, but she found it fascinating either way.
From the moment they met, Song Qingyi had shown almost no change in expression, her emotions always steady.
So was the obsessive villain from the novel really the same Song Qingyi? She didn’t seem anything like the person Chu Ling was seeing now.
Her thoughts had wandered again, and by the time she snapped back to reality, Song Qingyi was already walking away. Chu Ling quickly followed, only to realize Song Qingyi was heading straight for the kitchen.
Chu Ling was stunned. Peeking through the doorway, she blurted out, “You can cook, Song Qingyi?”
Song Qingyi moved with practiced efficiency, clearly no stranger to the kitchen.
She gave a nonchalant hum in response.
Chu Ling’s eyes sparkled with amazement, as if she had stumbled upon some grand discovery. After watching for a while, she suddenly remembered she should offer to help and hesitantly stepped forward.
“Is there, anything I can do?”
Instead of refusing, Song Qingyi handed her a head of cabbage. “Wash and prep this.”
Relieved, Chu Ling took the cabbage and began carefully separating the leaves.
Eating for free didn’t feel right, but fortunately Song Qingyi didn’t refuse her offer to help and even assigned her only simple tasks. Song Qingyi was really such a kind person!
The reason for saying this was that although Chu Ling lived alone, she had absolutely no talent for cooking. The things she made could barely be considered edible utterly flavorless, just enough to keep her alive.
So when she asked Song Qingyi, she hesitated, worried that if Song Qingyi asked her to cook, she’d end up embarrassing herself again.
In that moment, Chu Ling instinctively didn’t want Song Qingyi to find out she was a complete disaster in the kitchen.
Luckily, Song Qingyi only asked her to assist with minor tasks, sparing her from exposure. Chu Ling relaxed and even found herself enthusiastically picking vegetables.
While busy with her own tasks, Song Qingyi kept an eye on Chu Ling from the corner of her vision. Seeing her in good spirits, a faint smile flickered in her eyes.
By the time the rice cooker chimed, Song Qingyi had just finished preparing the dishes, perfect timing.
The dishes on the table looked incredibly appetizing, a feast for the eyes and nose. The restrained hunger Chu Ling had been suppressing surged back with a vengeance.
After sitting down at the table, Chu Ling didn’t immediately pick up her chopsticks. Instead, she stared eagerly toward the kitchen, Song Qingyi hadn’t come out yet.
When Song Qingyi finally emerged, she immediately noticed Chu Ling’s expectant expression. Her fingers twitched slightly, and she rubbed her fingertips, suppressing the emotions in her heart.
“Go ahead, aren’t you hungry?”
So Chu Ling finally picked up her chopsticks and eagerly took a bite. The flavors instantly captivated her taste buds, it was so delicious she felt like swallowing her own tongue.
It was seriously so good it could make her cry!
Tears welling in her eyes, Chu Ling looked at Song Qingyi. “Song Qingyi, you’re amazing! It’s so delicious, you should eat too!”
Song Qingyi gave a soft hum in response, but her eating pace remained leisurely, as if she weren’t hungry at all.
Chu Ling marveled beautiful people really did eat with such grace.
However, Chu Ling, ravenous as she was, couldn’t be bothered with maintaining any semblance of decorum. Her attention was wholly devoted to the food, stuffing her mouth full with every bite, her eyes squinting in bliss.
So she didn’t notice the occasional glances Song Qingyi sent her way.
A trace of satisfaction flickered in Song Qingyi’s eyes. Since Chu Ling’s attention wasn’t on her, she could allow herself to indulge in her emotions a little more freely.
Watching Chu Ling eat with such gusto, showering her with praise between bites, Song Qingyi felt an unprecedented sense of joy.
Her gaze lingered on Chu Ling bold yet discreet roaming over her fluffy head, her puffed-up cheeks, and her delighted expression in a repetitive cycle. She took an occasional bite, but most of the time, she was just watching her.
So cute, like a little hamster.
Song Qingyi felt a pang of regret. If only she could touch her.
And so, the entire meal became a scene of Chu Ling devouring her food while Song Qingyi watched her do so with equal relish.
Both were perfectly content.
After the meal, Chu Ling conscientiously gathered the dishes and headed to the kitchen to wash them, only to find Song Qingyi following her in. Quickly, she said, “I’ll wash the dishes. Since you cooked, it’s only fair that I clean up.”
Song Qingyi gave a slight nod and gestured to the side. “There’s a dishwasher, just put them in there.”
Chu Ling’s gaze froze.
So she’d misunderstood! She thought Song Qingyi had followed her in to wash the dishes, but it turned out she was just reminding her about the dishwasher.
Chu Ling felt a wave of restlessness, her face flushing slightly as she mumbled, “O-okay, got it. I’ll do it!”
Annoyed, she didn’t notice the amusement in Song Qingyi’s eyes, only feeling that in their few encounters, she had been constantly embarrassing herself.
No way, Chu Ling! Even though Song Qingyi is beautiful, cooks well, and seems like the perfect partner in every way, remember you’re just contractual partners! Developing feelings goes against her personal principles!
After mentally steeling herself, Chu Ling steadied her thoughts, only to turn and find Song Qingyi still standing there.
Chu Ling blinked in confusion.
“It’s still early. Want to go out?” Song Qingyi suggested.
“Go out? For what?” Chu Ling asked, puzzled.
Song Qingyi remained calm. “There are some things we need to buy. Since we’ll be living together, your input matters too.”
Scratching her head, Chu Ling agreed. “Alright then. Where to?”
After a moment’s thought, Song Qingyi replied, “There’s a mall nearby with everything we need. Let’s go there.”
Chu Ling nodded. “Sure, let’s go now.”
With something to do, her earlier thoughts quickly scattered.
“No rush. First, check what else you need so we can get everything at once.”
That made sense. She had only brought one suitcase and realized she was missing quite a few daily essentials.
Chu Ling tapped her head. “Yeah, I’m missing a lot. My memory’s terrible.”
And so, they headed to the mall.
The nearby department store was large and well-stocked.
Chu Ling planned to go straight to the supermarket and was about to suggest splitting up when she saw Song Qingyi pushing a shopping cart toward her, quietly asking, “Not coming?”
Well, shopping together wasn’t so bad.
She had assumed Song Qingyi would prefer to go alone, but here they were, an entirely new experience. Chu Ling never imagined she’d be grocery shopping with the blogger she admired.
It almost felt like they were a real couple.
“Which style and color do you want?” Song Qingyi pointed at the toothbrush cups on the shelf, asking casually.
Snapping back to reality, Chu Ling hesitated before finally deciding. “This one.”
Song Qingyi nodded. “Okay,” then placed two into the cart.
Chu Ling glanced at her. “Song Qingyi, you took two.”
Song Qingyi hummed in acknowledgment. “I need one too. Didn’t feel like picking.”
In other words, she took identical ones simply because she didn’t want to choose.
Chu Ling understood and didn’t dwell on it. From then on, for every daily item towels, bath towels, etc. Song Qingyi took two.
Passing the bedding section, Song Qingyi glanced over and casually remarked, “Let’s get two extra sets. We don’t have spares at home.”
So Chu Ling turned, and they headed to the home goods area.
The spacious section was nearly empty, quiet and serene.
Rows of bedding sets were displayed, with a few made-up beds as samples.
Chu Ling immediately spotted one sky blue, fresh and elegant, a perfect match for Song Qingyi.
“How about this set?”
Song Qingyi glanced at it and said, “Not bad, do you like it?”
Chu Ling was taken aback and replied somewhat sheepishly, “I think it suits you well.”
Song Qingyi’s expression softened. “I think that set over there is quite lovely too.”
Chu Ling looked over and saw a rather adorable style, a bedspread covered in little cats in various playful poses.
Who would have thought Song Qingyi liked such cute designs!
This completely overturned Chu Ling’s perception of her.
As they were talking, the salesperson nearby glanced between them and said with a smile, “Why not get one of each? Our bedding sets are high-quality and very comfortable to sleep on. Why don’t you both lie down and try them out?”
Lie down and try them.
That was not a good idea! Just as Chu Ling was about to wave her hands in refusal, she noticed the person beside her move, the next second, Song Qingyi had already laid down on the bed.
Before Chu Ling could even react in surprise, she saw Song Qingyi tilt her head to look at her. Though she didn’t speak, her eyes seemed to say
“Aren’t you going to try it too?”
