After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 4
Chu Ling never expected that her attempt to temporarily avoid a meeting between both parties to prevent complicating matters further would backfire so spectacularly. Now, completely unprepared, they had run into each other anyway!
The situation was bordering on absurd. Her mind raced, desperately searching for a plausible explanation. Otherwise, there was no way to justify why she had gone on a blind date with someone yesterday and was now moving in with them today.
Her intense focus had an unintended consequence, all three women noticed her evasive gaze and the faint panic in her expression.
Qiao Wan’s gentle smile deepened with knowing amusement. The initial surprise had passed, and now she remembered, of course she recognized this girl.
And she truly hadn’t anticipated that the roommate Chu Ling mentioned would turn out to be her. The situation had instantly become delicate.
Her poor Lingling was now racking her brains trying to figure out how to smooth things over.
Chu Tong couldn’t bear to watch and averted her eyes, still baffled by how her daughter could be so naive.
But then again,
Young people’s problems should be left to young people to solve.
Chu Tong considered herself an open-minded parent. Unless it involved breaking the law or reckless behavior, she was generally quite lenient.
Not wanting to witness her daughter’s floundering any longer, she turned to Qiao Wan. “Ah Wan, they’re calling us over. Let’s go.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Chu Ling and, as expected, saw her daughter’s face light up with relief. She snorted inwardly still too green.
Qiao Wan pressed her lips together in a quiet laugh, nodding in silent agreement. Then, with an apologetic pat on Chu Ling’s head, she said, “Lingling, your mother and I have some business to attend to. Will you be alright on your own?”
Chu Ling nodded eagerly. “Of course! I told you both to go ahead earlier bringing me here was just wasting your time, right? Go on, I don’t have much stuff anyway. No need to help.”
She didn’t dare bring up Song Qingyi, afraid the two might suddenly take an interest and start asking questions. Thankfully, neither mother pressed further.
Qiao Wan nodded. “Take care of yourself, and visit home often.”
Chu Tong tugged at her sleeve. “Why worry so much? She’s not a child anymore. Let’s go, let’s go.”
With that, she waved at both of them. “We’re off.”
Watching the car start and drive away, Chu Ling wiped the sweat from her forehead.
That was close, almost couldn’t talk my way out of that one!
But she was still a little puzzled. Did their mothers not know what Song Qingyi, her blind date, looked like?
Otherwise, why had neither of them reacted at all?
Lost in thought, she didn’t move until the weight in her hands suddenly vanished. By the time she snapped back to reality, all she saw was Song Qingyi’s graceful back as she walked away.
Chu Ling didn’t have time to dwell on it, she hurried after her.
“Sis, uh, I mean, Song Qingyi, I can handle it myself. It’s not much.”
She hadn’t given the earlier incident a second thought.
She’s completely forgotten about it already.
The thought crossed Song Qingyi’s mind, and even the last traces of her smile faded.
Chu Ling sensed something was off Song Qingyi wasn’t responding and seemed upset.
That shouldn’t be the case. Did I do something wrong?
Bewildered, her steps slowed until she had fallen noticeably behind.
“Chu Ling.”
She looked up to see Song Qingyi’s calm gaze fixed on her from ahead. “Stop spacing out. Come inside.”
Oh, they had already arrived. Chu Ling snapped out of her daze and quickly caught up.
The neighborhood where Song Qingyi lived was quite nice, with a layout of two units per floor in her building. She resided on the top floor.
Stepping out of the elevator, Chu Ling felt a bit nervous as she watched Song Qingyi unlock the door. But once inside, her nervousness quickly turned into curiosity.
The place was just too clean almost like a showroom, with very little lived-in atmosphere.
“Song Qingyi, do you not stay here often?”
Song Qingyi’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. “Mm. After the renovation, I aired it out for a while. I only just moved in.”
Chu Ling let out an impressed “Wow.” “A new place, no wonder it feels so untouched.”
Song Qingyi nodded. “Take a look around. Let me know if you need anything.” As she spoke, she wheeled her suitcase into one of the rooms.
“This room is yours. You can decorate it however you like.”
Chu Ling peeked inside. The room was spacious, and with the curtains drawn open, sunlight flooded every corner. She fell in love with it at first sight.
The composition, the colors it was perfect for a photo.
Chu Ling hadn’t been lying when she said she wanted to go out for inspiration. She’d recently joined a photography event small-scale, but great for gaining experience. And now, this scene before her sparked an idea.
Quickly, she pulled out her camera thankfully, she always carried it with her and captured the moment.
Looking at the photo on the camera screen, Chu Ling smiled in satisfaction.
Only then did she remember Song Qingyi was still standing right beside her!
“Sorry, sorry! I just got inspired all of a sudden, so I…”
Chu Ling felt a bit flustered. She didn’t know Song Qingyi well. Even online, Song Qingyi only posted videos and never interacted with fans, coming off as aloof.
Some fans accused her of being pretentious trying to make a living on the internet while acting superior, not even bothering to engage with her audience.
Chu Ling always found such comments ridiculous. Whether or not Song Qingyi was serious about “making a living” online, plenty of creators didn’t reply to fans either.
Maybe Song Qingyi just liked sharing videos nothing more. Why impose expectations on her?
If watching her videos brought joy, wasn’t that enough?
But the truth was, Chu Ling really didn’t know her. In their few encounters, Song Qingyi had indeed been quiet, even a little cold.
Chu Ling worried she might have caused trouble for her.
Time seemed to stretch unbearably as she waited for Song Qingyi’s response. When none came, Chu Ling hesitantly looked up to gauge her reaction.
The prolonged silence made her uneasy, like she was standing on shaky ground.
Her sudden glance caught the remnants of an emotion in Song Qingyi’s eyes displeasure.
Chu Ling fell silent. What now? She’d already managed to upset her on the first day.
“Uh, maybe I should just go back.”
Her voice trailed off as she noticed Song Qingyi’s expression turning even colder.
Oh no. Was even breathing a mistake now?!
Chu Ling didn’t dare say another word.
Song Qingyi averted her gaze. After a pause, she finally spoke. “No need to apologize. This room is yours. I told you, you can do whatever you want here.” She paused, then added, “And, Chu Ling, I hope you remember, we’re married.”
Chu Ling was momentarily bewildered before suddenly realizing. Song Qingyi was reminding her, wasn’t she? Since she had already agreed to the marriage, she had to abide by the contract terms. If she moved out during the marriage, wouldn’t that be a blatant violation of the agreement?
With that, Chu Ling’s gaze also grew resolute. “Don’t worry, I just need a little time to adjust. I’ll adapt soon!”
Song Qingyi looked at her, remaining silent without a word.
Chu Ling suddenly felt nervous. For some reason, she had the impression that Song Qingyi was upset again but why?
This seems a bit tricky, Chu Ling thought to herself.
Fortunately, Song Qingyi ultimately said nothing and was the first to avert her gaze.
Chu Ling relaxed at once, then suddenly thought of a question.
She blinked, looking at Song Qingyi, hesitating over whether to ask.
“Whatever you want to say, go ahead and ask,” Song Qingyi said.
After a pause, Chu Ling finally ventured, “Come to think of it, I never asked why you chose to marry me.”
She smiled sheepishly. “Sorry, I didn’t catch what you said earlier. Could you repeat it? Just to avoid any misunderstandings.”
She figured that since Song Qingyi had gone to the trouble of arranging a marriage of convenience, there must be some unavoidable reason behind it.
Chu Ling cautiously glanced at Song Qingyi and noticed that, inexplicably, she seemed a little happier now. Chu Ling couldn’t help but marvel at how hard this person was to read.
“It’s fine. Since you didn’t hear, let’s leave it at that. In a while, I’ll take you to meet my mother.”
Chu Ling processed this meaning that when they went to see Song Qingyi’s mother, that would be when she’d prove useful!
With a solemn expression, she made her promise: “Alright, I’ll make sure to do well.”
Song Qingyi pressed her lips together and gave a soft “Mm.”
“I have some business to attend to outside. Make yourself at home.”
With that, Song Qingyi helped Chu Ling register her facial recognition and fingerprints into the security system for easy access. Once everything was set up, Song Qingyi left directly.
The spacious house was now empty except for Chu Ling.
She hadn’t brought much luggage, so she quickly finished unpacking. Although Song Qingyi had told her to make herself at home, this was still her house, and it didn’t feel right to be too casual.
Still, Chu Ling took a stroll around the house and was delighted to discover that the top floor connected to an open-air balcony, which had been converted into a sunroom.
Chu Ling’s eyes lit up this kind of decor was absolutely her aesthetic. Happily, she nestled into the hanging chair.
This spot was partially shaded by vines, so even while basking in the sunlight, it wasn’t overly harsh just a comfortably warm temperature.
As the chair swayed gently, the overwhelming comfort gradually lulled Chu Ling into drowsiness, and she drifted off to sleep.
At 3:30 in the afternoon, Song Qingyi absentmindedly took a sip of coffee, wondering why this meeting still hadn’t ended.
“Qingyi, you’re distracted,” the woman across from her remarked coolly.
Only then did Song Qingyi lift her gaze to meet the other’s eyes. “I think there’s nothing left to discuss. I’ve made myself perfectly clear, Mother.”
The woman opposite was dignified and elegant, her imposing presence undiminished even while seated.
Upon closer inspection, Song Qingyi bore some resemblance to her both carried an air of icy detachment.
Click!
The woman set down her cup, her scrutinizing gaze fixed on Song Qingyi.
“I’ll be waiting for the day you regret this.”
The certainty in her words, the woman’s condescending tone, it was as if she wasn’t speaking to her own child, but to a subordinate.
Song Qingyi let out a derisive snort. “That day will never come. Enjoy your meal. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”
With that, Song Qingyi didn’t bother to check the woman’s reaction before standing up and walking away.
Perhaps she wasn’t as composed as she appeared.
Her expression unreadable, Song Qingyi pressed the accelerator, speeding home like the wind.
At this hour, the streets were empty, and the elevator arrived quickly. Yet, just as she reached the door, she hesitated.
Still, she turned the key. The apartment was silent eerily quiet. For a moment, Song Qingyi felt disoriented.
She shut the door behind her and checked every room, but the figure she was looking for was nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t until she stepped onto the balcony and saw the person curled up asleep in the hanging chair that she froze.
It wasn’t an illusion.
Her heart, suddenly, settled into peace.
