After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 29
Fang Manwen had always been the type to revel in drama, her personality downright mischievous. Previously, she had deliberately gotten close to Chu Ling just for fun, successfully earning a dark glare from Song Qingyi.
Back then, she hadn’t known the two were already married, and since it was their first meeting, she hadn’t pushed things too far.
But now?
This was just too amusing.
Qiu Shuang’s friend here was far too easily flustered, just one teasing remark had her blushing like this. She really couldn’t take a joke.
In contrast, Song Qingyi remained completely unruffled, her intimidating aura as sharp as ever. Fang Manwen could feel the piercing gaze fixed on her, but she didn’t care. She continued doing as she pleased.
Chu Ling, on the other hand, was so mortified she could barely stay put. If she lingered any longer, who knew what earth-shattering statements those two might come up with next?
Her heart couldn’t take the strain.
Chu Ling decided that while she couldn’t win, she could at least escape.
So with an overly serious expression, she tugged Song Qingyi up from her seat. “We have something to attend to later. Let’s catch up another day. We won’t interrupt your date any longer, goodbye!”
Preferably a goodbye that meant never seeing them again. She now had a full-blown psychological shadow when it came to these two.
Song Qingyi didn’t resist, gracefully standing and letting Chu Ling pull her away. Her expression was even cheerful, with no trace of the earlier intimidation.
Qiu Shuang watched them go before turning to Fang Manwen with a huff. “Hmph! She was the one who scared me earlier, and now look at her switching moods so fast! Serves her right for scaring me. Let them sort it out themselves. Seems like they’ll be at this for a while.”
Fang Manwen chuckled. “That’s fine. It’s their business, after all. We shouldn’t interfere.”
She said it so earnestly, as if she were the picture of righteousness.
Qiu Shuang shot her a sidelong glance. “Oh, so the one meddling earlier wasn’t you?”
Fang Manwen raised a brow. “I just thought it was interesting.”
Qiu Shuang clicked her tongue and muttered, “Scheming.”
Fang Manwen’s smile didn’t waver, taking it as a compliment.
While those two were enjoying their banter, Chu Ling felt anything but relaxed.
She had pulled Song Qingyi away in a hurry, but now that they were alone, the awkwardness settled in.
The entire way back, she stayed silent, terrified that Song Qingyi might demand an explanation. That would be a true test of her wits she wouldn’t even be able to fabricate something on the spot.
The best strategy was to say nothing!
As long as she kept quiet, the awkwardness couldn’t catch up to her.
She just hoped Song Qingyi had the tact not to ask.
So the two of them walked in silence all the way back to the car. When Song Qingyi started the engine, Chu Ling finally let out a small breath of relief.
Song Qingyi was someone she could get along with at least she didn’t pry!
But the moment that thought crossed her mind, Song Qingyi leisurely called her name.
“Chu Ling.”
Without exaggeration, Chu Ling flinched the second she heard her voice.
“Y-yes?”
She swallowed nervously, bracing herself for whatever came next.
But whether it was intentional or not, Song Qingyi took her sweet time continuing, stretching out the moment like a drawn-out trial. The wait made every second agonizing.
Chu Ling could’ve sworn an hour had passed.
Her patience wore thin, and she nearly blurted out an explanation. But her lips parted and closed again, she still didn’t dare. So she endured the tormenting silence.
“I was just asking if you’re full. You didn’t seem to eat much earlier, would you like to have some more?”
Song Qingyi had enjoyed watching the nervous expression on Chu Ling’s face long enough and finally asked the question.
When Chu Ling heard it, she didn’t react at first then came a wave of pleasant surprise.
Song Qingyi hadn’t asked about that!
She really was the best, such a good person!
Chu Ling wiped her face and realized, now that she thought about it, her stomach did feel a little empty. Recalling the meal, she realized she hadn’t eaten much at all, too preoccupied with Qiushuang and her loose-lipped tendencies.
So she nodded. “I think I am still a bit hungry. Are you not full either? What should we eat?”
Song Qingyi started the car as she replied, “Let’s go to the supermarket and pick up some groceries. The fridge is almost empty.”
Chu Ling nodded. “Sure, and maybe we can grab some snacks too.”
A sudden craving hit her, she missed junk food.
Ever since her stomach issues, she’d been deprived for so long, constantly yearning for it.
As she thought about it, her expression gradually relaxed until Song Qingyi’s voice suddenly cut through the silence.
“So, about what your friend said earlier.”
Chu Ling jolted awake. “Ahh! She was totally talking nonsense! Don’t take it seriously, Song Qingyi. She just loves spouting nonsense, it’s not true at all!”
Chu Ling couldn’t believe it. Wasn’t this topic already over? Why was Song Qingyi circling back now?
Song Qingyi’s gaze turned meaningful. “Oh so it wasn’t true? I thought maybe you were considering turning our fake marriage into something real.”
She said it so casually, yet Chu Ling’s scalp prickled. Words tumbled out of her mouth without thought.
“Of course not! Don’t worry, I’d never think that way. I’d never make things difficult for you. Once the contract period is over, we’ll divorce right away, I won’t cling to you at all!”
Her words were urgent and sincere, as if she was terrified of being tied to Song Qingyi.
At first, Song Qingyi had been happy. Even though the words had come from Chu Ling’s friend, she couldn’t help wondering.
Did Chu Ling feel the same way? Maybe she was just too shy to say it herself, so she let her friend speak for her.
She had clearly understood Qiushuang’s matchmaking intent, it was too blatant to pretend otherwise.
Song Qingyi had been surprised and delighted. Seeing Chu Ling so nervous, she couldn’t resist testing the waters.
But Chu Ling’s rebuttal came too fast, too firm insisting they’d divorce as soon as the contract ended.
So decisive, with no room for reconsideration.
The warmth in Song Qingyi’s chest instantly cooled.
Right. She had hoped for too much.
The car fell into silence so heavy, so suffocating.
Chu Ling opened her mouth, wanting to say something, anything, to break the tension.
But no words came. The atmosphere only grew more strained.
Just as she began to panic, wondering if she’d said something wrong, Song Qingyi finally spoke again.
“Good. That’s for the best.”
Chu Ling’s heart suddenly felt hollow, a pang of loss hitting her. But she quickly pulled herself together and reassured her again. “Yeah, don’t worry. I know my place.”
Song Qingyi glanced at her but said nothing, driving silently toward the supermarket.
When the car stopped, Chu Ling thought they were home, only to realize they weren’t.
Her expression turned puzzled. “Aren’t we going home?”
Song Qingyi said calmly, “Weren’t we going to the supermarket?”
Chu Ling was momentarily speechless. Given the awkward atmosphere between them earlier, she had assumed they’d silently agreed not to go anymore.
Yet unexpectedly, Song Qingyi still brought her along.
Chu Ling couldn’t quite describe how she felt, but there was an inexplicable happiness in her heart.
So, Song Qingyi wasn’t angry after all.
She quickly caught up and cautiously struck up a conversation, “Thank you, Song Qingyi. I thought you were upset earlier.”
Song Qingyi paused mid-step, as if she wanted to say something, but when Chu Ling looked over, she remained silent and continued walking.
Chu Ling scratched her cheek, confused but didn’t press further, simply falling into step beside Song Qingyi.
This was their second time shopping at the supermarket together. Last time, Song Qingyi had inexplicably been in a bad mood by the end, and this time, things had started off on the wrong foot from the very beginning.
Surprisingly, however, Song Qingyi didn’t show any signs of displeasure throughout the trip. The earlier tension seemed like an illusion as the two of them completed their shopping in perfect harmony.
She even picked out some snacks while Chu Ling was choosing hers.
As they pushed the shopping cart toward the parking lot, Chu Ling still couldn’t believe it.
She had been tiptoeing around, carefully weighing every word, afraid of accidentally provoking Song Qingyi only to realize she’d been overpreparing for nothing?
When they got home, Song Qingyi went into the kitchen as usual to prepare dinner. Chu Ling wanted to help but was turned away.
“No need. I want to eat earlier today.”
Chu Ling stared blankly as the kitchen door closed in front of her, Song Qingyi’s words echoing in her mind.
Perhaps, possibly, probably, maybe—
Was she being disliked?
Chu Ling jolted, pacing anxiously back and forth.
Song Qingyi had never treated her like this before. For her to suddenly act this way today, she must still be angry!
This was bad. She’d made Song Qingyi angry again.
Yet after pacing for what felt like ages, even as Song Qingyi finished cooking, she still hadn’t come up with a solution.
At the dinner table, Chu Ling kept stealing glances at Song Qingyi, closely watching her expression.
But the other woman’s demeanor remained unchanged as she ate, revealing nothing.
Chu Ling found the situation tricky, her mind wandering as she ate, nearly missing her mouth with an empty fork at one point.
“Focus. What’s on your mind?”
Song Qingyi couldn’t take it anymore and finally spoke up.
She admitted she was indeed a little angry after all, Chu Ling had said they would eventually divorce.
Divorce?
No, she wouldn’t even entertain the thought!
Song Qingyi seethed inwardly.
Their marriage had barely begun, yet Chu Ling was already thinking about divorce at every turn.
Originally, she had planned to take things slow, gradually integrating herself into Chu Ling’s life until she grew accustomed to her presence.
A classic case of boiling a frog in warm water. But now it seemed her approach might have been flawed.
Right, how could she have forgotten? Her face was Chu Ling’s biggest attraction.
Perhaps, she needed to try a different method.
Song Qingyi’s expression was unreadable, which Chu Ling interpreted as clear confirmation: she really was angry!
Great. She’d upset someone and had no idea how to make it better.
Wait, why did she even need to comfort Song Qingyi?
Their relationship wasn’t at that level. At best, they were roommates. Did she really need to be the one to soothe her?
Besides, she didn’t even know why Song Qingyi was angry. And even if she did, did she have any right to comfort her?
Perhaps, this is for the best. It’s better not to get too deeply involved, lest it becomes unbearable when the time comes for divorce.
She might find it hard to let go.
Chu Ling, oh Chu Ling, this won’t do. You must firmly remember your mission and stance never cross that line!
Otherwise, what lies ahead is an abyss!
Having convinced herself this way, Chu Ling finally stopped feeling anxious, and her expression returned to normal.
When Song Qingyi asked her a question, she shook her head. “I wasn’t thinking about anything. Let’s just eat quickly! Today, we can finally get some proper rest.”
After expending so much energy around Song Qingyi’s mother and the others, Chu Ling felt an urgent need to recover!
Song Qingyi’s expression remained unchanged as she nodded and said, “Alright, you rest first. I’ll be heading out later.”
Chu Ling was surprised that she was going out at night and wanted to ask if she was too busy, but she hesitated and ultimately didn’t say anything.
“Alright, be careful when you go out tonight!”
Song Qingyi’s eyes darkened slightly as she gave a faint “Mm” in acknowledgment. After that, neither of them spoke again. Once they finished eating, Chu Ling watched Song Qingyi leave before returning to her own room.
After idly playing on her phone for a long time, Chu Ling grew tired and decided to put it down to rest.
Just then, two notifications popped up on Xiao Yinfu, one was a notice about her passing the preliminary round of the competition she had entered, and the other was…
A new video posted by Song Qingyi!
Chu Ling immediately jolted upright as if struck by lightning, wide-eyed as she clicked on the notification from her special follow.
The moment she opened it, she froze. A slight tremble ran through her body as a peculiar sensation flooded her, and she swallowed unconsciously.
Oh no, it seems…
She’s having a reaction.
