After Transmigrating into a Book, I Had a Flash Marriage with the Beautiful Crazy Villain - Chapter 21
Chu Ling had originally intended to ask if she was feeling unwell somewhere, but before she could voice the question, a server approached them the next second, saying they were to take Song Qingyi to see her mother.
In an instant, all of Chu Ling’s thoughts scattered like smoke.
She stepped aside, signaling for Song Qingyi to go ahead, wanting to say not to mind her, she could find a place to stay by herself.
Yet Song Qingyi acted as though she couldn’t understand the hint, stubbornly looping her arm through Chu Ling’s and pulling her along behind the server.
The server glanced back several times, clearly wanting to say something but ultimately holding back due to their position, their expression caught between hesitation and restraint.
With such frequent looks back, unless one was blind, it was impossible not to notice. Chu Ling found the server’s expression almost painful to watch.
Still, from the server’s demeanor, she could tell that Song Qingyi’s mother had only called for her daughter, yet Song Qingyi insisted on bringing Chu Ling along.
For a second, Chu Ling pitied the server caught between two difficult positions, it was truly a tough spot.
But then again, why was Song Qingyi so adamant about dragging her along now? Moreover, Chu Ling realized that Song Qingyi could be this unyielding when she wanted to be. A strange sense of unease settled in her heart thankfully, this wasn’t directed at her.
It was too hard to handle.
Yet when they reached the door of their destination, Chu Ling hesitated and tugged at Song Qingyi’s sleeve.
“Song Qingyi! Maybe you should go in alone? I… We can visit properly another time?”
A flicker of displeasure crossed Song Qingyi’s eyes. “You don’t want to go in with me?”
Chu Ling’s internal danger radar blared wildly. “Of course not! It’s just that your mother didn’t invite me. It’d be too abrupt for me to just follow you in like this. Shouldn’t we at least give a heads-up first? This feels too impolite.”
Her voice grew weaker as she spoke, trailing off under Song Qingyi’s increasingly intense gaze.
Silence fell between them. Chu Ling fidgeted nervously.
The server, meanwhile, had already begun pretending they didn’t exist.
Who would’ve thought a simple task like leading the way would land them in such a tense standoff?
Their mind raced though they didn’t dare look, their ears were perked up high. If they couldn’t watch, they could at least listen!
They couldn’t just let gossip slip by!
Yet the two remained silent.
Chu Ling waited for Song Qingyi to respond, but Song Qingyi, uncharacteristically stubborn, refused to relent, still intent on bringing Chu Ling inside.
The standoff continued.
The server broke out in a cold sweat, unsure what to do. They didn’t dare urge them on, even instinctively holding their breath, afraid of becoming collateral damage in this silent battle.
“Come in together.”
The unbearable tension was finally broken by a rich, melodious voice from inside the room.
The door was slightly ajar, and with the short distance and the quiet hallway, the voice carried clearly.
Chu Ling rarely used the word “rich” to describe a voice, but the lady inside truly had a voice like that so refined it felt as though they’d stepped into a concert hall, instantly elevating the atmosphere.
Hearing this, Song Qingyi’s expression finally smoothed over. She looked at Chu Ling, wordlessly conveying one clear message:
Now we can go in together.
What else could Chu Ling do? The lady of the house had spoken, she couldn’t very well defy her.
So she had no choice but to steel herself and follow Song Qingyi through that half-open door.
Was it her imagination, or did Song Qingyi’s steps seem a little lighter?
Honestly, she just didn’t get it. Sometimes, saying Song Qingyi was hard to read wasn’t just her imagination after all, there were too many moments when this woman was utterly inscrutable.
Like right now. Chu Ling simply couldn’t understand why Song Qingyi was so insistent on bringing her inside.
Yet even though she couldn’t figure it out, Chu Ling still followed her in.
The lighting in the room was dim and ambiguous, which took Chu Ling by surprise. But what shocked her the most was,
There was a large bed inside, and a woman was lounging lazily against the headboard, exhaling wisps of smoke. She didn’t show the slightest hint of panic when they entered, remaining perfectly composed. Instead, Chu Ling was genuinely stunned.
Because she noticed, there was actually someone else lying beside the woman?
The figure lazily poked her head out from under the covers, her gaze sweeping over them with an assessing but not unkind look. More importantly, she appeared to be in her late twenties.
Chu Ling’s brain short-circuited. Had she and Song Qingyi come at a bad time?
This was definitely not a scene they should have walked in on! Especially since the other party was an elder!
Chu Ling had no idea how to react. Her mind was a muddled mess as she started calculating the age gap between the two, only to realize that Song Qingyi’s mother must have taken extremely good care of herself, there were hardly any traces of age on her face.
At a glance, they actually seemed well-matched?
Chu Ling shivered. Stop that train of thought right now.
The woman on the bed, her face half-hidden in the smoke, suddenly broke into a smile, her features instantly brightening with allure.
“What a pretty little thing. Qingyi, you’ve got good taste.”
Song Qingyi’s lips pressed into a tight line, a flicker of anger flashing in her eyes.
“Mom.”
Her voice was low, carrying an inexplicable edge of gloom enough that the woman on the bed seemed slightly intimidated.
But the woman just pulled her into an embrace, casually soothing her while still keeping her eyes on Song Qingyi.
“Protective, are we? After all this time. Fine, I won’t say more. Little beauty over there, what’s your name?”
Chu Ling opened her mouth to answer, but Song Qingyi immediately pressed a hand against her to stop her.
“You don’t know her name? Cut out the flirting. Don’t tease her.”
Chu Ling was surprised. Did Auntie actually know her name? Or had Song Qingyi mentioned her before?
But her thoughts were interrupted by the woman’s light, flirtatious laugh.
Honestly, Auntie Song didn’t seem like someone who could have a child as old as Song Qingyi. She looked young and enchanting, every movement dripping with charm.
The adoration in the other woman’s eyes made it clear just how infatuated she was with Auntie Song.
Chu Ling could barely handle the sight, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Song Yulin gave Chu Ling a meaningful look. “The little beauty really can’t take a tease, huh? Well, now that we’ve met, I’ll say it again as long as you don’t regret it.”
Chu Ling had the feeling those words were meant for Song Qingyi, but Auntie Song’s gaze was fixed on her.
And regret? Regret what? Had Song Qingyi done something that made Auntie Song think she’d come to regret it?
Chu Ling couldn’t make sense of it, and Song Yulin didn’t give them a chance to speak further. Though her tone was still gentle, there was an undeniable firmness to it.
“Lingling, I still have a few things to discuss with Qingyi. Could you wait outside for her?”
The sudden change in how she was addressed caught Chu Ling off guard, but she really didn’t have any reason to stay any longer. This was a good opportunity to leave first.
So she turned to Song Qingyi and said, “You talk with your mom. I’ll wait for you outside.”
Without waiting for Song Qingyi’s response, Chu Ling was the first to step out of the room.
Only when she left that suffocating space did she feel like she could breathe again.
How should she put it? Song Qingyi’s mother was indeed different from what she had imagined. Both were stunning beauties, each with their own charm, but there was an inexplicable sense that the other woman wasn’t as easy to get along with as she appeared.
Just as Chu Ling’s thoughts were wandering, the door behind her creaked softly, and a woman stepped out, the same one who had been standing beside Aunt Song earlier.
Chu Ling felt a little awkward and averted her gaze, pretending not to see her. But the woman, intrigued, sidled up to her.
“Hey, are you the stand-in Song Qingyi hired?”
The question left Chu Ling utterly speechless.
