After Transmigrating, I Fell in Love with a Top-Tier Movie Queen - Chapter 33
Lin Xin must have prepared in advance. Ye Linghua went upstairs to change into a different outfit.
When she came back down, Lin Xin was already waiting, also in a new outfit. She wore a white dress with a large bow tied at the back of her waist. When she stood up, the flared skirt hung naturally. Getting closer, Ye Linghua noticed an outer layer of hollowed-out floral lace.
Seeing Ye Linghua looking at her, Lin Xin pulled the skirt out to show her and asked, “Does it look good?”
Ye Linghua nodded, and Lin Xin smiled. Ye Linghua then realized that the ends of Lin Xin’s long hair were curled into large waves. She remembered seeing her get her hair styled that afternoon.
Lin Xin also looked at Ye Linghua. Ye Linghua’s style was always very casual. She had changed into a tight-fitting knit T-shirt and black trousers, which made her look very tall. Her black hair was casually put up, exposing all of her features.
The two left the house together, where the driver was already waiting.
They got in the car, and without a word from Lin Xin, the driver started the engine and drove off.
Ye Linghua raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. After all, the location had been confirmed on the phone, so this was completely normal.
As the sun disappeared behind the mountains, the fiery clouds faded, and the sky began to turn from deep blue to black. The streetlights flickered on, and cars sped down the roads. The bustling city’s vibrant nightlife had officially begun.
Soon, the car stopped in front of a restaurant. Potted plants lined both sides of the entrance, and two waiters in tailcoats stood by the door. Seeing the car stop, one stepped forward and opened the door, greeting them politely, “Welcome.”
The other waiter went around to the other side and opened the door for Ye Linghua.
Lin Xin got out of the car and said to the waiter, “Lin.”
Upon hearing the name reserved for the booking, the well-trained waiter, who had already memorized the day’s reservations, smiled and greeted them. He then led the way.
Ye Linghua followed behind Lin Xin. They walked past two small clumps of tropical plants at the entrance and entered a corridor. The path was made of black, rectangular stone tiles, and on either side were small rock gardens with cobblestones and scattered greenery.
Small decorative items were set into the walls, leading up from a display cabinet. The design was made of black wood.
Only the waiter and Lin Xin were walking in the quiet corridor. After a few steps, the waiter led them to an intersection.
To the right was another corridor; to the left was a circular staircase.
The waiter stood by the stairs and gestured, “Miss Lin, your private room is on the third floor. This way, please.”
Ye Linghua glanced at the other entrance, where she could vaguely see dining tables and people eating in the main hall.
Following the waiter upstairs, Ye Linghua guessed the upper floors were all private rooms. Separating the main dining area from the private rooms prevented guests from seeing each other and reduced interruptions.
This restaurant followed a high-end style, and there were even more private rooms than tables in the main hall.
When they reached the third floor, Ye Linghua looked down from the handrail and saw the staircase spiraling up from the first floor. She turned her attention back to the waiter, who had opened the door to a private room. He stood at the entrance and said, “Miss Lin, this is your reserved spot. Please, come in.”
Ye Linghua followed Lin Xin into the room and looked around. The room was not very big; for this restaurant, it was considered a small private room.
But it had everything it needed: a coat closet, a restroom, a sofa, and so on. Since it was summer, they didn’t have any coats to hang.
The waiter entered the room and pulled out two chairs, inviting them to sit down.
The lighting in the room was not very bright. The dining table was against a glass wall, and sitting down, they could see the view outside.
The night view had a unique charm.
After the waiter placed the menus on the table and left, Ye Linghua smiled and said, “I thought Sister Meng and the others would be here, too.”
Lin Xin was startled, realizing she had been careless. Since this was meant to be a birthday celebration for Ye Linghua, why hadn’t she invited Meng Kelin and the others?
Ye Linghua said, “But, I’m very happy.”
Lin Xin blinked and looked at her. Ye Linghua looked back at Lin Xin with a smile in her starry eyes. The feeling of being looked at like that—of being cherished and treated gently—made Lin Xin’s heart race.
“You invited me,” Ye Linghua said in a slightly low voice, like a lover’s whisper.
Lin Xin coughed, suppressing the odd feeling in her heart. She picked up the menu and asked Ye Linghua, “Is there anything you’d like to eat?”
Ye Linghua shook her head. “You can order. I’m good with anything.”
Lin Xin hummed in response, never raising her head. All Ye Linghua could see were her rosy ear tips and the wisps of hair tucked behind her ears.
Lin Xin was a regular here and knew the menu items as well as the waitstaff. She knew which dishes were delicious and which weren’t suited for a Chinese palate.
She flipped through two pages just for show and then pressed the bell.
The waiter was likely standing outside the door because he entered less than three seconds after the bell rang. He held a notepad in his left hand and a pen in his right. He bowed slightly, respectfully waiting for their order.
From across the table, Ye Linghua watched Lin Xin’s profile. The gentle lines exquisitely outlined her nose and mouth. Her phoenix eyes, which usually held a hint of aloofness, were now as clear as autumn water. Her eyebrows were like dark ink, and her hair was like satin.
As Ye Linghua watched, she felt the scene was so pleasing to the eye that she couldn’t help but smile.
When the waiter left with the menu, Lin Xin looked back at Ye Linghua and saw her staring. She paused.
“What are you looking at?”
Ye Linghua grinned. “Lin Xin, everyone says you’re very beautiful, right? I think so, too.”
Lin Xin’s breath hitched. She glared at her. “Just say I’m beautiful. Why do you have to add, ‘everyone says so’?”
Ye Linghua chuckled. Her eyes sparkled as she gently explained, “I was afraid you’d think I was being frivolous.”
Lin Xin was speechless. So this person is self-aware!
Thinking this, Lin Xin smiled again. In the soft light, the smile of a beautiful woman could captivate a city. Ye Linghua was also momentarily stunned. Her mood brightened, and she smiled along with her.
Under the waiter’s coordination, the dishes were quickly served one by one. Paired with delicious red wine and the beautiful view from the glass window, both of them enjoyed the meal immensely.
After they finished, the waiter brought them hot towels to wipe their hands. He cleared away the extra plates and bowls, then bowed his head and asked, “Shall I bring dessert now?”
Lin Xin nodded. “Yes.”
Ye Linghua said, “There’s dessert, too?”
Lin Xin nodded, and Ye Linghua continued, “You should have told me earlier so I could have saved some room.”
Lin Xin said, “Isn’t it normal to have dessert after dinner?”
Ye Linghua replied, “Oh, what time is the flight tomorrow?”
As they chatted, the door to the private room opened. Unlike the usual practice of placing food on a serving cart, this time the dessert was wheeled in by a different waiter.
On the cart was a three-tiered pink cake with a purple floral border at the base. It was decorated with cute flowers and lifelike butterflies. On the top tier, the words “Happy Birthday” were beautifully written on a chocolate plaque, standing out with the candlelight.
Ye Linghua stared at the cake being wheeled in. Although she didn’t make an exaggerated gesture or say anything touching, her gaze was fixed on the cake. Her expression went from surprised to “I knew it,” and finally to heartfelt joy. She had suspected it, but seeing the cake was a moment of happy surprise and indescribable excitement.
“Happy Birthday, Miss Ye!”
Led by the first waiter, a band suddenly appeared and began to play “Happy Birthday,” and the waiters all sang along.
Amidst the song, Ye Linghua looked at Lin Xin, who was smiling and quietly singing along.
When the music stopped, everyone stood silently to the side.
Lin Xin urged her, “Hurry up and make a wish.”
Ye Linghua looked at the candles and silently wished in her heart, Please bless Lin Xin with a life of health and happiness.
Then, she stepped forward and blew out the candles. The waiters applauded, then moved the cake to the table. After handing a knife to Ye Linghua, they all left the room, leaving the two of them alone.
Ye Linghua quietly took the knife and cut a small slice from the large cake. She gave the first piece to Lin Xin, then cut a slice for herself.
She took a spoonful, revealing the cake, cream, and strawberries inside. With a taste, the subtle aroma and sweet flavor of the cream filled her mouth.
“Thank you,” she said.
Lin Xin was eating her cake with her head down and vaguely heard the thank you. She looked up. Ye Linghua was eating her cake with her head down, and Lin Xin looked at her with a confused expression. “Did you just say something to me?”
Ye Linghua said, “Yes, I said thank you.”
Lin Xin was a little embarrassed. “There’s nothing to thank me for.”
Ye Linghua replied, “This is the first birthday you’ve celebrated for me, Lin Xin. I’m very happy. So, so happy, so happy that…” …I truly want to pull you away from that person.
Seeing that Ye Linghua didn’t finish her sentence, Lin Xin didn’t press the issue and said, “I haven’t given you the gift yet!”
Ye Linghua raised an eyebrow. “There’s a gift, too?”
Lin Xin took a beautifully wrapped box from under the cart and pushed it toward Ye Linghua. “Your birthday present.”
The box was quite large, and Ye Linghua couldn’t see what was inside. She didn’t rush to open it and thanked Lin Xin again.
The unforgettable birthday dinner was nearing its end. Ye Linghua pressed the call button to summon the waiter and asked them to pack up the cake again.
Lin Xin reminded her, “We’re leaving tomorrow. You won’t be able to finish it.”
Ye Linghua replied, “I know.”
Lin Xin was puzzled. “Then why are you taking it back?”
Ye Linghua looked at her, her dark eyes exceptionally clear. She said with conviction, “Because you bought it.” So, I can’t just leave it here. I can’t preserve this cake forever, but its extraordinary meaning will forever remain in my heart.
Lin Xin was embarrassed by her serious tone and quietly retorted, “Fine, whatever you want. As long as you don’t find it too much trouble.”
Ye Linghua said, “I’m not tired at all. I wouldn’t be tired even if you gave me more.”
And so, she did. She carried two large boxes out of the restaurant and was especially careful as she got into the car, placing the boxes down with care. She sat beside them, using her hands to shield them in case of a sudden stop.
When they got back to the villa, the refrigerator had been emptied during the day. Ye Linghua removed a shelf and placed the cake inside.
She then took the gift box and prepared to go back to her room. Lin Xin followed behind her, and before they parted ways, she hesitated before finally speaking. “I picked those gifts very carefully. I didn’t just buy them randomly.”
Ye Linghua smiled. “Okay, I’ll be sure to cherish them.”
Lin Xin said, “That’s good.” With that, she opened her door and retreated to her room.
Ye Linghua had a feeling there was a deeper meaning to her words, but she couldn’t figure out why she had said that or what she was trying to express.
She decided to go back to her room first. After she closed her door, the door to Lin Xin’s room slowly opened. Lin Xin, her face flushed, came out and looked at Ye Linghua’s door with a look of conflict. She murmured resentfully, “She won’t find it, right?”
She definitely won’t find it!
Ye Linghua returned to her room, opened the gift, and found two beautiful outfits and a set of high-end cosmetics.
They were ordinary and not out of the ordinary.
So, why had she made a point of saying that? Why would she think Lin Xin had just picked them up randomly? Of course she would cherish her intentions.
Ye Linghua couldn’t figure it out, so she let it go for the time being.
She gathered the bags from the clothes, the boxes from the cosmetics, and the outer packaging, placed them all together, and put them by the door to be taken out and thrown away in the morning.
With everything tidy, she prepared for bed.
The moment she turned off the lights, from the bottom of the large box she had thrown by the door, a tiny reflection quickly vanished into the darkness…
Goodnight!
