After Transmigrating, I Fell in Love with a Top-Tier Movie Queen - Chapter 21
Ye Linghua cooperated with Lin Xin to take a few photos. Although she wasn’t sure what they were promoting, she didn’t object when Lin Xin told her it was for work.
After the photo shoot, everyone started packing up.
Ye Linghua followed Lin Xin back to the octagonal pavilion, where Meng Kelin had already arranged for food to be delivered. At the moment, Zhu Fang was sitting in front of a grill, sweating profusely while cooking skewers.
Seeing the two of them return, Meng Kelin waved and enthusiastically called out, “Come eat some grilled skewers!”
Ye Linghua and Lin Xin sat down with her. Meng Kelin attentively offered them skewers and drinks.
Soon, other crew members returned as well. Zhu Fang couldn’t handle all the grilling alone, so others helped out.
Ye Linghua and Lin Xin sat on the bench by the river, already feeling quite full. They watched the yellow cattle leisurely grazing by the river.
The photographer, a Chinese man named He Rong, had lived abroad for many years but still spoke Chinese quite well.
He walked over with a skewer when he saw the two of them sitting together, and he smiled as he chatted with them.
“You two are so well-suited for photos together. Your chemistry is perfect,” He Rong commented before he left.
Lin Xin replied, “Thank you.”
He Rong then looked at Ye Linghua and asked, “Are you two really not a couple?”
Ye Linghua replied, “…We’re not.”
He Rong looked disappointed and joked, “You should consider it!”
Both Lin Xin and Ye Linghua politely declined with a laugh, and He Rong acted as though it was a terrible waste.
After a few more minutes of small talk, he reluctantly left.
After he was gone, Lin Xin and Ye Linghua fell silent for a moment because of his words.
It was a spring afternoon, and the sun wasn’t too hot. The temperature was a pleasant 27 degrees Celsius, but Ye Linghua still felt a bit restless. She only ate a little, declined the beer Meng Kelin offered, and went to the riverside alone.
Seeing her leave, Meng Kelin took a plate of skewers and sat down beside Lin Xin.
She followed Lin Xin’s gaze, which was fixed on Ye Linghua. For ease of movement, Ye Linghua wasn’t wearing a dress today. She had on black capri-length wide-leg pants and a pure white T-shirt, and her long black hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
She stood by the river, with her eyes closed, facing the wind.
In such a beautiful scene, a beautiful person is always a delight to the eye.
Meng Kelin paused and asked Lin Xin, “What do you think of her?”
Lin Xin looked away and didn’t answer.
Meng Kelin pressed on, “When you went to get her for the photos earlier, it didn’t look like acting to me.”
Lin Xin raised her head and looked at her silently. Her dark eyes were piercing, and although she didn’t speak, her meaning was clear.
Meng Kelin sighed, “I’m not trying to say anything about you, but when it comes to relationships, it’s not scary to fall once. What’s scary is falling twice.”
She wasn’t suggesting Ye Linghua was bad, or comparing her to the trashy Zheng Lanwen.
However, Ye Linghua was too mysterious. She was a housekeeper who didn’t seem to know anything but possessed a certain nobility in her every move. She had influential friends and handled unexpected situations with calmness and efficiency.
She didn’t look like an ordinary person at all.
This kind of mysterious person makes you feel like you have to be extra careful, even if you like them.
Lin Xin said, “What are you trying to say? I never said I liked her.”
Then, without waiting for Meng Kelin to respond, she also got up and left her seat.
Meng Kelin watched her walk away and clicked her tongue. “Is liking someone something you have to say?” She had been in the entertainment industry for over 20 years and had seen more than the young people had. This situation clearly seemed off.
Or maybe I’m just overthinking it?
Meng Kelin was wondering if she had a discerning eye or if she was just getting old. Then, she saw Lin Xin walk out of the pavilion, look around, and head straight for Ye Linghua.
Meng Kelin clicked her tongue again. “Looks like I have a discerning eye, after all!”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about the photos beforehand,” Lin Xin said, walking up to Ye Linghua, who had been standing by the river, just taking in the breeze.
Some areas of the grass by the river were damp, making it easy to get your shoes dirty if you weren’t careful.
And because of the cows, the grassland wasn’t as picturesque as the photos suggested. Every now and then, you could spot a piece of cow dung, which really spoiled the scenery.
Ye Linghua turned at the sound of her voice and saw Lin Xin standing beside her, wearing the big straw hat from the photo shoot. The loose brim of the hat fluttered gently in the wind. The sound of her white dress rustling in the breeze was like a beautiful song.
“It’s nothing,” she said with a gentle smile. She didn’t feel like Lin Xin had caused her any trouble. She reassured her, “It’s part of my job. I’m happy to do it.”
Lin Xin hummed in agreement and then explained, “Sister Meng’s idea is that if the song does well, we might need merchandise like this. So, this could be considered a fan benefit.”
Ye Linghua still didn’t completely understand, but she grasped the general idea.
“Okay. If you need anything, just let me know. I’m happy to cooperate,” Ye Linghua said.
Lin Xin’s heart fluttered. Ye Linghua had previously said that it wasn’t convenient, but now she was willing to cooperate. Lin Xin knew this was a compromise for her.
Is she compromising for me?
Lin Xin took a deep breath, trying not to overthink it, and then brought up the music video.
“The music video shoot starts tomorrow. We’ve hired Director Yu, who’s very experienced in this field.”
Ye Linghua had received the message a long time ago. She only had a partial understanding of these things, so she simply hummed in agreement. In the end, she would just follow Lin Xin’s lead. It didn’t matter who they hired.
A gentle breeze blew in from the river, and both of them fell silent. Lin Xin imitated Ye Linghua, facing the river and feeling the breeze on her face.
It really felt comfortable. The feeling of someone being with you, sharing the breeze, felt a little different.
At this moment, Lin Xin felt as if she were floating in the air, soft and fluffy, forgetting everything and having no worries.
A short time later, Meng Kelin’s voice called out for the two of them to return.
Ye Linghua answered her, and seeing Lin Xin still standing with her eyes closed, feeling the wind, she reached out and gently pulled her.
Lin Xin opened her eyes, her big eyes filled with confusion. It was clear she hadn’t heard Meng Kelin’s call.
Ye Linghua saw her eyes, which were both dark and bright with confusion, and her heart softened. “Come on, it’s time to go back.”
Lin Xin said, “Oh,” and quickly followed her. Since she was wearing heels, it was hard to walk on the soft grass, and she had to be careful to avoid the cow dung, so she was moving slowly.
Ye Linghua would walk a few steps and then turn to look back at her. Finally, she couldn’t help it. She walked up to Lin Xin, reached out her hand in front of her, and asked softly, “Do you mind if I hold your hand?”
The hand in front of her was long-fingered and fair. The lines on her palm were different from her own, but Lin Xin could still remember the warmth of her hand. She always liked to rub her head, hiding the intimacy through the contact with her hair.
If they weren’t in a deeper relationship, she should have avoided this.
But Lin Xin still raised her hand, placed it in Ye Linghua’s, and said softly, “Thank you.”
Ye Linghua then led Lin Xin back. The two of them, holding hands and walking on the grass, were a small presence in the vast landscape, but they were a touching and enviable sight.
Inside the pavilion, He Rong raised his camera and captured the moment. Then he said with a sigh, “Some people’s existence, just their mere presence, makes you thank Heaven. This kind of bond is probably very precious.”
Meng Kelin said, “That’s a bit much.”
He Rong just smiled and said, “It’s probably because my eyes see through a machine, so it’s different from what you see.”
From his camera, he could capture many moments that people often overlook.
The images in the camera don’t lie. From the moment they appeared, the way they looked at each other was filled with emotion.
Even if they hadn’t realized it themselves.
He Rong smiled gently and put his camera away. This kind of ambiguous feeling is pure and a thing of yearning. He planned to print the photos and send them to them. Regardless of whether they ended up together, it would be a precious memory.
Ye Linghua and Lin Xin walked back to the octagonal pavilion. Two more people had joined Zhu Fang at the grill, and the three of them worked together to speed up the cooking of the skewers.
Everyone sat on the benches, eating skewers, drinking cold beverages, and chatting happily. Seeing Ye Linghua and Lin Xin return, Meng Kelin moved to the left and patted the space next to her. “Over here.”
Ye Linghua thanked her and sat down.
Then, Meng Kelin patted the space on her right and said with a smile to Lin Xin, “Over here.”
Lin Xin stood in front of her, was silent for a moment, and then asked in a strange tone, “Are you trying to set up a left and right protector?”
Meng Kelin laughed. “Hahaha, you’re so funny.” Come on, she just didn’t want to sit over here. What’s the difference between sitting with Ye Linghua and sitting with me?
Meng Kelin felt like she had been brainwashed by the photographer and was now having all sorts of crazy thoughts. Still, she moved to the right and left the spot to her left, next to Ye Linghua, open. “Then you can sit here.”
Lin Xin then sat down, not feeling like there was anything wrong with her request.
Meng Kelin, however, thought there was a big problem. She leaned over to Lin Xin’s ear and whispered, “Be honest, have you fallen for her?”
Lin Xin gave her a nonchalant look and replied, “Your intentions are impure. I’m not playing with you.”
Meng Kelin quickly said, “I’m just kidding, just kidding. It’s all He Rong’s fault for talking so much. He fooled me.”
But Lin Xin still ignored her and turned her back to Meng Kelin. In doing so, she had to face Ye Linghua.
Meng Kelin said, “…” She had gone too far with the joke.
Meanwhile, Ye Linghua looked at the grilled skewers and chose a skewer of grilled asparagus. The oily smoke was a bit heavy, and she didn’t have much of an appetite.
She had only eaten two pieces of asparagus when she felt someone staring at her. She turned her head and, as expected, saw Lin Xin looking at her.
Ye Linghua was taken aback. She thought Lin Xin was mad at Meng Kelin and wanted her skewer. She glanced at the plate of skewers and saw there was no more asparagus. The one in her hand was the last one.
Ye Linghua asked, “Do you want to eat some asparagus?”
Lin Xin was stunned. She looked at the asparagus in Ye Linghua’s hand and simply nodded.
Ye Linghua hesitated, looking at Lin Xin and then at the asparagus in her hand. She thought to herself, it’s just skewers, piece by piece, so it’s probably fine, right?
Even though she said that to herself, their relationship wasn’t at the point where they should be sharing a skewer.
But looking at Lin Xin, Ye Linghua had no choice but to raise the skewer of asparagus and ask, “If you don’t mind…”
Lin Xin was frozen for a moment. She looked at the grill plate, then back at the asparagus skewer in Ye Linghua’s hand, and then looked up at Ye Linghua. Her dark pupils were so black.
Ye Linghua thought, “I was indeed rude.”
She didn’t know why she had even thought of offering it to her. It was something they shouldn’t do.
As she was thinking this, she was about to pull her hand back, but then she saw Lin Xin suddenly lower her head and hold the top piece of asparagus with her mouth, gently pulling it off the skewer.
In that instant, Ye Linghua’s mind went blank.
Time seemed to slow down. She could see the glossy sheen on Lin Xin’s pink lips and the way her pearly teeth gently bit the asparagus.
Everything felt so surreal, and her surroundings seemed to blur.
It was only then that Ye Linghua realized Lin Xin really didn’t mind and had actually eaten it. The staff around them had also seen it but didn’t react much.
Ye Linghua took a deep breath, trying to act as if they were just ordinary friends. She did this with a few of her best friends sometimes.
But the woman in front of her didn’t seem to realize what she had just done. After she took the asparagus, she looked up at Ye Linghua, staring at her, chewing the asparagus with her cheeks puffed out like a squirrel, and then swallowing.
Then, she continued to stare at Ye Linghua with her dark eyes.
Ye Linghua thought, “A hamster.”
Phew, I spent so much time on these few words today, sigh.
