- Chapter 8 - Lu Er Ate the Chocolate She Had Bitten
Upon hearing the words “Please come in,” the ward door was pushed open. Lu Lingzhi entered the room as expected, the environment was quiet and elegant, revealing a spacious and bright private VIP ward.
On the hospital bed, Jiang Mingyue sat leaning against the headboard, her face still carrying a few traces of sickly paleness.
However, Lu Lingzhi noticed another unfamiliar girl sitting on the escort chair, peeling an apple.
The girl looked quiet and gentle, dressed in a simple short-sleeved shirt and jeans. Lu Lingzhi felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity, as if she had seen her somewhere before, but she couldn’t recall where at the moment.
She guessed it was likely Jiang Mingyue’s roommate.
The moment Lu Lingzhi pushed the door open, a bright and radiant young girl entered the line of sight.
Su Xi recognized her immediately the Omega “campus belle” from the Finance Department of Peking University.
She instantly set down the apple and the knife, her eyes moving from the girl’s exquisite features to the KFC bag in her hand.
Mingyue is so stubborn, Su Xi thought. Saying they are “just high school alumni” and “have no relationship”? Could someone with no relationship rush to a VIP ward within ten minutes of receiving a phone call?! Would someone with no relationship bring you KFC?
It must be Student Lu who is pursuing Mingyue.
Mingyue is too cold can’t she just coax Student Lu a little?
“I am Su Xi. Are you Student Lu?” Su Xi asked, suppressing her inner excitement as she stood up.
“I am.” Lu Lingzhi nodded. She took a box of egg tarts out of the KFC bag and handed it to her. These were all ordered by the System it really didn’t treat her money like money, ordering things she couldn’t possibly finish alone. It was the perfect chance to “borrow a flower to offer to Buddha.”
Lu Lingzhi said sincerely, “It’s been hard on you, Student Su. I didn’t know your taste, so please have these to tide you over.”
Wow! So gentle, so thoughtful!
And when she came in, she knew to knock, unlike that group earlier who had no manners at all.
Su Xi fan girl for only a few seconds. She looked at Lu Lingzhi’s incredibly beautiful face and clear eyes, which felt like being wrapped in warm sunshine or brushed by a gentle breeze. Then she looked at the cold and ethereal Jiang Mingyue on the bed.
Wow!
The two of them in the same frame…
They look so compatible!
Flattered, she stammered, “Ah? This… how could I? Student Lu, you’re too polite. Taking care of Mingyue is what I should do.”
Though her words were pretty, her body was incredibly honest; her hand reached out lightning-fast to take the box of egg tarts.
【The System immediately reached out an “Erkang hand” (desperate reach) and collapsed to its knees: !!! NO! Those are mine! My egg tarts! Mama, how could you… you’re choosing beauty over your System. [Heart Shattered.jpg]】
【Lu Lingzhi rolled her eyes silently in her mind: Shut up. Who told you to order so much? Mama is teaching you how to be a proper System you have to learn to share. in the adult world, this is called “social graces.”】
【The System immediately retorted: These are mine. Sharing things requires my consent. This is “Chinese style education.” Your social graces are built upon my suffering. Why didn’t you give any to Jiang Mingyue? Double standards!】
On the bed, Jiang Mingyue watched this scene with a calm gaze.
When Lu Lingzhi pulled out the box of egg tarts, her eyes lingered on the red and white striped box for a split second before shifting away, acting as if she hadn’t seen anything.
She remembered that back in high school, Lu Lingzhi knew egg tarts were her favorite and would bring them to her every time.
Then, she looked away again, pretending to glance casually at the bright sunlight outside the window. Only her fingers, hidden beneath the thin quilt, curled almost imperceptibly.
Su Xi, very tactfully clutching her egg tarts, prepared to evacuate the battlefield to give the two of them space. “Oh! Right! I just remembered, I have a very important lab class this afternoon. Mingyue, I’ll leave you in Student Lu’s capable hands. Mingyue, I’ll help you find a proxy for your class.”
After the soft click of the door closing, only the two of them remained in the room. “Lu Er.”
Lu Lingzhi cleared her throat. Looking at Jiang Mingyue’s sickly face, she really couldn’t bring herself to say anything harsh. To do good deeds and upgrade the System, she had to set aside their grievances.
She tried to make her tone sound like a normal classmate visiting a patient. “Cough. Jiang Mingyue, how are you feeling?”
“Hypoglycemia.” Jiang Mingyue’s voice was lighter than usual, like a feather landing on snow. Lu Lingzhi fished a piece of Patchi chocolate in silver foil from her pocket, the classic Hazelnut Sea Salt flavor.
Perhaps it was a habit.
A habit of carrying a piece of chocolate before leaving the house, a habit kept for many years.
She had almost forgotten whether it started because Jiang Mingyue liked it, or simply because once, when Jiang Mingyue had low blood sugar, she happened to have chocolate on her. After the other girl ate it, she had inexplicably persisted with the habit.
She skillfully unwrapped the packaging and naturally held the hazelnut-studded chocolate to Jiang Mingyue’s lips. “How did this happen? Did you not eat breakfast?”
Jiang Mingyue lowered her lashes, casting a small shadow beneath her eyes. She didn’t look at Lu Lingzhi she just obediently lowered her head slightly and, pressing against Lu Lingzhi’s hand, took a small bite of the chocolate.
The rich aroma of hazelnut instantly spread in her mouth, followed by the slight saltiness of sea salt, perfectly balancing the sweetness and easing the dizziness from the low blood sugar. This was her favorite chocolate.
She remained silent for a moment, and her tiny bit of unhappiness vanished. She couldn’t very well say that some “crazy man and crazy woman” got triggered this morning and started using “magic” to create a loop.
“I overslept,” she finally chose the briefest answer, her voice muffled.
“Oh,” Lu Lingzhi replied dryly. Her hand remained in the position of offering the chocolate, and her fingertips accidentally brushed against Jiang Mingyue’s cool lips. She retracted them as if hit by an electric shock.
Jiang Mingyue’s lips were still as soft as they used to be. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, casting a thin golden line on the sheets between them just like the sunlight that fell on them that day on the grass.
Back then, she had finally slumped onto Jiang Mingyue’s back. It was the first time she had smelled Jiang Mingyue’s pheromones from such a close distance her nose was almost pressed against her scent gland.
Then she discovered that her own Omega pheromones actually made Jiang Mingyue’s cold, tulip Omega pheromones… become exceptionally sweet and tempting.
Her tulips, mixed with her slightly trembling, beautiful voice from nervousness at the time.
Did she stick her tongue out?
No. I’m a good girl, I wouldn’t do such a thing to a classmate.
But did Jiang Mingyue stick her tongue out? Probably.
Lu Lingzhi’s eyes involuntarily met Jiang Mingyue’s. Those cold eyes seemed capable of seeing through all her romantic, wandering thoughts. The curve that had unconsciously formed at the corner of her mouth due to the memory instantly froze, returning to a line as flat as the horizon.
You stole my first kiss, hmph!
Lu Lingzhi subconsciously bit the soft flesh inside her cheek, chanting in her heart: Jiang Mingyue is a liar. She’s a beautiful liar, and beautiful liars are best at deceiving fools like me.
An ambiguous atmosphere spread and fermented in the silence.
At a time like this, she had to keep herself busy. She fumbled for her phone in her pocket, turned on the screen, and said mysteriously, “I have something good to show you.”
“What is it?”
“It’s a ‘Rich Omega’ tearing into a ‘Scumbag Alpha’.” Lu Lingzhi popped the remaining piece of chocolate into her own mouth. “It’s absolutely satisfying to watch.”
Jiang Mingyue was about to say, “I still…” want more.
She suddenly realized that Lu Er had eaten the chocolate she had already bitten. This was an indirect kiss. Her ear tips instantly flushed hot. But she felt a strange sense of satisfaction. She thought back to that one time after school in tenth grade, on the grass, when the two of them… kissed.
Because of that time, Lu Er cried her eyes out because she lost her first kiss.
But it was her first kiss too. That day, Lu Er was clearly the one who stuck her tongue out first to tease her, but when she responded, Lu Er started crying.
Lu Er made her carry her. All the way, she leaned on her back, pressing her nose against her gland, even licking it with her tongue while using her pheromones to hook her hooking her until she was both flushed with heat and helpless.
Later, didn’t she carry her all the way to the Rolls-Royce? With one command, she had been taken away.
In the end, something unpleasant happened.
Her sister hadn’t even gotten in the car yet. So when her sister arrived at the school gate, she found the car gone and her sister gone.
The school gate left her sister with nothing but a lonely, heartless breeze.
Supposedly, when this “little ancestor” got home, she belatedly remembered her “shameless” act of abandoning her sister. She hugged her sister and cried for half the night: “Sister, where did you go? You’re finally back, I was worried to death. When I disappeared, why didn’t you call me? How could you leave me all alone…”
Jiang Mingyue figured the reason she was suddenly unhappy just now was probably that she knew about her embarrassing past.
Lu Lingzhi was still promoting her video. “Aren’t I amazing? I watched it three times at the scene.”
She accidentally met Jiang Mingyue’s gaze again, only to be startled by the complex, deep light in the other’s eyes. She rubbed the goosebumps on her arms. “What’s with that look? It’s kind of creepy.”
Jiang Mingyue quickly looked away, her long lashes hiding the emotions in her eyes. Her tone returned to flat. “What ‘three times’?”
Jiang Mingyue shifted her gaze. “What three times?”
For some reason, she thought of Lu Lingzhi watching Jian Cheng run the 1000m three times on the playground this morning.
Lu Lingzhi realized she had slipped up. “Right, such an exciting video, how could watching it three times be enough?”
【The System set off fireworks happily: Congratulations Mama for doing a good deed! Jiang Mingyue’s favorability +30, Su Xi’s favorability +30. Little Tong is only 40 points away from upgrading. Keep it up, Mama!】
【Lu Lingzhi: How do you calculate this favorability? What’s the cap? Also, Su Xi’s favorability counts toward me too? I’m not going to have a romance plot with her, am I?】
【The System replied with fawning grievance: Sorry, Mama. I’m still a baby in the growth phase; my permissions are limited, so I can’t see the maximum value. Mama’s words and deeds can all earn positive energy. Please do more good deeds so Little Tong can upgrade quickly!】
“Are you done with your physical exam?” Jiang Mingyue asked.
“Yes.” Lu Lingzhi turned her head to look at Jiang Mingyue, her beautiful peach-blossom eyes narrowing slightly in dissatisfaction. “Why am I your emergency contact?”
Vibrate, vibrate, vibrate.
