- Chapter 61 - She’s Not My Friend. I Don’t Know Her.
Sometimes, Yan Run thought that if Gu Zhen didn’t have these bouts of madness, she and Lin Chuyin would actually be quite a good match.
Most of the people here were acquaintances of Lin Chuyin—classmates, friends, familiar faces.
But if one was to speak of closeness, no one compared to Yu Wenxi.
After all, to congratulate Lin Chuyin on winning an award, Yu Wenxi had mulled it over and finally decided to change into a more formal gown before coming.
The black dress bloomed like midnight in full splendor, drawing many appreciative glances. Several locals who already knew of Yu Wenxi’s reputation praised her openly.
Still, most eyes drifted toward the hostess.
Gu Zhen rarely attended events like this, so the sight of this striking Alpha approaching them piqued curiosity. Those who were aware of her ambiguous relationship with Lin Chuyin exchanged knowing looks, their expressions laced with subtle teasing.
Yan Run, however, was only waiting for Lang Feng to show up.
“Miss Yan and Miss Yu truly are a match made in heaven—appearance, family background, education, all perfectly matched,” someone said after glancing over Gu Zhen and moving on to compliments.
Yan Run could only smile, unsure how to respond. Yu Wenxi, however, replied lightly, “Thank you for the kind words. Back then, no one ever said things like this about me and my wife.”
“Back then was back then. Now is now. We’ve heard a few rumors, but as long as the person is right, who cares what others say?”
Yan Run’s gaze swept the room again. Still no sign of Lang Feng. She looked toward Gu Zhen. Gu Zhen merely arched a brow, her meaning unreadable.
Yu Wenxi smiled faintly, raised her glass, and clinked it lightly against Lin Chuyin’s. “Another award for you.”
Lin Chuyin inclined her head modestly. “It’s just a small one.”
Standing nearby, Yan Run listened to the exchange between the two top-tier Omegas while stealing another glance at Gu Zhen.
It was as if she were silently asking: Where’s Lang Feng?
Gu Zhen’s lips curved into a slight smile, head tilting, as if to say: You’ll find out soon enough.
“Chuyin, we haven’t met this one before—you should introduce us,” someone said, curiosity getting the better of them.
At once, all eyes turned to Lin Chuyin, anticipation in their gazes.
A faint blush tinged Lin Chuyin’s cheeks. She pressed her lips together, then said with a small smile, “She… she’s my girlfriend.”
The crowd erupted into cheers, while Gu Zhen’s eyes lit up, fixed on her Omega.
She had finally become her “big sister’s” girlfriend.
“Jiejie… are you serious? When I confessed before, you wouldn’t give me an answer,” Gu Zhen said, unusually shy and eager for confirmation.
Lin Chuyin soothed her gently. “Silly, I was exhausted that time and thought answering you today would be fine. You were just too impatient.”
Gu Zhen’s mood soared, her hands trembling with excitement.
Watching the scene, a strange flicker of irritation flared in Yan Run’s chest.
Did Chuyin-jie even know what her girlfriend had been up to outside?
Or was Gu Zhen simply too good at playing the obedient child in front of her?
Yu Wenxi, too, was startled by Lin Chuyin’s blunt declaration.
She knew Gu Zhen wasn’t as well-behaved as she appeared—she just hadn’t expected Lin Chuyin to actually like her.
Lin Chuyin caught Yu Wenxi’s expression. Years of friendship told her this wasn’t a look of joy.
On impulse, she reached out and held Yu Wenxi’s hand.
“Chuyin’s girlfriend is certainly easy on the eyes,” someone commented.
“So beautiful—your children will be stunning,” another chimed in.
“I’ll let you in on a little secret—this young lady is the heir to the Gu Group.”
“Oh? Young President Gu? I’m honored.”
“Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness…”
Gu Zhen basked in the tide of well-wishes, uncharacteristically bashful. Her gaze lingered on Lin Chuyin’s gentle, gracious face, as if to silently affirm all their hopes.
Then, a voice rang out from the side:
“Congratulations, Young President Gu, on winning the beauty’s heart.”
The moment Yan Run heard it, her body went taut. She turned toward the source.
A woman with vivid red hair, bold features, and a crimson gown was making her way forward at a leisurely pace.
Yan Run’s fists clenched involuntarily.
It was Lang Feng.
Her domineering aura drew curious glances from all around.
“And this is…?” someone asked.
“I’m a friend of one of the guests here,” she replied.
“Oh?” Gu Zhen’s lips curved with interest.
Lang Feng’s gaze locked onto Yan Run.
Outwardly calm, Yan Run was anything but—inside, her emotions were a storm.
At her side, Yu Wenxi gave her a knowing look. She had guessed it—this was Lang Feng.
Yu Wenxi’s tone was cool but pointed. “Why are you looking at my wife? Are you her friend?”
Lang Feng answered without hesitation. “More than a friend. We used to spend every day together.”
The revelation sent ripples of speculation through the crowd. If they were friends, why did they seem so distant now? Was there more to the story?
Gu Zhen chuckled. “Miss Yan, your friend’s here. Aren’t you going to greet her?”
Yan Run cut in sharply, “She’s not my friend. I don’t know her.”
The words struck Lang Feng like a blade. Yan Run could see the fury igniting in her eyes.
And yet, seeing her angry didn’t make Yan Run feel any better.
After all, Lang Feng was unpredictable—a madwoman who could do anything.
Sure enough, Lang Feng let out a cold laugh. “You really are an ungrateful, heartless person.”
Gasps rippled through the onlookers.
Most of them weren’t Yan Run’s friends, and a scene like this was irresistible. Every face brimmed with curiosity, anticipation, and scrutiny.
The carefully crafted image of a devoted, doting wife was crumbling before their eyes.
What a spectacle.
Yan Run forced down the fire simmering in her chest and gritted her teeth.
“I’m asking you—can you stop hanging around me? If it’s about money, young Miss Gu here is far richer than I am. Why don’t you go crash into her instead?”
Lang Feng shot back loudly, “Because I know you, Yan Run! We were classmates—good friends once! We skipped class together, listened to music on the rooftop, went out to eat. I fought and argued for you, made the teachers and students hate me, all because you told me to! You said you wanted to be my best friend, but the moment I confessed to you, you looked disgusted, cut ties completely, and left me to become the most reviled person in the entire school!”
What a lunatic.
She was the one who tried to—
Yan Run stopped herself mid-sentence.
If word got out that she, an Alpha, had almost been assaulted by another Alpha in front of witnesses… Yu Wenxi’s reputation would be the one to take the hit.
Her gaze snapped toward Gu Zhen, sharp with fury. This one really was up to no good—working with Lang Feng to set her up, no doubt.
Lang Feng had clearly banked on Yan Run not exposing the truth. So in front of everyone, she twisted the story further:
“This Alpha—don’t be fooled by her marrying an Omega and acting like she likes her. She knew I liked Alphas and deliberately teased me, egged me on to do this and that, turned me against the whole class until I was isolated and wrongly accused. And her? She stood behind the scenes pretending to be innocent. When I finally confessed, she called me worse than a pig or a dog! And yet this kind of person can still marry a big celebrity? Truly… heaven is blind.”
“Makes you wonder if the rumors were true.”
“Maybe joining that dating show was all calculated.”
“Don’t forget—Yan family money was behind that show. If they wanted to whitewash her image, it’d be easy.”
Yan Run actually laughed. She had never met anyone quite this ridiculous.
Lin Chuyin glanced at Yu Wenxi. She wasn’t sure whether this stranger’s claims were true, but Yu Wenxi’s calm, almost dismissive expression said enough—she clearly didn’t believe Lang Feng. As her friend, Lin Chuyin felt she shouldn’t believe it either.
“A-Zhen, since Miss Yan says she doesn’t know this person, please see her out,” Lin Chuyin said. Gu Zhen clearly hadn’t expected her to speak up so soon.
Lang Feng glanced at Gu Zhen in shock.
Yan Run sneered. “What are you two staring at each other for? Fine, since you say you’re my high school classmate, sure—why not? I’ve had plenty of friends; one more or less doesn’t matter.”
“What did you say?!” Lang Feng bristled again.
Yan Run steadied herself. As long as Yu Wenxi wasn’t swayed, she wouldn’t be either. She needed to counterattack.
After all, she’d known Lang Feng long enough to understand her nature. Back then, the “friendship filter” had made her tolerable. Now, looking again, she was the kind of person one should avoid at all costs.
“What’s your name again? Where did you live? I’ve forgotten all of it. If I can’t even remember someone like you, it means we were nothing more than acquaintances—hardly friends. Maybe you just had a crush on me and mistook my politeness for friendship? The truth is, I don’t know you. My god, you’re terrifying—do you have some kind of delusional disorder? You can even come up with something this twisted?”
Yan Run spoke smoothly, and it made perfect sense. Several people around them couldn’t help but laugh.
Lang Feng’s face flushed purple—Yan Run’s sharp tongue had struck home.
Gu Zhen hadn’t expected her to handle it this way.
Now there was only one way forward—
Break Yu Wenxi.
Surely, an Omega as jealous as Yu Wenxi wouldn’t hear all this without doubting her.
But she didn’t know that Yu Wenxi had long been aware of Lang Feng’s existence—she even knew Lang Feng had once nearly assaulted Yan Run.
“Miss Yu, you’re really going to ignore what I’m saying? Do you even know what her past news was like? The title of ‘Scum Alpha’ didn’t just appear out of nowhere! Don’t you doubt her past? In high school, her reputation was terrible—she even pulled stunts like this on me! Can you really trust this kind of Alpha?”
Lang Feng tried to use Yu Wenxi to rein Yan Run in—driving a wedge between them.
“I trust her.”
Lang Feng’s breath caught—she hadn’t expected such an immediate, unwavering answer.
“Why would I believe a stranger I’ve never met,” Yu Wenxi said softly, “instead of my wife, who I live with day in and day out?” She turned to Yan Run, her eyes warm with affection. “I believe my wife. Always. To the end.”
“Bravo!”
Yu Wenxi’s words actually moved a few people to clap. Then their host, Lin Chuyin, joined in, and soon the room filled with applause—loud and ringing, each beat striking hard against Lang Feng’s pride.
Her eyes widened as she sucked in a deep breath.
Her carefully laid plan had collapsed in an instant.
Why?!
Lin Chuyin sighed. “Where’s the butler? Please see her out.”
“I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving!” Lang Feng shook her head wildly. “Yan Run, I hate you! Gu Zhen—you said you’d help me teach her a lesson! Do it now!”
Her words accidentally dragged Gu Zhen into the open, baffling the crowd.
Yan Run let out a small “Oh”—“So it was young Miss Gu who invited you here.”
Yu Wenxi touched her arm lightly, telling her to drop it.
By now, Lin Chuyin’s expression was far from pleasant.
Gu Zhen forced herself to remain composed and smiled faintly. “What are you talking about? I don’t even know you. Now get out.”
And soon enough, Lang Feng was escorted out.
She was a rich young lady, yet here she was—thrown out just like that.
What on earth was this supposed to be?
