After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts - Chapter 47
Back then, for convenience, Lan Qing had found a place near the company. Since it was on the way, Chu Muqing dropped Su Wanqing off downstairs at Lan Qing’s building.
“I’ll come pick you up after work.”
“If you’re too busy, you don’t have to. I can just call a cab.”
“Alright.”
Chu Muqing agreed verbally, but in her heart, she didn’t really accept it — what could possibly be more important than picking up her wife?
Su Wanqing waved at her, and Chu Muqing rolled up the window and drove off after making a turn.
Su Wanqing turned around and headed straight toward the entrance. As she reached the door, the automatic sensor triggered, and the doors slid open. She stepped inside and glanced around — Lan Qing hadn’t changed much.
After a couple of steps, Ji Yu suddenly popped out of nowhere and grabbed her arm.
“Qing-jie, you’re finally here! Without you, Lan Qing feels like the Sahara Desert without water…”
“Stop, stop, stop!” Su Wanqing quickly interrupted her.
“Have you had breakfast? I brought some cupcakes.” Ji Yu tugged her along, and the two entered the elevator.
“I’ve already eaten,” Su Wanqing replied.
“I saw President Chu dropping you off.” Ji Yu looked dreamy. “She’s so handsome when she drives!”
“…”
“When I was in university, my classmates used to gossip, saying Chu Muqing was a ruthless and hot-tempered Alpha. She doesn’t seem like that at all.”
“She doesn’t bully you at home, does she?”
“No.” Su Wanqing thought for a moment and smiled. “She used to have some issues with her glands, which made her emotions unstable for a while, but she’s fine now.”
Back when Chu Muqing was managing her company, perhaps there was no time for gentler methods. She had to act decisively and restructure things, and rumors had gotten exaggerated along the way.
“She doesn’t seem like that to me either,” Ji Yu recalled the few times she’d seen Chu Muqing and agreed she wasn’t like the rumors.
“But I also heard she doesn’t like Omegas. Have you two… you know?”
“Know what?”
“A lifetime mark,” Ji Yu whispered.
Su Wanqing blushed furiously. They were at work — was she really discussing something like this so openly?!
Typical insensitive Beta.
“We haven’t,” Su Wanqing muttered.
“Huh?”
The elevator doors opened, and Su Wanqing quickly pushed Ji Yu out. “Alright, stop gossiping. She’s perfectly fine.”
“Qing-jie, you better get checked soon. If the Alpha isn’t up to it, we can’t keep her,” Ji Yu teased.
“…”
They reached their desks. There were seven or eight colleagues in the office; they greeted each other casually. Su Wanqing walked further inside. She hadn’t been at her desk for over half a month, yet it was still clean — not a speck of dust.
As soon as she sat down, Ji Yu pushed open the office door and peeked in.
“Qing-jie, I cleaned your desk every day. Don’t get too emotional about it,” she said, shutting the door before Su Wanqing could even respond.
Sometimes Su Wanqing truly wondered how Ji Yu managed to stay so energetic every day, like a patient with mild mania, her energy seemingly endless.
She turned on her computer. As a file Ji Yu had sent earlier was downloading, Su Wanqing’s mind wandered to what Ji Yu had said in the elevator.
An Alpha who couldn’t…?
They hadn’t established a lifetime bond — but that was because Chu Muqing didn’t want to, not because she was incapable. Judging from the strength of their temporary bond, “incapable” was the last word she would use to describe her.
Even though Su Wanqing wasn’t bothered by it, her mind still started to wonder what a lifetime mark would be like.
Just thinking about it filled her mind with rosy, dreamy bubbles. Enough! Su Wanqing, what are you thinking? You’re supposed to be a reserved Omega!
Ding!
The file finished downloading. Su Wanqing placed her hand on the mouse and opened it.
Burying herself in work was the best way to keep her mind from wandering.
The company’s finance manager turned out to be someone Chu Muqing trusted — something Su Wanqing only learned a few days ago.
Chu Muqing had been worried that she wouldn’t be able to take care of everything, so she had transferred someone she trusted over.
After Chu Muqing left, Su Wanqing had worried about moles inside the company, and the first department she had wanted to check was Finance — but Xu Chengke had stopped her.
Looking at the summer financial report, Su Wanqing felt reassured. The profits were enough for them to splurge for an entire year. With the autumn workload, the pressure would be much lighter.
During her first week back at work, Su Wanqing didn’t push forward with any new projects — she focused on reviewing and wrapping up the summer’s work.
On Friday, Lu Qinghe found out about their check-up scheduled for the next day and asked if Su Wanqing could stay over for the night, so they could go to the hospital together in the morning.
Su Wanqing mentioned it to Chu Muqing. Although Chu wasn’t very happy about it, she eventually agreed.
Cheng Zhuo came to Lan Qing to pick her up.
Once she got into the car, Su Wanqing asked, “Is something wrong with Sister Lu?”
Something didn’t sit right with her. Why would Lu Qinghe suddenly want her company?
Cheng Zhuo sighed in frustration. “It’s nothing serious. Yesterday, we went shopping for clothes, but she couldn’t find anything that fit. She got upset, said she was getting fat, and cried all night.”
“…”
“Probably just hormone issues from the pregnancy.”
“I know that too.”
“She cried so much it made me feel awful. I tried everything I could yesterday.”
“I’ll check on her in a bit.”
Cheng Zhuo wasn’t impatient at all. With Lu Qinghe pregnant, he practically wanted to hold her in the palm of his hand. Still, as the pregnancy progressed, it was impossible for her body not to change.
There were plenty of beautiful maternity clothes, but Lu Qinghe insisted she looked ugly in them, saying she looked like a sow standing up, and absolutely refused to wear them.
Lu Qinghe, the cherished daughter of the Lu family, was a rare S-class Omega. Although she wasn’t adored as much as an Alpha would be, she had never been mistreated.
She was the type of cool, elegant beauty that grew more captivating the longer you looked at her. It was understandable that she found it hard to accept her changing body all at once.
When they arrived at the Cheng family home, Lu Qinghe was waiting in the center of the living room. Cheng Zhuo, seeing the situation clearly, found an excuse to leave. The housekeeper brought over two plates of freshly washed fruit.
“Lu-jie~”
Su Wanqing greeted her warmly. She noticed that Lu Qinghe’s waist had indeed thickened, but her figure had simply become more rounded — she looked nothing close to ugly.
“Qingqing!” Lu Qinghe pouted pitifully. “Pregnancy is so miserable. None of my clothes fit anymore!”
“Which store was it? If even Lu-jie can’t fit into their clothes, they’re probably on the verge of going out of business.”
In front of a close friend, everything else in the world was subjected to maximum malice.
But Su Wanqing didn’t really care about that anymore.
Lu Qinghe was coaxed into laughter.
She knew she had been unreasonable, but after a day’s time to settle down, her mood had adjusted. Now, she was just venting.
“Do you regret getting pregnant?”
Lu Qinghe shook her head. “I really like kids. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have chosen to have one.”
“Mhm.”
Su Wanqing responded softly, and a sudden thought struck her — wasn’t she a fashion designer herself?
If Ji Yu could design clothes for her celebrity friends, why couldn’t she do the same for Lu Qinghe?!
In her heart, she began secretly drafting a plan.
The next morning, two cars pulled up one after the other outside the hospital. Chu Muqing got out of one car, while Cheng Zhuo circled around to open the door and help the two women out.
Chu Muqing walked up behind Su Wanqing, taking her hand and separating from Lu Qinghe.
Su Wanqing looked up at her. The warmth in her palm spread steadily throughout her whole body.
Chu Muqing tightened her grip slightly, signaling for her to keep up.
Cheng Zhuo delivered them to the obstetrics and gynecology department, then returned to perform their check-ups. They took gland scans and collected some pheromone samples using an information extractor.
“You can go home and wait for the results.”
“Alright.”
“How long will it take to get the results?” Chu Muqing asked.
“I’ve already marked it as urgent. Barring any accidents, they should be ready by this afternoon.”
Chu Muqing responded with a quiet “Mm,” her expression unreadable.
“Shall we go, then?”
She wasn’t a fan of the hospital’s strong disinfectant smell.
“Okay.”
Before they left, Cheng Zhuo pulled Chu Muqing aside. As a fellow Alpha, he knew exactly what was going through Chu Muqing’s mind.
“Test results take time, but I already reviewed her scans — there’s nothing wrong. Don’t stress.”
“I’m not stressing,” Chu Muqing replied.
Cheng Zhuo clicked his tongue inwardly. Not stressing? He thought. The way you’re staring at her, it’s like you’re ready to devour her whole.
But Chu Muqing truly wasn’t panicking. For the sake of Su Wanqing’s health, she could wait — she could endure it. It was just that some of her reactions were beyond her control.
They walked out together. Still thinking about last night’s idea about the clothes, Su Wanqing hesitated at the car door before finally speaking up.
“I want to make a quick trip back to the company.”
“For what?”
“To… work some overtime…”
Su Wanqing felt a little guilty.
“You promised you’d spend today with me.”
“This is a last-minute thing.”
Before meeting Lu Qinghe yesterday, the company indeed hadn’t had any pressing matters. But plans changed — she suddenly had the urge to make clothes.
Still, Su Wanqing didn’t want to admit the real reason — that she was going back to design maternity wear for Lu Qinghe. Somehow, she felt that if Chu Muqing knew, she might not be too pleased.
Chu Muqing stood there silently for a moment before raising the car key and unlocking the doors.
“Get in. I’ll take you.”
Su Wanqing trotted to the passenger seat, pulled the door open, and climbed in. She fastened her seatbelt, and Chu Muqing got in from the other side.
Resting one hand lightly on the steering wheel, Chu Muqing started the car with practiced ease. As the car glided forward, she steered with one hand, the other resting casually nearby.
Worried that Chu Muqing might be upset, Su Wanqing sneaked a glance at her. From this angle, Chu Muqing’s side profile looked perfect — long lashes blinking slowly, a smooth jawline, and a slender neck.
Her gaze remained fixed ahead, exuding an innate confidence.
“What are you looking at?” Chu Muqing asked.
“Nothing.”
Looks like she’s not angry, Su Wanqing thought with a sigh of relief.
The car pulled up in front of Lan Qing. Su Wanqing lowered her head to unbuckle her seatbelt. Just as she was about to get out, she noticed that Chu Muqing was looking at her.
She froze for a moment before asking, “What’s wrong?”
Before Chu Muqing could even answer, the wild rose scent of her pheromones filled the small space. Normally a refined and elegant fragrance, her pheromones now grew thick and intoxicating.
“You…”
The words barely left her lips before Chu Muqing kissed her.
Su Wanqing’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. She pushed against Chu Muqing’s chest instinctively, but it didn’t stop her at all.
The faint bitterness of coffee flooded her mouth as Chu Muqing deepened the kiss, prying open her lips, until even Su Wanqing’s own breath carried that same bittersweet flavor.
Under the influence of the pheromones, Su Wanqing quickly lost all strength, slumping into Chu Muqing’s arms.
Remembering that she still had work to do, Su Wanqing gently pushed against her. “Jie…姐 (Sister)~”
Chu Muqing steadied her, eyes still filled with lingering desire. “Can I come with you?”
After all, Lan Qing was originally her company too. There was no reason she couldn’t enter. The only confidential materials there were the design drafts — and those hadn’t even been located yet.
But today, Su Wanqing planned to design clothes for Lu Qinghe, and she was worried Chu Muqing might get jealous — even if she didn’t quite understand why an Omega would trigger Chu Muqing’s jealousy.
“Okay,” she agreed.
