After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts - Chapter 44
The company was still called Hengyang Group, and most of the employees had no idea that the real controlling shareholder was now Chu Muqing.
Gu Heng had stubbornly held on until now, only to be thoroughly outmaneuvered by her.
Of course, he had no face left to publicize it.
Gu Heng was never the type to willingly accept being anyone’s subordinate.
Under his own name, he still had a few small businesses — some restaurants, some bars.
His plan was simple: transfer his remaining funds “legally,” resign from the company, and make a comeback elsewhere.
In Chu Muqing’s eyes, his courage was almost admirable.
But his behavior — incredibly stupid.
She couldn’t understand it — a man his age, no wife, no children, and yet still clinging so desperately to meaningless struggles.
Chu Muqing quickly typed back to Xu Chengke:
[Let him keep working for now. Collect solid evidence.]
Su Wanqing watched the slight, cold smile on her face — three parts mocking, five parts indifferent — and couldn’t shake off the feeling that someone was about to be very, very unlucky.
“I heard from Sister Lu that you guys already dealt with Gu Heng,” Su Wanqing said cautiously.
“Why hasn’t there been any news?”
Lu Qinghe hadn’t given her many details — only reassured her that everything had been handled and there was no need to worry.
But looking at things now — Gu Heng was still playing the boss, and Chu Muqing was lounging at home, seemingly carefree.
Could it be that they were hiding the truth because they were worried about her health?
The plot, up to now, had already veered wildly off the rails — just like those novels where the author lost all sense of basic storytelling — but overall, the major events hadn’t changed much.
Chu Muqing’s ending in the original story wasn’t good — but at least she went down after taking a few enemies with her.
Lu Qinghe’s fate, though, was worse.
She lost the Lu family’s legacy, got slandered with endless rumors about affairs with other Alphas, and suffered through one tragic event after another.
The fact that not a single “pretty big sister” got a happy ending had always been a sore point in Su Wanqing’s heart.
“Don’t worry,” Chu Muqing said, reaching over to ruffle the top of her head gently.
“Just not the right time yet.”
When Chu Muqing had left Beicheng back then, it had caused a huge stir.
Former rivals had mocked her; old business partners had sighed with regret.
Now, if she were to return too noisily, it would be a loss of face.
Besides, after everything she had experienced overseas, she had realized — some problems didn’t have to be solved in only one way.
“What are your plans for tomorrow?” Chu Muqing asked, noting that Su Wanqing’s body had mostly recovered.
Knowing her, she should’ve been itching to get back to work immediately.
“I want to visit the Su family,” Su Wanqing said.
Back when everything went down with the Su family, she herself wasn’t directly involved.
It was Fang Shucui’s scheming that had triggered Chu Muqing’s fury.
Still, the Su family had raised her — it would be wrong not to at least pay a visit.
After she met with Su Ningxuan, the two had agreed:
Her younger brother told her that no matter what she chose — whether to reconcile or not — he would always be on her side, making sure she was never wronged again.
“Hmm.” Chu Muqing thought for a moment.
“Want me to have Xu Chengke go with you?”
If anything unexpected happened, Xu Chengke would know how to handle it.
“No need,” Su Wanqing said.
“It’s a family matter. If it can be resolved peacefully, that would be best.
If it can’t… then I simply won’t go back.”
“Alright,” Chu Muqing said softly.
“If you don’t go back, just stay here with me.”
—
When Su Ningxuan had been studying abroad, he worked part-time alongside his classes.
He and two other Chinese students had formed a small outsourcing team, building software for clients.
In six months, they had earned tens of thousands of yuan.
It wasn’t a huge sum, but it was solid, honest earnings.
He kept half in savings and transferred the rest to Fang Shucui.
Every time he sent money, he would shower Fang Shucui with compliments — adding things like,
“If it weren’t for Su Jie letting me come abroad, how could I have made this much money?”
See? Studying abroad didn’t mean giving up on making money.
When he graduated, his salary would be even higher.
Fang Shucui, being flattered so endlessly, gradually let go of her resentment toward Su Wanqing.
That was why, when the Sun family came knocking later, Su Ningxuan was able to help mediate on Su Wanqing’s behalf — though unfortunately, it didn’t work out as intended.
Still, Fang Shucui only scolded him a few times before letting it go — her heart already full of longing for her son she hadn’t seen for six months.
To welcome him home, she had booked a restaurant and arranged a celebratory feast.
Back home, she had even asked the housekeeper to prepare plenty of nourishing dishes.
This day, Su Ningxuan asked the housekeeper to make a few extra dishes.
Fang Shucui, still blissfully unaware, thought nothing of it.
When Su Pingwei came home from work and everyone was about to sit down for dinner, Su Ningxuan suddenly stepped forward and blocked him.
“Today, your sister is coming home,” Su Ningxuan said.
The moment he spoke, Fang Shucui slammed her chopsticks down on the table, her face full of displeasure.
“What’s she coming back for? She still remembers she has a home?
I thought she already forgot about this family.”
“And after the way she strutted around last time — acting all high and mighty just because she had Chu Muqing backing her up — now that she’s on her own, she still dares to be so arrogant. Really—”
She rattled on without pause, bitterness dripping from every word.
Su Ningxuan quickly cut her off, “Mom, I was the one who asked her to come.
I owe it to my sister that I was able to attend university. You can’t talk about her like that.”
Fang Shucui hesitated, then grudgingly closed her mouth.
Meanwhile, Su Pingwei silently listened.
Lately, his own projects had been turning around — finally doing better.
Looking back, the businesses the Chu family had once severed ties with were all loss-making ventures.
Those so-called partnerships were just empty titles that earned nothing; he had only clung to them because he was afraid of offending people.
Back then, he couldn’t see it clearly.
But after he cut ties and collaborated with new investors, the Su family’s tea business improved steadily.
Now, in hindsight, it was obvious:
Chu Muqing had been trying to help him.
It had taken him this long — at his age — to understand what his own children had seen more clearly.
There was a deep sense of shame in that.
When they married off their daughter to the Chu family, they thought they were climbing a high branch.
Instead, they had been given the cold shoulder — and their daughter had fled as well.
Now thinking back…
It really was…
Su Pingwei sighed heavily.
“How much longer until your sister gets here?”
“She’s almost at the entrance of the neighborhood,” Su Ningxuan said.
Su Pingwei put down his chopsticks.
“Go set out another place at the table.”
Su Ningxuan immediately went to the kitchen, picking up the set of dishes he had already prepared earlier.
Before placing them, he even rinsed them one more time with water.
When he returned to the dining room, he overheard Su Pingwei speaking quietly to Fang Shucui,
“Later, when she comes in — watch your attitude.”
Fang Shucui looked at him in disbelief.
Ever since six months ago, her husband had become much more assertive, and she couldn’t sway him like she used to.
But thinking about everything that had happened with Su Ningxuan, she couldn’t find a reason to get truly angry anymore.
Lowering her head, she grumbled, “Got it,” — mostly for Su Ningxuan’s sake.
Now that her son’s school and future were secure, and he was already making good money, she had no real reason to hold a grudge against Su Wanqing.
—
Meanwhile, Su Wanqing stepped out of the car.
Standing at the entrance of the house, she paused.
This was a high-end neighborhood — each gate serving only a single household.
The family name “Su” was still proudly engraved on the front.
The last time she had seen “Su” so prominently displayed was back during her arranged marriage.
At that time, she hadn’t paid much attention — she had gone with the flow, taking things one step at a time.
Now, standing here, seeing the intricate carving of the traditional Su character…
She suddenly realized how much time had passed.
The door swung open.
Su Ningxuan stood there, smiling warmly when he saw her.
“Jiejie, why didn’t you ring the doorbell?”
He chuckled.
“You could’ve called me too.”
“I just got here,” Su Wanqing said, stepping onto the porch.
This visit wasn’t about playing the saint or seeking reconciliation.
It wasn’t about forgiveness.
It was simply because —
she was a Su.
No matter what, that was something that would never change.
When Su Ningxuan had rushed all the way back from Australia, he hadn’t even gone home — hadn’t even put down his luggage — before heading straight to the hospital to find her.
They had spent an entire afternoon talking.
His concern had been real.
Their conversation had been real.
In the end, Su Ningxuan had simply said:
“Come home. Just once.”
Regardless of whatever deeper motives he might have had, Su Wanqing had a soft heart when faced with gentleness, not force.
So she hadn’t refused.
Just one day.
Just one meal.
—
The two of them walked into the house.
Su Pingwei’s gaze immediately fell on Su Wanqing.
She was… very different now.
Today, she wore sleek black dress pants paired with a crisp white cropped jacket — refined, composed, carrying herself with a calm confidence.
She carried a small handbag, looking beautiful and confident — completely different from the shy, soft-spoken Omega she used to be.
Fang Shucui glanced at her once but said nothing.
Su Ningxuan guided her to sit at the table.
“Come on, let’s eat.”
Su Pingwei nodded.
“The housekeeper made some of her best dishes today. Try some.”
Throughout the entire meal, Fang Shucui stayed silent.
Trying to lighten the mood, Su Ningxuan kept finding topics to chat about — sharing funny stories from his time in Australia.
Su Wanqing listened quietly, a little stunned by the new things she was hearing.
Before she realized it, the meal was nearly over.
The other two adults might as well have been invisible.
Su Pingwei occasionally asked her a few polite questions about her work.
After dinner, Su Wanqing checked her phone.
Chu Muqing had sent a message:
[I’m outside. Here to pick you up.]
Smiling, she put her phone away and pulled out three small gift boxes from her bag.
One was a watch for Su Ningxuan.
The second, a jade bracelet for Fang Shucui.
The third, a tea cake for Su Pingwei.
“I’ll be going now,” Su Wanqing said, wasting no time.
She wasn’t about to stick around to see their reactions — whether they liked the gifts or not wasn’t her concern.
She turned and left.
Su Ningxuan immediately stood up.
“Dad, Mom, I’m going to see my sister off.”
He followed her out of the house.
At the entrance, a sleek black Porsche was parked.
Su Ningxuan glanced at the driver — and froze.
Chu Muqing?
She was the one here?
Wait— what was going on?
Confused, Su Ningxuan turned back, silently asking Su Wanqing for an explanation.
Seeing his puzzled face, Su Wanqing couldn’t help laughing.
“Don’t tell them yet. I’ll explain later.”
Su Ningxuan nodded obediently.
He wasn’t the type to snitch — he was just there for the drama.
Su Wanqing opened the passenger door, hopped into the car, and waved a quick goodbye to him.
Chu Muqing started the engine as Su Wanqing buckled her seatbelt.
Leaning her head sideways, Su Wanqing asked teasingly,
“Why’d you come pick me up?”
“I came to check if you were behaving yourself.”
“Inspecting me?” Su Wanqing raised her eyebrows.
Chu Muqing smirked.
“Of course. My wife’s so beautiful — if I don’t keep an eye on you, how can I be at ease?”
“Sweet talker,” Su Wanqing muttered.
Soon, the car pulled up at Banguishan Manor.
Su Wanqing stretched lazily.
“Finally home. My car’s still parked over there.”
“I’ll have Xu Chengke bring it back tomorrow,” Chu Muqing said casually.
“No need.”
Su Wanqing stepped out of the car.
“I gave the car keys to Su Ningxuan when you messaged me. Let him drive it back.”
Chu Muqing reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers as they walked to the door.
“Didn’t you say you didn’t like the Su family? Why go back?”
Su Wanqing said softly,
“My little brother… he’s young.
He still naively hopes for a perfect family.
He’s afraid I might hold grudges and carry a heavy heart.”
The truth was — she wasn’t the original “Su Wanqing.”
Her feelings toward the Su family were lukewarm at best.
But she couldn’t bear to disappoint that little brother’s good intentions.
“It was just one meal. It doesn’t really matter.”
“But it stole my wife for a whole day,” Chu Muqing grumbled childishly.
At the door, Chu Muqing pressed Su Wanqing’s hand onto the fingerprint scanner to unlock it.
“You didn’t work today?” Su Wanqing asked curiously.
“Nope.”
Chu Muqing couldn’t help but smile at the question.
“In a few days, I’ll tell you something fun.”
“What is it?”
Su Wanqing immediately perked up — it was rare to see Chu Muqing smile so brightly.
She was dying of curiosity.
“If I tell you now, there won’t be any surprise,” Chu Muqing said, teasingly keeping her in suspense.
Su Wanqing wasn’t an impatient person usually —
but in all the time she’d known Chu Muqing, this was the first time she’d seen her genuinely, openly happy like this.
“I really want to know right now,” she said, pouting slightly.
Without waiting for permission, Su Wanqing rose on tiptoes and planted a light kiss on Chu Muqing’s lips — a soft, fleeting touch, like a dragonfly skimming across water.
Barely a second — but it was enough to make Chu Muqing’s heart race wildly.
