- Chapter 2 - One Million per Grape
“I told you to eat grapes, why are you taking off your pants?”
Yue Mingcang would never have dreamed that his suspicions about Long Yin’s identity were actually correct.
Eighty-six-year-old Master Long certainly could not have fathered twenty-year-old Long Yin.
Not only was Long Yin not Master Long’s son, he was not even a person from this world.
This was a no-romance power-fantasy novel titled Longmen. Yue Mingcang was the male lead, and Master Long was the villainous boss.
Due to years of wear and tear, Longmen had lost a large amount of vital plot points and key characters. It was on the verge of collapse. To save the story, the Main System had the original Master Long fake his death to exit the stage and dispatched Long Yin to transmigrate into the book. His mission was to take over Master Long’s role and play the villainous boss.
Long Yin previously worked in the Restricted Literature Bureau. His job there was to play minor characters who bullied the protagonists. Recently, the Power-Fantasy Bureau suffered a severe staffing shortage, so they borrowed a batch of underperforming employees from the Restricted Bureau to play villains. Long Yin was one of them.
In Long Yin’s mind, the role of a villainous boss was much like a minor antagonist; both involved bullying the protagonist. Therefore, he assumed the protagonist’s reaction to his bullying should be roughly the same.
Flying into a rage would be logical, and swallowing one’s resentment would also make sense.
But what did it mean when he said, “I am willing to do anything, I am at your disposal, you can do whatever you want to me”?
How could a dignified male lead say such things to a villain?
Long Yin did not understand where the problem lay, so he could only consult his portable system, Xiao Bai.
Xiao Bai responded cheerfully, “Host, you are amazing! Since the last check, the Humiliation Points have increased by a full point! You can definitely complete the roleplay mission!”
Humiliation Points were the metric for judging a villainous boss, identical to the metrics used in his previous bureau. As long as the protagonist felt bullied, oppressed, and felt a genuine sense of shame, the value would rise. Once it reached ninety, the roleplay was considered a success.
Hearing Xiao Bai say this, Long Yin immediately felt relieved.
I see. The Humiliation Points went up, so Yue Mingcang’s groveling is clearly just a temporary tactic.
As expected of a power-fantasy lead, he was capable of yielding or prevailing as the situation demanded. The more humble his current attitude, the more ferocious his future revenge would be. No wonder the Power-Fantasy Bureau was short on villain actors. Who would want to experience the sensation of being hacked into a thousand pieces by the protagonist?
“Is that so? Willing to do anything? Then come over here and let me see if you are more than just a smooth talker.”
Long Yin applied some strength and pulled the white dragon cane out of Yue Mingcang’s arms.
While his mouth uttered the typical lines of a villain, his mind flashed with the tragic endings of villainous bosses in original works. A mix of emotions washed over him, and his brow furrowed with a hint of involuntary worry.
It just so happened that Yue Mingcang looked up and met Long Yin’s gaze directly.
Those gilt-gold eyes were shimmering like water. Framed by overwhelming power, the gaze seemed more radiant, and the person more stunning.
That momentary eye contact made Yue Mingcang’s knees go soft. He almost collapsed.
The good news was that he was already kneeling, so he did not have to do it twice. The bad news was that his mind had gone completely blank. He had not heard a single word Long Yin just said.
Long Yin was not at all surprised by Yue Mingcang’s lack of cooperation. He expertly signaled the bodyguards to press the man toward him.
“Wait, no need, I can walk myself.”
No one listened to Yue Mingcang’s protest. The bodyguards dutifully pressed his head down onto the cold marble tabletop.
On the massive table sat two small fruit plates. One was filled with grapes, and the other held leftover melon seeds and peanuts. A bit further away sat a somewhat out-of-place white plush hand warmer.
Yue Mingcang struggled to lift his gaze and saw Long Yin sitting regally in the executive chair, propping up his cheek with one hand and looking down his nose at him.
Even from such an awkward angle, Long Yin was still incredibly beautiful. Every part of him seemed crafted by a god. At first glance, one might mistake him for an angel statue in a cathedral.
Long Yin waved his hand. The bodyguards let go and stood aside on standby.
Yue Mingcang straightened up and met Long Yin’s gilt-gold eyes.
Long Yin tapped his finger lightly on the table and said, syllable by syllable, “Cheating pays back three-to-one. You now owe the casino thirty million. If you can pay it back, fine. If not, we follow the rules.”
Yue Mingcang’s heart sank. He finally snapped out of the dreamlike haze caused by Long Yin’s visual impact.
Right. Talk of showing mercy was too far off; the casino matter was not over yet.
He definitely could not pay the money. As for the rules, causing trouble in a Long family casino usually meant you were lucky if they left your corpse intact.
Yue Mingcang stiffened his neck and said, “I do not have money, but my life… I beg you to spare me. From now on, I am at your service.”
As Yue Mingcang’s words fell, a system prompt was triggered. The familiar mechanical voice echoed in Long Yin’s mind:
You used your capital to suppress the protagonist, causing his company to go bankrupt and leave him heavily in debt. The protagonist’s younger sister was forced to accompany an eighty-year-old man for drinks just to borrow money. The protagonist has found you, kneeling and begging you to let his family and partners go. He is at your disposal. You take this opportunity to humiliate the protagonist to the extreme.
This was the one-time prompt given by the Main System at the start. It both filled in the missing plot of the original work and set the tone for the roleplay. Its significance was immense.
Long Yin fell silent for a moment, carefully savoring the system prompt, then slowly said, “Not bad. A wise man submits to fate.”
He reached out and slid the fruit plate on the table toward Yue Mingcang.
The plate contained his carefully prepared secret weapon: a small mountain of washed grapes.
Each one was plump, large, and uniform, with a dark, jewel-like luster. They were a top-tier variety from a private estate. Even with money, they were hard to find.
Long Yin’s lips curled slightly, his voice full of confidence. “Eat one, and I will count it as a million off your debt.”
He had learned this trick from a senior colleague. Supposedly, it could make the protagonist feel a sense of crushing humiliation.
Though he did not understand the logic behind it, it did not stop him from believing the senior’s words implicitly.
“?”
Yue Mingcang was stunned.
From what he knew, the best-case scenario for cheating in a casino involved losing a hand.
And now, he only had to eat grapes?
He understood what Long Yin meant. The grapes were not meant to be eaten by mouth, but by another part of his body. But even so, using this method to cancel his debt was far too easy on him.
After years of struggling in the underworld, he had seen everything: soft tactics, hard tactics, and needles hidden in silk. He had experienced some firsthand and observed others coldly from the sidelines. He knew all too well those methods that seemed gentle but were actually vicious.
But eating grapes did not seem vicious. It could not even be called a punishment. Logically, this was the kind of flirtatious play a big shot would use on a lover.
Yue Mingcang’s gaze shifted slightly, his peripheral vision quickly scanning the room.
A dozen bodyguards stood solemnly around them. Beside them were two assistants, and a white-haired head butler stood behind Long Yin like a silent old tree. There were so many people that it was essentially a public performance.
Unfortunately for Long Yin, this did not bother Yue Mingcang at all.
Compared to imaginary shame, he was more worried about not performing well enough to satisfy Long Yin.
If he were a delicate, experienced young lover, he could certainly put on a show of sweet voices and tender intimacy. But he was a broad-shouldered, sturdy man. He did not have the talent to make it look pretty.
Besides, was one million per grape not a bit low?
For a thirty-million debt, at one million per grape, he would have to eat exactly thirty.
If it were thirteen, it might be difficult. Thirty was a bit ridiculous.
That surpassed human limits.
He was not afraid of hurting himself. Years ago, to beg a creditor for a few more days, he had drunk until he had alcohol poisoning and nearly died. He had not been afraid of those days, let alone now.
He just found it strange. Did Long Yin have a bizarre taste for the extreme, or was there some misunderstanding?
Yue Mingcang could not gauge Long Yin’s thoughts, but he did not dare ask. He could only submissively reach for his belt buckle, unfasten it with one hand, and slowly pull it out.
At the thought of exposing his unsightly state under Long Yin’s beautiful, pristine gold eyes, Yue Mingcang’s hands trembled slightly.
“What are you doing?”
A hint of confusion flowed through Long Yin’s eyes.
This Yue Mingcang was very strange, completely different from the protagonists he had dealt with before.
His skin was a rare wheat color, with black hair and black eyes. He had a broad frame, and his chest muscles were so thick they almost strained the buttons of his shirt. His narrow waist and abdomen were full of power, and his long legs made him nearly as tall as Long Yin even while kneeling. He did not look dainty at all.
Setting aside the fact that he did not look like a typical protagonist, his behavior was also incredibly odd.
Under Long Yin’s dissatisfied gaze, Yue Mingcang said something a protagonist would never say.
“I am taking off my pants.”
“?”
Long Yin tried to process Yue Mingcang’s words. Only after a long silence did he ask hesitantly, “I told you to eat grapes. Why are you taking off your pants?”
Yue Mingcang blurted out, “How can I eat them if I do not take off my pants?”
Long Yin’s eyes widened, his pale lips parting slightly in shock.
After a brief silence, Yue Mingcang realized something was wrong.
In the next second, a theory that was both perfectly logical and utterly absurd took shape in his mind.
Could it be that Long Yin did not mean that at all? Did he literally just want him to eat the grapes with his mouth?
Not only had he caused trouble in Long Yin’s casino, but when Long Yin kindly tried to let him off the hook, he had tried to take off his pants right in front of him!
Yue Mingcang sucked in a breath of cold air and hurriedly tried to shove his belt back in to fix the situation.
Long Yin also sucked in a breath. His lips trembled with rage, looking like flower petals quivering in a heavy rain. “You… you, what did you say? You…”
While Long Yin was incoherent, Yue Mingcang lunged at the table, grabbed the grapes, and began frantically stuffing them into his mouth.
Using both hands, he did not peel them or spit out the seeds. He did not even chew. He just forced them down his throat. In less than half a minute, he had finished the entire plate.
His mouth was bulging and his throat was packed tight. As he struggled to chew and swallow, he realized with a start that one really can eat thirty grapes. No wonder it was only a million per grape.
“You person, you are simply preposterous! Vulgar! Shameless!”
Long Yin struggled for a long time, only managing to sputter out those adjectives.
He was far too late with his words. Yue Mingcang had already finished the grapes, yet Long Yin was still critiquing the pant-pulling incident.
Yue Mingcang wanted to laugh but did not dare. He could only lower his head to hide the curl of his lips, apologizing sincerely. “I am sorry, it is my fault. I had a momentary lapse in judgment. How about I eat another thirty?”
If he had previously been wondering how much of Master Long’s ruthlessness and malice Long Yin had inherited, he now had the answer.
This pampered prince, the most beautiful and noble white rose in the vast Long family garden, did not have a single thorn on him.
“Unreasonable! Butler, throw him out!”
Long Yin was fuming.
When he played antagonists before, the protagonists always met him with disgust and resistance. What was wrong with Yue Mingcang? Not only did he take off his pants in front of him, but he even wanted to eat another thirty grapes!
It was too much. This was simply too much. This protagonist was too…
Wait.
In the middle of his anger, Long Yin suddenly thought of something.
He forgot that this was not a restricted novel. There were no specific roles like those in his previous bureau. Yue Mingcang was a power-fantasy male lead.
With a power-fantasy lead, was it possible that he was a straight man?
Following that train of thought, could it be that for a straight man, the way to express disgust, endurance, and shame was to take off one’s pants in public?
