To attain the Way of the Heartless Sword, a cultivator must sever all emotional entanglements. However, Shi Li harbors a secret from his entire sect: he shares an unusually intimate bond with a wisp of his own divine soul. Since falling in love with oneself does not technically fall under the scrutiny of one’s Dao Heart, his secret was never discovered.
Later, he encounters a man from three hundred years in the future. This future version of himself is destitute, fragile, and sensitive; he loves to cling to Shi Li for hugs and behaves like a bit of a rogue. Having lost the divine soul they once shared, this man is now utterly alone.
Initially, Shi Li thought the man intended to steal his divine soul. He later realized that was not his only goal. The man did not just want the soul; he wanted Shi Li as well.

Despite being the elder of the two, the man insists on calling Shi Li “Senior Brother” or “Big Brother.” He expects Shi Li to provide his allowance, arrange his daily necessities, and even borrow his spiritual power. In exchange, the man offers to teach him techniques for kissing and intimacy, promising to show him how to be more comfortable.
Shi Li thought to himself, “Who asked for that kind of repayment?”

As the most renowned Young Lord of the Xuanqing Sect, Shi Li has always been diligent. He wakes before dawn and is consistently the first in the sect to practice his swordplay. However, ever since an extra person appeared in his bed, he has begun waking up later and later.
When his fellow disciples asked for the reason, he joked half-seriously, “I am in love.”
The others laughed along and praised his sense of humor. They claimed that if a Heartless Sword cultivator dared to fall in love, their Dao Heart would surely shatter into dust. One night, a disciple passed by the Young Lord’s residence and heard the strange creaking of a bed. They concluded that the Young Lord was so diligent that, being unable to sleep, he was battling himself on his couch.
Moved to tears by his dedication, the disciples felt inspired. If a genius works this hard, what excuse do they have not to strive?
Shi Li touched the corner of his bitten lip and replied, “Exactly.”
