- Chapter 6 - Everything is for CEO Luo
Lu Yao followed her memory to the place where she and Luo Yueming had bought a car together.
Two years had passed, and the dealership hadn’t changed much. The salespeople were as enthusiastic as ever, rushing to greet Lu Yao even though she arrived alone.
“Miss, are you looking for a car?” the salesman asked, his face beaming with a wide smile.
Lu Yao watched him carefully for a moment, secretly trying to mimic his expression to learn how he received guests. However, her corners of her mouth twitched with difficulty before she gave up.
She couldn’t bring herself to be that exuberant; she could only console herself with the thought that customers buying flowers might not necessarily like that style of service.
Lu Yao nodded. “I’ll have to trouble you for a recommendation.”
Salesman: “No trouble at all. What kind of vehicle do you need?”
Lu Yao: “Something for daily travel, but preferably capable of hauling goods.”
“Hauling goods?” The salesman thought for a moment, observing Lu Yao’s stature. “Will you be the one driving?”
“…Yes.” Lu Yao’s voice was very small.
“You can take a look at these.” The salesman handed over a booklet introducing various pickup trucks, complete with photos. “See which style you like; we can contact someone to source it.”
Lu Yao looked around the cars parked in the showroom; there weren’t any pickups.
Her main purpose for buying a car was indeed to transport goods, but she couldn’t drive anything too large, which was why she added the requirement for daily travel.
A pickup truck, featuring a sedan-like front and cabin with an open cargo bed, fit Lu Yao’s requirements perfectly. Prices ranged from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of yuan. Lu Yao closed the booklet. “Just introduce me to the one with the best cost-performance ratio under 100,000 yuan.”
The salesman smiled. “Then you should look at this model. If you’re interested, we can even give you a discount.”
Lu Yao followed his lead and scanned the description. She didn’t really understand it, so she simply wore her trust on her face.
The salesman’s smile deepened, and he couldn’t help but remark, “Why didn’t you bring a friend along? It’s much more convenient to have a friend who understands cars.”
Lu Yao looked embarrassed, though she quickly masked it, saying casually, “I was actually referred by a friend. She bought a car here before.”
The salesman nodded upon hearing this.
This shop had been open for a long time, and Luo Yueming had chosen it after an investigation; they wouldn’t swindle people. Since Lu Yao was following Luo Yueming’s choice, she wouldn’t lose out.
The dealership didn’t have the specific car Lu Yao wanted in stock. They needed to search elsewhere and would contact her to come see it once they found one. Until then, Lu Yao could only go home and wait.
So, clutching her bag, Lu Yao went back to the bus station.
Buses to the outskirts were infrequent and required a long wait. Lu Yao stared blankly across the road as usual until a car stopped in front of her, honking its horn a few times.
At first, Lu Yao thought the driver was looking for someone else, but when the car remained stationary, she finally looked over.
Chen Shi waved at her. “I’ll give you a lift!”
In the driver’s seat, Chen Shi turned the steering wheel while talking. “Don’t be a stranger. After all, my uncle is your landlord, so we’re practically acquaintances. It’s convenient for me to give you a ride.”
Lu Yao sat in the passenger seat, her hands on her knees, feeling very nervous.
She hadn’t wanted to get in, but Chen Shi kept beckoning her. The other people waiting for the bus eventually got impatient and urged her to just get in.
Once inside, Lu Yao realized this man talked incessantly. He was on par with Jiang Yunyun—no, he talked even more than Jiang Yunyun!
“Sist—did you come to the city center for something specific today?” Chen Shi almost blurted out “Sister-in-law,” but luckily, he caught himself in time. He peeked at Lu Yao’s reaction through the rearview mirror; she didn’t seem to notice.
Sister-in-law is a bit dense, Chen Shi thought to himself.
“I want to buy a car,” Lu Yao said, her eyes cast down.
“Oh, did you pick one out?”
“Yes.”
The conversation fell into silence.
“Thank you for the help with the rental,” Lu Yao eventually spoke up to express her gratitude.
Even if this man was Luo Yueming’s subordinate, it didn’t necessarily mean this matter was connected to Luo Yueming. Jiang Yunyun had said that many companies collaborated with Shengxi Group, and it was just a coincidence that she ran into Chen Shi.
Although Chen Shi was an employee under Luo Yueming, Jiang Yunyun hadn’t seen Luo Yueming during the entire negotiation.
Luo Yueming was busy and responsible for so many things; how could he possibly manage every single employee?
Besides, she was already divorced from Luo Yueming. It was even less likely to have anything to do with him.
So it really is just a coincidence… Lu Yao tried to convince herself, then continued, “I originally wanted to treat you to a meal to thank you, but I wasn’t sure if you were busy.”
Chen Shi’s first instinct was to decline; he wasn’t prepared to have dinner at his boss’s wife’s place.
However, on second thought, Chen Shi tentatively asked, “Speaking of which, I might actually need your help with something.”
“Hmm?” Lu Yao looked up in surprise.
Chen Shi gripped the steering wheel, appearing troubled. “A friend of mine is opening a bar in a couple of days and asked me to bring someone to show support. I don’t know who to bring… If you’re free, could you come along just to make up the numbers?”
Lu Yao opened her mouth, about to refuse.
“Don’t worry, it’s just for a meal! You can just sit in the corner, and once you’re done eating, you can leave. I’ll handle the rest!” Chen Shi promised urgently. He almost said that with Luo Yueming there, he wouldn’t dare take Lu Yao anywhere inappropriate.
Fearing she would still refuse, Chen Shi added, “You can also have your friend accompany you.”
Hearing this, Lu Yao looked even more troubled than Chen Shi had. However, she did indeed owe him a favor.
“I’ll ask her then.”
Unfortunately, Jiang Yunyun was busy with meetings and couldn’t accompany her.
Lu Yao couldn’t go back on her word after agreeing, so she had to brace herself and attend the appointment on time.
Lu Yao didn’t like lively places. She had never been to a bar in her life. Even during holidays when her elders dragged her to KTV to sing, she was unwilling; yet here she was, rushing over to help.
Lu Yao checked her reflection in the bar’s glass window.
Her attire was as plain as usual. She wore a thin layer of foundation and a pale lipstick, making her look very inconspicuous even under the lights.
Chen Shi hurried over and stopped in front of her, glancing at her side. “Did your friend not come?”
Lu Yao felt nervous inside, but her face remained calm. “She’s working overtime and might come later.”
Chen Shi began to worry instead. “Then you just sit in the corner later. Tell me when you want to leave.”
At this, Lu Yao gave Chen Shi a few extra glances.
The reason she agreed to help, besides returning the favor, was that she felt it was time to encounter different people and things. Although she came, she was quite guarded against Chen Shi.
She hadn’t expected Chen Shi’s reaction to be like this.
Lu Yao turned her head. “Okay.”
Chen Shi breathed a sigh of relief. He was terrified that something might happen to Lu Yao. What if CEO Luo gave him a hard time later?
CEO Luo didn’t seem like a petty person, but who knew for sure?
It was much like how no one in the company knew CEO Luo had been married for several years—Chen Shi only found out recently when Luo Yueming asked him to handle some matters.
One could say Luo Yueming didn’t care much for this wife, yet he would wake a subordinate from their sleep just to instruct them to handle the minor detail of her wanting to open a flower shop.
While preoccupied with his thoughts, Chen Shi didn’t forget to lead Lu Yao inside.
The bar was already filled with various people: office workers like Chen Shi, and women wearing figure-hugging skirts.
Lu Yao’s gaze drifted toward their curvaceous bodies and slender waists, attracting the attention of one woman. The woman looked at Lu Yao, her red lips curling into a charming smile, her eyes shimmering with a watery light.
Lu Yao looked away in a panic, fearful as if looking a moment longer would result in her being devoured.
She walked to the seat Chen Shi had arranged and listened to his repeated instructions: “You can eat whatever you want. If anyone approaches you, just reject them. You can leave after staying for a while.”
Lu Yao nodded, and Chen Shi walked back into the crowd.
As soon as Chen Shi left, the gorgeous, vivid woman walked over. “Are you a friend of Chen Shi?”
She knows Chen Shi? Lu Yao paused. “Yes.”
Sort of.
“Hehe.” The woman’s gaze fell on Lu Yao. “Chen Shi isn’t being very decent, bringing someone like you to a place like this.”
The woman’s words left Lu Yao unsure of how to respond.
It seemed that some occasions were truly not suitable for the clumsy Lu Yao.
“Is that the wife of CEO Luo?”
As soon as Chen Shi walked over, someone asked.
Chen Shi nodded. Helping his friend’s bar gain popularity was naturally just an excuse; he definitely had an objective in bringing Lu Yao here.
“CEO Luo has good taste; he married such a gentle and virtuous wife.”
“Are you not afraid of making CEO Luo angry by dragging her here like this?”
Facing their questions, Chen Shi smiled. “I’m doing this to help CEO Luo solve a difficult problem.”
